OK, I'm not really frozen, but this thread has inspired me to scrap my stash. I am being so much more deliberate about what I buy because of this. After the New year, I am going to really be frozen.

It's Friday are you scrapping this weekend?

I plan to start my DD and make some 2014 gratitude journals for Christmas gifts

Anyone have any ideas on where to start making gratitude journals? I'd love to see some ideas

I don't have any ideas for a gratitude journal, but I am definitely scrapping tonight. My husband is working and the kid is having a sleepover at grandma's!

I am cropping at a friends house tomorrow from 1 - 9pm. Our monthly gathering. I'm only bringing 6 kits, my iPad and basic tools. We talk most of the time anyway.

I am scrapping tomorrow with my sister. I also finished layouts 10 and 11 in my 100 layout frozen challenge. I'll take picturs of them tomorrow when the lighting is better and post them.

I have a question for all you frozen peas out there...WHAT IS THE ONE THING YOU ARE LUSTING AFTER DURING YOUR FROZEN STATUS?

I am seriously wanting the new Wildflower collection from Carta Bella. But I am staying strong! Praying for a gift card for Christmas can't hurt though... Heehee

I saw a thread recently that a link to a youtube video that showed Paper Pens. You can use them to make your own enamel dots. I WANT them.

The OA Santa Sacks have been weighing on my mind recently. I've bought one before, though I do enjoy their lines. I think its mostly the mystery of what's inside the box that draws me, more than the product. It doesn't help that there are 5 weeks of them either...

Grant17 - hang in there. you are stronger than you think. I PM'd you. Stay strong my frozen pea. It's just paper and embellies, most of which we already have. There will be more when you come off your freeze.

After admitting my Santa Sack weakness, I am glad to say I definitely felt better, I knew the peas would understand. And then I scrapped 4 layouts to help take my mind off it and it worked. I am thinking of putting the money I save from being frozen into a fund for something fun, much like other frozen peas are doing to help keep me focused.

treyaut, thank you for your kind words!

A good question: what do you do when you get the urge to shop?

Love the layouts and crystal love the album!
I'm finally caught up with my gratitude album! I needed a 6x6 ring album and discovered that Walmart has them on line and I just happen to have a gift card- no out of pocket expense!

When I get the urge to shop I think about the bigger picture and the goals I've set forth. I also pray...really, I pray even about something as "insignificant" as scrappy goodies. I pray for strength, obedience, discipline and most of all the courage to JUST SAY NO.

I also have truly embraced that I won't die if I don't have it. There will always be another sale, another pretty collection, another opportunity when the time is right.

For me, my goal is bigger than the temporary satisfaction that a purchase will give.

I saw the Santa Sack posts and thought, "Do I need one? Should I go check them out?" But the answer is, NO, I do not need any more supplies. I still have at least another week before I will need adhesive, and I'm afraid to go to the store to buy it because temptation will be right there at hand. I'll need to be strong and stay out of the clearance section. I am a sucker for a sale.

I finished six more layouts on my 100 layout frozen challenge. I have 85 more to complete. I also made three cards this week, but those don't count toward my 100 pages. I scrapped with my DD and my sister. They also used my paper, but their pages don't count toward my challenge either, but at least they used up some of my stash toward a tribute album for a little one who died last year on Christmas Eve.

Here is the link to my layouts.

I have been amusing myself lately by watching scrapping videos on youtube. It's amazing the number of haul videos or craft room videos I have watched where the scrapper will point out something and say I don't ever use that ribbon ( or whatever product ), but they admit to continuing to buy it. I watched one today where the girl had bought 48 rolls of ribbon and said "I don't use ribbon". The ribbon was on sale and she got all of it for $20, but she also admitted that she was wanting to buy more punches and wouldn't because she didn't want to pay full price. The ribbon was discounted, but wouldn't it have been a better use of money to spend the $20 on a non-discounted punch and use it instead of something that might just sit in your stash.

I don't mean any of these ramblings on other people's spending habits to be judgemental. I have plenty of product I've bought and not used that's why I'm on a spending freeze myself. It just got me thinking about why we buy the things we do buy. I know sometimes the deal seems too good to pass up or it's what everyone else is buying. You know keeping up with the cool scrappers.

I'm trying really hard to look at how I scrap and just buy the products I know I will use and the amount that I will use. I don't need 100 rolls of washi tape. I like it, but I'm not going to use that much.

So what about you? Why do you buy certain things? Is there anything you buy that you really don't use yet for some reason you keep buying it.

Does anybody have an excess of journaling cut-apart cards or cute little bags that you would like to trade for a brand new/smoke-free collection of Graphic 45 Little Darlings? I will pay for shipping on my end.

Graphic 45 12x12 paper pad
2 sheets of cardstock tags
alphabet sticker sheet
cardstock sticker sheet

The first pea mail gets the goodies!

Cheers,

Did a lot of scrappin' this weekend - just got back from a wonderful 3 day crop.

Used a lot of my older stash: patterned papers from years ago, those stick figure kids Mambi stickers, letter stickers, tags . . .

What's on my wish list when I'm thawed? In my fantasy world it would be a Cameo. In my reality it will be a large self-healing mat that will cover my entire workspace. Not thrilling, but it's what I need.

Guys. I am starting to dream about buying scrapbooking supplies! Last night I had a dream in which I made just a small purchase, justifying it by saying that I hadn't bought anything in a long time. I woke up horrified and hoping that hadn't really happened! It was so real! Hahaha! Guess I'm on the right track if I'm horrified about it.

I've been sick for the past few days and haven't felt like scrapping. I was hoping to get an 8x8 vacation album done this month but so far I've only done 3 of 20 pages. I need to get motivated to do that and also edit a bunch of 2012 pictures.
Did anyone else set a goal for November? If so, how are you doing with it?

My goal for November was a layout a day. I got behind and actually had to play catch up last weekend, so I am on track there. I had also promised myself I was going to keep up better with PL...ahh...nope. Missing a week in Sept and all of October and November so far....

Posted a pic of my cover in the gallery...all from my stash except for purchasing the album..feels great! I would love to get 2012 Christmas pages done before Thanksgiving!!!

ITA. Over the weekend I grabbed a paper pad that I had been holding onto to scrap my daughters baby album. Since I am no where near ready to take on her album, I decided to make a smaller 8x8 one for a lovely co-worker who after several years of trying is FINALLY having a baby girl.

Admittedly, it took me a while to "just do it" and "let go" because I had been saving that pad for about 4 years now. But as I see the album take shape I'm really glad that the album is a gift. Eventually, there will be another paper line that I will fall in love with and I'm sure I'll be just as happy to create with something else

what do you do when you get the urge to shop?

That is a good question. For me it has been about learning that just because I want something doesn't mean the next step is buying it. I can continue wanting it and nothing horrible will happen and I can choose to remind myself of what I already have and stop dwelling on what I don't have, too.
Looking through my supplies and finding something I'm excited to use helps a lot.
I also try to remember that when it's time to start shopping again I will most likely be able to find some things that I passed up before and there will be plenty more to choose from. There always is.

Hi everyone! I completed 11 layouts (8.5x11) this weekend using nothing but my stash and had no temptation to put anything on hold because I thought it needed a product I didn't have. Nope, just used what I thought was good enough for me. Some pages came together so nicely and some I thought was just okay but settled on the fact that a layout looking "good enough" was okay! Just had to share since this is probably a record number for me.

Hope you all are having much progress with your stash.

Wow! High five to you! I would love to get that many layouts done in a weekend. Did you have a specific plan? Sketches? Layouts to scraplift?

I got about 1 1/2 layouts done today. I'm hoping to find some more time to scrap tomorrow and Friday so I can get my mini done by the end of the month.

I worked on my late Grandmother's album (each page a random memory of her). I had gathered several things for it long time ago but never completed it. So, having already pre-selected photos, paper and embellishments in one envelope, for the album, made it easy to just lay it out, commit and glue!

I didn't scrap lift anything, but I did look at a few sketches. It also helped working with smaller size (8.5x11) and that I gave myself permission that each page didn't have to wow me, just needed to capture what I want to remember about her.

High fives!

Hello!
I'm a little curious about the 'frozen pea' thing....
I have A LOT of stuff and I love to shop! I usually purge my supply once, sometimes twice a year to get rid of the stuff I'm not using and I love buying the newest, pretty stuff!

I went a long time without really accomplishing much in the way of pages....only made a few birthday cards to hand out.
I did do about 4 pages on the weekend as I'm currently re-doing my son's baby album (another story!)
I've been thinking of not buying anything new until I've completed so many pages but not sure I could stick to it
How have others of you decided what an appropriate number of pages is?
How do you stick to it?
Thanks! Any suggestions would be good!

what do you do when you get the urge to shop?

I must admit that for me it's multi-layered because I lacked the discipline to NOT visit 1 of 2 nearby lss's or a big box store. I always "just wanted to see" and take a look, see what's new, what has come in---is there any more of that trim that I *know* I should've bought but didn't? And, OMG the SMELL of paper! The crinkling of bags!

So if I find something great (but know I don't *need* one more of ANYTHING) I found myself purchasing it ANYWAY because I wanted to reward myself. Besides...what's another $5 bucks?

But now? I simply can't do it anymore. I *have* to create with what I have. I.simply.have.too.much.scrap.supplies.

I've stopped visiting LSS's. I've stopped going to M's and J's. I passed on the Santa Sacks ().

But I have to be self disciplined. I have to. I keep reminding myself that I have years upon YEARS of collecting scrap supplies and that I'm sure I have something just as pretty waiting for me at home.

Has it been challenging? Absolutely. There's ALWAYS something cool to buy! But I *know* myself and I know that as soon as I make my way to the register to start a tab, or pay? The VISUALS of how PACKED some of my bins are...how FULL my paper drawers are...the yards upon YARDS of unused ribbon and trim and tags...and ephemera...and flowers...I ALREADY HAVE IT ALL AT HOME!!! aarrgggrrrrr (lol )

It's vicious cycle of "I want" vs. "I *know* I shouldn't"

Aliwinn,

I decided on 100 pages because I have so much paper that I no longer have room to put it away. I figured I could make 100 pages easily without shopping. I am making embellishments, using ribbon, and what ever else I have on hand. I am going to run out of adhesive. My glue pen is nearly out, and I may run out of white card stock, so I can buy those things. I am worried about going to the craft store to buy what I need for fear I will be too tempted by other scrap goodies, but I still need to make 85 more pages before I can buy anything other than adhesive or neutral card stock. I will not go to the store until I am clear out of adhesive.

I can do this. I want everything to fit nicely in the space I have.

I've been thinking of not buying anything new until I've completed so many pages but not sure I could stick to it
How have others of you decided what an appropriate number of pages is?
How do you stick to it?
Thanks! Any suggestions would be good!

In October I posted the following list of things I wanted to complete by the end of the year:

I want to:
1)Buy ink and print out journaling for several layouts that are sitting around incomplete
2)Finish scrapping my 2011 pictures for my 8 1/2x11 and 12x12 albums
3)Start and complete an 8x8 mini album using pictures from a 2011 vacation
4)Make page kits for my kids to finish a mini they've been working on for a while
5)Get started on 2012 pictures

.....using only my stash.

I've done 1 and 2, I've done a little of 4, and I'm working on 3 and hope to finish it by the end of November. I did buy a paper pad to work on that mini and I felt bad at first but I do feel like I needed it to stick with a certain color scheme throughout the entire mini. Other than that and the basics such as adhesive, cardstock, ordering pictures, trimmer blades, etc., I shouldn't need anything else to complete the list.

It will definitely be helpful to set a reasonable goal and view it as a challenge against yourself. It has been important for me to have a good attitude about it. If I'm miserable about not shopping I won't want to scrap. It's all about getting excited about scrapping again. So many of us let the thrill of shopping replace the thrill of completing a layout.
Some peas have a dollar amount per completed layout that they look forward to spending. $1 per layout or something like that. Some people will shop after 25 or 100 layouts. Some are staying frozen for a period of time. You'll just need to figure out what works for you and your goals.

aliwinn - like ElsaBell, I too posted a list of goals and one is to stay frozen til the new year (only buying essentials - adhesives, page protectors, printer ink). Which reminds me, I need to update my list! Having a set goal helps me with this. If I fall short, I've at least done more this year than previous years of collecting.

For me it is not that I have so much stash but I wasn't scrapping and using what I had...and I was also one that replaced the thrill of scrapping with shopping. I also like new things but I have to first use up my stash and the only way to do that is to scrap...so it is a win win!

For me, I am out of space to put stuff. Purging what I don't love made me realize just how much I still have.

DH's health means I often have days we don't go out, so I need a stash so I have something to do that makes me happy. My stash is just too big.

I also want to save some extra money right now. I can afford to buy stuff, just choose to set more money aside for other goals.

What works for me? Reminding myself there will be another sale, another coupon, another irresistable line, another Santa sack down the road!

What a shame that we buy all these goodies only to purge what we don't love which in fact we just had to have. It's such a vicious cycle.

I am so glad I jumped on the frozen wagon. I can't tell you how freeing I feel knowing that when my freeze is over my mindset and how I approach shopping for scrapping goodies will be totally different. I will have a double reward 1) reaching my goal and 2) obtaining discipline and discernment when it comes to shopping.

My fellow frozen peas. I hope you are all doing well, I pray you aren't tempted during Black Friday, during the OA Santa Saks, during the blowout sales, etc. I pray that you can dig deep and find the strength to reach the goals you've set for yourselves. I cheering you all on. - WE GOT THIS LADIES!!!!!

I am frozen for a year for many reasons

1.) I have way to much stuff
2.) I can't get in my craft room without tripping over STUFF
3.) I could scrap for 10 years and only need adhesive-
4.) I need to set a goal and follow through with it
5.) I am tired of spending money just because it's fun and easy
6.) I bought the stuff for a reason at the time
7.) I think it will be so freeing when my room looks good
8.) I want to be happy and scrapping instead of overwhelmed
9.) I feel like going into my room is like going to the store to shop-because I have everything
10.)I have boxes and boxes of pictures to scrap before my memory completely leaves me (amazing how you think you'll remember something and years go by and you don't)

I am so unorganized I usually buy the same thing several times b/c I can't find it, now I know I will find it or make do with something else. My goal is to make up several kits and print some ideas and scrap that way until I can get some organization in there

I have found this thread to be very helpful and inspiring - so to all you peas I THANK YOU and look forward to 10 months and 29 more days in the freezer.

WE CAN DO IT AND WE WILL DO IT. THIS IS A GREAT GROUP OF SCRAPPERS AND SUPPORT FOR US ALL

I tend to overwhelm myself with making sure my page is "PERFECT" and has the right amount of embellies and the right paper. But when I see someone post a very simple page I think wow that is really a nice page and their pictures are out of a box and onto a page. Not all pages have to be over the top - simplicity is nice too

I wasn't very productive this weekend at my crop. I only got one LO completed over the weekend. But boy did I organize and purge and help my scrappy buddy get her room in order and purge.

Here's my one LO:
