I am with the Big Girls now... I bought a 1/4&1/2 corner chomper{my mauvy bit the dust months ago-after owning it for about 10 years).

Last Sunday I got inspired to make some fabric paper(something I haven't done in awhile)and now I started a new background of muslin, plastic grocery bag ,lace, crepe paper and stitching to play with.

Joyce, that paper sounds interesting. I hope we get to see it.

Great job everyone who has maintained and stayed frozen. Remember there is always room in the freezer - we can huddle together and stay warm.

I have used up 129 sheets of paper on 45 layouts. I am nearly 1/2 of the way there. I am a bit surprised that I still have so much in my stash although I have made a dent in it. I have more room and things are getting a lot more organized.

We will have a swap next month, so that will hopefully see me through the remainder of my freeze. Anything not swapped will probably end up in my child's classroom. I have a paper ream box full of stuff to trade or donate.

Here are layouts 44 and 45

To answer Amber Girl's question -- I don't feel really guilty about the size of my stash. I used to when I was continuing to buy every month. Now that I am frozen I am quite happy to shop from my stash. Last year DH and I decided to make a change in our lifestyle. We moved to a smaller home and he took a new job with less pay that allows him to be home every night. Prior to that and for the last 13 years he has left on Monday and come back home either late Thursday night or on Friday. Needless to say I have less money to scrap but since I have been a "paper collector" for the last 10 years, it has worked out just fine.

Hello Frozen Peas and thanks for all the encouragement and advice - yes, I have only been a lurker - a very regular lurker. I marked this thread as a Watched Thread so I usually receive something from you everyday in my inbox. Just yesterday I was looking at a couple of online scrapping stores and adding to my wish lists - I looked at my inbox just in time and read another message (reread a couple of pages actually) on this thread and so placed no orders - you all give such sound advice! I feel I will be successful if I can continue not placing any scrapping orders until May at least (will be in the States then and hope to actually visit a real scrapping store! - several probably - and am sure I will not be able to resist a few purchases.

scraphop Thanks for sharing your experience. I do like shopping from my stash too. As much as I feel that looking through my stash to find the needed embellishments takes time from the actual scrapping, in a way it serves to reacquaint me with my supplies.
At times I've even noticed I have two of something identical (a sure sign I have too much). But really, I think for most of us that have been scrapping for a while (me - since 2004), all the paper collections start looking very similar, or same with a a slight new take on an old concept. I feel like nothing is a 'must have' anymore, because I have something very similar in my stash.
Judy Praia Welcome! ...are there actual scrap stores in Brazil? Seems like there's a large scrapping community in Brazil from what I've noticed online. Actual stores are easier for me to stay away. Like the Archiver's closing here in the USA, I haven't been there for over a year because we moved and it was a 45 min. extra drive out of my way. But online is difficult, because there's a giant supplier of scrappy goodness right at my fingertips - no driving needed.

Anyway, I just finished my PL 2013 (Yayyyy!!!!), and I'm ready to scrap traditional pages from my stash. I'll even pull out some old Daisy D's papers (anyone been here long enough to remember them?).

Amber Girl...Daisy D's was one of my favorites!

Regarding your question, no, I don't feel guilty about my stash. DH has a lot of weekends where he doesn't feel up to going out, so I am content to play in my "happy place." If my spending took away from our needs, I would have felt guilty.

I decided to freeze myself, because I don't have a large space to store things and I was overflowing! Also, my stash was plenty big, as I have come to realize.

Hello All. I hope your weekend will find you doing well and if you are creating and scrapbooing and cropping, etc., that you are doing it with all of your current stash.

I have been a busy little scrapper this weekend. I am doing an online Challenge Crop on another Board. The Challenges are certainly motivating me to pull out some unfinished projects, shop my stash and create with what I have.

I've gotten a lot of LOs done. Here's a few.

Thanks for the welcome and -
Ambergirl – Yes, there are some scrapbook stores several hours away by plane (might be something in the capital of our state about five hours away by car). But the prices I see online are about three times those in the States – if you can find what you are looking for. And freight to my little city from Sao Paulo etc would be an impossible price if I were to order online. So much easier and less expensive to shop in the States!
Treyout – Adore the ticket background in your “BIG” city layout – also like the journaling pocket you made. Your family photo layout is beautiful!

Judy, I'm sorry the prices are so high where you live.

I finished two more layouts this weekend. 53 more to go before I shop. I'm finding more things for the swap next month and look forward to having these things leave my house. I am going to be a more careful shopper in the future.

Good job ladies for knocking out layouts using only your stash.
I felt great today. I was feeling anxious to shop. I had only been using a small amount of my stash that I had pulled for several layouts and hadn't shopped from my stash since so I went shopping and fond so much more. I knocked out about 8 layouts today using old 4x6 photos I've had printed for years. I made my husband come up with a random number to use as a goal (88). So far I have 21 LOs left to do. Staying strong. I did buy an ATG gun tonight because I keep going thru adhesive. Also. Out a 2" punch for a swap I'm doing but that's it.

I bought a stamp for sympathy cards last week plus some pop dots/glue dots, both of which were completely gone from my stash. My uncle died and I want to make sympathy cards for my first cousins and their families.

I have my cast off finally and plan to organize my room so I can set up the Cameo I got for Christmas as well as make my stash more visible!

I am frozen again!

Hello Frozen Peas, Im back in the freezer again. I fell off the wagon in a big way at the end of last year and bought a lot of goodies from the 2peas store. I fell 15 shy of my 50 LO goal before the splurge, ugh. But Im back in the freeze again and working on the 50 LO challenge again -starting over. I have to create 50 LOs before I can splurge on crafty goodies, exception is adhesive and white/kraft cardstock. At the rate Im going that will be once a quarter.
So far so good, Ive done 10 LOs and will be finishing 2 today... I really love creating double page LOs and mini series. Both really help me use up collections.
The first 50loc round really helped me and now I actually can go to my LSS and just buy adhesive and cardstock, yay!

Stay strong frozen peas!

PS: is the frozen pea badge for sharing? I would love to add that to my signature to remind me of my goals. Thanks!

Cheers!

I've actually been frozen for two months now, and lurking in this thread since day 1. You guys are doing amazing work, and are a great reminder to stay on track. I was planning on freezing for just three months ... But maybe longer, now that I'm getting into the habit!

I actually froze due to an impending international move. I get to keep a small amount with me, but most of my stuff is going into storage for a year. If I can live without it for a year, do I really need it? So I purged and I RAK'd and I donated to my kid's preschool, and ... I only had albums, page protectors, and stamps to go onto storage! Everything else can come with me to temporary housing! So liberating!

I need to make sure that I only acquire what I can use immediately. Since I can't take more than I have now, I need to put a pretty big dent in my stash if I'm going to buy new stuff later.

Thanks again, ladies, for staying so strong and being such an inspiration! It's so easy to get wrapped up in consuming and having, and you guys are amazing for resisting that.

I actually went into the stash and started working on a chipboard album that I must have purchased almost two years ago. I've enjoyed opening new packages of goodies that I am rediscovering in my stash. I am still surprised by how much I have when I start looking in totes and containers. I was looking through notes in my old planner and was surprised by just how long I've been downsizing the stuff for the past couple of years. I can say that I am no longer addicted to scrapbook supply shopping. I have deliberately avoided the new CHA threads. The only thing that I am curious about is the new cricut release - but what is different is that I am curious not necessarily interested. I had lunch with some ladies that I used to crop regularly with and after lunch they headed to Joann's - I did not go. I have been thinking about what my freeze will look like this year. One year I gave myself a scrap budget (total amount to cover incidentals and crop costs, any classes and a retreat). Last year I cut way back on crops, classes and retreat weekends and focused on downsizing my stash. Adhesive, glue dots, etc were purchased with store credits from our lss garage sale. I am trying to decide how much further my downsize will go. I have another cutting system that sits unused and some things that I once just had to have... Once sold they would cover the cost of any incidentals like adhesive or crop fees that might come up for this year. Scrapbooking is no longer a line item in my budget. I spent less $ in the last last year on this hobby then I used to spend in a month. At the same time I also probably created much less as well. This year I plan to have a better mix of meeting friends and cropping while still not adding further to the stash.
I am excited that we have so many new friends in the freezer. Being frozen has been a process for me. Over the Years i have tried many things. Not shopping for a month or more. Limiting myself to spending a fixed monthly amount or annual amount on scrap stuff (stuff, classes, crops, retreats). Only using store credit to cover supply and crop costs, etc. even downsizing my stash through donations to new scrappers. Through the process I have regained my self control. I am no no longer hunting for the deal or the latest and greatest. I can walk away from deals. I am no longer stockpiling. I haven't bought another Iris bin! The frozen peas has been a great place for me over the years (we used to have new monthly threads before this mega thread). I know that we will do great things this year!

In anticipation of being frozen, I reorganized my paper a few weeks ago. It's so great to quickly be able to put my hands on the "right" paper to go with my photos. So I am rocking it and have completed layout #7 of 100 before I can scrappy shop again! In my defense double layouts only count a 1 and six of these were doubles! Woo Hoo!

Everyone is doing so well. I haven't done any scrapping (made myself a cool background paper, but havent completed any layouts) but I did make a couple of cards this weekend. So am sitting at 3 layouts and 2 cards for the month so far. I don't have set goals but am happy as long as I am using my stash!

So I am now seven weeks into my freeze (I started at the beginning of December). I have a kit that will continue to come through June because I committed to it months ago, but otherwise I am only buying ink for the printer and adhesives and albums as I need them. It has been fun so far to shop in my stash, and I have almost finished a mini album and a full-sized 12*12 album.

I'm glad I came to this thread - I actually thought it was refering to the weather to those of you in the northen hemisphere - right now I'm sweating in Australia!

I am on a bit of a freeze at the moment... but it is almost over! My goal is actually to use up all my paper. I have paper that is from years and years ago - some sassafrass, some love elsie (anyone remember that?) and more. I have had them for years but never scrapped them. Currently I am creating a scrapbook that uses these. Once I have run out of paper then I am free to shop again! I am actually doing really well. I have picked out pitures for most of my paper, just need to get around to scraping them all.
I want to hurry because I have my eye on some new stuff coming out.

I finally killed a kit! I pulled a Counterfeit Kit together for January and made 10 layouts, 8 cards and 4 tags from it before I called it killed. I had way more embellishments included in the kit than I could use on prolly 50 layouts, but I really like choices! More of the details of the kit will be included on my blog but not all of the layouts have posted yet.

Still frozen here in Indiana! I have been adding to my Smash book and using up some embellies I won't use on a typical layout. My daughter is coming over this weekend to create, so a little bit of my humble stash will be depleted. I am pulling out the paper I know I will never use, and we will focus on that paper for cards. Keep up the great work, everyone.

Frozen still from no scrappy purchases and Frozen Physically from all of this cold weather we are having. Today I woke up to -3 degrees. I can't take it much longer. Being frozen from shopping is far more easier than being FROZEN due to the weather. BRrrrrr COLD!!!!

Good goal Amber Girl. You can get to 50 layouts. I like the first one you posted - very pretty.

I finished layout 48 - 52 more to go - I am nearly 1/2 way to my goal.

Still frozen and feeling good. I did place an order for htv for some Broncos shirts I am making for friends and family for the Super Bowl. I am being reimbursed the cost of materials so I'm still good in terms of shopping.

Thankfully I haven't really had the urge to shop for anything. I went ahead and unsubscribed to all of the manufactuers and designer blogs that did nothing but tempt me to buy, buy, buy. At first I thought I would miss them but so far, not really. Lol. I actually have a $50 gift card to Michaels that I got for Christmas. I keep thinking I'll stop by and look, and then I remember I don't need anything.

Organizing a lot of my embellishments has helped me use more. If I can easily see it and find it it is more likely to end up on a page. I am actually hoping to keep this up all year.

Twenty-four days down!

Hi everybody,

It's been a little bit, so I thought I'd better be checking in! Seems like everyone is doing great! Keep it up!

I haven't had a chance to craft in the last week or so but at the same time I've stayed frozen....closing in on a full month! Woo-hoo!

It's bitterly cold and snowy here this weekend, so if I can tear myself away from Netflix and being snuggled up on the couch, I'm going to try to get something(s) created

I just wanted to thank the ladies that started this thread! I have been frozen for almost a month and I have had more fun scrapping in the last month than I have in years. Right after Christmas I re-organized my paper so I know that has helped but I have not even looked at the new products from CHA. Looking at new products can wait until I have used up a large portion of what I already own. And guess what --- when I get out of the freezer there will still be new, cute product to buy!

Scraphop - you are so right. There will always be something new to buy. I have to keep reminding myself of that.

I completed two layouts this weekend and brought my total to 50 layouts scrapped without any shopping (except for adhesive). I didn't think I'd make it this far, and I am really happy that I have used up 160 sheets of paper. The sad part is that even after completing 50 layouts, I still have so much product.

I said I'd evaluate at 50 and see if I needed anything. I don't need anything, so it is forward to 100 I go.

What do you do when you feel the urge to shop for scrappy stuff?

For all of those doing the 50 LOC, and if you do pocket pages, are you including pocket pages in your count?

and one last question, can someone please tell me how I can 'watch' this thread so I know when people post to it?

cheerios...

Cheers!

Rambolina,

I'm not sure how you add a thread to your watch list, but I'm someone on here with know.

When I have to buy adhesive, I allow myself to walk the aisles and admire all the pretty things. The sale items are the hardest for me to walk away from, but I think, "Do I have pictures ready for this particular item?" The answer is always "no", so I walk away. Even if the answer is yes, I say to myself, "Do you want that badly enough to come back on this thread and admit that you left the freezer before you finished 100 layouts?" The answer is always "No!" I will make it 100.

I'm out of paper!

Well, almost literally.

I have a ton of cardstock, but I am almost out of patterned paper. Over the last week or so I have charged through 20+ pages and now I am down to my last couple of full patterned paper!

I've also been through a ton of embellishments, but I still have a fair few left.

I'm going to hold of purchasing for a little while longer and see if I can do some pages with cardstock background + paper scraps. However, when the new CHA stuff comes to the shops I have my own permission to buy some paper. I want to go easy on the embellishments but do a huge stock up on patterned paper again.

I am so happy with my acomplishment! I did it!

Carlie,

Now that is a big accomplishment. I can't imagine being almost out of patterned paper - white, black, or cream cardstock yes, but patterned paper? That must be such a good feeling.

Carlie! Out of patterned paper? How do you sleep at night?

Actually, there is a certain appeal to starting over. I am determined to cut my stash in half.

...and, when you do get out of the freezer, all the currently new CHA product will be in discount stores at 75% off

I havent started my 2/50 layout yet, been busy cross-stitching a new large format picture. It keeps my hands busy and keeps me out of the stores

Mikklyn,
I found that when I downsized my stash by half my creativity went up. By seeing how much was still there - and I liked it all - I was more committed to using my remaining stash and not just hoarding it.

Carlie that is awesome! I hope to be out or almost out of pattern paper by the end of my freeze, but that will take so much longer than it did you! lol.

I was excited to use up almost all of an old SEI line I had been saving with stickers on a mini book this week (it was not an entire line about 6 pages) I have enough left for one layout that I am hoping to do today.

I did get some birthday/Christmas money yesterday and went ahead and used it to order the Simple Stories Say Cheese line to finish my Disney Album with. but that for me is not breaking my freeze as my goal is not to spend any of my budget on scrap goodies.

Everyone is doing so well, keep it up!

Scraphop...I've never had to peamail it to anyone. I put the image prompt up above this post, when you go into your signature area of you account paste the prompt there and remove the last /image from the front and back of the prompt and it should appear in your signature.

I hope that helps!

I was having the urge to shop several days ago and decided to do a little reorganizing in my scrap room. I used to belong to a kit club about 5 years ago plus my sister had given me tons of kits that she wasn't going to use. I had about 30 unused page kits setting on a shelf taking up space. The only thing I was using them for was to scrounge for paper for my CKC kits, which was a total pain because I would pull the pack and rummage through and then replace it all in the bag and replace it on the shelf.

The day that the shopping urge hit me hard I pulled all those page kits out and dumped them into a huge pile on my scrap room floor. I sorted through the paper, stickers and embellishments and made piles for keeping and giving away, believe me the give away pile was minimal maybe 10 sheets of paper. Once everything was sorted I put it all away into my stash so that it will be ready for me to rummage through for my February CKC kit.

I also have a drawer of pattern paper that I keep sorted by color, I went through every color, sorted it and pulled out another 10 sheets or so for my give away pile. Just going through all that paper made me realize that there's nothing that I need right now except to use up some more of my supplies before I go shopping.

Page 5!?!?! I don't think so...time for a bump!!!

So, we're a month into 2014...I know a lot of us (myself included) made some goals at the beginning of the new year. How's everyone doing? I've stuck with mine...no purchases outside my approved list of items. I haven't created as many items as I'd wanted, but the year is young!
