Well, I will be frozen for a while. First because I shop too much before leaving the US and second because there's not much to buy here in Abderdeen...

So I will use my stash...until hubby will go on a trip to Houston and then I will shop on line and send it to his office !

As of yesterday I am frozen. I did my last bit of shopping Monday, went to HL and bought some mixed media items.
I so badly wanted AC polka dot party but realized that I have about 2-3 that I have not even used yet.
Plus I need to spend more time in the craft room and less time wasting it.
Treyaut- you go girl! Its nice to have goals to look forward to

Besides unsubscribing from e-mails from a lot of online and box stores, this weekend I once again re-organized my space and put a lot of my sticker sheets in wire baskets that sit out. I realize by storing it in drawers that I can't see, while looking neater, causes me to forget what and how much I have. Having it out reminds me.

How are we doing ladies? How's our will power? Just checking in and giving you all some encouragement. I'm still on the wagon. It's been 46 days which is great for me because I use to always find something a reason to use that weekly 40% coupon the big box stores offer each week.

I have to confess, I fell off the wagon and it ran me over. And just when I thought I was doing so well. I have boiled it down to two reasons, 1. I got overconfident. 2. I partially blame my recently revealed, unborn nephew/niece, I got so excited by the news that I shopped for supplies to do an album for him/her, even though I am very certain I have plenty of paper in my stash that would have worked perfectly. I went overboard.
My brother is more than a little amused that a baby album would require the amount of paper I ordered.

Now that I have my head back in the game and restarting the freeze, perhaps I should be scrapping my struggle to freeze? Make a physical reminder of the benefits of staying frozen.

May I join in? I literally spent the day sick yesterday when I looked at the stash I have. I am overwhelmed right now. I need to start creating again, regularly not just during the CADA/So's I host here.

So if you will have me I would love to be slightly frozen for a month or so then frozen solid for the remainder of the year. I know I can't just quit shopping right now so thats the slightly frozen. I will allow myself 15 dollars every TWO weeks for little things and adhesive (almost out again). Then starting Oct 20 completely FROZEN solid.

I already deleted all bookmarks of scrappy buying sites, unsubscribed from all four major stores (I have all four here! talk about temptation), emptied my paypal and removed my cc from the few sites it was stored on.

What else can I do to keep this promise to myself? What has worked the BEST and LONGEST for you?

I find that staying out of the stores works best for me. Also, pulling out what I have... Because I pulled together all of my Halloween supplies - I know that I don't need to bring anymore into the house. Because I've looked at my Christmas stash I am able to resist buying anymore Christmas stuff. I am on a semi freeze. I think that it is a good way to start whether you have allocated a limited monthly or annual amount for limited supplies. Some people only spend the amount that they sell or just use credits from an lss garage sale. It is up to you how you want to impose control over your spending and your stash.

I fell out-- the freezer was too full

WHile out I caved in and bought the Anna Griffin Christmas card kit-
BUT teh good news is I refrained from OVER buying---

Did not fall prey to the foil liners, the Cricut cart, the extra cool matching papers------(Breathe deep)

DId not even flinch when MS punches came on... no matter how cool... (breathe deep again)

AND I totally resisted the 96 colors of GLITTER...gaHAHHHHH
I have probably 15 colors/types already- seriously I don't usually pull out glitter so ...ok , I would buy it if I thought I could...

Ok, so SOMEONE pick me up off the floor and stick me back in the freezer before I thaw!!

I failed, but it was sort of planned. I went to the OA warehouse sale and scored lots of scrappy goodness.

Back in the freezer for me.

I am still frozen and doing okay. I have been eyeing some Autumn and Holiday items, but then remember how big my Holiday section of my stash is and stay strong! When I get the urge to shop I have been trying to go look through all the loveliness I already have and that seems to help!

Ladies, just reading your post keeps me encouraged.

CRYSTAL - of course you can join in. Let's see what else has worked for me. Well I have also unsubscribed to scrappy stores (one of my favs was PEACHY CHEAP!!). I've unsubscribed to the emails from the big box stores for which I'd make an excuse each time to use that 40% off coupon. I re-organized my existing stash and remembered why I had to have most of it and I'm still loving most of it as well. I find joy when I create with my stash, esp the older stuff because it's challenges me. I pray about it and I find peace in knowing that I've committed to something bigger than me and it means something to me to keep the commitment. Oh and I do allow myself the privilege to buy adhesive, page protectors and replacement blades only when needed.

Everyone who feel off, just dust yourselves off, throw on a sweater, a scarf, a coat, gloves, hat, whatever you need and get yourselves back in that freezer. LOL!!! Stay encouraged and don't be so hard on yourselves if you should fall off.

I am proud of you especially for your honesty when you fall off.

Even though I fell off the wagon (freezer?)...my tip is to remember there is ALWAYS another coupon on it's way! I don't have to use this one.

I placed an order today, but it was for two plastic Artbin storage containers, page protectors, and baggies to sort some of my supplies. J's has $.99 shipping today for any size order, which was great because I couldn't meet enough for $50 free shipping unless I added unnecessary items.

Deep breath, hanging in there.

Welcome, Crystal!

I must admit I hopped out of the freezer last week. We just paid off the last of our debt (WHOOPEE!) and I needed (OK, wanted) a fall garden flag, so I stopped in at M's. I picked up a card organizer & a $5 stamp set. Not too bad, but still.

Climbing back into the freezer and padlocking the lid!

Thank you all for the warm welcome! (Ironic huh? LOL). I need to get my mind made up that I don't have to go in the store, there is NOTHING I need right now NOTHING. I have three rolls of ATG and when I get down to one I will order a big order of it from tapejungle so there is NO temptation to go in the big box and get other pretties! I did finish FOUR pL pages today so that is good, they are very simple but I wanted to get caught up on that before I tackled anything else.

Ok here we go. Day one almost done!

Except for some items for gifts I am making, I have placed myself in the freezer as well. My husband is only working part time and my income covers bills and very few extras. I will also be paying for a few crops because I get my best scrapping done around others.

Please let me join in this group! I am not like everyone else in that I am not overstocked as most peas, but I am still freezing at this time. I have enjoyed making gifts and scrapping without buying new stuff. It really lets me get creative.

Well I am super proud of myself and thought I would share with those that would get it. I have been struggling with some odd embellishments and long things (longer than 12 inches) storing them and it was BUGGING me. I was going to run to Joanns to get Cropper Hopper storage but INSTEAD I got creative LOL and used what I had to store them. So without buying ANYTHING they are not organized (and mildly purged too YAY!). I have them in 2.5 gallon zippered bags by category/theme, clipped and hung with book rings on a rod that was not getting used. YAY! Ok now off to create something!

Hi Everyone, I have seen this thread and I read your post and I tell myself I need to do this. I have been scrapbooking since 2000. I worked at a lss part time for a couple of years and was buying way more than I was getting paid. I took a 6 year break in 2006 after I had my first child. I didn't buy one thing that was scrapbook related until 2013 when I made my New Year's Resolution to start scrapping again. I will completely confess that because it had been so long and there was so many new products that I never heard before I spent so much $$$ here that I made it to the top tier for discount. It's a little embarrassing. When I see that $ amount and what I could've used it for. I know that I can make just as nice pages with using my stash no matter how old it is.

I would love to be frozen for 365 days like Treyaut. only one problem I hate to admit but I am really want some OA products. So here is what I am going to do. I am going to take that challenge and for everyday that fall off the wagon means an extra week added on to my 365. I am going to start it today even though I have 2 orders already on the way. That will be my last time I get all warm and fuzzy when I see those boxes. .

Honestly, I have to admit and this is the only place I can admit it, I do have a addiction and I thank goodness it isn't anything that could hurt my health such as drugs or alcohol but I gotta get a hold and sense of control with my Scrapbooking addiction. I think being here could help.

I can do this, I can do this.

Some of you have been asking how others manage to stay frozen. Whenever I get pictures printed, I shop my stash and make page kits for my layouts. I very seldom need to buy anything to complete a page. Occasionally, I'll buy some ribbon or lace on sale or with a coupon to add a finishing touch.

I've been scrapping that way for the last two or three years and could keep going for a lot longer. I've only climbed out of the freezer a few times when collections came out that I couldn't resist such as the Heidi Swapp lines Sugar Chic and Destinations. I also bought all of the Maggie Holmes collection last spring. Too cute to pass up!

^^inspiration and scrappy hero! WOW!

I am happy to report that this weekend I sat down and made time to scrap and since Thursday morning got myself caught up on PL and did 5 pages (3 singles and double) for CADSO! Plus got those pesky things organized! YAY! I am feeling hopeful that I can do this! Four days of no purchases! My goal is to stay out of crafty stores for 2 weeks to start but DD's apple school project may require some stuff but I am going to try to make things here we have work so I don't have to go in there!

passion4scrappin - I applaud your honesty and transparent words. You are already on the road to doing better and getting control and to a place of contentment. I applaud your bravity, your courage to jump on board with us and freeze up a bit.

I totally relate to your words. It's not because I can't afford more items; my bills are paid, money in savings, children don't want for anything, home in order, etc., but none of that is a reason to justify spending as much $$$ as I have on scrappin' goodies. Because it's cute, because I had to have it, because it may sell out, because it's the perfect collection, because it's my favorite MFG, because it's on sale, because I have a coupon, because of CHA, because a discount is being offered, because I can get free shipping if I add a few more $$, because I saw it on a LO and want to lift it and because I have to have two sheets because I want both sides. OMGoodness, the list can go on and on.

It makes me cringe when my other scrappy friends and even words I read here that is okay to treat yourself and as long as you're not taking from feeding your family, bills, etc that it's okay. Well, for me it's not okay, because I truly feel convicted within my spirit. I could do other things with that mone (even 1/2 of that moeny), bless others, give above and beyond my monthly tithes, donate more, save more, increase my 401(k). So for me it's not okay when I look around and have enough to open a store front, so much that I will never use it all in my lifetime, or I don't even remember what I have.

So although my goal is 365 days and working towards paying for the remodeling of our kitchen with cash (as much as possible), when those 365 days are up I plan to be so disciplined that I will minimize my shopping for scrappy goodies tremendously. Shop to use it straight away, if not I won't buy it. Shop at places that will allow me to return what I don't use within that week and shop with a goal in mind, not just because its pretty and new and inticing.

So just know that you are not alone. I pray your strength and that you're able to take small steps to refrain from shopping.

Now get in this freezer, we will keep each other warm and encouraged. And if you should need anything, we can always do a trade.

- Kristol -

Ack I melted over the summer. My most recent purchase was the Simple Stories Smarty Pants line and the PL kit just on HSN. I still belong to a monthly kit, but am going to work on climbing back into the freezer. Like most people I need to do more scrapbooking and less shopping!

Treyaut and all other Frozen Peas,

Thank you for the kind, encouraging, supportive words. Yes I am an honest person and I wasn't exaggerating when I say I do have a addiction with scrapbooking supplies. I have to confess something I realized later on today after my post. I signed up last month for Freckled Fawn's embellishment kit club.(my first kit club ever) I can't let that go maybe in the future but for now this will be my only purchase besides the occasional adhesive that I need. So every month I am automatically adding an extra week.

Yes I can relate to you. We do pay our bills and I buy what I can afford but it's more than that. The other day my husband and I were talking about how we really want a patio and we have been saying that for almost a year now and then we were talking about vacations nothing extravagant but something simple as even camping with the kids now that they are older. I was telling him we just don't have the extra money to do that but maybe one day. Then they redid the loyalty program and when it showed the amount in dollars vs. point on how much I spent in 9 months I was floored. I need to put a stop to this madness so him and I could do all those things we talked about. I remember reading your original post about you discussing about renovating your kitchen. I finally took the plunge here. Have you started on the renovation yet? You gotta show us pictures when you do. I love before and after.

I think that is a great way to help each other out by trading items so we don't go and buy.

Now that I am in the freezer with all of you lovelies can't wait to support each other even when we fall of the wagon.

Hi Frozen Peas! I'm back from a temporary thaw only to buy some PL supplies. I went ahead and made the purchase since DH and I agreed it was in our budget for now. Also, the PL method will help to simplify and expedite getting my old photos scrapped before the new year (which is my current goal). Please make room for me in the back. I should be no where near the door!

Same here! That dollar total was scary.

SO and I are fine financially for now, but we have a lot of goals we want to reach in the next few years!

You ladies are all so encouraging! I have not scrapped since the beginning of August when my Stepfather passed unexpectedly and I had to fly out to be with my Mom for 2 weeks. I just have been unmotivated - well really for everything. My house is still not back together from me being gone the 2 weeks. I have organized my scrappy area better and have loved seeing all my goodies again.
I am trying to do the CADSO but have not even done that. Just feeling a bit discouraged and wanted to share. I do notice that being discouraged has made me want to buy more which is not a habit I want to encourage. So what do you so to get you out of a general slump?

Kristol,

I tried to reply to you via PM but it was returned to me saying "either you did not exist, your messages where full or you are blocking messages form me."

Thank you for your kind words.

I will jump in the freezer too. I have been scrapping for about 14 years I have WAY more than I need. I am 1/2 way through a reorganize of my scrappy stuff and see how much I have and have NOT used yet!
I went to a crop this past weekend and brought only a few supplies and made some pages that really satisfied me. I used every scrap of paper!
So that being said, with a kid in college and another going in 2 years, and all the other expenses of life, I don't need more STUFF!
I think STUFF is what clogs the creative juices and our life in general. Less is MORE!!
It has been my rule of late to only pay in cash, buy with an intent for a particular project or LO, and buy w/a coupon or on sale.
I have an old book by Erin Lincoln called "Supply Savvy Scrapbooking"... very inspiring. I also like the tip of reorganizing your stuff. I started using brads again when I pulled them out of hiding. Another tip might be to set up a "swap" session with papers or supplies you aren't in love with anymore. I do this periodically w/my other Gluemores.
I will commit to staying frozen for 6 months for now: April 1st, 2014.
(adhesives and adhesive refills allowed).

Thanks for this thread and lets keep each other motivated ladies!!

I love this thread. It's like having an AA meeting in a liquor store.

Just thought I would give an update! Now that I have made myself cozy once again in the back of the freezer. So far I have used a ton of old scraps for my project life album, I've had a bad habit of saving them and not using them. Then yesterday I was making baby shower invites, and used a lot of my brad stash! Another supply I often forget I have! It feels nice to rediscover them!

I've also found it useful going through my supplies and pulling older products out and setting them in their own pile, this way they are close by and I check this pile first before going to the newer things. If they have hung around this long, they deserve to be on a page!

I found this thread at just the right time. This week I've been wanting to make a fall mini. Just when I was starting to think I would just have to go and buy fall themed stuff I realized that I really don't have to. I've seen plenty of fall minis that don't necessarily include fall themed embellishments or paper.

I've realized that my scrapping habits changed while my shopping habits did not. I used to scrap much more often. I didn't scrap much at all during the summer, but continued to buy a few things. I had a planned shopping trip to a LSS in August. There are no LSS in my area so I felt that I should take advantage of being near one. I was so thrilled to get those new things and then yesterday I realized that all of it is still in the bag it came in. Untouched.

So I have not shopped since August. Back in the freezer I go. I have scrap goals and I need to schedule some scrap time to work on them and make a dent in my stash. So not buying stuff is only part of the equation. I have to set aside time to use what I have.

Ladies you guys ROCK!!!

Gluemore - welcome back into the freezer. April will be here before you know it. You can do it.

DawnMcD - you are so welcome. we motivate and encourage each other.

pigsflyng - Therapy it is...Free Therapy at that. LOL!!!

ELSABELLE - good for you. 1 month you go girl. keep going.

This Friday I am going to Scrapbook Expo. My friend paid for a class for me to attend so she wouldn't have to go alone. I have my $10 bill already for adhesive if I find a good sale. And guess what...my mommie and daddy slipped me a $50 bill to shop with because they know my Frozen status (although they don't call it frozen LOL!!) and because they are the bestest mommie & daddy ever.

Hello all...
This thread is very inspiring and motivating for me. I plan to taper off on my obsessive scrappy buying. I like the idea of taking my name off those email lists.
A little backstory... Just about 10 years ago our house burned down in a So. Cal wildfire. We were able to save quite a bit of sentimental stuff, so that was all good. I was actually relieved that all my scrapping supplies were gone because I was hoarding stuff even back then. As I look around my room now, I could do with a big purge again. Not by fire, but I hope to use what I have and quit buying so much! I will try to put together page kits for photos I have already printed.
Thanks again

I'm so impressed that you are able to put a positive spin on something as devastating as a house fire.

treyaut, thanks for the welcome! How nice of your parents to slip you some scrappy cash! Enjoy the Expo.

ginajo, so inspiring is right! The problem is we can shop faster than we can scrap! I have purged before and am 1/2 way through a re-organize so doing some more purging. It's a great way to rediscover what you already have!

What did you all think of the class question? I think it counts as scrappy spending. Maybe the exception would be like a Library of Memories class or something big like that, not a technique class. Another thing I've hoarded are idea books and magazines... I need to look there for inspiration first. Also there are so many online tutorials & blogs that I will never get to, lol.

I am pretty proud to say that I ventured into Js and left with the exact two items I needed, blades and a pack of clay for a project DD wants to do. YAY me! I have been doing the CADSO (come play everyone!) and that is helping a lot. I have to make time here and there with a little one at home still and one more in school but it works!

Miklynn, your post about OA Sale made me smile. I've promised myself a Santa Sack if I stay strong.
Sorting and organizing helps, I like what I've bought and can still use it. Thanks for inspiring words, Treyaut, and thanks for keeping us going everyone.

Sometimes it's hard to stay strong. I've tried just adding stuff to my wishlist, but I'm realizing that makes it worse sometimes. I need to avoid the store for a little while.

I really like the "keep organizing" advice to keep from spending. That definitely helps so I will actually know what I have. I've also been reading a lot of articles about decluttering in general, to help put my shopping habit in perspective.

Grant17, me too. Reading about organizing and staying that way. I've been sorting and purging a bit. I thought I should hold off on purging since I'm not buying, but as I see some stuff I know I won't need, use, or miss it.

Treyaut - awesome that your parents were so kind. Have fun with it!

I did buy the Glitter Girl class. I was feeling a little uninspired to scrap due to the overwhelming organization process so I thought it would give me a little boost.

I guess I will have to add ink to the list of things I must buy even when I'm frozen. I have two layouts waiting for journaling.

I'm working on another right now and I don't think it will be long before I'm done with my 2011 pictures. I'm very motivated to reach that goal...by using only my stash.
