While I doubt I will ever be completely frozen, I think it's a great idea to shop at home before you shop online or at a store. I belong to a monthly kit club that I love, plus I am dedicated to purchasing something every month or so from Archivers because I very much want that company to stay in business. But, other than that, I haven't bought much in months other than adhesive. I've been making that extra effort to use what I have since about January. Now that my "scrapping season" is in full swing (when I attend weekend crops and am making Christmas presents, etc) I am being much more diligent about shopping at home. I've also forced myself to drag out any unfinished projects and FINISH THEM, darn it! It's a great way to use up my hoarded stuff.

This coming Thursday I'm going to my first get-away crop of the season and I am feeling SO good about it. I've spent the last month putting together project packs with papers and pics in them. One set is for my future DIL's special secret wedding day gift (an 8x8 album). I also will be finishing up a project I started six years ago - making eight copies of an 8x8 recipe book of my grandmother's recipes. In addition, I'll be working on four 12x12 pages from a Renaissance fair I attended this fall, plus a few other this'n'that pages I've been wanting to do. It's so much easier to use what I have when I'm organized.

So many embellishments, so little time.

Here is the link to my finished layouts from this weekend. I also started another one, but won't finish it tonight.

First two frozen layouts - 98 more to go

Lizza31 - You are doing well on your goal.

Crystal - I like the idea of rewarding yourself. It sounds like it will help keep you motivated and scrapping. I want to reward myself, but worry I won't be able to stop myself. With any luck, a kind family member will give me a gift card for Christmas, but if not, I am really going to try to make to 100 layouts before I buy any new toys.

Well the reward system seems to be working for me. I got TWO layouts done yesterday, just singles but the first was hard as I felt so RUSTY getting back into it. I know I won't get that many everyday but it was nice!

How much $ have you saved since you've been frozen?
Do you see that $ in your bank account?
Or, has it been used for something else?

Great question Cindy.

Let's see I have 95 days frozen under my belt. And yes I see the money in my bank account. It's because I move it to a house savings (for our new kitchen & baths). I used to spend (I'm guess-a-mating) at least $60 dollars give or take a month. No less than $30 for sure. I haven't spent a dime on scrapbooking stuff since my frozen status on 8/1/13. I notice the difference in our bank.

I have noticed a difference in my creativity as well. I am not overwhelmed with trying to sort the new product I would have purchased, the time it takes to ohh and ahhhh and use the new product right away like before. I've noticed I have more time to create since I'm not spending time searching online for sales & deals or hours in the store....googly eyed over all the goodies. So I am not distracted by all the new goodies that I would have purchased which would take precedence over the stash I already have.

I have also noticed a different mindset, so when my frozen status is complete (7/31/14), I will go into this thing differently and more disciplined when shopping. I've noticed that my current stash is AWESOME and I love using it up. But most of all I've noticed that I have such strong will power and strength when I really make up my mind to do something. This has been one of the hardest goals I've set, something so "insignificant" (i use this term loosely - but srapbooking supplies isn't really a necessity in life). Still the hardest habit to break.

I like all the noticeable difference including the money I am saving.

Great answer Kristol!

Cindy,
I have 40 a month in discretionary spending - that is what my scrapbook money comes from. I have managed to save about half of it each month. (the rest is spent on other non scrappy items or coffee out with a friend etc.) at the end of every month I give what ever remains in my discretionary spending fund to my churches building campaign. If you were saving it for another reason that would be about 240 dollars over the year if you saved just 20 a month. - that is a nice amount of change!

Like Kristol I have really enjoyed getting to know my stash again and finding all the things I loved and using them. At the beginning of my freeze I did a total reorganization process and purged what I knew I would not use and organized the rest in a way I knew I would use it more. It has been a rewarding and fun process.

I am so excited...I did about 30 pages at my scrap retreat! I did not buy anything for the retreat except adhesives.

It reinforces my desire to be frozen as I didn't use up as much product as I thought I would.

Mikklynn - 30 pages at one retreat - you are amazing.

I know if I did 30 pages it wouldn't really make much of a dent in my scrap supplies - unless they were all Christmas pages and that would pretty well knock out my Christmas stash.

My problem is that when I scrap, I get the urge to go shop. My son tried to talk me into going into Hobby Lobby today. I did not cave - we drove right by and went to the grocery store next to it. I'm still in the freezer.

Not sure how much I've saved, but my stash shopping has definitely decreased to only items that aid in using my stash, like printing photos and better organized photo storage. However...

I went to a discount dept store over the weekend, secretly hoping to score on marked-down Thickers everyone here seems to find, but me. Do I need more Thickers to get more done? NO. I didn't see any, which was meant, so instead, I scored on 2 pairs of winter boots. Do I need boots? YES. Why? Because I've been shopping for supplies for so long that I forget what I really needed for myself.

Thanking God for new found strength and smarter spending, each day!

Like Margie said, I wouldn't be able to do them all, but I'd give it a whirl.

Of course, if we have to post our layouts I'm gonna have to learn how to do that first . . .

Jens3, a frozen challenge might be fun. Like USE something that you keep picking up and putting down... MAKE yourself use it! Lol.
Hang in there everyone, I think when we put our minds to it, it's not all that hard and forces us to be more creative.
I am still frozen since my last mishap a few weeks ago at the LSS in Stafford Springs (it was worth it!) and plan on staying that way til March 1st. My issue is TIME and not enough time to play with my scrappy stuff & not use NEW stuff for instant inspiration & gratification.

30 pages was a lot for me, too. It was 4 days and I made nearly duplicate pages for DGD and DGS's albums. That really speeds it up. I just swap out a few more pix of him for his album or more of her, for her album.

I am feeling really good about not spending $ on scrap stuff this holiday season.

Like Miglets, if I need to post a layout, I need to figure that out before I can display how I played with my stash. But a challenge sounds like fun and would be a really nice way to gain inspiration and motivation.

I mentioned earlier that I wanted to do a layout a day in November. Well, I am super pleased to say that I have a total of 8 layouts so far this month! I haven't scrapped everyday like I would have liked, but I am making more of an effort to fit scrappy time in. So, I think having a definite layout goal has really helped bring back the mojo.

@mikkilynn: great job at the retreat! It is so rewarding seeing a stack of finished pages, right?!? Way to go!
@grant17: kudos on the 8 completed pages since the start of November. That is awesome!

And to the question of saving $$, I've noticed only a small difference, but it's only been a few weeks since I've been frozen. I'm also a binge shopper though, so I would not buy supplies for a few months (say 3 or 4) and then spend a large amt. But more importantly, it's what Kristin said about a different mindset/way of thinking and also the time gained by not surfing for supplies, checking out deals, etc.

And I think I'm up for some challenges, but it might be sporadic.

treyaut (and others), I'll admit that I haven't read this whole thread, but I have read some, and I've seen comments made on other threads and I've always wondered something...

What about adhesive and costs for printing photos?

I could probably be frozen for supplies and never need to purchase another item for about five years, but, in all honesty, I don't think I could make it a month if I scrapped regularly and didn't buy adhesive.

Also, I have tons of old photos, but I tend to print newer photos as I need them.

So how do you handle these expenses in your frozen states? I'm just curious.

Count me in Jen! I don't post everything I scrap in a challenge, but I so appreciate the prompts to use up my oldies-but-goodies!

Welcome ALL NEW Frozen Peas!!!! You won't regret it. Our goals differ* but the encouragement here is universal and priceless. Heehee

*natlhol - since our goals differ, our spending needs differ, so as for me, I don't restrict myself from basics like adhesives, prints, or page protectors.

Natlhol, most of us allow for the purchase of basics like adhesive, album refills, solid color cardstock (as needed) photo printing, etc.

I am frozen in regards to patterned paper and embellishments.

When I try for a layout a day it really isn't a layout a day for me because I can't scrap everyday. It's more of a total number of layouts for the month. I'd like to shoot for 30 layouts this month, too. Keep us posted on your progress. I have two done so far and hope to have two more done today. To try to keep up I may have to try to scrap without pictures because I used the last ones that I have on the last two layouts. The ones I'm working on now are my first layouts without pictures - just journaling. I need to edit and order a big batch today and tomorrow and it'll be a while before they come in the mail. I'll give it a shot!

@ElsaBelle: Yeah, scrapping everyday was more wishful thinking. I had hoped getting a little creative everyday, especially in the morning, since I wake up before everyone else in my household, would give me some extra me time and get the day off to a good start. Instead, I find myself doing all my scrapping at night...when I should be sleeping... apparently that is when all my creative juices have decided to flow.

Good luck with your layout challenge as well!

I am super excited to read about everyone's goals for November. Definitely helps me keep motivated.

I have done two single layouts and 2 altered projects plus planned out the rest of the big 12 days of Christmas swap I am in. I need to buy a corner chomper for that but it is a gift NOT for me (I have one already and love it!).

While I am not completely frozen, I AM in the crisper. I only have a few more items that I have been waiting to purchase and once I do, that's it. I won't even have to buy adhesive for months!

I added being frozen to other areas of my life, too! I don't need more clothes, shoes, holiday decor...

mikklynn - I feel the same way. I have a closet full of shoes and clothes. When your co-workers tell you "I don't think I've ever seen you where the same thing twice", you know you have a problem. Mind you I do shop at Thrift, 2nd Hand stores and Consignment, so I get great deals but enough is enough. Not to mention I have to move out my summer shoes to have enough room for my fall/winter shoes. I have over 100 or so pairs of shoes. Again, enough is enough. So I am finding my frozen status has carried over in other areas of my life. OH, not to mention make-up - ARGHH!!! totally love make up. Discipline and obedience is my motto now. Discipline an obedience to the goals I've set forth for myself.

Fellow FROZEN peas!!! Lets go into the Holidays with a new mindset. We can do this. I am sure I'm not the only one that doesn't need another Christmas line. So, stay on track ladies. Keep your hats, scarves, coats, gloves and boots on as we bundle up together and reach our goals.

I AM CHEERING FOR YOU ALL!!!! YOU GOT THIS!!!!

This weekend marks my 1 month frozen anniversary! Miracles!

I actually have really enjoyed using up all those lovely products I have hoarded over the years. I also have kept a running list of everything I have used up and projects completed in my 1st month of frozen. It is AMAZING how much I scrapped!!! I ran out of adhesive (tape runners) again, so I will use a 40% off coupon to replace only that item for this weekend.

I have not shopped at the mall in over a month too. My frozen adventure is definitely helping my bill budget.

Stay chilly frozen Peas!

I think once we get into the new lines that aren't Christmas/winter themed, I will do much better. I am just a sucker for the fall/Christmas/winter lines lol

FELLOW FROZEN PEAS....I MADE A PURCHASE. SEE MY TWO POST BELOW IN REGARDS TO THE SALE ON THE CANON SELPHY AT AMAZON.

OMGoodness. I am Frozen and guess what? DH has a $61.12 on an Amazon Giftcard/Certificate that he knows nothing about Hee!Hee!. Ohhhh....Ahhhh. I just might have to order this. I did order it beginning of the year through QVC for $119.00 didn't like it and sent it back because I don't like that it's not a true 4 x 6, But now that I'm taking more pics on my phone and iphone, and I'll be using a giftcard, and don't due PL so who cares if it's not a true 4 x 6, it sounds like a plan to me.

UPDATE:
So I ordered it and it was free shipping with tax it was $62.08. I used the Amazon Gift Card/Certificate balance of $61.14 and charged $0.94 to my credit card. OH yea!!! How's that for a FROZEN PEA. Only spent 94 cents of our money. Not to bad!!

Treyaut, that is a really, really good deal! And it will help with the photo printing, which I bet will save you more money in the long run. If I had had the extra money, I would have gone for that deal as well. My bf is trying to see if he can fix my photo printer, but I have that one saved in my cart in case we can't and it goes on sale again

Kristol, great score!!!! And I'm certain that .94 isn't even LOOKING off the frozen wagon! It's not even thinking about falling off, it's more like digging around for change in your purse to pay a parking meter.

I ordered Shimelle's JYC last night. However, I spent less than I budgeted for it so I've got that going for me. Now I am truly frozen until February! It is so nice to have you all here for encouragement!

You will LOVE the Selphy! I print so much from my iPhone to scrap and it is one click printing-so easy!!!

My mom took me to Hobby Lobby and hooked me up with 3 adhesive refills to help keep me frozen!

I finished four layouts this week, which brings me to six layouts in my quest for 100 layouts while frozen.

Good job to everyone who made through another week in the freezer. We can do it!

Oh I think the Santa Stash sounds fun, maybe we can each list a few THEMES (christmas, fall, etc etc) and then our secret Stash Santa can pull from their stash and fill a priority flat rate envie (shipping is lik 5.95 I think) and we would all get new to us things to use? Anyone? Awesome idea!

Well, ladies, I lasted 91 days. Yesterday I bought a Heidi Swapp Serendipity paper pad at Hobby Lobby. A few days ago I started an 8x8 vacation album and was having a hard time finding enough paper in my stash to stick with certain colors throughout the album. That paper pad will help me do that. I'm sure I could have used another paper pad that I already had but this is really the color scheme I wanted to go with. I'm happy that I only spent $13 after a three month spending freeze.
