New computer in the house and we haven't unearthed my CS5 discs yet. Creative Cloud is not something I am interested in doing, even if I could afford it. I also can't afford $700 to repurchase just Photoshop.
I'm a decent user of PS. Certainly not a master. Layers are really my only concern with switching. I'm a huge fan of layered templates.
I'm really hoping we will unearth the discs as we put our office back together. But I'm wondering if I didn't download the product. I know it wasn't an upgrade because I couldn't upgrade from the version I was using then.
So has anyone made the switch down in product?

I really don't have any experience moving from full PS to PSE- but I totally agree with you about the new Adobe Creative Cloud- I'm totally NOT interested. It looks like I'll just keep using CS5 until I die! However, I just bought a new scanner and it came with PSE 10, so I think I'll install it so I can finally have both programs to compare. I do know, though, that layers in PSE is almost identical to PS, so you should be able to do your layered templates just fine. There really aren't all that many differences these days, PSE just keeps getting better. Hope you find your discs though!

I had a very old version of Photoshop and so when I went to Elements it was actually an improvement in a lot of areas. If there were any specific features other than layers that you used a lot, you could check to see if they are in Photoshop, but my guess is you will like it.

I've only ever used PSE, but I can tell you it does NOT have curves or paths...well, at least at the version level I'm at (which is old...PSE 6). But even so, there are lots of work arounds or user created actions to help you get around many of these "shortcomings".

The newer versions do. I have PSE 10 which has the paths although I don't like using it. I'm assuming it works the same as in PS though. I hear PSE 11 is much easier to load actions.

I upgraded from PSE 6 to PSE 11 and it is a lot easier to use with more options. You can load actions easily, there are more text options among others. I like to try tutorials to learn more and I have found some things I couldn't do but, I think if you were a PS user, you could find a way around the problem. There are three options, Quick Edit, Guided Edit, and Expert mode that would work for just about everyone.
