I don't know what to think because the link was very vague for me. I'm hopeful that it's a good machine because I'd love a new and exciting tool to come out. It has been awhile since a new one has come out. I own the Cricut and the Cameo, but I'm always looking for another exciting machine. It didn't give out much info. no pricing and no idea what the Scan N Cut meant, except the word " Brother" cut. I can assume but I'd rather not. I need more info. I ddid sign up for updates at the link. I'm surprised it wasn't mentioned at the Summer CHA show.

I got that too and was very curious!

I've also been seeing it show up on some You Tube videos.

Here is a link to channel that has it on a number of latest videos:
It shows some of the capabilities.

Not like I need another cutter, but its fun seeing the latest and greatest.

That looks like a GREAT machine, but I wonder how you can get custom images cut w/it.

Thanks for posting.

I got one too. Ad was just a hook -- no details. I'm curious but not too excited yet. I don't hear a lot of buzz about brother these days. Seems most folks around here prefer cannon and epson.

I got the email about and signed up also to get the update when it comes out. I did see a few vids on it and it looks like you can upload a design with a USB flash drive. Looks interesting but I don't think I will bite for awhile. I just bought the silhouette portrait so it is my new toy for now.

I am not a gadget girl. I do own the orig. cricut, a slice and embossing machine and for the life of me I can't tell you when the last time I've used any of them. I am a prepackaged embellies girl. I'm not interested in the silhouette or bigger cricut. BUT I must say, this one has peaked my interest.

Wait...so you can write something in your own handwriting and this will cut it out? Did anybody else catch that part?! I guess that's why the stylus is used...I thought it was kind of lame to have to use that to navigate the screen, but if that's what it's really for, then this is awesome!

if the "Scan" part of the scan and cut meant that you could also scan your layouts with it like you can with a typical scanner then I would be very interested because it would scan the whole 12x12 layout without stitching!

Wow! Great point, hadn't even thought of the value of the 'scan' part for layouts - only for cutting embellishments. But being able to scan and (hopefully) save a layout image to usb would be AWESOME!!!!

I saw one demoed today at my local sewing machine dealer. It is awesome! It can do fabric, paper and even chipboard. The scanner is amazing just by itself. It comes with tons of preloaded designs and fonts, and a USB port to import more. All the editing happens on the screen and there is no need to hook it up to w computer to use.

The blades are easy to change just little cartridges that slip in and out. Comes with a paper blade and a fabric blade, several ink tips too. For example if you were scanning and cutting fabric pieces for quilting, you can draw in the seam allowances!

Oh, it can scan a 12 x 12 page too.

The dealer I was at is selling them for $499.00.

All of the scrapbookers that I've seen using it are basically using it to cut out doodled images and stuff. You can do that super easy with the silhouette, so, so far, I can tell I don't need it

I'm loving what I hearing about this machine. $499.00 seems reasonable because I'm sure the sale price will be more in our range. I'm saving for this one. I've always loved the cartridge based machines because being hooked to the computer is a turn off for me. I have the Cameo but being hooked and having to learn advanced steps to use the machine to its fullest turns me off. Bring on the new Brother machine! Plus I am a gadget girl! I've got to get a new gadget the market has been slow to give us something new. Thanks for the update Speattle.

I think the normal MSRP is $599.00 but the place I saw it demoed had it $100.00 less for a pre order type of deal.

I wonder if Costco will have it? Or office supply stores?

There are two versions: The pink one is more for scrapbooking and more paper oriented stuff. Comes with a few less accessories than the blue version, so maybe is lower priced too.

Looks like the pink one is available through Amazon, and the blue one is only at authorized Brother dealers.

This looks super cool to me.

I am very interested in this machine, even though I have Cricuts and a Cameo. I only bought the Cameo to do print and cut and this machine looks like it saves me a step in that process - no registration marks needed! Once I can find out more details and better quality videos on those features I think I might be sold.

I just saw an ad for it in the new BHG Make it mag. They were featuring it more for sewing, but it looked interesting. I would love to see a demo, I have a Cricut E, but would love to get a Cameo. More freedom. I search through my carts looking for an image I need and it never matches what I want.

It didn't give out much info. no pricing and no idea what the Scan N Cut meant, except the word " Brother" cut.
On your link: If you look at the picture of the machine at the top of the page with the dove cut out, there is a small blue circle next to it saying that the machine starts "as low as" $399.00. If you look down and toward the left underneath where it has links for News and Support, you will see pictured two different machines (one blue, one pink) and it says, "Which model is right for you?" Click on the right arrow next to it and it pictures both machines with specs for each.

Going through all the videos I can find on the Scan N Cut I found these most helpful...showing stuff like the ability to resize scanned images, cut with margins, etc...the site is lacking in details but the videos do make up for it. I really think I am going to take the plunge. Unlike my Cameo this machine can actually cut thicker materials.

I hope the pricing goes the way of the original Cricut and Cricut Expression. When the first baby bug came out, the price was about $250, but within a year it had dropped to the $125 range on a pretty regular basis, and you could get them at special sales for under $100. The Expression also logged in at nearly $300 at first, but they are routinely $180 and less now on sale.

I'm intrigued, and since I am perfectly happy with my Cricut Expression, I can wait for a major price drop.

FYI, the scanner only scans 11.7 inches, not 12 inches.

You can find this info on the website where the less expensive version is sold.

I just bought one....sold some things to make the price "seem" less. LOL I will make some videos when I get it and hopefully it will help other peas make decisions.

And FYI - Ali Edwards said on her blog that she couldn't get a Cameo to cut a photo but the ScanNCut did.

Slyn11 thanks for the video links. Let us know what you think when you get it. Also where did you decide to buy it from? KatieAnna thanks for sharing too. I really would like scan to be 12 x 12 unless it shrink it 12 x 12 to 11.7 , as long as my entire sheet can be scanned I'm fine. Thanks all.

Cricutgirlg - I bought it from Amazon. According to the Brother site right now that is the only place selling it besides Brother authorized dealers. I am guessing that will change in time and I am pretty sure the price will drop like others are saying.

But I am going to take one for the team LOL and play with one now. It will be here Thursday.

I picked up mine today.

Two items were missing: the blue machine is supposed to come with a book "Cut up this book" and two sheets of high tack adhesive fabric support sheets. I have a call in to the sewing machine store to see if they will supply them.

I gave it a quick scan and cut, the machine was unable to detect most images on the scrapbook paper it scanned. It was able to detect an image that is brown, and I was able to cut it out, with great detail.

Tomorrow I will see if I can adjust the scan function to pick up the lighter colored images on the sheet.

I really wanted it for fussy cutting, so this is a major concern for me.

Camomoftwins, Thanks for the update. Sorry all items were not in the box, I would call brothers they will probably send them out to you. That's what Provocraft did for me when I was missing stuff. I'm you got it to cut. I checked the Amazon site and the pink one is sold out already. I'm hoping I can get a sale price it. Please check in again once you really get it going. So exciting!

Wow this is really exciting! I haven't got a cutter yet and have been looking at the Cameo for a while. Now I don't think I could get anything but this, that is if reviews are good and price comes down a bit.

At the moment as it is there is absolutely no information for purchase within New Zealand which is sad news but I can wait.

As a graphic designer this would be amazing, to use with a computer, a printer, the adobe suite and a tablet. You could just design on the computer with illustrator, use any typeface for your graphic, make it suit the requirements of the ScanNCut and save the file to usb or just print on plain paper and scan it through the ScanNCut, effectively you could cut what ever you wanted. Very exciting.

I would have considered Cameo but it seems so difficult to cut original images from Illustrator or Photoshop but this could do everything!
Excitied to see how it all pans out and start saving in the mean time.

At the very least, even if Brother turns out to have done an average job it will make for competition within the market and the more trusted and reliable brands will take the lead. Also making prices much more competitive.

Great points you Foxko, it's a win win for the industry to start bringing out machine that really make it easy to create for scrapbooking and card making. We are tired of the cartridges and too many functions and steps to get our jobs done. This machine does appear to be very exciting.

People are starting to get their machines...mine is at home waiting for me right now!!! There is a new comment on the amazon site which has me thrilled since I bought the machine for similar reasons as she stated.

4.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Machine..., October 3, 2013

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Brother ScanNCut CM100DM Home and Hobby Cutting Machine with a Built-in Scanner (Misc.)

I would have liked to have given this 5 stars but the instructions are very thin. I did a lot of cutting with this since I received yesterday mostly in the direct cut mode which is what I bought it for. This is what I have discovered: It does not like anything pastel or flesh colored like hands (I drew a line around my clip art in another program before printing and solved this issue). You need to keep things away from the edges or it will not outline to cut. Make sure your paper is very attached to mat or it jams after it scans

I make and sell favor boxes and I use a lot of clip art which I have been hand cutting and this works perfectly to cut out my characters and saves tons of time. I do not think it will replace my Cameo but that's OK. I do like that it does not need a computer.

Amazon needs to stock replacement mats and blades!!!!

This might be the most comprehensive posting I have seen from a scrabooker using this machine.

Played with my new machine tonight. All I did was stamp, scan, and cut which was the main reason I wanted the machine. I also fussy cut a tag from an Elle's Studio sheet.

Pretty easy to use right out the box, even the blade was preinstalled in the holder. I've only tried the standard cut blade but it has been cutting Michael's cardstock really well at 4 with zero pressure. Tomorrow I will try some thicker stuff and some more fussy cutting.

Anyway here are some pics of what I've stamped so far. (And I put all the outlines on all the stamps, the Elle's studio cut has no outline.)

A Magnolia stamp and a Bella

A Heartfelt Creations stamp - this one has a matching die but I wanted to try it in the cutter.

A Pink Paislee stamp

Here's a group shot with the Elle's studio cut, a prima doll stamp, a Heidi Swap handwriting stamp, a MFT stamp and a couple Teresa Collins stamps.

I can see some definite advantages to this but I also see some PITB things as well.

So because you are scanning files you are also saving those onto some sort of hard drive, does it say how big it is? How many files will it hold before you have to start deleting or moving off via a flash drive?

The stylus thing, I don't know about you but I lose stuff and that would be the first thing I would lose, not too fond of that part for resizing..although be it convienant.

Will have to wait and see what others think but right now I don't have too many complaints about my Cameo just yet or enought to validate for a new tool.
