You can save to a USB - and also on the machine. I haven't been saving things I have scanned unless I am making a cut file. The photos I shared are just me stamping on cardstock then cutting it out to be used immediately. No need to save.

I have a Cameo (and two cricuts) and I don't see this replacing any of those for ME - but I do see how if I was just starting out with no cutters, I could just have this for most of my basic needs. The Cameo of course does more complex stuff, but you have to willing/able to use the software...I tend not to like to be on the computer when I craft.

Also I bought the machine almost solely for fussy cutting my stamps. I am still playing with this feature to see if it works for my needs. So far pretty good, but I need to play more before I give a full review.

I did do a something cool with my handwriting just now...I know I can do this on my Cameo but it is definitely faster with the the ScanNcut.

So I wrote this and made it into a cut file with the Scan N cut. pretty good...I am going to write something a bit bigger and see how it goes.

I saw on one of the videos on the Brother website where she cut the "giftwrapped box" shape and it was jagged at the bottom. (She was holding the shape in her hand and her finger covered the spot at the bottom, but you could see the cardstock on the cutting mat and you could see the jagged bit.)

I was worried, so I just cut that image/shape myself and it came out perfect. I've cut several things and they were all perfect. I also scanned a die cut, saved it, then cut it on the scanNcut. The pieces matched up perfectly! They are the same size!

I've also stamped and cut it out... you can select if you want no white border, or the depth of the white area around your graphic.

oh! And I've been using my fingernail instead of the stylus.

camomoftwins - I saw that cutting error too...but all my cuts have been perfect as well. In fact the machine is really good at cutting...does small items better than my cricut and does thicker paper unlike my Cameo...

Love your scanning a die cut idea!

HI ladies I went to CKC Chicago hoping to see the machine live, but it was not there. I'm so glad Slyn11 & Camomoftwins are keeping us updated. I can't wait to own it. Any machine that can make some of the steps easier for me to Scan and Cut images is a plus. I will continue to use my Cameo and Cricut, but wow I am excited to have another option. It's been long over due in the Industry. I spoke with a manager from HL last week and she was wondering if they would be getting it, since they clearanced out the Cricut E, Wouldn't that be something, if Brother sold some in the larger stores. I looked up a local dealer and I plan to see it today. Thanks again Slyn11 and Camomof twins for taking time to upload pictures and give details about this fun machine.I'm excited!

So this is weird/interesting... I saved an image from the internet, and using "scan to cut" saved it to my flash drive.

I selected it, and added one of the Brother shapes, then cut all shapes at the same time. My "homemade" shapes cut out perfectly - but the Brother shape did not cut through the cardstock. The machine just etched the top of the cardstock for that image.

So I cut their shape by itself in a different spot on the cardstock and different spot on the cutting mat. Same result - it just etched the cardstock.

So it appears you need to cut Brother shapes vs. your own shapes at different times, using different blade depths, even when using the same cardstock.

Can someone else who has one can try this and report back with their results?

Did you see this on the site that sells the less expensive version?

"From a rep from Brother -
We feel that one of the benefits of using the machine is that you don't need a computer. Any image or drawing that you have on paper can be scanned into the machine and it is as easy as see it, scan it, cut it, create it. For advanced users, our intent is to launch a cloud based website in the near future that will enable users to edit an .svg or .fcm file on their PC, save and transfer from their USB to the ScanNCut machine. Please stay tuned to our Facebook page and be sure to register on the ScanNCut.com website for the latest news and announcements from Brother."

Ok so I tried cutting like you said Martha...I used two of my own scanned images from the internet - saved to usb - and one of the built in brother elements (the seahorse) and cut them all together...they all cut through for me.

Cricutgirl,

I may call them after I play with it some more.

There's no guarantee the price will go down before Christmas... only you can decide if you want to chance it. They may sell out during the holidays...

I love mine!

I just finished my video demo of the machine uploading it now...and the more I play with it the more I really like it.

Scanning in my own handwriting was really easy Cricutgirlg and the welding I did with the built in fonts was super easy too.

I am so glad I took the plunge.

Brother has great customer service Martha, so I know they will help.

Sorry I checked out for a while Slyn11 I was looking at your gallery and I think I left love on every image. You are an unbelievable scrapbooker and I just love use of patterns and colors. Amazing! Camomoftwins you make me laugh too. I can't wait to get this machine I would have to say its what I had in mind when I first though about die cut machines. Its everything I wanted the Cricut and the Cameo to be. I just wish it had come along before huge investments.

I'm happy with my Cameo right now.
I'd love to see what everyone creates with it though.

I am so glad the videos were of use Cricutgirlg. I hope you enjoy your demo today.

I did one last test...bazzill and chipboard. The machine cut both really well. Will post pics in a bit. The fact it cuts heavier materials definitely makes it more useful to Me than my cameo.

Slyn11 after I watched your video this morning I popped over to the Brother crafter youtube and watched all of their 20 videos. I am so excited about the textures you can cut. I own a ton of Bazzill that struggled to cut in my Cricut and Cameo. I was impressed this morning with the video shows how deep the blades can cut through leather and chipboard glitter paper. Wow, I work with all of these textures. I can now cut dinosaurs from the leather paper papers I own that are heavily textured. You also gave me the idea that I can scan my Dinosaur stamps and increase the size that I can customize my embellishments. I think I'm going to order the machine now because I am just so excited about it really meeting my needs for the things I like to do. I can't wait for your next video.

I'll let you ladies know what I think when it gets here. I can't wait to scan my Dinosaur stamps! I will print the pages now so that I can show you guys how I plan to scrap with it. Thanks.

Slyn......... Thanks so much for your honest and helpful reviews......... I picked up my SnC yesterday and started learning it this morning. Some stamps did great, others I had to trace with a slight pencil outline to get the Scan to see and trace. Have you ran into this also??

Looking at your Bermuda phrase (btw your handwriting looks great) I haven't figured out how to cut out the inside white space, like you did with the heart on your video....... what's the trick to cutting outlines on the inside??

Thanks so much for your sharing and awesome videos......... I love what I have been able to do with my SnC so far!!!

Slyn convinced me over on facebook....... my husband saw the BrotherCrafter feed and asked her to post some pics of her cut stamps......... I was convinced right then........

I have compiled some links on my blog and pictures of my 1st out-of-the-box attempts:

http://pieceofcakehandmadecards.blogspot.com/2013/10/brother-scanncut-1st-attempts.html

At this point, I give this machine a B..... I am not new to cutting. I think as I pick up more tips from fellow crafters and read the manual, the B will go up??? I am loving this machine!!!

If you didn't have a Cameo would you get this instead? What are the differences between the two machines. I have a Cricut & Gypsy and always thought I'd get a Cameo when my G dies. Now I'm not so sure.

2peas does not want me to post today...timeout errors galore....

Yay MiniAlbumCookbook! It is a cool machine isn't it? I am really having fun with it. So excited you took the plunge Cricutgirlg! Can't wait to see what you make.

I did have some issues with the scanner seeing one of my stamps so far - my Prima doll stamp - I played with the placement on the page and got it to finally see it...and then I scanned another and outlined it in sharpie (gonna try the pencil - like that idea better) and it picked up the outline perfectly.

You are TOOO kind to say that about my handwriting. LOL As far as cutting the inside lines...when you do the whole scan to data thing to make a cut file it has those three buttons - one is OUTLINE ONLY, one is INSIDE AND OUTLINE, and the other is, INSIDE ONLY. The screen is small so I have to look closely to see what areas are highlighted - sometimes I can move/enlarge the red box a bit and get more areas to highlight - almost like the box wasn't covering enough surface area to get all the lines. So I actually used the middle button (inside/outside) to cut my heart but I positioned the red box in such a way that the outside line of my heart didn't highlight....of course the easier way is to just use the inside cut button instead.

Here are the pics from cutting bazzill and chipboard.

Cut the bazzill big and small just to see how it would do with a 1" or so cut out of bazzill - looks good. To cut the bazzill the blade was at 4 zero pressure, which is what I have been using for all my other cardstock as well. (The Micheal's cardstock will cut at a 3)

The chipboard - I had to do test cuts (love that feature btw) until I get the right depth and pressure to cut it through. I used the standard blade to cut the chipboard (mine is a decent weight a bit heavier than a cereal box) and I had to set the blade to 10 (though I think 9 would work too) and pressure 2.

I also cut a piece of prima tag pad, which is very heavy stock and coated...my cameo won't cut it at all. The ScanNcut will cut it at 5 with zero pressure.

The scallop circle I cut out of chipboard is wonky because the chipboard was moving while it was cutting - I didn't have it taped down well enough, so I was trying to hold it in place by hand while it finished cutting.

Off to check your blog MiniAlbumCookbook.

That's awesome, Cricutgirl!

BTW, I am not new to cutters myself. I purchased my first Wishblade in 2004 and am the owner of the Wishblade Yahoo Group. I have two Wishblades, 3 Cricuts, a Slice, and a Gazelle in addition to my new ScanNCut. I love gadgets

There are things I would change about this cutter, sure. The screen is quite small for my older eyes, which makes it really difficult to line up complicated items on-screen. For instance, I was trying to create a folding screen with cut out edges on the top and the bottom like this one (scroll down to folding screen ).

I gave up and use the Silhouette Studio software to create a generic folding screen, then printed and scanned it into the SNC. That method worked much better for my project and was easy for me because I am comfortable with that software. Any software that you can design and print with will work.

The ScanNCut is super easy to use right out of the box, and cuts SO WELL that I highly recommend it for newbies, gadget lovers, and people who are not tech savvy. I have met so many people online and in person who are barely able to use a computer and they have so many problems using computer based machines. This is the perfect machine for them. I love all my cutters including my Cricuts, and this is much cheaper than buying cartridge after cartridge.

Martha
Wishblade Yahoo Group

P.S. I AM happy they are planning to incorporate SVG files in the future. (Since it is not an option now, one shouldn't figure that into their reasons for purchase, in case Brother can't do it, or in case they charge for that feature. I've seen too many people on message boards complain about features they expected but which were significantly delayed/under delivered.)

CAMom....... you sound a lot like me........ there are very few cutters I have been able to say NO to and not buy!!! I love gadgets!!!

Hey, is there any chance you will start a yahoo group for SnC?? It would be a great way to share and to be able to search as time goes on...... this thread is going to be difficult to find info in quickly very soon! I am betting there are several of us reading this thread that will join ASAP

Slyn:

Thank you for the Scan to Data Hint. I traced the cupcake with a pencil ........ 2nd pic on my blog post...... that closed the path around the stamped image and then I got a perfect scan, trace and cut!!!.....

I checked all the stamps that didn't go...... they all have an open path..... I am sure a light pencil trace would solve the problem. Pencil was very easy to erase ))

I am really beginning to love this machine......... I agree, there are things I would change...... I wish there was ONE manual for fabric and ANOTHER manual for paper....... I wish there was a cheat sheet for all the icons and their purpose!!! I would love a larger screen!!! But I am loving this machine...... I don't regret one penny spent on it! I have absolutely no buyers remorse at all

Add me to the gadget girl list too. I have a number of cutters as well. I think they all have their uses. But I am really liking this ScanNcut as a solid all around machine. I have no regrets buying this either.

I vote for a larger screen too.

CamoMom - I think I used to be in the Wishblade group, back when I had a wishblade - I didn't keep it long because back then I only had a shared computer and it was hard to get my turn to use it. LOL I agree with MiniAlbumCookbook if you feel inspired to start a new group. I would definitely join.

Minialbumcookbook - I see what you are saying with the open path thing...now I am really itching to try the pencil line.

Cricutgirlg - Can't wait to see your dinosaurs you are planning to cut.

I gave away a ton of image stamps this summer because I couldn't fussy cut them well and I got frustrated. If only I had known this machine would work so well, I would have held on to some of them longer. Crafters that like to fussy cut and color with copics I think would really find the scanNcut useful.

Slyn11, minialbumcookbook, and camomoftwins, thanks for all the support and comments. I'm hoping it comes early, but I in the meantime, I order photos from a digs we did last year with ds out West. He was able to study with several paleontologists and was the youngest person to ever dig in the Burpee Quarry in Hanskville, Utah at 9. He worked on a baby Sauropod bone all day. We hope to and take him back next year. BUt, trip was so special. I'm going to scan some of the pictures to use as background for the LOs. I plan to scan and cut out large portions of the images too, so I'm making notes and getting things organized as I wait for the machine.

I am truly gadget girl, at one time I owned 4 Cricuts, Cameo, Big Shot, and CuddleBug and over 200 carts. I love all my machines and use them daily, but I would love to add a machine like this to the arsenal. I've got big plans and know I can scan and cut my dinosaur stamps will be a big help in creating my LOs for this trip. I've been putting it off scrapping because I knew something was missing, I guess it was the Scan N Cut! I'm excited for everyone and the possibilities.

I clicked the link for the Yahoo group and it leads me to a "Page Not Found Error 404" thing. I am interested in joining when it is open to do so.

I am loving all the examples shown here of the SNC!

@Slynn11: loved your YOU TUBE videos. Nice to have a "Real World" demo of the machine. Thanks for taking the time to share with us all.

Is there a way on 2peas to reply to a specific pea in a thread? Kind of like on Ravelry?

Yes, Speattle if you click our a peas user name then on the left side it will say under their username, pea mail, you can then send her/him a private message. Good luck.

Martha, I clicked on the link but couldn't reach the page. I sent you a pea mail. Thanks for starting this group. I spent yesterday getting page kits together for a crop coming up. I'm debating about whether or not I should take the Scan N cut with me to corrupt others ( it should be here by the time crop date 10/19/13). I probably will since most of the ladies have Cricuts and Cameos. I wonder if they have an on-line manual you can print? I thought the specs said the red one doesn't come with a manual. Slyn11 please advise. Thanks.
