Happy October on the Young Scrappers thread!

Who are the Young Scrappers? We are a group of "young" 20-something to 30-something year old girls who created a group to share our interest in scrapbooking! We take the "young" part lightly - it's all about how young you feel. Feel free to join in the chat! Just post an intro so we know who you are. And post links to your layouts here - we love to share our work & leave some praise!

-------------------------------

Our ongoing challenge for the year:

For the Pinspiration Challenge, we collaborated to create a list of 52 challenges - one for each week this year! The challenges were based off of layouts we had pinned on Pinterest or bookmarked online. It is a way to use some of that inspiration we are constantly pinning on Pinterest!

There really are no rules with this challenge! It is more just a way to motivate each other to scrapbook. Choose challenges from the list that you feel inspired by, create something, and share it with us! The goal is to see how many challenges you can complete in one year.

Here is the link to the challenge list to download: challenge sheet

And here is the Pinterest board with all the challenges and sample layouts: Pinspiration challenge on Pinterest

----------------------

Every month, we will have a hostess to keep us motivated. For October, our hostess is Caroline! Her instructions for the challenges are below:

Hey girls,

Wow! October already!

Time flies by like crazy fast.. Do you all feel like time's passing quicker and quicker? I barely get round doing the things I NEED to do, let alone doing the things I would LIKE to do... It's like crazy crazy busy.. Probably has to do with needing to find a new modus with my new study and all, but sometimes I feel like I'm losing control

Anyhow.. Onto happy thoughts I'm starting this thing called Whole30 with my man today.. Check it out on the web.. It's a month without sugar, dairy, grains, alcohol and other stuff that's bad for you It requires a lot of planning ahead! I'd be very happy if we're able to keep this up for 30 days though Working on our health meanwhile I'm trying to go to the gym as much as I can.. Which isn't that often lately..

And scrapping? Well.. Let's just say that's limited to listening to PCR podcasts Don't get round to doing 'the real thing' myself But I'm sure my time will come again.. This months just crazy busy with an assignment I have to hand in next week and my exam at the end of the month.. After that I'll have gathered loads of inspiration and I'll be ready to go

Oh and a thing to look forward to: I'm going DRESS-shopping this sunday.. Yes for THE dress can't wait! My bright light in these busy days

So what are you gals up to?

@ Caroline: any news on your mom? Hope you're doing ok!

@ Monica: How are you feeling now? Any news regarding your health?

@ Loni: how's the fitness challenge coming on so far ? Yay for candy corn! I really can't wait! So curious to know what it tastes like! Do you have anything specific you would like me to send from here? I could oyt some things together for you, but if you have anything in mind, let me know

Those snow pics were crazy btw! Is that normal for you guys for this time of the year?

@ Mel: feeling better yet girl?

@ Caro: hate to see you're still struggling with the job & flat hunting Hoping things will take a turn for you soon!

@ Christina: I hear you girl! Life does get the best of you sometimes doesn't it?

@ Rach: (belated) congrats with Millie! Loved seeing her pics.. So cute!

Welcome to all new girls! My name is Dee, I'm 27 y.o. and live in the Netherlands I love cooking, photographs and scrapping (of course)

Discussion 4: What is your favourite thing about fall? (SEPTEMBER)
My favorite thing has to be snuggling up at home when it's pouring outside and lighting some candles.. Enjoy some nice food (ahem.. without sugar, grains, dairy or alcohol that is ) and watch a movie

WEEK 1: Conversation - What is fall for you ? (OCTOBER)
Spending time with loved ones, pretty colors in nature, comfort food...

Before I go let me show some layouts I made in the past couple of weeks:

Prince Charming

and

Iced Tea

Talk to you girls soon hopefully!

Good luck with all your studies! challenges (food and gym)!
and so happy for what is happening this WE!!

On top of "Choctober" I am doing this month 31 days challenge to scrapbook more, everyday I will have to do a little something. (BTW so far, no chocolate eaten!!)

So update on my foot situation: went to the GP sent me to the hospital for some X-rays, X-rays showed no fracture, so I was sent home. Luckily on my way out I went through A&E and managed to get crutches to rest my foot.

Dee, the Whole30 sounds awesome. I don't quite have that willpower to do that yet with yoga. I'm sure you will feel great after! Yay for dress shopping! I guess you can't post on IG since your man may see? You'll have to show us somehow! Great LOS!
I am pretty much germ-free now. Jonny however, has been sick for going on 3 weeks. He's been resting so it's just a stubborn one.

Caro, glad to hear your foot is okay!

WEEK 1: Conversation - What is fall for you?
Leaves changing, crisp and foggy air, sweater weather, boots, scarves, more snuggles with Jonny and high heating bills

Fall for me is when the leaves change and air starts to smell frozen. I love going in the mountains to see the changing leaves. I'm so lucky to live just minutes away from the mountains and right now looking out the window I can see the yellow quakies on the hillside. I LOVE FALL! Also, you know its fall when you can find candy corn at the store, hehe.

Dee, I sent you my favorite fall candy, so send me yours! Actually, I'm on a chocolate diet, so no chocolate please?

Happy October!!

@ Mel: Yes, we have smarties over here in Europe.. Or at least in the Netherlands

Wow, October already. It flew by. Busy, busy at work. I think they are going to let me go from my contract soon though. I'm a temp at an office and have been here for almost a year and half. So it was a good run though as a temp. I just hope it's not before December.

Read up on September's post. Hope everyone is feeling better.

Monica - hope you get a second opinion and find out what's wrong

Caro - I have my fingers crossed for you with looking for a flat and finding a job.

Loni - amazing job with the weight loss. You deserve a treat.

Rachel - Happy Belated B-day to you daughter!

Christina - Happy Belated Birthday to you!!!

Melissa - hope Jonny feels better soon.

Dee - hope you have fun dress shopping this weekend, has to be exciting. Do you have a specific style that you're looking for?

WEEK 1: Conversation - What is fall for you ?
It's going to the corn maze with my family and friends. Baking again, it's to hot in the apartment to bake in the summer.

Hope everyone is having a great week so far.

That's one hour to and one hour from work, Mel.. It's quite alright.. I cycle for about 15 minutes and then 30 minutes by train.. It's a little less than an hour, because I work right on top of the trainstation It's just enough time to decompress and read a little

Discussion question: For me fall is just the beginning of winter... I used to really love it, and it would be my favorite season, but I think I'm getting less tolerant of cold weather, so it's sad to know summer is ending. The changing leaves makes it more beautiful and bearable, though!

Okay guys, so I have kind of a weird request... I'm doing a giveaway on my blog , and for some reason I didn't get a lot of participants... so will those of you who have an IG enter it? Since there aren't many participants, there's a big chance you'll be picked, and I'd be really happy to give away some nice supplies to one of you!! Thank you so much in advance

Things are busy at work, working on a big project and though it is kind of stressful, I'm excited about it because I'll have something big to add to my portfolio/resume at the end!

TGIF!

Work then were heading up to the farm. We have to plant garlic this weekend lol (for commercial use)
I did 3 days of yoga but going to skip today and this weekend and then doing 3 double classes this coming week!

Michelle, you'll get some followers after a while. I find it easy to get more followers on twitter than IG.

Dee, that's not too bad. Your 30whole breakfasts actually make me want to eat breakfast! May have to pea mail you to get some recipes.

Steph, I know what I'm sending this year for Xmas

Rachel, how did the teaching go?!

Hi girls!

Finally Friday evening, I am exhausted...
The school is still taking me for 3 days next week (money!!)

@Melissa: yes we do have Smarties in France a favourite for the kids (and me!!), in England less famous (maybe because of M&Ms)

@Rachel: I am glad you like the IG challenge!!
How was your ballet class on Thursday?

@Loni: congrats for your weight loss!! I realised that I should have weighted myself before starting my "choctober"... anyway I don't have a scale

@Ruthie: I am sorry to hear that they might let you go...

@Steph: so jealous you already got the cards....
what no smarties in the US????

@Michelle: I won't ârticipate, because sending stuff to Europe is going to cost you an arm. So I prefer let my American friends the chance to get it!!

@all: love to read what Fall make you feel like

Caro: We do have Smarties in the U.S., but they are a different type. They aren't chocolate; they are a chalky type candy. I'm not a big fan of the U.S. version.

Wow.. That was a hectic day!

It's now 7 pm over here and we're getting ready to have dinner.. After that it's just the two of us and the couch, I guess

@ Caro: we don't do this yearly. With my family in law (a few weeks ago) it was for the first time.. And with my parents it has been almost 10 years I think! It's about 90 euros per shoot... I think this photographer has quite reasonable prices.. But I don't know what it costs in England or the US...

Will post some of the shoot with my inlaws on IG soon

Maybe I'll check in again later, but for now: it's dinnertime!

PS: i'm so done with whole30 at this point.. It's difficult to find the right products and I'm craving all sorts of 'bad' things The food we make is good though.. But I would like to have other things

Caro: I love ballet too. I really fell in love my senior year and in college- before then I saw it as the class I had to take to take everything else.

Loni: Happy General Conference weekend!!! Hope it is inspiring and you enjoy your family time.

We taught Sunday school, went to church, then lunch, then ended up buying a sectional (picture on IG) on a whim. It is something we have wanted to buy for a while, just hadn't found one we liked. This one fits out living room perfectly. And we have more seating for guests.

So now I need to rearrange my living room and forgive out how to hide my scrap stuff upstairs because our end table had to move.

Hi girls

@Dee: I thought you were doing it more often, maybe because of the pictures I saw from you and your man on one of your past LO.
Love the picture from the shoot !!!
Oh too bad that you are craving for other food, I am actually surprised that I am not craving for chocolate so far, I guess because I did not stop sugar completely it works!

@Loni: what is general conference weekend? what are you doing for your mum bday? pics look great!!

@Rachel: this couch is huge!!! and great idea to use is as a baby gate!!! (IG conversation)

@Michelle: love your new scrap table (IG)

I had a nice WE, resting yesterday.
Today we stayed in bed for a while and then met Damien's brother to try out a new restaurant, a French one called Gazette. They had chalk tables with cups full of coloured chalks, at first we where shy, but by the time we left the table was covered of drawings (mainly Damien's) (photo on IG)
then we had a walk in the park on our way home, the weather was lovely, sunny and warm!! We rested home for a our and then went to listen to an concert. 3 orchestras playing German post-war music, it was strange.
Home by 8.45pm on time for season 4 of Downton Abbey, such an eventful episode...
Tomorrow school again until Wednesday, after? Who knows...

Still looking for a job,
still looking for a flat
Doing great on my Choctober (no chocolate the whole month of October)
but doing badly on Scraptober.... (haven't done anything since the 1st...)

Dee: how long have you been doing whole30 so far?

Cato: i love downtown abbey!! I think I have to rewatch all the episodes though and then catch up. And thanks about the desk! I love it too I'm spoiled and actually have a much bigger desk outside if my room for my main scrap booking, so this one is just for my cameo and sewing machine. But I'm still excited about it, and for the expedit I'm going to build as well!

Rachel: can you pea mail or email me your address? Going to send you the giveaway prize from my blog

Caro, General Conference is a church thing. Twice a year my whole church gets together to hear the prophet and other church leaders speak. It's fun for my kids because we go to grandma's houses to watch. (we don't have tv) I'd post a link but I'm on my ohone. :/ You can find it at lds.org or mormon.org if you are interested.

Rachel, It was great as always. I always enjoy the talks and the family time. The kids had fun with cousins too. They are so lucky to have so many close cousins.

Caro, mom's birthday was good. My family worked cows that day so we had dinner and cake after they got back. She was happy to have everyone together.

Dee, I'm sorry you are struggling with your whole 30. You are stronger than me for doing it! Good luck!

first day of full work (7:30-5) i'm so tired as i'm not used to getting up this early lol!

jonny and i got back from the farm last night late as there was an accident on the higway. i was suffering from a migrane, which i never get and was car sick as i was trying to keep my eyes closed as the light othered me. i ended up vomiting in the car i think from the pain and nausea combined - too much info?

jonny got a text this morning from our "landlord" sying that he is going to move in in august. so we have to find a place... hopefully i can still have a scraproom and we can find a petfriendly place for milo!

rachel, glad your dance class went well.

dee, did you find any dresses you loved? KEEP going with your whole30, you can do it! i skipped yoga friday/weekend so i have to double up classes this week. plus this coming monday is thanksgiving so i most likly won't do it sun/mon UGHH lol

caro, i don't think i'll be scrapping this much this month just no time

Hi girls,

Just jumping in quickly to touch base with you all. As some of yoou know, my mum is not well at the moment. She has been diagnosed with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma and treatment will begin next week. From what we know so far, it has been caught early and the docs are confident of a good result. There are some tough months ahead with the chemo though. We are meeting her doctor later this week to discuss a treatment plan. Any and all prayers will be gladly welcomed.

Discussion 4: What is your favourite thing about fall? (SEPTEMBER)
New clothes in the shops.

WEEK 1: Conversation - What is fall for you ? (OCTOBER)
Autumn colours, changing into the winter clothes, cosy scarfs and hats, crisp air, sitting in by the fire watching tv with my man, snuggled up in bed listening to the rain outside.

@ Dee, tell me about the time flying…it’s just whizzing by me right now. It defo has to do with getting older. How did the big shopping day go? Spot anything that took your fancy?Saw the photoshoot pics – they looked great. And am uber jealous of your JT tix!

@ Caro, glad your foot is ok. I saw your pics of the restaurant with the chalk tables – looked like fun!

@ Mel, I hear you on the high heating bills. We just insulated the attic in an attempt to combat that particular problem. And, yes, we have smarties in Ireland

@Rach, glad the first ballet class went well. I am so jealous. I would love to go back to it. I did for a bit a few years ago…didn’t stick with it and now I just don’t have the time. I will just have to go and appreciate it again this year in the theatre.

@Michelle, I added you on IG  Good luck with the new work project. And I hope you had fun setting up your new desk 

@Ruthie, I hope they keep you on until the New Year.

@Loni, I hope you enjoyed General Conference weekend – thanks for explaining what it involved – I was wondering myself!

Had a busy day studying – I have an exam on Saturday. So now I’m sprawled on the couch waiting for A to bring me something nice home from the shops. I have zero will power while I study!!

Chat soon, I hope

xx

Hey everyone,
Sorry I haven't checked in yet this month. School started last week, and I have lots of homework already! Been feeling a bit down lately, so not real chatty either.

I did want to share that Steph and I are doing a "No Buy October," possibly into November & December! If you want to join in, feel free to add the blinkie below to your signature. If enough people participate, I may just do a prize for someone who lasts all month long!

ETA: We also decided that we could each have one "exception" for the no buying rule You can either decide ahead of time or when the time comes what your exception is. And, of course, things like cardstock and adhesive don't count.

Hope you all have a great week!

@Michelle: you seems to have a lot of free time, what are you doing? (student, work?). BTW, 2 scrap desk, so jealous!!
I also thought of you, I read somewhere that becky Higgins was looking for designers.

@Loni: thanks for explaining!

@Melissa: are you flat hunting?
Don't worry if you can't scrapbook, the challenge are just here for those who feel like it

@Caroline: sorry again to hear for your mum. How is life with your man? I can imagine how hard it is to be with a doctor... Good luck with the studying.

@Monica: I hope you will feel better soon. I feel down too. on top of job hunting, flat hunting, the weather keep changing, it is getting dark so early now and this is affecting me more than I like...
Hang in there, after going down , you have to go back up

Love
Caro

Discussion: I've actually never dressed up for Halloween before It's something my parents just thought was silly... Maybe I'll do it this year? Haha.

Wow, I don't think I could restrain from buying something for that long!! Good luck to those of you doing it, though!!!

Caro, does it seem like I have a lot of free time? Haha, I actually feel like I don't. I'm always saying how there aren't enough hours in the day!! I'm working full-time right now, so 9-5 every weekday. Then I'm usually occupied at least 2-3 weeknights with clubs, small groups, and get togethers. And of course weekends are full of fun stuff! Not much time for scrapbooking, but I don't stress about it because I'm out there having fun, and making more memories to be documented in the future

And aww, thanks for thinking of me! I actually saw that design team call today, but I won't apply because they're looking for Project Life designers, and even though I do PL, I'd rather be on a scrapbooking design team. I am applying to a couple this month, though - Elle's Studio as well as a new kit club. For Elle's Studio, it's really just hoping against hope, since I know they'll have so many talented people who will apply!! But I had to try

Caroline, I've already said this via IG but I wish your mom well. My mom didn't do chemo, but instead several surgeries and mastectomy so I know how scary and hard it will be. You have to be positive for her so she doesn't have more stress worrying about you. If you need to chat, let me know xoxoxo

Caro, not quite but eventually. Jonny is wanting to buy a place with help from his parents (houses here are starting average 700k). He has put together a "plan" of how much we pay, how much they pay for hotel and calculated it to be how much approx we could put into a house instead of paying off someone else's mortgage.

Happy Friday ladies!!
I have been sooo busy this week, just between work & school. They scheduled me for 6 days this week at work I have been exhausted! Today I have to be there at 6:45am, so I am up bright & early. Definitely not an early bird!

This afternoon my friend & I are going to the CKC vendor fair. I'm not sure if I will buy anything unless I absolutely have to have it, but then that would be my "exception" for No Buy October I'm going more just to tag along with her and for something to do besides work & school!

Have an awesome day!

Hey guys!

Caroline, I wish your mom well and I hope you feel the love and comfort you need from God and everyone around you. It's so hard to see our parents ill or injured.

Monica, you lucky duck! I mised the fall scrapbooking expo this year. They didn't do it actually.

Michelle congrats on being featured on Elle's studio!!

Dee, how is the 2nd week of whole 30 going?

Caro! Where have you been?

Melissa, sorry you have to find a new place to live!

Is anyone scrapping this weekend?

Monica, sounds like you have a lot on your plate! Are you working full time or part time?

Melissa, hope you guys find a nice place!

Caroline, so sorry to hear about your mom... hopefully everything will be okay - stay strong and positive!

Loni, thanks!! I might be scrapping this weekend, as I don't have anything planned besides building my Expedit.

Also I just thought I'd share with you all that I just posted some new printables. I think they're my favorite ones so far, because I included some watercoloring that I did by hand! Check them out here

Happy Friday!!!

Morning girls!
Yay! It's the weekend! I saw this picture on IG that reminded me of some of you.. It said:

Woohoo, it's Friday!
oh wait, I'm a mother...

Thought it was funny

What are you gals up to this weekend? For me it will be more dress shopping Two shops today and one tomorrow after church One dress from last week is stuck in my head, so I'm curious to see how today goes

Rachel: that couch of yours looks super comfy! And loved your dance picture
Caro: How long will you continue to do the no-chocolat-diet? It's probably the first thing I will eat on the 31st of October
Michelle: I've been on it since the first of October.. I think it's getting better now.. less craving I suppose.. Plus I get more creative with what to eat
Caroline: I feel so sorry for you and your family.. I really hope all works out for your mom and that you'll be able to find strength in each others company and love... My thoughts and prayers are definately with all of you..

WEEK 2: Conversation - What was your best childhood costume for Halloween ?
We don't celebrate halloween here.. so no costumes for me, ever

Well.. That's it for now! I'm off to go dress shopping.. Brought a smoothie with me for lunch! And some fruit and "nakd" bars, they're like Lara bars and they're good for on the go.. They're quite delicious.. So this helps!

Talk to you gals later this day!
