The "Not liking travel" thread got me thinking about what a big, wonderful, diverse world we live in. Seems so many have had the opportunity to see so much of it.

I love the idea of traveling in theory, but am not a great traveller in practice.

I have only in the last couple of years started to see more of this planet.

So far I have been to 5 countries, but would definitely like to see more.

I've been to:
Mexico
France
Italy
Luxembourg
Switzerland

Several islands in the Caribbean

I'm going to Morocco in the spring (and Spain again), then the next big trip will be Namibia and Botswana.

A quick tally in my head would be 17 countries on four different continents.

I'd love to do one of those take-a-year-and-travel-round-the-world trips to see so much more. If I ever hit the lottery, that's exactly what I'd do.

I have been to:

6 provinces in Canada
8 or 9 or maybe 10 states in the USA
England
Dutch Antilles
France

And that's it. I love travel, though and hope to add many more countries (and states, and provinces) to my list. I hope to add 2 or 3 states to my list next year (planning a family road trip to North Dakota).

Sadly, I'm 39 years old and I've never left my own country. I've been in more than half the states, but I've never needed a passport in my life.

The worst part is one of things I've wanted to do my whole life was travel the world. I got married young and had five kids and decided to be a SAHM. There goes my jetsetter dreams.

I was bitten by the travel bug at an early age because my dad was in the military and we lived in Germany for 6 years total in two different stints. I've passed that love along to my DH and we take a few vacations each year. I've been to

Germany France The Netherlands Belgium Luxembourg England Austria Hungary Switzerland Liechtenstein Italy Monaco Spain Greece Croatia Cyprus Israel Turkey Malta Gibraltor
10 or so Caribbean islands, Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica, good ole USA

Some places more than once, some places for only a day since we take a lot of cruises. I haven't been to any place really exotic yet but I'd like to go to China and Japan, and I have a friend who lives in Thailand who's been bugging us to visit. When we have the time, a nice long trip to Australia and New Zealand is on the list.

I love to travel as well.

I've been to: Morocco, France, Italy, England, Scotland, Ireland, Northern Ireland and the island of Corsica

Most of them before I was 20.

My next international trip that I'd love to do is South Africa.

ETA: forgot to mention Canada. Of course! I live not far from the US-Canadian border.

I've been to 3 - the US, Canada and Mexico. My trip to Mexico was just a walk over the border in San Diego to Tijuana for a few hours, pre-9/11. I've been to Canada a few times, but not for vacation - once I flew to Toronto to get a document signed (work related) and twice I drove up through Sault Ste. Marie to St. Joseph Island to pick my daughter up at camp. Not exactly big time international travel.

Only a few for me:

US (obviously)
Mexico
England
Scotland

But it is my DREAM to travel all over the world. When I see pics or hear stories of people travelling, my heart hurts. I know it sounds stupid, but it does.

Only the US and Mexico. It makes me really sad actually.

I have a professor who has been to 109 countries! She posted a list on her "getting to know me" slides on the first day of class.

So insanely cool!

I don't think it sounds stupid, it's how I would describe my feelings on the matter as well. I feel like I'm missing sooooo much! I also struggle with tourism, I want to travel and see the world, not the shiny veneer for the people with money to spend, but the real people, the real communities, and I just don't have the money for that kind of in depth, time consuming adventure around the world.

Raindancer, you might enjoy the books of Dervla Murphy. One of her first journeys was setting out from Dunkirk in 1963 in the worst European winter in 80 years - she cycled (bicycled) from Dunkirk to Delhi. Other journey include Cameroon on a donkey called Egbert, Madagascar, Nepal, Ethiopia and Peruvian Andes with a pack mule to mention just a few. She never stayed in hotels. I read a lot of her books in the early 90's and they are still sitting on my bookshelves. I feel I have seen a lot more of the world than I actually have because of her books.

I have just counted up the countries I have visited and it comes to eighteen, ranging from USA, Canada, New Zealand, Dubai, Bulgaria, Greece and lots of European countries. Ireland I visit every year followed by France every few years, Italy a few times and Germany I lived in for a summer.

USA
Canada

Me, too. While I wouldn't mind going to more countries, travel isn't really my thing. I live in the US and I haven't even been to that many states! I've been to Canada probably 10 times.

I've been very fortunate and have traveled to many places mostly in part thanks to the US military. We've lived in a few different countries and were able to travel to many others from there.

I live in the US and the only US state I've never been to is Alaska - that's on my bucket list now.

I've lived in Japan, Guam, and Italy. I've been to most of the countries in Europe... even some that don't exist now - LOL.

I've been to Singapore, Thailand, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Canada, Peru, and Brazil.

I know I'm missing some but I'm in a hurry because I have to head out
