So, I'm in a group of people and the conversation turns to shaving -- mostly preferences on shavers, single blade-vs-double-vs-multi, and shaving cream users vs brush-and-shaving-soap purists. Fascinating, I tell you.

Anyhow, someone says, "Well, everyone knows that the slower you shave, the closer the shave is." And everyone else nods and um-hums and... it's like "any dummy would know that."

Well, I guess I'm a dummy then. I never knew that. Did you?

So tonight I tried it in the shower. OMG. It's true.

So, now I'm curious. Am I really the only one who didn't know this? Were you taught it or told it by someone? Or did you just figure it out for yourself?

Inquiring minds want to know.

I just know my legs are much nicer when I shave slowly, but I never thought about why besides the obvious lack of nicks.

Seriously? The slower you shave the closer the shave is?

I had NO IDEA.

Why is that so, I wonder.

And yes, i will be trying this out next time I shower.

So, no, you aren't the only one who didn't know.

Had no idea.

I hate to shave my legs, but I have to wear shorts next week. I'm anxious to try that out. Gives me a one-time reason not to dread shaving.

I didn't know that either. Makes sense though. I speed through shaving because I hate it so much! I'm going to slow down when I shower tonight and see if I get a closer shave.

Damn! I rip along my legs like I'm racing.

That's been pretty much my approach -- just get it over with!

I went really slow tonight to test it out and there is a definite difference. But I don't know if I'd have the patience for that as a general rule.

I usually do a quick shave as well. Will have to do a test - one leg shaved slow and one leg shaved faster (normal speed)!

Just how fast are you all shaving? I've always shaved "deliberately" I think describes it better than slowly. That's how my mom taught me. Now that you mention it, the times I've been in too much of a hurry, the results were not as good.

We have often asserted and we affirm it yet again that no fact in history is better attested than the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. It must not be denied by any who are willing to pay the slightest respect to the testimony of their fellow men. That Jesus, who died upon the cross, and was buried in the tomb of Joseph of Arimathea, did literally rise again from the dead. (excerpted from Dance Your Shoes Off, Second Baptist Church)

Not really thought of it but in the movies and stuff where you see a guy at the barbers getting a shave that is always slow so it makes sense.

I have noticed if I'm in a hurry the job doesn't come out as nicely or as smooth. I suppose I will have to really test the theory.... Shave one leg fast and one leg slow... See how big the difference is.

On a side note: EOS has the most luxurious shave cream I've ever used! It's so rich and luscious you can even 'dry' shave with it. Perfect t for the cooler days when you rock the rolled cuff jeans & sweater!

Me too. It only took one nasty shaving accident at the age of 14 for me to slow things down when shaving my legs. I'm pretty sure I've still got the scar on my shin 30+ years later!

Is this becoming like the revelation about the tabs on the ends of boxes of foil + plastic wrap? No one knew and it was life changing. Haha.

My husband said I should admit that the only correlation to speed of shaving that I've ever made before is that slower speed equals less blood letting. I must have extra bony knees. I have to try really hard not to get at least one little nick.

I shave slow so I don't cut myself -- and yes, it does give a better shave. It took me a while to slow down, but a few nasty accidents cured that.

maybe we could give it a name... Mindful Shaving...

I just did the test...

First leg I did the "fast way" and the second leg I did the "slow way" and I do not notice any difference. And, it wasn't like my first leg was a hairy muppet character that significantly dulled the blade for the second leg

Anyone else have some scientific analysis of leg shaving they would care to share...perhaps there is a Nobel science prize at stake????

I learned that here too.

So now, today I have already learned two things.

1- my coffee making skills need some serious help (see starbucks latte at home thread)

2- for approximately 1 million years, I have been shaving my legs incorrecty.

y'all, it is only 9:30, this is too much. I need time to recoup before I learn something else.

What works best for me is shaving every day. When you do that, there isn't much there to shave off and it's fast.

Apparently! I learned this here, too - and lots of my 'real life' friends already knew about it!

Check on the ends of your boxes of plastic wrap, foil, etc. There are little tabs to punch in to ensure that the roll doesn't pop out of the box whenever you're pulling a piece off.

Wow! I didn't know about the tabs in plastic & foil wrap nor the shaving tip! I second that EOS has the most luscious shaving lotion! I have vanilla scented and I love it. Also, my aerosol can of shaving gel would always stop dispensing half way through. I think it was from sitting in the shower and getting wet. The EOS is a pump, no aerosol.

Tried the slow shave thing today... OMG I simply don't have the patience.

I never noticed a particularly "bad" shave before (except when the blade became dull), so it's back to every-other-day zipzipzip for me!
