|Posted: 10/12/2013 8:01:52 AM|Mine is coffee with my husband...or just sharing quiet, stolen moments with him...we talk about whatever, mostly our hopes and dreams...
tired of the govt shutdown fiasco and just hearing BAD news in general...
please share your life's simple joy...what relaxes you? recharges you? warms your heart?
could be anything...when your new puppy licks your face? a day at the beach with a good book? your children's laughter? hot guy on an elevator?
Please share...lighten and brighten my day!

A Holy Experience
When my dh hears the music playing it gives me space and knows I need time. I also love to hear Ann speak and have found several of her sessions online. Last night after a busy week he came and cuddled with me in my chair (it is a big oversized chair but we both fit) and watched a brief session that spoke to me.
Also, when my youngest ds (4) says, mom what do you love about me? He is wired for affirmation and I love being able to fill him up and tell him all the things I love.
Family dinners. My oldest is 21 and away at school but comes home twice a month (usually) and last night was family dinner. Sometimes it is a wonderful meal and sometimes a quick thrown together meal but we are there and together. I treasure it and savor it.
Loading books on my Kindle. It makes me giddy. It is like new friends.
Meeting neighbors. It has been my heart to meet some neighbors. It sounds easy but honestly in some neighborhoods it isn't and when you have lived somewhere 5 years and have done the casual wave to many and no one goes beyond that (we do have friendships with 2 of them) it is hard to do something new. I am getting to know a few more and I am so grateful.
Showing someone in need love, care, compassion, or help. I keep coming across strangers that are in a place of pain, hurt or need and I know in my heart I am suppose to reach out to them. So far, so good and they have all been receptive. There are so many hurting people in this world.
|Posted: 10/12/2013 8:32:11 AM|
I find that the moments of my day that give me the greatest amount of contentment are the most ordinary too.
I love standing in the kitchen, listening to music, listening to the kids talk while doing homework or whatever it is they do when the put their heads together and start laughing. One will wander by trying to snag a piece of something I am chopping, or stop to stir a sauce. The other will want to help, or fall out giggling at something dorky I have said or asked. We eat at the table every night, no technology allowed, and simple act of being together-even with surly teens magically turns into something else.
Those are the moments for me.

The way our golden retriever nuzzles under my arm for a cuddle or lays on my feet so she can be close to her human.
The occasional, unsolicited comment from DS16 about how hard I work to provide for him or what a good mom I am. Teenagers can be notoriously self involved so when he takes the time to notice, my heart melts.
My Keurig and French Vanilla Coffeemate.
A random hug from one of my students or the drawings they make for me. My kitchen is filled with bright pictures of rainbows, hearts, and me dressed as a princess!
The unexpected messages or texts from my uber busy college kid with her crazy course load, 3 part time jobs, and marching band officer position. The fact that she takes the time to keep in touch makes my day!

A drive through our local mountains and then lunch by the lake
Going to the pumpkin patch and hearing my DS giggle - never get tired of hearing that.
The weather today was perfect just a little bit cool and crisp but the sky was so nice and blue.
I stopped by my favorite somewhat local brewery on the way home from the mountains and picked up a few bottles of my favorite beer.
Had to go to the grocery store and I picked up a few bottles of my favorite wine on sale - not a good trend I suppose with all the alcohol but oh well it was just the way it worked.
Went to Walmart and actually found what I was looking for and it wasn't crazy crowded on a Saturday.
Another one that is going to enjoy nice clean sheets and towels tonight.
Other simple pleasures -
I also enjoy a good book or listening to the radio.
On a cool day I love to sit in front of a nice fire and cuddle under a blanket and either knit or read.

1. Being home. I work four jobs, so just being able to have some downtime home is a blessing.
2. Hanging in my PJ's, watching old movies on a rainy or snowy day. Left over from my childhood when "Million Dollar Movie" was on. Still love to do it once in a while.
3. Control of the remote - that means we're not watching football, Nascar or SportsCenter.
4. A nice mug of French Vanilla Chai tea.
5. And yes, a day at the beach. Sigh........
