I keep seeing recipes and occasionally even pinning them... but I have never had one! I'm not even sure I want to try them.

OMG a good snickderdoodle is the best. However the first time I had one about fifteen years ago I was disappointed. It was cakey and blah. However we had someone new start in our office and she brought some in and I tried them. So buttery kind of chewy with tons of sugar and cinnamon. They are one of my favorite cookies now though I have never made them. I worry they will never live up to Tanya's snickerdoodles. She left our office a few years ago and I had the recipe in my email but I can't find it now!

There is a recipe on all recipes.com called Tanya's snicker doodles. They are the ones I make and they are wonderful. Maybe they are the ones you are thinking about.

I'm not that fond of them. Cinnamon and sugar on a plain sugar cookie. That's what I taste. Meh.

If you buy the Pepperidge Farm brand, not a thing.
If your passing up a homemade version, your missing everything good in the world of buttery, cinnamony, sugary cookies.

Do you like cinnamon? If so, make this recipe and add extra cinnamon

Try this recipe, and you will know what you are missing. I had never eaten a snickerdoodle, thought they sounded boring. LOL Then, I tried this recipe, and it is one of my favorite cookie recipes. Every time I take them somewhere, they are raved about. They are the perfect combination of crispy and chewy cookies.

Chewy, sugary, cinnamony yumminess! I agree, they're only good if they're homemade. They're not crumbly, so they pack well for road trips, camping, or mailing. My family would choose them over chocolate chip any day.

When my brother lived in NYC and was homesick the one thing he asked my parents to send was her recipe for snickerdoodles. Enough said.

I adore snickerdoodles.

I have never been able to bake them correctly, though. I keep trying new recipes. Well, once or twice a year.

My very favorite snickerdoodles are from Paradise Bakery. Sooo soft and crumbly ~ melt in your mouth!

But I will be trying these recipes, most definitely.

I have always loved snickerdoodles. They're so easy to make too. I use the recipe in the Better Homes & Gardens cookbook (the red checkered one). The only thing I do different is not flatten them. My mother used a slightly different recipe when I was a kid and she always put them on the cookie sheet in balls. That will give you a nice crispy outside and a soft inside that just melts in your mouth. They're awesome.

FYI, I didn't have any packaged caramels on hand so I just used some thick homemade caramel sauce. It worked fine.

Best ones ever: Rock Springs Cafe, on the way between Phoenix and Flagstaff, off I-17. It is a must-stop for pie, and now for snickerdoodles.

I don't taste the appeal. I think they're pretty boring. I liken them to sugar cookies -- bland and not worth the calories.
