Peas, I am looking for opinions. I currently use AC albums, black for older LO's of DD, red for vacations, sage for PL, brown for family, light blue for current DD's pics. The colors all look very nice together. However, I am debating whether I want to change to all one color. I like that my colors show what is in the album but I am starting to feel like maybe my album shelves look a little like a mod-podge and not very cohesive.

How do your albums look? Do you use different colors or are you a monochromatic Pea? What color do you use?

I use WRMK faux leather albums, and I have a wide assortment of colors. I'm not even as organized as you. I don't have one color designated for one person/topic and another color for another topic. I just buy an album that I like at the moment, and go!

If your albums not matching bothers you, I guess you could switch to all one color, but that would be a lot of work, and very expensive, I would think.

Maybe just invest in more shelves, and put all one color on each shelf, so you have three black albums on one shelf, next shelf has two sage albums, etc.

I use the AC cloth albums and have a random assortment of colours! If I have two albums for one event or year then they will be the same colour but otherwise I just go with whatever colour I like at the moment.

My answer proably wont help because I keep my LO's in chrono order I keep them in chrono order. I have 4 albums that are WRMK, 3 black and 2 green. Just happened to be what I ordered but I have 3 more albums that hold patterened paper that are really bright aqua, yellow and pink and another green that holds scraps and ink pads.
You could keep the colors that you have for each category and maybe put the albums for one year together, maybe!?
I kept it simple because its just me and DH but if I had children I think I would do the same thing I am doing and add a small 6x8 for each child, that they could take when they were responsible enough to take care of it.

I use a system similar to yours. Family and project life albums are red, and then each of my three children has their own color. I like this because when they want to look at their pages, they just pull down their color book. IT doesn't matter to me if they all match on the shelf.

This would be my suggestion. I have several different colors of albums with each color for a different subject or topic. I like the different colors, but the colors are grouped together so it doesn't look like a complete hodgepodge because that would bother me.

I use the AC modern albums. I have our family albums in black, travel in brown, personality albums in red, and heritage in green. I like the different colours.

I have a variety of cover types, colors and sizes. No two albums are alike. I figured with my luck what ever I chose as "The One" would end up going out of business and no longer be available after the first few books.

Plus, none of the rest of my library has matching book covers. Why should my albums?

Regular books are different colors on a shelf, so I'm fine with scrapbook albums being different colors, too.

I have different colors. Black for old pics, dark blue for me & DH, kiwi for land/mountain vacations and light blue (aqua) for ocean/beach/cruise albums.

I like knowing what's in them by looking at the color of the album.

I have all one color cloth albums. They look kind of blah all together but I am not ready to invest in a new system. Two years ago I loved the cohesiveness

I recently just replaced all of my albums because I wanted them all to match. I had mostly navy and a few tan albums (12 x 12 D-ring Albums) and just purchased all matching black albums. Im very OCD about things matching though.

Like Scarppydo, I also recently replaced all of my albums. I had separate albums for people, events, holidays, etc in various albums. Some of them were older post bound and falling apart they were so full.

I bought the WRMK in black and reorganized all of my layouts chronological. I love how neat they look on my shelf.

I have just switched from Postbound to D-Ring with the exception of my son's themed sports albums (if anyone can tell me how to get these ring bound, I'd appreciate it). The Baby albums (2) are WRMK in Baby Blue, Grade School Albums (2) are in the school colors (Red) and the High School albums (in progress, 2, Black) The only thing that affects my sensibilities is that the albums are not quite the same color due to not being purchased at the same time.

I think it is great that you have a system for cataloging your albums. Sounds like you can easily find your vacation layouts or your PL pages. You have created a library for your memories.

The books at the library don't match. Even the faux books in model homes don't all match.

Honestly I think it is unrealistic to match all your albums. What if that color is discontinued? Or what if you get bored of 20 black albums?

I have a similar system as well....I have been using WRMK linen albums, black, coffee colour, blue, green, lt. taupe!

I use and Expedit bookshelf to store my albums and I keep all of one colour in a square, IYKWIM? The colours are not mixed up.
I like having the different colours because it makes it so much easier to find what I'm looking for.

I use almost all AC 12x12 D-ring cloth binders. I currently just have "our lives" albums (sorted chronologically, beginning with my childhood & college, then grouped a few years at a time as I make enough LO's to fill an album and/or start a new one) and travel albums (1 each for big trips we've taken annually since 2004). Because I have SO many travel albums, I actually adopted a color system within those... I color by continent! So I use Blue for North America, Green for Central & South America, Red for Asia, Brown for Europe, Aqua for Australia/New Zealand.. if I ever make it to Africa I will need a new color I store them on my shelf with all the black albums together chronologically and then all the travel albums chronologically, so the colors (besides black) end up all mixed up depending on where we went each year.

I confess I have not decided what to do with the impending influx of new baby pages (I'm expecting our first child in March!). maybe I'll do a "baby's first year" predominantly pocketed page style album in its own unique color/album style, but then after that continue incorporating kid LO's into the existing "our lives" black albums?

I think there is cohesiveness by sticking with the same album type even if the cover color differs.

Thanks for all the advice Peas! I think I will stick with what I have and maybe try rearranging them. Maybe my problem is I don't like the way they look.

Ditto. Like you, I use different AC cloth album colors to represent contents (e.g. black - family; red - preschool; navy - elementary school; brown - sports; etc.). It makes it easier to find the stories/photos. The albums manage to coexist!

I use mostly CM albums. Three different colors for the boy (blue/green), and I have 17 completed albums for him. My girl I have three colors for her (pink/plum), and she has 15 albums. I also have a red school album for each of them, a green girl scout album, two dark blue softball albums, and one black swimming/water polo album.

In addition, I have four Disney albums.

I was so bummed when CM discontinued their albums. I love strap hinge, but I may have to switch to 3 ring.

I love bright colors, so I've got a bit of a rainbow of albums!
Black for celebrations (holidays, bdays, weddings);
Red, Kiwi, Buttercup, Cobalt alternating for yearly albums (these were postbound up until this year)
Navy for DS
Orange, Green, and Aqua for PL
Aqua and maybe Red eventually will be for my childhood
? for heritage album, eventually

My issue is that I picked the 4 colors for our yearly albums when I was doing postbound. They alternate red, blue, yellow, green, and they look nice together. Now that I'm switching to 3ring though, there are lots more fun colors to pick from! (Like the bright colors I picked for PL! )

Trying to decide if I stick with my original 4, or branch out with some new colors. Tough decisions, I know!
