It's a buttercream frosted cake and I just need something for the edges. The recipe calls for toasted almond slices or shredded coconut both of which are not an option due to a tree nut allergy.

I could use chocolate sprinkles but I was hoping for some other suggestions.

Thanks

ETA its a layer cake and one layer is lemon and the other chocolate

Coconut does not fall under tree nut allergies. It's part of the palm family. Unless that person is specifically allergic to coconut, it will be fine.

Coconut isn't a nut. But I never use nuts or coconut because I don't like them.....just use sugar, crushed cookies, sprinkles, shaved chocolate, decorator candies.

Lemon drops? Chocolate pieces? Chocolate icing swirled on top?

Shaved white chocolate could work and give a similar effect.

But I have to agree that, as far I know, coconut is not off limits for a tree nut allergy.

I'd do shaved chocolate (white, dark, milk...whatever!)

Shaved chocolate. I tinted white chocolate pink and covered an entire cake for a baby shower. Everyone loved it.

Nut and coconut allergy. I love the idea of raspberries and I have some dried ones.

Sounds good. Or shaved chocolate.

Thanks
