So, if you need to stay up all night to work, study, whatever.... what do you do, use, what helps you? I'm so old. LOL... I was back in the day of no-doz ... so I am clueless.

Do 5 hour energy shots help you?

I don't drink coffee....

Give me your best tips for pulling all nighters!

Back during my inventory days (RIP Blockbuster) I drank Sugar Free Red Bull by the gallons. It worked for me.

I did it once in college...didn't help...I was sicker than a dog the next day from being over tired. Never did it again.

A couple summers ago I worked at the local Six Flags from 5pm till 3am (we counted and recounted and had to balance all the money from the park). Mountain Dew was my frenemy

I work 3 nights a week, 12 hour shifts. Day (night) one I like to drink the tea/lemonade Monster drinks. They help me stay awake and I like the taste.

I'd find a way to avoid an all-nighter, if possible.

I work nights, but my daytime schedule is adjusted for that, and it's permanent, not just a night shift every once in a while. So I'm used to it, and I get as much sleep as most people.

Diet Coke can help, especially if you're not used to the caffeine.

Why do you need to pull an all nighter? How alert and what will you be doing?

Music. Change it up as the night goes on.
Good food on hand. Can be snacky stuff like salties and sweets, but also good to have something more filling. Cup of soup, an egg... or a protein/chocolate granola bar with a banana was my 2 am snack in grad school a few times a week.
Brushing your teeth when you get tired.
Ice water.
If you don't drink coffee because you don't like it, you could consider trying a teaspoon of instant coffee mixed into a mug of hot chocolate. That was my gateway drink in high school when I frequently stayed up all night long to finish projects.
Keep moving.
Get outside for a few minutes, if you can. A couple of minutes of night air can be very refreshing.

Now that I think about it, I'll be cutting with very sharp scissors. That's probably not very smart. LOL.

I just have a bunch of orders to do, and this time of the year is always crazy. It's going to be this way till Febuary 14th. And the 2 weeks before the actual holiday is insane.

I think I'll start drinking coffee... and mt. dew.... and my unsweetened ice teas. Maybe if I do all 3, that will be enough! Oy.

When I worked overnights for a retailer for holiday resets, we drink a lot of Mountain Dew and eat lots of sugar cookies. The first night was always the hardest, but as long as we kept busy it wasn't so bad.

I always find that I am better off going to bed early, and waking up in the morning to work on things.

At midnight, I am pretty much no good to anyone. In the morning, when I am refreshed, I am way more productive. Three hours in the morning before everyone gets up, and I get much more done than if I had stayed up all night.

Like billstergirl, I work three 12 hour nights a week. The night before I work, I try to sleep normal hours and wake up early, do some errands.... NO CAFFEINE, then down for a nap by noon at the very latest. I get up at 4/4:30 and have a diet coke. Drive to work with an iced coffee... Have another diet coke or a ZippFizz early evening. Ice water for the rest of the night... Certainly no caffeine after 2am....
Home and hopefully asleep by 9am... Wake up 4 pm and do it again. And then again. I can't really do anything else.

I hate it. It's horrible for your body. It'll make you old and out of shape before your time.

HATE IT.

The day after night three? I try not to sleep all day, but get up around 1 or 2 and have caffeine. Then go to bed normally with my family if I can stay awake that long.

I'm supposedly next on the list to go to days.

I love my job: I hate the hours.

I am a night owl & regularly survive on about 6 hours of sleep per night, but I find if I get less than 5 hours I have such a brutal headache the next day, and my whole body suffers. Your body will not thank you for doing this, and you will find that your overall productivity will suffer. Maybe a few 15 minute catnaps throughout the day can help you pull longer hours, and then still try for at least 5 hours at night. But after 3 or 4 days of this your body & brain will be screaming at you!

Your so right about this. It's like, do I work like a bat out of heck putting in crazy hours? And then risk getting sick because you're run down, tired, etc.? Only to fall further behind than when you started?

You just can't win.

I really like 5 Hour Energy and have used it several times.

If you are not sensitive to caffeine it should be fine for you too.

I checked with my doctor and 5 hour energy is basically filled with a ton of caffeine. The reason they can put "contains caffeine comparable to a cup of leading coffee" is because it also contains a type of bean. The bean itself contains a ton of extra caffeine.

It also contains Niacin, Vitamin B6, Folic Acid, and Vitamin B12. When it wears off, it wears off gently without a crash, like a sugar crash would.

It also has only 4 calories, and is better for my body than a soda like Mountain Dew or Sugar Cookies. Sugar only helps for a very small amount of time and then you crash, so to me there is really no benifit.

There are times in my life where I do find myself needing to stay up and pull an all nighter and I'm no spring chicken either at 53. It happens. 5 hour energy had helped me in these situations.

Middle of the night showers if you have time. Also I keep a little squirt bottle with me that I just spray my face... it cools me off and wakes me up, its actually pretty refreshing.

Freshman year of college I would pull an allnighter once a week as a freshman. I had English papers due every week. On Tuesday, the draft was due, so I spent all night Monday writing it. My roommate was in the same class, so we would check on each other periodically, to make sure we were both still awake. I didn't drink coffee yet, so I'd go through about a six pack of coke. The final draft was due on Thursday, but that took a lot less time.

After college, I was a retail manager. Two weeks a year, I had to work graveyard shift, getting the store ready for the holidays. I slept during the day, went to work in the dark, left work in the dark. That was really disorienting, but I managed to do it without too much caffeine infusion.

Or, like billstergirl, you can have a friend whose husband calls you in the middle of the night on her phone and then hangs up, thus causing you to worry when he doesn't answer your text.

Not that I'd know anything about that....

DS stays up all night at least once a week for studying.
I bought him crystal light energy.
He likes it and it helps
He also takes Excedrin because it helps with the headache he always gets and has caffeine
And he drinks diet dr pepper.

We were out of dr pepper last week so he stack a red bull red edition that he got at the Color Run and liked it, but the effects didn't last long enough.

Seems to me that my all nighters in college generally involved bars, copious amounts of alcohol and 24 hours restaurants.

Probably not what you are looking for though.

I frequently exist on 4-5 hrs sleep due to a health problem and seem to cope ok. I think you would be better to do that- sleep from 11-4/5 or 12/-5/6 and then crack on like crazy. If you start making mistakes it will cost you time and money!

Thanks for all the suggestions peas~ I do appreciate them!~ I'm trying to get by on 5hrs of sleep (ANd I AM A PERSON that NEEDS 8 hours) just once or twice a week. So ya, LOL... I'm too old to literally pull an all nighter. Oh hell no. With 5 hours of sleep, my 7yr old was like, "What is your problem????" when I poured OJ in his cereal this morning. ya. brilliant.

But I do! I have my 14 yr old son (big bad football player) rolling out my background shapes on my cuttlebug. He's getting $5/hour to pay off a video game I got him this last weekend. (hey. He's not 16 yet, so he doesn't get min. wage. )

thank you for the kind words Legacy girl. been doing this for 13 years now.

snort... He has school. Plus, he's the typical 14yr old... get's sidetracked and has to be gently guided back to work. Let's just say he still needs a wee bit of supervision. Don't get me wrong, he is a good worker and if it wasn't for him???? I would be crazy behind. He has rolled out stacks and stack of tags, scalloped circles, etc. (my background shapes I use for my pretties. )

HAHA! Good for you! Put that boy to work! He's gonna' be wanting a car soon!

He gets our hand-me-down and I get the new car when he turns 16.

I just should have had more kids! Think of the scrapbooking army I could have had! Actually, I do know one woman on etsy. She sells cut out shapes. The ones you cut out from nestabilities like I have.... and she sells an amazing amount of them. We have become friends and I asked her how she sells so many, ....Her 3 kids do a lot of the work, and it's a family business! So yes! Child labor! Woo hoo!

I'm a coffee drinker, but when I have to pull an all-nighter, it's better to stay hydrated and drink a lot of water. I'm partial to Pellegrino mineral water. And your favorite music. Get up and walk around, love on your pets if you have them.

Those five hour energy shots does wonders for stay up all night. I have used them for driving at night before. They work great. my problem is that after taking on I am up for at least 24 hours wide a wake like I just took it. Takes me about 2 days to get tired after using one. But I am a natural insomniac and I don't normally sleep good any way....

Happy scrapping
