Maybe it's just me, but my youngest dd has just turned 10 & now I'm remembering how difficult it was to buy for her sister when she was that age.

She's over toys...but not entirely. A Christmas morning filled with clothes, shoes, lotions & potions etc would make her older sister over the moon happy, but younger DD isn't quite there. She WANTS to like a toy & then is completely disappointed when she gets it. Her birthday was in October & she got several things she had asked for & we ended up returning them because she realized she was just too old for him, they bored her.

Rainbow loom & magic marker maker were huge hits & she loves those...but finding other gift ideas is hard.

My current dilemma is she's going back & forth on wanting the American Girl doll Saige. Girl of the year, if she wants it, I need to get it now.

But one day she'll really want it, and the next she'll be totally over it.

And I know, if she gets it, it will be a week or two of showing interest & then poor Saige will just lie in a doll bed not being played with. And that's a pretty expensive item to get your kid knowing they won't play with it.

What are you getting the 10 year old in your life?

Mine will turn ten in feb. she will be getting a tablet computer (not an iPad, a cheap android model, as I know she can be rough on electronics) and a Furby. The tablet will have the app to operate the Furby. I think Furbies are stupid but she already wanted one last year, so I'm giving in now.

Other than that, a monster high doll, a jig saw puzzle, some bath stuff and new jammies.

Furby! She's mentioned that! I'll add that to my list.

My youngest is also 10. She wants a couple of AG accessories, some clothes, soccer bag (soccer stuff is good for her), Ipod touch, Vera Bradley lunchbox, Wii games.

I have to ask the kids for ideas because I am not creative at all when it comes to gifts! My sil and I always say that we would love for our husbands to do all the gift shopping because they come up with great ideas!

I think that's one of the bummers of having a birthday fairly close to Christmas...she got an ipod touch for her birthday & she loves it. If anyone is holding out, I swear, ipods are the best gift. They are the only gift I've ever given my children that they "play" with every day for years.

I don't think being creative with gifts is all that it's cracked up to be for kids. I'm sometimes creative, but it often falls flat...they're like...um, does this come up with an American Eagle gift card?

I got older dd one of those smash books last year, pens, tons of stickers etc...it's never been touched.

My 10 year old has never been into toys. She's going to get a big box of art supplies (paper, glitter, punches, glue, paint, good colored pencils, etc), a rainbow loom and smelly lotions. The one thing she's asked for is this Conair curling iron thing from the Justice catalog. It is a handle that has a curling iron, flat iron and crimper head that snap into it (totally interchangeable). Beyond that, an iTunes gift card for her iPod Touch and clothes.

I have a 10 1/2 yr old girl & I totally agree!

So far I have bought her an origami owl locket with a few charms, she will get an iPod from Santa and this Loopdedoo spinning loom

I saw it at our local toy store & since she likes the rainbow loom so much, I thought she would like this as well. I'll probably get her a few more things, plus stocking but I'm not sure what. Probably a crafty thing or two & some clothes.

My 10 year old dd and 11 year old DS will be getting phones, cases etc. It is time. They are often out with friends, after school, and we have no land line so all thei friends call my cell. We can get them phones for .01 and an additional $9 a month each to our family cell bill.

She isn't into dolls, has a rainbow loom so will get a few things for that and a few books

I have a 10 year old little girl. Here is what I have so far:

Electric keyboard & sheet music
Lego friends Stephanie's car (these might be a great idea if she is crafty and wants "toys" but is not really a toy)
she really wants "real" make up, but I think she is too young but I plan to put some lip gloss and light color mascara in her stocking
Rainbow loom
Hobby Lobby gc
a lamp for her room
Last year we got her a kindle probably my favorite thing, she is reading so much more this year! To encourage that we are getting her an amazon gc so she can buy books.

I don't think I would get her an American Girl doll if I knew she wasn't going to be into it for very long.

Love the cake pop maker! I will probably get that for her - I think she would really enjoy it!!

ETA: Sharpies! The girl loves Sharpies! So I am getting her a big multi color pack.

My daughter is a little bit older now but when she was that age I got her
THIS CRAFT BOOK on a whim. It was the most used Christmas present, so much so that for her b-day a few months later she asked for the other book and an expansion pack. Her room was decorated with little paper fashions for months! I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Does she like to read? A good book, or a nook/kindle (the ebook kind not the fire) preloaded with a couple books would be nice.

Or, if she likes bathes you could get her some bubble bath from bath and body works. More grown up then kid bubble bath, but still touches on child like fun.

DD is 11, and she has been having a good time with the Perplexus game. She got one of the higher level ones and has been tinkering with it for a couple of weeks.

She is also into the Ever After High dolls. Since she got the EAH dolls for her birthday, the only stuff left on her list for Christmas is Nerf Rebelle accessories (I think she got all but one of the guns for her birthday, too) and Rainbow Loom accessories. I've got to come up with something, too.

Thanks for the great ideas, Peas! My granddaughter just turned 10.

She is getting some kind of tablet...not Ipad. She also wants a bean bag chair.

I think I'll get her the cake pop maker - what a great idea!

Most of the things I'm buying my dd or having family buy for her are already listed by other peas.

Lego friends sets
bathrobe and slippers
Saige and other AG clothes
Books
DS games
headbands
Arts/crafts sets
particular purse she picked out while on vacation.

The only thing I have got for her is the Rainbow Loom.

She has a laptop on her wish list which ins't going to happen I don't think.

Not sure what else I could get her.

I have been thinking about an easy sewing machine. Should would like that I think.

dang it I was going to say rainbow loom lol
those darn band bracelets are so popular.
So sticking with the trends that are out:
anything mindcraft related, (she has an xbox 360 with mindcraft at the top of her list )
then the next thing she wants is an ipod touch mini
then a battery operated razor scooter

she was 10 last year and we got her a razor scooter, knee pads, video game, and some books.
Even though she's almost 12 now, she'd love an easel.

My 10-year-old DD is still totally into AG. She is also really into music, so I'm thinking if getting her a small iPod to listen to. She loves art supplies and books, too.

I second the Babycakes cake pop maker. My 7 year old loves it, and it's popular with her friends too. I have to help a lot, but an older child could use this with limited help.

My 10 year old asked for and is getting a 3DS and a couple of games. She still plays with her old toys occasionally but says she doesn't want any new ones. Her birthday is shortly after Christmas and we're thinking about a new bike.

I'm struggling also with what to get my DD - age 9.
So far, I have gotten her the Rainbow Loom.

DH just switched from his Dell Laptop to a MAC - and we are wiping the hard drive on his Dell and then setting it back up with her in mind and giving it to her for Christmas. I believe he is also planning to buy MineCraft to put on it for her.

Beyond that, I'm pretty clueless this year! She doesn't really play with her toys anymore - except for Littlest Pet Shops because she likes to make videos with them.

I'm thinking I'll probably get lip gloss, clothes, stuff from Bath & Body Works, a pretty journal to write her pet shop "scripts" in, Amazon and/or iTunes gift cards, etc. I love the idea of a set of Sharpies - she would love that.

My daughters are 14, 11 (will be 12 in December), and 6. Here's what we have so far..

earrings
nail polish
fuzzy socks
cross body bag with cash and gift cards (14yo and 11yo)
PS3 Disney Infinity
PS3 Just Dance (latest version)
school spirit wear
soccer socks, practice t-shirts (Batman themed this year)
Monsters University
books
LaLaLoopsy dolls (6yo)

other items we'll be looking for..
Monster High dolls
Ever After High dolls
Despicable Me 2

I need to decide what our 6yo's big gift is going to be. I'm not sure if I want to give her cash and gift cards or not.

I have a dd that just turned 11. I agree that it's a hard age to buy for! I have a 13 yo dd and a 7 yo dd, and they are both way easier this year. Here's what she has on her wish list:

-Lego Friends
-Lip balm making kit
-Soap making kit
-Bike (She's still riding her little kid bike and is ready to move up to the more "teen" type bike.)
-Nerf Rebelle Bow
-Hair dryer
-Full length mirror for room
-Room decor (preferably craft kits that she can make her own decor!)
-iTunes gift card
-Cute outfit
-Camelbak (we like to hike in the summer)
-Adventurers Wanted book series
-Claire's gift card
-Fuzzy Bathrobe
-Discovery Girls Magazine subscription

Hope that helps! I know I've gotten a lot of great ideas on this thread. I've added the babypops maker to my 13 year-old's list; she would have a ton of fun with that.

My DD just turned 11 and she, too, is in the difficult to buy for category.

Her big/Santa gift is an iPod touch. She's had various iPod versions over the years (all hand-me-downs), and got DS's hand-me-down iPod touch last year. The problem with it is it is so outdated that there are so few apps that she download onto it. I purchased a refurbished 5 on the apple site, so although still not brand new, it will be new to her.

I've got a couple of wish lists running for her on Amazon (one just for me and DH and one to share), and they include a bunch of crafty things, store gift cards and the Full House series on DVD (lol). I purchased her a nail polish set from Costco as well as some AG doll accessories, and will likely get her lip gloss and hair stuff as well.

I've got a lot of things on her list now. Excited to start shopping!

My 10 year old is actually really easy to shop for! She still likes some toys and I am fine with that! We still do S too and she still believes as far as I can tell.

Her big gifts are the Monster High vampire house thing and a new American Girl doll - either Saige or Caroline - I can't get her to decide on a favorite.

Smaller gifts - MH doll, MH scooter, rainbow loom, bands, and book, a craft kit - some tattoo kit thing, a spirograph with colored pens and paper, a mandala book (detailed coloring pages), Simon says game, a new outfit from Justice, and I think that's it. They'll get the new wii Just Dance to share. Always new pjs and a new book on C Eve.

Oh my goodness - I just looked down at my siggy and my 10 year old was only 2 in that picture - kind of makes me sad! Dang it goes too fast!

Does she like craft stuff?

Last year for my daughter I got a Tupperware box and went crazy at the dollar store- 30 bucks goes a LONG way there! Lost of glittery rhinestones and paint and mini canvases and foam stickers and gimp. She liked it, but her 10 year old friend went crazy with it when we had her over after Christmas, LOL. Every time she comes over, my dining room dissolves into a ten year old Martha Stewart explosion.

Mine is getting older too bit she asked for barbies dream house so we will see.
A piece of advice? Don't get her Saige. She is uglier in person than in the pictures. She has huge, fake-looking freckles. I almost bought it online but then we decided to take a trip to our local AG store and she was so disappointed when she saw it and decided for Caroline instead.
