seriously, all she does is SMILE. I just want to tell her that nobody is that happy all the time. What is her secret, she drinks white wine spritzers all day? OK!

I'm off to dye my who-ha ha!

Yeah but it costs nothing to smile and your smile just might be a bright spot in someone's day.

I love her blog and a lot of her recipes have been a hit around here but I caught the tail end of her show the other day and it just has a forced, awkward feeling to it. She was making marshmallow pops with one of her daughters (I think) and I flipped the channel before the show was over because her personality was so grating.

I've been following her off and on for years and have tried a lot of her recipes. But jeez, her show? It is almost painful to watch. I am happy for her success, but have only managed to get through one episode.

I used to be a huge fan of the Food Network, but now there are way too many competition shows. I appreciate that she has a show where they actually cook food you'd make for your family. I like her.

I doubt she is happy all the time. Her show is less than 30 minutes long and has a goal in mind ... to make the viewers think cooking is a fun (which means happy) activity of a "normal" family.

There is also cultural component of being Okie. As a whole the people in this state have a smile reflex when making eye contact with another person.

I enjoy some of her recipes and we both watch her show, but she has a hard time making small talk for the camera. Her cooking is so natural, but the talking seems hard for her. Trisha Yearwood comes on afterward and it's just the opposite. I don't enjoy her recipes as much, but she is very at ease in front of the camera. I think it is just a difference of being in the public eye as long as Trisha has been, while Ree has not.

Well, no matter what you think of PW, ya gotta love her success story! Didn't she begin with a blog that grew into *all this* over the course of five years or so?

I noticed in the Sunday paper her cookbook is Number 1 on the non-fiction best-sellers list.

I haven't followed her for years and I guess her kids must be teenagers by now

If I had her life I'd be smiling all the time too lol. Not that it's perfect I'm sure, nobody has a perfect life but it seems like a good one.

I really like her. I even like the show, though I do agree she doesn't come across as well on tv as she does on the blog etc. And yes, Trisha's personality comes across better. I love her show! Haven't tried her recipes but there is a raisin bread in a can recipe that I keep eyeing.

i don't mind the smile. It is the voice that drives me nuts. We have made a few of her recipes and they are nummy but I can't sit through her show. My husband and daughter like the show and they record it and watch it but I can't sit there through a whole episode.

She's also very nervous on camera. That my manifest itself in smiling, voice or other similar ways. I laugh. Doesn't mean that's really how I feel.

I think the reason she comes across as so awkward is that she's trying to duplicate what she does on the blog to what she does in person and its just not working.

I think she needs to just focus on narrating what she's doing and not try to be so witty and silly like she ia on her blog.

I might be a little weird because I get the feeling that it's just her face. Like those people that have bitchy resting face. I think she has the opposite problem.

Her show doesn't bother me but I think her blog is much better. She comes across as much more relaxed and natural on the blog, a little too nervous on tv.

I just don't think Ree has a personality for TV. Yes, she is very funny and witty on her blog, but it does not translate to the screen. I am so-so on her recipes. Most of them head into Paula Deen Heart Attack on a Plate territory with all the butter and heavy cream she uses.

I really don't care for these "chatty" style cooking shows unless the host is a naturally chatty type of person. I love watching Nigella Lawson as she is very smart and naturally charming in front of the camera. I get tired of watching Ree's husband round up cattle and move them from one place to another. I don't find him exciting to watch either. I know she loves her man but he just doesn't do it for me. I would rather they cut out the "what's happening on the ranch" stuff cause it is really boring and just have her cook more.

I enjoy her recipes and her show (including what's happening on the ranch) but I don't think she's a natural in front of the camera. Not her hubby either. The kids are great, though.

For the record: I put on 25 lbs after I started reading the NSBR and returned to cooking under the peas' influence, mostly Pioneer Woman recipes. THANKS A BUNDLE, PEAS AND PW.

I've finally taken off those 25 lbs and still have a long way to go!

I don't that she's too happy, I think she's just a fake. There's happy and then there's trying too hard happy. And she comes across as just fake and trying too hard to be something she's probably not. The show is a train wreck, but it's no secret that I can't stand her. Her fake happy personality doesn't help.

I enjoy watching her show even though the recipes are usually impractical for my family, but I like the slice of her life that we get to see. I mean, it's a working cattle ranch in Oklahoma!! There's nothing like that around here. It's all very interesting and just so different from my own life. THAT's what I like to see on her show almost more than the food!!

I'm not a PW fan, at all. Her family can eat those high fat recipes because running a cattle ranch is very physical work. The rest of us aren't that active in our day to day jobs. Plus, from one of the anti-PW websites that a pea linked here once, It's said that Ree doesn't even WRITE her blog anymore, she's got paid writers to do that. She's got hired teachers who 'home-school' her children. The Drummond family gets a heavy government subsidy to house the wild horses on their Ranch. Ree came from a wealthy family even before she met Marlboro Man. Her father was a cardiologist.

I watched her show once. It was painful.

She is different than some women and that makes it hard to relate to her but that doesn't mean she is annoying or fake. We are all made uniquely and finding the beauty in that and valuing the differences is what I love to see women doing. I don't think she is fake at all. I think she is crazy normal, crazy rich but doesn't live like a rock star, finds immense beauty in her life, her family and Gods creation. Oh and she LOVES food and feeding other people. I read her blog in the early days and liked it. I didn't love it. When her cookbooks came out I thought why buy them? I have a ton of her recipes online for free. Than one day I was at the library and picked up her book about her romance with her dh. That made me really like her. After that and I went and bought both of her cookbooks. I watch her show and find it super relaxing and like therapy. Cooking is like therapy to me, relationship matters deeply to me (and her shows all center around bringing food to others in some way or celebrations together), the way she cooks and teaches is down to earth and honest. If you don't like it, than don't watch it. I just bought her newest cookbook and can't wait to find time to look at it.

I don't think she's fake, but she doesn't have a tv personality, at least not yet. I(it may come in time). I love reading her blog and recipes, but her personality, as Bethanne said, doesn't translate on tv. I think it's just unnatural for her.

There is a huge amount of work that goes with that. Yes they get money for it - but they have to care for and manage them, not to mention the work it would take to make fence for them. Fencing, whether for cattle or horses is a huge amount of work and takes a great deal of money to maintain. You just don't build a fence and walk away either. Daily checks and maintenance are involved.

Finally caught an episode and she didn't wow me; she reminded me of a Wild West version of Martha Stewart. And I agree with the posters that stated she seem uncomfortable in front of the camera.

The only two "cooks on TV" I've ever loved are Nigella Lawson and also that Cajun dude Justin Wilson. He's long gone, but damn he was funny! JustinWilson

Cardiologist/Orthopedic Surgeon--same difference, a specialist who makes good money. MUCH more money than a general family practice doctor.

Yes anyone CAN get paid for wild horses but not everyone has the thousands of acres required to house them.

To each their own. I don't like PW and there's those of you that do. I'm entitled to my opinion. I did buy her first cookbook and her Romance Novel love story about she and Ladd "From Black Heels to Tractor Wheels" (or something like that}, which I donated to my public library after I finished reading it. Most of that story, she'd already published on her website. So she got some of my money, but no more.

I don't like to cook so I'm sure that has something to do with it. I work a full-time job outside of my home responsibilities so aint nobody(me) got time for that. Never been a SAHM and probably never will.

I want to be interested in her show, but I can't get into it. She just bores me and imo doesn't have the charm for the camera that others (like Giada) naturally do. She has a lovely life and some nice family recipes, I just have no interest in watching her make them or talk about them.
