I know, if I have to ask.......

BUT, I do want to ask.

I have a whole stack of t-shirts with different characters on them that no longer fit DS. Lego, Starwars, Phineas & Ferb, Disney characters, Pokemon, etc.

They have no holes, no stains, but they were his favorites, so they do look worn. You know how less expensive cotton Ts get fine pilling on them after awhile? They have that.

So, anyway, if they still fit DS I would have no issues with him wearing them for play. Which makes me think others may want them for the same reason. But I don't know if Salvation Army or Goodwill (Our 2 local choices) will want them.

Then, I am also wondering about a whole stack of size 2 toddler underwear. They are barely used, and some were never used. It was the size I bought at the beginning of potty training but they were tight from the get-go, so they were worn a few times and I moved on to the next size. These have no signs of wear at all, but they are still used (or at least open) underwear. And my first instinct was just be to toss them. (I also have toddler socks, but they have all been worn.)

But then I remembered that I keep seeing/hearing places asking for donations of socks & underwear for kids because they are not an item parents can easily find at places like thrift stores.

So is that because the people donating feel icky about it and don't send any, or is it because people send them, but the stores won't put them out?

I don't know.

So, what do the Peas think? Do I toss these things into a Goodwill bag or a garbage bag?

(I also have the option of the free boards for our area, too, if you think someone might like them if they had the explanation to go with them. I could even guess pretty accurately which underwear were the never worn ones. He basically kept re-wearing the same ones over & over.)

I would donate it all and let those in need decide whether they wear used underwear or t- shirts.

Donate them. The recipients can then decide the suitability of the items as clothing, package them as rags or send them to textile recyclers (yes, there is such a thing)

I suspect they don't get much in the way of children's underwear because families with those items in good condition wouldn't dream of buying used underwear and can't fathom that someone else is poor enough to do so.

I would ask the local woman's shelter if they could use these clothes. Very often, it is only the clothes that the people are wearing when they come to a shelter and this donation could benefit them.

Call first.

I would say yes to all of it.

I have quite a few learing disabilitys that effect my spelling a grammer. I do know my grammer and spelling suck. I have been working on this problem all my adult life.

most good will places are overwhelmed with t-shirts. I know at our church's rummage sale they have asked people not to donate them.

I would donate. If if you don't think clothing items can be used or sold, check to see if they have other uses for them. I know some places take clothing items they can't sell as an individual item and sell them by the pound to companies to be used as rags. A newspaper I used to work for bought them by the barrel to be used in the press room.

Offer them on freecycle.org and see if anyone takes them.

Try the local women's shelter. Perhaps you could donate a few to your child's daycare for when kids have accidents etc.

Goodwill and the Salvation Army bundle up unusable cotton clothes to sell in bundles for rags. As long as they are clean they should take them.

Thanks everyone!

I didn't know about the rags, so I am glad that was pointed out. We reuse some old clothing for rags ourselves, but once our rag basket gets too full I have thrown clothing away before that I felt was definitely beyond wearing again.

So now I will know to go ahead and send them. I am all for reusing items so if anyone can use something we no longer need, I definitely want to pass it along.

I never would have thought to ask at a daycare or preschool, either. They always ask parents to send in extra clothing for their own child, but I can totally see a parent forgetting to replace or update a clothing bag, or even a child having more than one accident in the same day.

donate underwear to foster care or preschools.

I am to the point that I am making rags out old t-shirts.
