My DH and I are going to Ruth's Chris for dinner as our Christmas gift to each other. The menus online have no prices. What are we looking at (roughly) for dinner for 2? We are going to the one in a Pittsburgh. TIA

Easily a couple of hundred dollars, possibly far more if you have expensive taste in wine--but they are my favourite steak house

I personally have never been there but dh has. He said it was the best he ever had. Make sure you try the side dishes too.

Agree with $100 a person if you share an appetizer and get two sides and one drink each..... it too is my favorite, but it is very easy to walk away with a high bill! DH and i make a whole night of it and usually end up hanging out at their bar afterwards..they do have a bar menu that is slighty cheaper at least at the Charlotte location.

Wow! I live in po-dunk Iowa. I have heard of Ruth's Criss - but never been to one. It sounds like a great idea for your gifts to each other though.

A lot of the little towns have steakhouses around here (by small town - I mean around 500 population) - sometimes there will be one out in the middle no where.

These places are AMAZING! I had a prime rib last night that was fantastic. Most wonderful flavor, tender, cooked perfectly. It came with salad bar (all homemade) and choice of potato. I had a couple mixed drinks. My part of the bill was just over $20. 6 of us, and a $100 bill paid for the whole tab.

It's actually Ruth's Chris Steakhouse.

Ruth's Chris Steakhouse

If you're not a big drinker, you can get out for under $200. I noticed the surf and turf was less than $50.

Yum! It's our favorite restaurant and the only place I ever eat every last bite of my filet. We use our Amex points to get gift cards because it's usually around $225ish.

I'd say the steak alone will run you about $50 and that's before you add a vegetable and a starch. So about $100/person is probably accurate. If you are a drinker, the per glass amount, I think the cheapest was maybe $12, if not $15/glass.

I've been twice, once for a work lunch and the second time I took DH when he was declared "cancer free". DH fought me on going there because of the prices and now ask him and "it's the best meal he has EVER had" and he wants to go back.

Enjoy! That's a great Christmas present idea. I may have to borrow it.

Estimate $100/person.

Note Ruth Chris soaks its steaks in butter. This Southerner prefers Sullivan's, Morton's, The Palm, Shula's, or any of the other chain steakhouses.

Hope you enjoy your night out!

I don't want to throw a wrench into the works but I think both Hyde Park and Ditka's are better than Ruth's Chris and they would cost about the same. Just something else to consider!

I don't know if they have them this year, but check Costco for gift cards. They have carried them in the past, and it is usually at least a 10% savings when you get a gift card there, and often it's more like 20% (so it's like they cover your tip LOL).

I've eaten at different locations throughout the country (none in OH) during the last year, & a combo meal was never an option. Perhaps it was some type of weekly or holiday special?

I wish ours had combo meals. We haven't been in years but looking at the menu posted it has gone up quite a bit in the past 10 years or so. I still know DH would love it.

I think the combos are special promos that they occasionally run. The one I have been to a few times has it as an early bird special. I would say $250 with a tip would be pretty accurate if combos aren't offered and you don't go overboard with drinks.

DH and received a gift card a few years back. We went to a Ruth Chris in NYC after catching a show. We did enjoy the meal and the service was great, but it was very expensive. We had a $100 gift card and had to add another $100+ to the bill.

Thanks all. I appreciate your thoughts. However, if you don't want to spend that kind of money, fine. Obviously from my question, this isn't something we ever do. This is our gift to each other. We send money to a homeless mission and the county food bank throughout the year. I feel no guilt on spending a nice evening out with my husband. Nice try on the guilt trip, tho.

Isn't it wonderful that we all live in a country where we are free to spend our own money the way we want?

I'm sure many people could eat and be clothed on the amount that some people spend on, say camera lenses?

Jonna, I hope you and your husband enjoy your night out!

Cool! My DH's parents live near Indiana, PA and his Aunt and Uncle used to be pastors in Latrobe! We were just there last weekend for a family dinner and drove through Greensburg to get there.

I'm north of Pittsburgh - just north of Cranberry Twp.

We were in Greensburg not too long ago picking up a grill at Sam's Club and we ate at a really nice restaurant that I had never heard of before and it was so nice. Food was great! It was called the Pepperwood Grille. Nice place!

We had a bad experience at Ruth's Chris in Scottsdale many years ago (service, not food) and have never been back. I would like to try them again. I do think Shula's is a nicer restaurant and we enjoyed our meals there a lot. So, the next time you are planning a special meal, give them a try too.

I would say about 200.00 as well. We used to go almost weekly when my husband worked for one company. We enjoyed it, but now we have a local place that fixes their steaks very similar and we like to do local!

Don't feel bad, it's a treat. Heck I have no cell phone we don't do cable, Starbucks maybe three times a year, but a nice dinner....yeah I splurge.

Heck we spent over 500 eating at a chefs table at one place, the memory is priceless. The food was amazing and I want to go again!!!

Sorry Pix2day- your photos are nice but no better than mine; and I'm a MWAC. Everyone calls themselves a photographer these days. I also take many, many photos for people and various organizations. Last time I checked, still a MWAC.
I like nice dinners and nice lenses. No guilt here. Throwing money into our crappy economy is ALWAYS a good idea. Restaurants hire many people and I like to help them stay employed. When I look around a restaurant I see many faces- faces of servers, chefs, hostesses, owners, all of whom I am helping to stay employed. Not to mention the people who raise, grow the food....
Jonna enjoy your very fine meal- what a great idea. And thank you for supporting our economy. I have many friends in the restaurant business and it's been rough. Glad to hear of people going out more again.

Enjoy your special meal together and don't feel guilty for one minute. You don't sound like a frivolous person at all and splurging now and then keeps life fun!
And I agree with the poster that said putting money into our economy is a good thing if you can afford it. It makes me feel great to spend money in a bustling busy upscale restaurant. Thank goodness they are in business.

Jonna we also live very close to Greensburg. Obviously not for a holiday gift like RCS, but if you'd like an EXCELLENT meal that's way above the normal chain restaurants, try the new Cenacola in North Huntingdon. The food is AMAZING, the service is awesome and the atmosphere is homey yet you feel special. It is classical, authentic Italian, but not like anything else you can get in the local area. They're getting rave reviews in several Pittsburgh food magazines/blogs, etc. Best place for a moderate (pricier than most local eateries but not in the same bracket as high end places) priced meal yet a cut way above in taste and experience. They are BYOB
