No LSS's even in Chicago

Doesn't that blow your mind with how big the city is? ... Is it because the rent is so high?

There's a scrapbook store in Antioch, Ill called Hannahs. I need to call and see if they'll now carry a couple of lines they usually don't. They have some great talent at Hannahs, as they do a lot of gorgeous page kits, etc. But a lot of the lines they carry are not my style.

Oh my. I thought when reading the title it meant that just another store was closing not the entire chain. Wow. I'm honestly shocked. I worked at A's within the first few years of the original store opening for Christmas. I worked at several locations for Scrapfest. When I became an teacher for another store I bought product from the Roseville store. Although Apple Valley was the first branch, my home branch and ultimately the branch I loved to visit and talk with employeee, Roseville was my second favorite. I haven't lived in MN for over 4 yrs and often miss the store because of finding good deals in the hot spot section. But I miss the employeess. I miss the feeling of going in just to talk about sbing stuff. I really hate that the store is closing because I know from living somewhere without wn A's store around, your selection is often not that greatest for products. To some it's just another store closing but to me its where I started being Tracy the scrapbooker who teaches. I miss it, and wish everyone at all the stores the best of luck.

I was in my local Archivers today. The employees were so sad. I'm going to miss that store so much. I went in for adhesive but took my time and walked around one last time before the crowds come in for clearance sales.

These stores DO kill the LSS.

I never thought I'd be a victim to it and I am. A big box opened in an area that doesn't have an LSS and required a 20-40 minute drive to me and now those customers have not been in since summer and my monthly sales have dropped at least 20-25%. It's very sad and breaks my heart. That's a big number to lose and the sales pattern is very specific to their opening and the sales slowing down.

Maybe there will be a resurgence of LSS' in areas affected by the Archivers closing. I also hope they've been legit with their suppliers....

My friends and I would go to the Atlanta Archiver's in Marietta or Buford even though it was a long drive. Scrapbooking has really hit a real low and we have no where to go to. We don't have any SBS near us either. Except for the big stores that don't really carry much. This was it for us.

So sad.....

Have one in Novi fairly close. Was not a favorite of mine...thought the prices were high and the employees not so friendly.

I wont miss them

I am another Canadian who looked forward to shopping at A's on my biannual jaunt to the US... Loved how bright and appealing A's were, and having all the thickers and letter stickers like Jillibean available! Sad

Was so bummed to read the announcement. I loved going to my local Archivers. The selection was so much better than what Ms or HL has to offer and the staff super friendly.

Expected it to close, but was hoping it wouldn't. I call my hubby after I saw the email and told him we would be making trips to the other side of town at least a couple of time before they close. I didn't go but a few times a year....1 hour in traffic in Houston is just not my thing.

Sad day....I will miss Archiver's so much....still miss Recollections in Dallas.....guess we just never forget our favorite stores...

I totally agree... Denver had a ton of stores to choose from. A's opened up and I would say 1/2 the stores closed within a year of them opening, especially ones that were within five miles of each other. There is not a single store left in Denver (as far as I know)... I guess there is a small one still in Parker, but the selection was next to nothing. Sad day though.

a place to make new friends, and catch up with old ones. I will miss the employees, and the great products.

My closest A's is an hour away in Fairlawn (Ohio) which is also where my company's home office is. I was going to stop at A's in a couple of weeks when I was in Fairlawn for a meeting, but it looks like I might be making my trip just a little sooner. So sad to see them close as I really love the store even if I only got to go a few times a year.

So very sad! Being from MN, I had my pick of several I have visited, but most of all will miss having a great place to get together and crop that is centrally located... Several of us Peas met there almost monthly for the last year...

Just a sad day.

I was very sad to receive this email today. There are no local scrapbook stores left in the Cincinnati area at all to my knowledge. (besides Michaels/Hobby Lobby and they aren't the same) I recently began scrapping again after a break and my friend and I attended a scrap mania last month. We made a pact to attend once a month. I guess we need to come up with a plan B. Online shopping is nice, but I love to touch and see product in person. The creativity I felt while being in the store and knowledge of the employees will be hard to match. So very sad.

Aside from my agreement with pretty much everything that's been said, it may also have an impact on some of our favorite designers and manufacturers. Many of them are still small businesses and don't sell to the other big box stores. They did however sell in large volume to Archivers. They can't survive selling only to the much lower volume LSS. The closes LSS to me, 3 hours away stopped selling Webster's Pages. Their regular clientele just didn't buy it in enough volume and frequency to allow the owner to make new and regular product purchases. That hurts the customers, the owner and the manufacturer, but I understand. Particularly with paper, the profit margin is sooooo low that you have to sell enormous volumes of paper or price it higher to make any money. Then they deal with the companies that almost force a "non-compete" clause in order to carry their product. It makes it very hard for small business to survive, much less thrive.

It is very sad news about Archiver's closing. To the Pea who is in Cincinnati - there is one LSS left that I know of. It is Scraps in Anderson Township - 513-474-6611. I know they have crops and classes. They have a Facebook page if you are interested.

I agree it is sad. I visit the one at Easton fairly regularly and it's about 45 minutes away. All we have where I live are a Michael's and Hobby Lobby. And our Michael's is closing at the end of January.

I wish this was just a bad dream...

I really love the Raleigh NC store.
The employees there have always been so helpful.
I am going to miss them terribly. Traveling there for the day has always been my guilty pleasure. It has been so much fun.

They may be going out of business but let me say that they have always done scrapbooking right. I have always compared them to the Pottery Barn of scrapbooking. Top Notch.

I'm angry that they ran all our LSS's out of business and now they are closing too. Still, I was happy to have A's after all the LSS's folded and shopped there often. Such a bummer.

It really is just survival of the fittest. We had no Archiver's here and still 4 LSS's closed down a few years ago.

I'm closest to the Mason store in Cincinnati. It takes me about 35 minutes to get there. I can't go that often, but when I did, I always got a lot of stuff. Lol
I'm going to try to go tomorrow morning if the roads are ok.
I need to go one last time.
I will miss that store. Great store and nice employees.
Such sad news.

I think social media & blogs have hurt the scrapbooking industry as much as online shopping. The younger generations just don't do paper scrapbooking. I'm retired & I barely have time to scrap anymore! That being said, maybe A's closing will help the CKC's. They might become more of a major event & a place to see product. Although one has to wonder how many companies will make it thru all this! Hope the big box stores will add new lines but I'm not holding my breath!

I am 10 minutes from the closest one and have several others not too far away. I am so sad. I love to stop by and be able to get a few new pieces of paper or embelishments whenever I want. I also met other mn peas there to scrapbook. It will be hard not to see products in person. Closest lss is going to be about 40 minutes away. not terrible but I cant just run there for a couple of things once a week.

It might be Stamping Buddies which is at 4343 E Galbraith Rd - They have a web site. They are more of a stamping store but they do carry some scrap supplies too. I think they opened about two years ago. (just fyi - they are closed on Sundays)

I was so sad to read the email, but saw it coming too. The worst is A's is the ONLY place in my town that does crops. Where will I go when I want to get away from the kids!

I read the email to my DH and Daughter and said how sad I was. My daughter replied, "What?, How did you not keep them in business?"

I don't get to go to the one in Katy, TX too much. It is 40 miles one way and with the traffic and highway construction on my side of town, it is more than an hour drive.

My mother and I will be going there tomorrow.
