As always, I want to thank Sandy (colourful) for sending me her SOF 2008 Word document that showed me how to put together these master threads. I do keep changing the original document so if you see errors here, please let me know. If you want to thank someone for the organization, track down Sandy!

Welcome to Winterfest 2014!

This year, Winterfest will begin Saturday, February 8, and continue through Monday, February 17. That will give working Peas two full weekends to play. After that, Hangover Week Challenges will begin on Tuesday, February 18, and continue through Monday, February 24, for those who just did not get enough during Winterfest (WF13).

If you're new to our board, here are links to our previous events so you can get an idea of what to expect. Unfortunately, the links in the oldest threads are no longer operable, but you can still see the Master Threads and get ideas. They are a part of our history so I'm including them.

For a way to see some of those old threads, check out the third post on the How-To & Trouble-Shooting Thread.

DETAILS ABOUT HOW OUR EVENTS WORK

1. Opening Day is Saturday, February 8. On Thursday and Friday, February 6 and 7, hosts and hostesses will post their challenge discussion threads and blog posts giving the details for participating in their challenges. Even if the host has indicated a theme beforehand, be sure to check the challenge thread and blog for complete instructions. Don't start early! Wait for the last-minute directions. This Master Thread will have links to both the discussion threads AND blog posts.

2. Upload your work to the stamping gallery. If you are new to posting, see the How-To & Trouble-Shooting Thread for instructions.

3. Be sure to check the correct boxes under Member Challenges when you post. If you do this, your piece is automatically linked to the blog post.

4. Do not link to projects completed previously; we want to see your new creations!

5. A single project may apply to multiple challenges unless the host says otherwise in his/her instructions.

6. Throughout the week, keep an eye on the stamping board for chatty threads, games, and drive-by challenges (some with RAK's) that will appear during Winterfest 2014!

7. You can start uploading projects once Two Peas has the check boxes available in the Member Challenges section. Two Peas is located in the CT Zone so the check boxes will open and close according to that time zone. (When you post to the gallery, look for that link and see if Winterfest 2014 (WF14) items are listed. If not, you're too early.)

8. Ask questions! If you aren't sure how to do something, check out the How To & Trouble-Shooting Thread for information. That's where we put all the how-to stuff so you would not have to wade through it on your way to the list of challenges!

Click on the arrow to the right of the Reply button at the top right or bottom right of the thread; then select Watch this Thread to add it to your watch list. After that, you'll be able to access it quickly by clicking on My Watch List in the sidebar to the left of your screen.

**CHALLENGES**

Hosts and Hostesses: I will post your challenge here as I find out about them. Let me know if I should add or delete your name. If you have a theme in mind or supplies and tools people will need to participate in your challenge, let me know and I'll add them to this list. You can leave a message on this thread. Remember you don't have to offer a RAK in order to host a challenge.

Please begin your Challenge Blog early in the week before Opening Day so that Camille can link it to the badges; just don't put in any details until Thursday or Friday. To begin the Challenge Blog, all you need to input are the opening and closing dates on the calendar that pops up when you click on Challenge as the type of blog post. You can state that details will follow. No one is going to look at your blog until I put the link on the Master Thread, and I won't do that until Thursday or Friday.

Please post your Discussion Thread on the Thursday or Friday before Opening Day so I will have time to link it to the Master Thread. Please don't post your Discussion Threads early unless you need to. People will see them, and it gets a bit tiresome clicking on Discussion Threads when the details won't be there until later in the week.

I will link up your discussion threads and blogs under the Challenges (below) beginning on Thursday.

It's never too late to post a challenge. If you decide you'd like to post one for just a day or two or half-way through the week, go ahead and post it. Leave a message on this thread with a link if you can, and I'll add it to the list as soon as I see it.

Once you've begun your challenge blog, please Pea-mail our new contact person, Camille Terranova, and give her a big welcome and a link to your challenge blog so she can link the WF14 badge to it. If you don't do this, participants in your challenge will not earn a badge. We need to give Camille links to our challenge blogs before she leaves work on Friday (CDT) or they won't be linked to the badges until she gets back on Monday.

Daniel has a thread that I think you'll find interesting and informative: Hosting Challenges: Tips & Tricks

Participants: Be sure to check the Challenge Discussion Threads and Blogs for complete details on each challenge. Also, when you participate in a challenge, leave a message on the Challenge Discussion Thread with a link to your gallery post so that the challenge thread goes back to the top of the board. It's good to keep the challenge threads rotating on the board. Let's keep them on page 1!

Daniel has started a thread with tips for 1st-time participants: Advice for First-Time Party Goers

During Winterfest 2013, Christinmay followed up on the cell-phone vs badge problem with the Service Center. Matt let her know that if you upload to the gallery using the iPhone app, you will not earn badges, and your entry will not show up on the Challenge Blogs. If you'd like to do those two things, you'll need to upload from the website. I don't know if that has changed.

This is where I normally link Anne's Famous Cheatsheet, but Anne won't be able to take an active role in this event. There's a rumor that someone else just might create one for us. Anne, we miss you!

Ah, here it is: CaribbeanGirl's CheatSheet!

11 challenges so far? WOW! Who'll make it a dozen?

LOL on Cindi (Iring) naming her WF challenge. Can't wait to see what she has planned for that. I love masking, 'kemosabe'!

I have the name for my challenge. "Nothing To Sneeze At".

Glad to hear we have Camille on staff @ 2Ps working with us StamPeas.

Thanks for taking on the job of 'party organizer' once again, Dar! I still say you are our primere Party 'Girl'!

Just a couple of weeks before the party starts. Looks like we already have lots of activities (challenges & games), but always room for more.

With the recent spate of Swap/Challenges--SND, KIAE & Monthly Tag--lots of us have our work cut out for us in February. Oughta help keep us warm with all the exercise!

The theme for my challenge will be "Mixed Media." I do have a tentative supply list, should I post it here also?

Yes, please do post any special supplies that we might need. That would be very helpful!

I have not decided my challenge yet, but I have narrowed it down. I am always so nervous about doing something very similar to someone else (I know, I know, it isn't the end of the world, but variety is also nice...)

Heidi, thanks for answering questions!

Stacy, I added your title to the original post, but I'd suggest that you chose a title that doesn't spell out a technique or method. If you stick with Mixed Media, some Peas will click on the challenge box if they have any hint of MM in their projects without having looked at your challenge or followed any of your requirements. This is an on-going problem. If you check out Stamptoberfest 2013 (link in the original post), you can get an idea of how we usually name our challenges. It's fun to think of something that fits but doesn't give the project away.

Of course, you can leave as is. Cindi's is pretty much what it says it is, but it isn't too likely that non-participants will be masking the rubber on their projects. lol.

I love using mixed media so I'm really looking forward to your challenge. Like Heidi said, you can list any supplies needed that you don't think a stamper would normally have on hand. I'll post the list with your challenge on the original post.

So glad you're playing!

Thank you Daria for organizing all of this!

I'm so looking forward to the challenges this year!

Stacy, I'm intrigued by mixed media! Can't wait to hear about your challenge.

Heidi, I'm the same way! I have a challenge narrowed down, I think! Just need to pick a name for it. No special supplies will be needed for mine. I also have a fun question game I will start

My challenge is going to fun & messy... I just need to come up with a catchy name.

I'd love for you all to be resourceful and use products & items you have on hand, but here's a list of suggested supplies for my challenge. You do not need all of them, my challenge calls for you to choose at least 3.

Dye, pigment, VersaMark, or chalk ink

Acrylic paint

Watercolors (traditional, H2O’s, or Gelatos)

Gesso, Mod Podge, or Gel Medium

Modeling paste, Embossing paste, or some other texture medium

Embossing powder

Ribbon, twine, fibers

Buttons, eyelets, brads, or beads

Paper, chipboard, Vellum

Glitter or Fun Flock

Cork, Metal, Aluminum

Plastic, Acetate,

Or choose something fun that isn’t mentioned above

WF14 is coming...get ready!

One of the fabulous things about 2P stampers is the high level of creativity here! We explore and discover new ways of doing things all the time and create many fantastic pieces!

If you have never experienced a 2P stamping event, you need to be clearing your calendar, organizing your craft room so at least you can find things and preparing meals ahead of time for the family. This is fair warning-You are going to have so much fun you will find little time for other things during the event!

LOL, Jan. I don't do windows. I think most folks will enjoy what I have planned.

For those who are 'new' to our parties, I do urge you to check out the links Daria has provided. Although (like several others) I've attended & hosted since we began having these online get-togethers, I like to review previous years, too. It's always fun to see how much variety there is. And there's no need to reinvent the wheel for a challenge. Even with overlap &/or similarities, no two hosts offer identical challenges.

Just a bit more than a week 'til WF14!

Just finished making the sample for my challenge & need to get it photo'd so I can upload it when I write my Blog & Challenge Thread.

I kept the sample pretty 'simple'--at least as 'simple' as I'm willing to go.

Looking forward to seeing what all the other challenge hosts have in store for us this time. I'm already intrigued by some from either the title &/or the host.

Anne, I'm so glad you are hosting after all. I linked up your discussion thread and gallery post as an example, but I won't hook up the others until Thursday and Friday February 6th and 7th.

Daniel, that's a good idea to start the preliminary blog early. For our last event, we just posted them early in the week before Opening Day, and that worked fine, but lately the board has been sooooo slow that maybe it's good to get them done ahead of time. I won't link them up until closer to the event. On the other hand, it's getting old having to wait minutes instead of seconds for things to be submitted.

Hosts, there are directions for posting your preliminary blog in the original post in the section directed to Hosts & Hostesses. Hopefully, Camille won't be upset at getting the links spaced out over time. She might even like it that way.

LOL, GC! Your challenge title takes me back to a song popular in the early 60s. We knew it as the 'coloring book' song. Nope! Don't think it says 'too much'. Colour me Happy to see so many challenges for WF14!

Just a reminder to those who are viewing the 'titles' or blogs prior to Party Day (2/8). As Daria says, "don't assume". Challenge Blogs may get edited between now & then.

'Course it's fine if anyone wants to start a piece for a challenge in advance, but you may have to adapt it to meet the challenge, 'Sok! 'Practice' is a good thing, eh?!

Good title, Joanne. I'm curious.

I ditto what Daniel said about starting early. I'm glad people are getting excited about the challenges.

I had one in mind, but it turned out to be a tutorial by Anna-Karin. Since she's active on this board, I'll leave it for her to use when she has time to play. I'm still exploring my options.

I'm a little confused about the blog post portion of the challenge.

Do I need to use TP's blog format and submit the information about my challenge there?

Yes, Stacy. You'll use your blog here at Two Peas. Scroll up to the original post, and you'll find directions under the heading "Hosts & Hostesses." You'll find that directly under the red heading "Challenges."

If you have a problem, ask away. It's really easy, but I remember there was a lot of confusion the first time or two we used the blogs.

Here's the link to my challenge blog:
WF14 In a Manner of Speaking

No special materials needed, I think anyone can do this one with supplies they've got!

Hello everyone! I have had such a hard time making up my mind, but I think I will have to skip hosting a challenge this Winterfest. It will be the first time in many years that I am not hosting

We are going to be visiting my family for the whole Winterfest time, and I don't think I would have enough time to take care of my challenge (commenting etc). I will try to check in and see what everyone is doing and I am SO sorry to be missing Winterfest.

Anna-Karin, we'll miss you. Enjoy your time with your family. They must be so excited that you and Anton are visiting.

For the next event, I know just which challenge I'd like you to offer. I'll keep it a secret for now. I was thinking of offering it myself, but when I double-checked the tutorial, I realized it was yours. You do such fabulous work.

Have fun on your trip.

I'm so glad I managed to come out of my crafting hibernation in time for Winterfest.

Daria, I've got 2 challenges in mind. The first is called "To All the Techniques I've Loved Before." (Technique Love for short). And the second is going to be called Embellish This.

And am I the only one who looked at Stacy's suggested supply list and realized that they have just about everything on her list. I think it is a sign that I have too many craft supplies.

Should I post the details for my challenge on my discussion thread today or wait to update it with that info on Sat?

Sarah, you made it! I'm so happy t see you on the board! I'll add your challenges to the list. Be sure to get your challenge blogs started today and send the links to Camille. She won't be working over the weekend so you need to send her a link by Friday morning at the latest. You can start your blog and just say "Details to Follow."

Reminder:

Use the URL for your challenge, not for the opening page of the blog. If you are in the right place, you'll see "You are viewing a single post. Click here to visit ___'s Blog." right above the box with your message. If you don't see that message, then click on the title of your challenge to take you to that page.

Yes, Stacy you can post anything you want now--Discussion Thread and details on your blog if you're ready.

Daria

ETA: Sarah, I see you're way ahead of me. I added your blog challenges to the original thread. And Stacy, I saw linked up your discussion thread too.
