I've decided I want to get an Expedit but want to avoid shipping if I can. I'll be in MN in January and thought I might be able to bring it back with me.

Does anyone know how big the box(s) are? I have a Ford Explorer and was hoping it would fit.

So, if you bought at a store - how did you get it home?

We took it home in a dodge caravan with the back seats down and between the 2 middle row seats. If you can put seats down then it should work.

I don't think you'll have a problem. We drove mine back from Chicago in my PT Cruiser.

Depends on the size you choose (the 5x5, for example, is multiple boxes) and how many you purchase. I brought a 5x5 home in my Flex, but I don't think I could have purchased two 5x5s at the same time. Like others said, it fit with the longest boxes running up the middle, with the back and middle row seats folded down.

If you go on the Ikea website, they list the package dimensions. Just check there and you'll be all set!

You know the box dimensions are on their website. I checked it all out before I made the drive to pick up mine. just scroll down to the dimensions on that specific product and then go out to car and measure.

I have a question, too. What fabric inserts fit in it? I'd like to use the fabric kind. Cheap is good.

Um... I fit my 5x5 in a tiny Volkswagen, so I reckon you're safe in an explorer. Though it will probably be less entertaining for the people parked next to you in the car park when you pack it into the car.

Oh Shimelle, picturing that made me chuckle.

I fit mine in my vehicle fine, but I have a mini van.

Mine fit in a Ford Exp also, along with all the other stuff I bought. And the 2 packs of cinnamon rolls my family expects after a trip to Ikea

I got fabric bins from T (their Itso line) that fit perfectly in the Expedit

I got two 2x2s and two 2x4s into a Toyota Matrix in one trip & two 5x5s on another, so you should be good to go! But I agree with those who have posted that you can get the packaging dimensions from their website & pack for your trip accordingly.

Thanks everyone! If you can fit into Camry's and VW's looks like I'm going to be set! Now I can't wait to get up there!

I took my 4x4 AND the attached desk home in my Chrylser sebring. We had to take all of the pieces out of the boxes to do it, but it worked!

My DH took them in the back of his mustang convertible with the top down. It must of looked hilarious going down the freeway. If you measure, make sure you measue from the narrowest points. We sometimes have trouble with boxes in our Jeep Grand Cherokee, because the wheel wells cut into the space of the back.

I fit two 2x4's a 4x4, two workstation desks, boxes, drawers, doors, and other assorted goodies in my Volvo Cross Country station wagon (with the back seats down and a prayer we wouldn't be crushed in a rear-end accident). All of it fit and while we thought the shocks may be blown, they were fine. I daresay your explorer is bigger than my wagon, so you should be just fine!

Have fun!

The Ikea Drona box is fabric and fits the Expedit perfectly. However, it only comes in green, pink and black right now. They do seem to change to colors quite a bit. The other bonus is they are only $5.00. I also have the Target Itso boxes and they have much more fun colors but I feel they are just a bit too short for the Expedit. If you don't mind losing about two inches of space then they work great too, but they are twice the price of the Drona box. If you are buying a lot off them it can really add up.

I bought the expedite and drive a rodeo.
You should be fine if you can put on side of your back seat down

You don't want to have one shipped!! As I understand previous posts the shipping may be more then the cost of the Expedit.

I got my 4x4 in a small Toyota. We ended up taking the box off and putting the pieces in individually and that made it quite easy. Shimelle I can totally relate. You win with the 5x5 in a VW!

A 12x12 cardboard box will fit in one square of the Expedit. I just covered the front of the box that would show on the Expedit and voila - a cheap alternative to bins and baskets. It hides a lot and you can color coordinate with your choice of paper There is also about a 3" gap that you can use to add a framed photo or some other decorative element like this:

We put the 2x4 in a Toyota Corolla. Next to the carseat. Not to mention the easel we bought, and the other random items. Next time, I'm leaving the stroller at home.

It's surprising what we all can fit in our cars when we are motivated!

I got my 4x4 into our little Holden commodore. All by myself. That part I don't recommend, get someone to come with you. They come in two packages and one while one is fine the other is surprisingly heavy!

For me it was the other way around. We went thinking we would put everything in our traverse but ended up shipping most of it home. We went on a 2 week holiday and so many of our family and friends had given us huge gifts for Christmas that I no longer felt like we had enough room to bring everything,

I got three 2x2 and one 2x4 and two 4x4 as well as 2 desks, legs or the desks and several inserts, drawers and doors for it. We also purchased Four glass cabinets for my hubby's collections. It was so much I did it feel safe driving 12 hrs home with it all.....so $300 of shipping it was....lol

You should be fine as long as you don't go as crazy as I did.....

I love the smell of card stock in the morning.....

The Movie poster that is my avatar is very special cause my husband is in it and it won best film at the Canadian Film Festival in 2012. See it......It's super funny.

I fit it in the back of a Camry--just barely, with the back seats down. Because it was so heavy, I actually opened the box in the car and pulled it out piece by piece, LOL.

I go to IKEA very rarely because the nearest one is 4 hours away. When we do, I drive a full sized truck. I'd easily drop a thousand dollars every time we go and my truck would be so weighed down that it looked like a low-rider. I haven't been to IKEA for a year or so. We maybe go like every other year or so.
