So my Daughter and I went to 5 stores tonight to pick up any leftover Hostess items, and it was sad. I ended up buying the last box of Suzy Q's, and a box of Zingers. I really never buy these things, but it does remind me of my child hood. So, seeing the empty shelves I decided to scrap about it. I took pics of my Daughter and the empty shelves. I think it will be a cute layout. It's weird to think Hostess won't be around. It's like they've always been there, ya know. Anyway, just thought I would share.

I feel your pain! I was thinking about doing a layout about the cupcakes. They have been my special treat since I was little. It will be sad when I can't have them anymore |

UNLESS my friend does find some of the Orange Hostess Cupcakes left when she heads to Alamogordo tomorrow, I won't even get one last cupcake. There are no Hostess products in this little town. The orange cupcakes are the only ones I really like and for the last 22 years, it has either been impossible to find them in my state (when I lived in Colorado AND the first 3 years I lived in New Mexico) or they aren't close by.
For the last 9 years, SOMETIMES I've been able to find them in Alamogordo and we don't go there very often. But years ago, I WAS able to buy a orange cupcake holder! In a state that didn't even HAVE orange cupcakes! I store cupcake cups in it. I guess I'll have my little plastic cupcake holder to remember them by.
I've been looking again for a copycat recipe for the icing, don't have a problem duplicating the rest. |

I also bought a few boxes of each of my hubby's childhood favorites yesterday. As I was walking to the checkout with 10 boxes of snack cakes, I thought, "I'll have to save some packaging to do a scrapbook page!".
So sad to see them go, but we still have Little Debbie and maybe Tasty Cakes will finally make their way up to the Northeast. |

There is a Hostess/Wonder Bread factory about two miles from my house. I'm going to miss smelling the baking bread.
I'm going to hit up a Quik Trip today and see if there are any orange cupcakes left. Those were my favorite. |

I bought a box of chocolate chip muffins for DS this morning and a box of the cupcakes for me. I wish I could have gotten Twinkies and Devil Dogs too, but it just wasn't in the budget. I would love for Hostess to be bought out by another company like Kellog's bought Pringles. |

Man I am aging myself here but 50 years ago (aaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrggggggghhh), Hostess put in a bakery one street over from me. We lived in a neighborhood of a lot of kids.....(40 kids for just a half a block). When the bakery went in lots of kids tried to bribe, cajole, and whine for more allowance to go to the bakery more than once a week. It was love in a package and twinkie was my friend. I will miss them but my butt, thighs, and waist won't! |

I was hoping to find a box of Ding Dongs to throw in the freezer today, but no luck anywhere.
NativeNewYorker, I haven't seen a Devil Dog since I left Long Island in 1974. They were my favorite as a kid. |

no Twinkies or Ding Dongs to be found, but did find the mini powered and chocolate covered donuts. Think I might have to take a pic of them before I open them up! |

Another company has already bought the rights and recipe for the Twinkies. So those at least will live on. |

We got the last two boxes of Twinkies in our town. I took pics of my kids enjoying their last taste of Twinkies for our scrapbooks. Makes me so very sad. We didnt eat them all the time, but I feel like I'm losing a huge part of my childhood I really hope that heir products will be bought out by others and still be around. |

I went to Walmart as soon as I found out they had indeed closed and picked up a bunch of things. We never eat them except for the powdered sugar donettes once every year or so. I have more fond memories of them I ate a few yesterday and I didn't feel so well afterwards LOL. I took a picture of all the goodies and then a picture of DS trying his first twinkie it was fun. Trying to figure out how to scrap it. |

That's cool! Although i haven't eaten a Twinkie in years, they were my favorite as a kid, with Ho-Ho's a close second! (loved to unroll them to eat!) |

It's definitely the end of an era.
I rarely ever eat that kind of stuff now, but it was a huge treat when I was a kid (with a very health conscious mom who allowed very little junk food in our house).
I may try and find a package of the ones I liked for one last hoorah and a package of. Snowballs for my BF since she loved those as a kid. |

I wanted to do a LO of them also! I haven't had any in years--but my Mom used to always get the snoballs in the different colors for holidays and then my sister and I would get one in our lunchbox that day.
Good idea snapping a picture of the empty shelves! I may have to go do that. What really makes me mad--is people who just scooped them all up to go sell on EBAY! If you were snagging them to have at home to remember enjoy--okay--but leave some for the rest. As usual, greed wins out. |

I knew Twinkies would be bought out but I know MY favorite won't because most of the Hostess bakeries didn't make the orange cupcakes.
My neighbor spent Saturday in the town 45 miles away that DID have Hostess products and she said everything was cleaned out... she was going to see IF she could get a cupcake or two for me. |

I hit 4 convenience stores last night and was able to find everything but a damn twinkie. I got the orange and chocolate cupcakes, ding dongs, ho hos, honey buns, cinammon buns, donnettes in chocolate and powdered, and zingers. I found ONE twinkie at a Fiesta Mart but it was chocolate filled.
I did take pics of the wiped out shelves and drove by our Wonderbread Hostess factory and got some pics. Will be making a layout about how my Gramma used to take me to their bakery store. She's always get me the orange cupcakes and the mini loaf of bread they gave visitors. |

I submitted a thread about it... I took a pic of the display in the grocery store on Saturday. I didn't eat the stuff, but I have the memories "Wonder helps build strong bodies twelve ways" and also when my kids and I were living with my mom, she would often bring home the sweet 16 donuts as a treat for them. I think I will ask them to write their memories to put in the book (they are now 41 and 44)...
