I have lots of old negatives from back when we used regular film cameras, so for Christmas DH got me a negative scanner. I believe it is this one:
Negative scanner
I have not opened it yet and just wondered if anyone has used this or something similar and how do you like it?
Thanks!

I have an Ion scanner but not an audio one. I like it a lot. It's very easy to use, the resolution is high enough to make reprints. The photos & negatives I scanned were old so they can use some photoshop help but other than that I am happy with it.

I think my all in one printer has a negative scanning attachment but I haven't tried it. Think I will

I bought my husband one for Christmas from Craigs List a couple of years ago - he is slowly getting all those old negatives and photos scanned and in the computer. It generally seems to work great! |

I had one (not the one you linked) and hated the quality of the scans. I finally gave up (it really did take FOREVER to do) and have started sending my negatives to ScanCafe. I've been very pleased with the results. |

I have an really old HP one. It works in a pinch to get a negative I need digitized but I honestly can say I'd rather pay someone to do them for me if I wanted to do all my negatives.

Just yesterday I found an attachment that goes onto my scanner to do negatives. I would be interested if anybody knows how quick, easy or worthwhile they are.
My husband was going to buy me one of those portble ones at Christmas but I told him to wait.
Zonefan, if you try yours can you please come back and update?
Thanks!

I've seen good reviews for this one:
Wolverine scanner
I'm too much of a chicken to pull the trigger and buy it for some reason!
I would like to know which one you buy.
I've used ScanCafe before and like them a lot as well. It did take forever to get the scans back, but that didn't bother me too much.

I've been wanting to get one too.
DH thinks we can do it on our regular printer/scanner, but I thought I read somewhere that actual negative scanners are better b/c a negative isn't opaque like paper? Has anyone else heard that? I suppose I should break out some old negatives and just try it! And then I guess the scanner or computer is smart enough to invert them (from negative to a regular image)? |

Lilyloams, I have that exact same scanner. It has been put thru the test today as I am getting back into my Genealogy and I have a ton of old prints I'm scanning onto a card. I LOVE the way this one works. My pictures are color and b/w and they come out beautifully !! Enjoy your ION !
I just went back and looked at the price.. WOW! I got mine from a garage sale FB page and paid $30 for it.. Still in the plastic and in the box.. Brand NEW.. I think I got a bargain!

My mom was a mad cutter of cutting people out of pics when she was furious with them. So after she died we found alot of the old negatives. So I priced them out to get printed. I was told like $1 or $2 a negative. I had about 75+ so that option was out. But one day at a yard sale dh spoted a negative scanner for $5. so we grabbed it and if it worked great if not we got a newer scanner. Well we messed with it for awhile. And well it worked great and I was able to scan every single negative and we even found one of dh's grandparents that we got somehow and forgot about it. And so I was able to get prints made for go all 6 of siblings plus me. So it saved us ALOT of money. I say go for it.

Yes,, I have a negative scanner.
No,, I do not use it.
I have a Wolverine one.
It does work, however it is a very slow and tedious process when you have thousands of negatives to scan.
I hook mine up to a tv so I can see the images better. |
