Thanks to all of you enablers, I decided to get the pink ATG for Christmas. I seem to make a lot of mistakes, or at least change my mind when I am scrapping so I usually re-position papers, but I can't do that now with the ATG! The tape sticks so well, that once it's down, that's it! I assume this is the norm? | |

Yep! I watched a youtube video where she used an ATG and to reposition she removed the pp and it got ripped up but when she moved it it got covered back up, didnt bother her a bit.
This is why I stick to tape runners! | |

Check your tape. I have the repositionable. It is stickier than other repositionable tape I have used, but I lightly place it down and don't really press until I am sure.
Also, realize that you really don't need much adhesive at all unless it is heavy. I just put a little on, I don't put adhesive on all 4 sides of a photo or mat. If it's going to be in a page protector, even if it falls off, it stays in the protector. |

If I think I might want to move the item I'm sticking down, I simply dab my finger across the adhesive to make it slightly less sticky. That way I can pick the piece up and reposition, but it still sticks permanently when I am certain. | |

Yep, that's how it works!
When I'm not sure of placement, I put a piece of leftover xyron paper (the waxy piece that you throw away) over the taped piece, and then play around with placement.
The problem is I often don't KNOW I wasn't sure of placement until AFTER I've already fused the papers together. Then it's either time to be happy with the way things are or get busy ripping!
And I don't care. I love that tape.

A trick I use if I *really* need to get a paper up and I'm worried about it ripping: Run some wax floss (for your teeth!) behind the paper and wiggle it through the adhesive. Works pretty well for taking it off without tearing. | |

I used to use those adhesive squares in the corners and along long edges, and even then stuff would sometimes unstick.
With the ATG, I run a little adhesive in the middle and that thing is stuck on tight! SO much faster and easier!
Until I try to move something.

If you but the "general purpose " ATG tape, it is much more forgiving. I have had to cover up lots of torn mistakes when I use the scrapbooking tape. |

I like that it sticks well but I usually use a lighter adhesive first, applying it to the center only. That lets reposition it and tuck layers under. Then when things are more certain. I gently bend the corners up and put ATG on the layers, working from the bottom up.
Or at least, I do that with cards. I don't want them to fall apart when the recipient gets them. For PL I haven't used a lot of adhesive but I have mostly just done ATG at first because the smaller canvas leaves less room for fiddling. | |

A lot of my friends are like this too I tend to use more adhesive because I hang my layouts on my cubicle wall and hate it when things fall of due to gravity Also when I make cards they go to 30+ people to be signed. Or my cards get signed by the 4-H kids and there are 20 something of them
I used to use mono tape runners but now I love how heavy duty the ATG is - I guess I'm not very gentle to my creations

I was also going to recommend dental floss. I don't use ATG, but a friend does that with other adhesive. I use undu, but I think that's gotten harder to find. |

I used to work for a picture framing wholesaler. In fact a lot of the people that have their ATG guns for a very long time, might have bought it from me. The ATG tape is super strong because picture framers do not want the framed piece falling off for their customers. The product has been around a very very long time. That said, 3M makes a repostionable tape. It is the 928 tape. However, it is a half inch tape and not the quarter inch size that fits the pink ATG guns from Michaels. If you have a yellow gun, or an adapter for the red or pink gun then you ar egood to go. It should be about the same price as they usual tape.

Basically echoing what's been said.
I don't use as much as I would with other tapes. Also, I will set things down, but not "press" them into place until the very end. Rarely have issues pulling things back up, unless I'm using very thin paper.
I just use the regular refill, not the gold and not the repositionable. |

Use a scraper like Pampered Chef or the CM multipurpose tool and slide it between the two pieces of paper to separate them. You can't just peel up the top piece of paper or it will tear. |

Like you, at first I didn't like this about my new ATG. But I learned to use less tape. I just tape the four corners and maybe a dab on long sides.
If you watch any Garden Girl videos, you will be shocked at how little tape they use. Shocked! I used to use LOTS. Now that I use less, I can move my taped on pieces and how I do love my ATG now. You'll get used to it and love it too! | |

I my pink ATG. OP, you are right. The adhesive works great. I don't have to worry about things falling off. |

Like others here, I learned to just put a little of it in the middle and then maybe add to edges when done. When I first stared using my pink ATG, I seriously covered ALL along the edges...AND made an X in the middle! Waay too much adhesive! | |

Love that aspect of the ATG. I've spent unfathomable hours reattaching little bits and pieces of papers from my pre-ATG layouts. They were permanent for only a couple of years. I will NEVER USE AD-TECH AGAIN! |

I often don't put adhesive on my pieces until I think I'm sure about placement. Once I have everything "just right" I will snap a photo with my phone camera and then start gluing.
If I'm 75% sure I know where I want everything, I will use less adhesive and keep it away from the edges.
And sometimes I change my mind after I think I'm sure & either have to use UnDu if there's not too many layers, or I just rip it up! If the base paper gets torn, that's just another opportunity for extra photos or embellishment! |

I just had to pull up a bunch of photos I had put down with the ATG today---I was doing a two sided layout and didn't realize the reverse side was upside down! (The direction didn't matter on the side I was working on.) What a pain. I got them all up with just a bit of tearing, and got everything turned around, so it worked out. I love the ATG because the adhesive works so well, but I do try not to press it down until I have everything exactly where I want it! | |

You can also use the spatula that comes with the Cricut accessories to lift up items you have stuck down. Just very careful because that dude is sharp, very sharp.
