I haven't actually scrapped in almost 2 years, I have purchased supplies though. I am in the middle of trying to move all my supplies to one location and I just can't seem to get anything started these days. My family is skiing this weekend and since I can't ski (have an injury I am still nursing) I decided to bring up some pictures from our recent vacation with my snap supplies and BLANK! I just can't seem to get started. How does one start back up after such a long break? Peas to the rescue...

If you're in need of a jumping-off point, I'd suggest viewing the Glitter Girl video series here on 2P's and then using the challenge from the video as your starting point. In addition, she gives great tips!

There is always the CHA challenges too which might give you inspiration.
I just start with my photos. Select some papers that match, a few embellishments that go with the theme. Write a brief journaling. Come up with a title. Then start arranging til I find a pattern I like. Once I start it starts to come together. Starting is the key.

I find videos most helpful to get me started, especially ones where all the design choices/thought process is explained.
I'd start with either Glitter Girl or the Scrap Your Stash series on here. The first has been running for a year, the second only for a few weeks now but both are full of ideas and very inspiring |

I have become a youtube fan & it's really inspiring to watch "process" videos to get me in the mood to work a bit in my studio. |

I've found it helpful to just do a layout kit with instructions, so I don't have to work too hard to come up with ideas, but I'm still crafting. That sometimes gets me in the groove again.

Another idea is to do a 'copy' of a page/style you have done in the past that you like. Sorta like a warmup.

I say you grab a couple photos you love and just jump in. You don't need the latest and greatest supplies, just what you have already and like.

Thanks peas! I have been looking at the gallery and watched a few videos... I guess just starting is going to be the my key to get moving again. It really is sad as I used to teach classes before my life got so crazy with kids and work that my mojo and my love for scrapbooking took a back seat. It is defiantly time for some me time!! We will see what happens tomorrow when I try to get started again.

I'm also returning to making layouts after a few years of just making cards and mini-albums. I'm planning to look over all the layouts I've done and ask myself, "What's a vital part of our life-story that I've never documented?" I really want to start with the story first because as my hero Stacy Julian says, "If you're not careful, you can scrap all your photos and never scrap your story."

I think your putting to much thought into it. I say just sit down with your photos and let the memories roll in before you know it you will know what paper you would like to use or what embellishment you have in your stash tang will be just perfect. You don't have to have the latest and greatest product on the page to make an awesome layout. The layout will be awesome the moment you not down your memories of why you took that photo. Remember it's all about fun and just letting your creative juices flow. When all else fails there is always YouTube and Pinterest! |
