Well, week 2 proved to be quite a challenge. Only a fraction of the number of submissions during week 1 made it into week 2.
In light of this, I decided to pick a theme for week 3 that I feel would be far less challenging for our next round. After all, I don't want to inadvertantly discourage everyone (including myself) from picking up the camera. There will undoubtedly be other challenging themes throughout the year, and I will do my best to spread them apart.
The ground rules...
1. Each week will be assigned a theme.
Themes will be announced each Friday.
2. Post your submission(s) to each week's thread by the following Thursday. (Don't worry if you're late, you can still post.)
3. If you would like CC, please re-post the photo in a new thread.
2013 Challenge, Week 3: CLOSE-UP / FILL THE FRAME (non-macro)
Please note that this is NOT a macro challenge. Many of us do not have a macro lens (myself included). The goal is to simply "fill the frame". |

Yes that is what definately one way to fill the frame.
All of these themes are very much open to interpretation. That is what makes them fun. There are certainly many types of shots that will fit this theme. I can't wait to see what everyone else will post.
Do you still have leaves on the ground this time of year, or was this taken at another point? I'd also like to see it in color. |

Oddly it is much better in monochrome and yep, we sure do still have them laying around. I took this one two days ago. |

That is a great pick for this theme. Another superb example of filling the frame, without the use of macro shooting.
But I think you need to take a new photo each week. That's kinda the point. |

I'm planning on it, don't worry.
Had great light today with my cats but they were pretty uncooperative (shocking!) Might try some inanimate objects instead. |

No problem, I was just playing.
I was gonna try for my kitties too. Great minds think alike.
I think that would make a great ultra close-up.

Jeune- Every time I look at that pic I feel something.. an emotion a memory.. I don't know.. but I really do love it and just wonder is it a set up that you have in your house(decor) or did you set it up just for a pic? I really love it.... A picture is supposed to "evoke a feeling" and this one does for me |

Thanks Jennifer!
It's actually not a set up in my house, I had to move the clock from one spot to another and I placed it on my burnt orange chair which has the yellow throw on it and I stopped what I was doing and grabbed the camera.
I love that old time look of the clock and the bold colors, glad you liked it too.
Meanwhile, here's my kitty filling up the frame

Meg, your kitty has the most gorgeous eyes and markings. Very nice capture.
I hate to sound like I'm repeating myself, but your daughter has beautiful eyes too ! You've really done a great job with this theme.
Here is one of my sweet kitties too. Meet Shadow

I took this during the week but due to that darned flu invading the house (first hubby, then me) I didn't get around to posting it till now. Too late for the real challenge but thought I'd put it in the gallery anyway if anyone wants to look. Might not be the greatest photo but does give a feel of the weather here last week.

gardencat, thanks for posting. It's perfectly fine to post late too, there is no "official" deadline. I am often late myself, and I started the challenge.
That's a lot of snow. Makes me glad we don't have that much here, just a small flurry over the weekend. The winter is still young though, we could (and probably will) get a lot more.
I have two more photos I took for this week's theme, just wanted to post them before moving on to the next one.
This one was just for fun ...

cool straws! love the key holder. Funny(well, to me at least). My husband and I have gone without a proper keyholder since we've been married because as hard as we look we cannot find one that we absolutely love (ok, maybe it's mostly me, he doesn't really care). My FIL made us one... it does the job but it's not very pretty so I've hung it in a dark corner LOL. |

I think this is a good submission and I applaud you for trying. Really the biggest issue that jumps out at me is the text on the spool at the top. It is very prominent and the first thing my eye is drawn to when I open your post.
I think you've picked a fun subject matter. Who doesn't love ribbon. |

Superscrapilious you need to size them before you upload them to photobucket. I think 600 pixels on the longest side is what works well here. My doggy picture is 500 px but it could easily have been bigger. I think the gumball picture is about 600 pixels. |

Jo Ann - I cannot say it enough ... better late than never. I am glad being "late" doesn't deter anyone from keeping these challenges going.
What a cutie pie she is, so glad you posted this shot. My dog is nowhere near "cute". I'm pretty sure my cats thought I was nuts too. In fact he was so annoyed with me when I was taking his close-up that he eventually just got up and left the room. Done. |
