Has anyone ever done a shutterfly photo book?
I just have a few general questions...
Can you create your own pages in say PSE or SBC+ and then
upload them to shutterfly to be put in a bound book??
also...can anyone give any comments on the quality of the book?

I have done quite a few shutterfly books, I have never had a problem with the quality or service there.
You can for sure do your own Los, then upload to shutter fly. Just select the full page photo spread and drop your layout on the page. You want to leave a little margin around the page that is free from journaling, important elements etc because you can loose a small bit in the binding.

I have only printed one bound book through Shutterfly and it was fine. The service was good and the book quality was okay. But, I have heard several people complain that their Shutterfly books fell apart if handled too often. I've heard Blurb is good, and Persnickity Prints, although I have no first-hand experience. I've done photobooks through Shutterfly, Blurb, Picaboo, and Apple (Mac only). Best quality was Apple. Worst was Blurb. I've done many through Shutterfly for the last several years, and have been very pleased overall.
As much as I love PersnicketyPrints.com, I have not ordered a photobook from them because the process for creating it was not very user-friendly, even for someone as knowledgeable and determined as I was! |

I've printed books at Shutterfly that are only 20-24 pages. One book that was looked at maybe half a dozen times is coming apart. The rest of the book seems to be okay. As far as print quality, it's pretty good. I do, however, need to print somewhere else to see the difference in quality. A friend of mine had a book from Blurb, and it looked great; however, she had just dropped photos in; not sure if there would be a difference in using layouts for photos. I know that sounds crazy, but you never know.
As far as I know, Shutterfly only takes the jpg format, so I don't think it would matter what program you use. |
