Trying to get into stamping and coloring with Copic Markers. Tried to read about them on "the" website but found it confusing.
Anyone have suggestions for which ones to buy first? Or for a good tutorial website?

Hi,
I am still kind of in the "beginning" stage--not an expert. I use stamps and Copics for cardmaking. I can make what I am coloring look nice, but it probably takes me longer than people who are "good" with Copics. There are no Copic certification classes (or non Copic certification classes) in this area, so I am self taught.
Three books that I have bought that I find useful and refer to are:
Copic Coloring Guide By Colleen Schaan and Marianne Walker
Copic Coloring Guide Level 2: Nature By Colleen Schaan and Marianne Walker
Copic Coloring Guide Level 3: People By Colleen Schaan and Marianne Walker
I just looked and Two Peas is not selling Copic markers. So I guess it is ok if I say that I purchased some of mine in the beginning from Hobby Lobby with their 40% off coupons and have made quite a few purchases from oozak.com
In the beginning I purchased a few that are needed for skin colors and colors that I liked. If you google, you can see how the numbering system works for buying ones that blend. (That's also explained in the first book I mentioned above.)

I'm not a copic user but u have seen lots of good tutorials on YouTube. You could try searching there. Good luck and have fun coloring. |

Yes, there are heaps of good YouTube tutorials.
Also, there are three types : Original, Sketch and Ciao. Most people buy Sketch cause they have a 'brush' tip, which is lovely to use. I bought Ciao because they are exactly the same except smaller (less ink). I don't use mine a LOT so thought this was the best way to go for me.
The official Copic site is good for this sort of info too.

I'm currently trying to sell my stash of copic markers. I have the originals that have the square barrel.
The colors I have were purchased when I was taking a class at my LSS on how to use copics and are the recommended beginners colors. I also have the guide of notes that the instructor gave us.

The Copics that you'll want to get first really depend on what kind of stamped images you will be coloring. If it is more floral and nature type stamps then you will want to look into getting some color sets in the B, BG, G, YG, RV families. Where as if you plan on coloring up people or animal images I really recommend getting a lot of the E (earth tone) Copics.
I color character stamps all the time and some of my go to color combos are:
light skin- E000, E00, E11, R00, R20
dark skin- E23, E25, E27, E07
blonde hair- E50, E51, E53
brunette- E35, E57, E59
red hair- YR12, E08, E09, E18
black hair- C5, C7, C9
The list is really endless though.
