Embossing makes me so frustrated . I like the look, but I can never get it to work for me. Most of the time it becomes a big mess for me! |

That for me too, because I have some tools that do it, but not as well as things that aren't as old. So most embossed cards and layouts I see here are way better than I can do.
But, I was going to say misting. I can't seem to control where my mist goes the way I've seen some Peas do lately. Maybe because most of my mists were from the dollar section at M's. |

I will have to agree .. embossing.
If there are little specs that are embossed on the paper that are not supposed to ... It drives me nuts. This is after trying to clean it up. | |

Well, I have the "expensive" mists, like glimmer mists, and they don't spray any more precise or better for me. They are a hot mess and overall I hate them.

I must say as I have just finished doing this, but fussy cutting!! I have some patterned paper with that "moroccan screen" pattern. So I have just spent 15 min. cutting around the pattern. The strip of paper was only 8 inches long!!
Now, all that to say, it does look oh so pretty but not sure it is something I want to do again. Not for awhile anyway. |

For embossing, start with some kind of powder or embossing buddy. I actually use a baby sock full of cornstarch. Rub it over the cardstock before you put on your Versamark or other embossing ink. It helps the powder to not stick to oils and fingerprints on the paper. Be careful to handle the paper by the edges as much as you can and that helps too.
I also put my often used powders in a shallow ziploc container and I spoon the powder over the paper right in the container so it doesn't go everywhere, and heat the paper from underneath.
As for techniques that annoy me, I can sort of do mist splatters but if I actually spray them they never go where I want. More practice I guess! | |

Sewing...I see all these fabulous l/o's with STRAIGHT sewing on them and mine look as if I let one of my 3rd grade students sew on it!!!
I try to use practice scraps of paper to get better, but I just done get better. I wish I could get the hang of this technique...

Flocking is like glitter, but instead of being sparkly it's fuzzy.

Misting. Ugh. I can't stand the mess or the lack of control over how it looks on the paper. Even had a class with Glimmer Mist, I walked out because I was so frustrated. And messy.
Stamps. Love to buy them. Have taken classes. But again, it's a matter of CONTROL. Even with clear stamps, you can't control it enough to get perfect results.

Stamps... you can't control it enough to get perfect results.
You are very right! However, striving for "perfect" is not possible. Even if you go look at the work of some very well-known stampers (Jennifer McGuire, lots of Splitcoaststamper technique teachers etc.) you'll see imperfections in their cards as well.
Within reason, the slight imperfections is what makes the recipient know they've been given something handmade vs machine made! I say embrace the little glitches - it's an imperfect world and 99.9% of the time, only you will know. | |

They are kind of "out" right now but I have a frustrating time with eyelets & have several different setting tools but none seem to work really well.
I bought some larger sized eyelets recently & wanted to use them as hole reinforcers on a mini book & after I got them set, they fell off. |

Glitter. I LOVE it - especially on my dance pages. Bought a beautiful small set of Martha Stewart glitters in an "oh, what pretty colors - I must have them" mood, but using them makes me lose my religion.
(any tried and true techniques for glitter, before I go straight to hell??) LOL |

Mist! I want to love it!!! It's expensive, messy and I can not use it artfully! My spatters look like blobs. The bottles clog, break, or leak. Tried it last night and ended up putting brads in every blob-spot. I give up!!
Flocking! That stuff goes everywhere and if you are not careful with your adhesive, you end up with animal paws for hands! I do use it in small doses to make flower centers.
Exacto knives. Can't cut a straight line with a ruler!! |

I thought I would chime in because I spent most of my day trying to achieve the look that seems to be popular now-positioning embellies together in a spot and layering them. I love what everyone else is able to achieve when it is done, but I really struggled with this yesterday while trying to complete my first challenge. | |

I think Glitter Girl recently did an episode on using glitter if that helps. And in her chipboard episode near the beginning of the series
Paperclipping Roundtable also did a podcast about glitter and ideas too.
I also struggle with embossing - not the actual doing it so much but using it in scrapbooking. I used to do it for cards and stuff, and now I never even bother. I have a few pots of powder and I just do nothing with them because I don't feel inspired to use them on pages.
Also, the whole stamping into embossing powder was something i thought looked amazing, but just so much faff!!! I was inspired to make my own embellishments and accents with it... never did. Lol. | |

Ink droplets/spattering/misting/etc. drives me nuts because I want my drops to look "just so" and everyone knows that you can't exactly MAKE them fall where you want. You have to flick them on there and hope for the best! My OCD self doesn't always like where they fall. lol |

Oh so many things...Stamping always makes me nervous so I don't do much of it. So I guess embossing goes along with that.
And clustering - I'm trying to learn and watch Glitter Girl and how she makes it look so easy. But I can't seem to "build" just the right layers. Still working on that.
Yes, misting! Mine never looks like I planned it to, but I'm learning to let go. Since GG showed us about dripping it from the sprayer instead of spraying it, I'm liking it much better.

It helps a bit, but I don't think they work all that great either. It's time consuming, but I go through with a tiny brush and wipe/flick bits away. |

I won't even try spray mist. I use it on digital papers, but I don't want any part of it on my paper pages. They are uber expensive, no control and I have heard about the mess. No thanks.
I'm not much into sewing on my pages either. Something always goes horribly wrong with my bobbin the minute I start on paper. I can sew fabric all day long and be fine, but the darn thing hates paper! |

I have to say I love this thread!!! All the things that I admire on projects like embossing, misting, sewing are techniques I try to avoid like the plauge (yet I have the supplies to so them). Now I know why I have 'hidden' in my craft space - because I don't want to use them. This is refreshing to read and I feel that being honest of what I do not like to do may result in finding new homes for my unloved items.

Another one with misting issues. I have several but it gets so wet! I just don't have the patience for it. I did used them in the summer but haven't since. All I think is how hard it was to make them right that It really freezes me. I also don't have much space so that's another thing that makes it hard for me. |

I hate spray misting-the clogged nozzles drive me nuts! Ever since I saw Glitter Girl just dripping it onto the page-that is normally the way I do it now! As for the flocking, I bought the whole Doodlebug set, and never used it once oops! |

I really like most of the techniques on here. My one experiment with flocking was a major fail & I have avoided it ever since. That's okay, though, because I decided I'm not a big fan of flocking anyways.
The one thing that I am consistently bad at & find myself avoiding whenever possible is border punching. I can never get my punch lined up perfectly enough, for some reason and it drives me absolutely bananas! So I stick to the basics like scallops and notebook, where mistakes won't be as noticeable & avoid the fancy Martha edges. |

Cutting with a craft knife: I have seen such awesome work with craft knives, and although I have gotten slightly better at it, I still have a long way to go.

Apparently, I over-estimated my embossing skill. I have embossed on cardstock with no problems. However, today I attempted to emboss the chipboard Thickers that came in the SC kit. Oh.M.Gee. I am ready to SCREAM!!!!!!
Seriously. Worst experience scrapping ever.
I am putting it away and will go to plan B. Whatever that is! |

I've had some trouble with misting too. My problem is getting it to come out of the bottles. Glimmer mist clogs&mr Huey can be heavy. I threw a bottle of mr Huey away the other day because the color was horrible and the mist was just coming out crazy. I've used several times never been happy with it so in the trash it goes. I was so frustrated with it.
Using screens with the mist is impossible for me. I must spray to much because when I pick up the screen it looks like one big blob. |

I love embossing and I love glitter. I do it in the work room though (as in tools and nails and sawdust). There is glitter all over the work bench and power tools. | |

Trying to fold the two ends of a piece of washi together to cut into a pennant shape! Drives me crazy because I can never get the ends to meet evenly! Embossing would be my second theres always powder left on the paper or the image doesn't come out clear! & the process is messy, just like using loose glitter! Lol I could go on.. |
