I'm obviously a lurker and registered just to post this. I had been researching and looking up Sihouette posts and youtube videos for ages. Finally bit the bullet and bought one and got it delivered FRIDAY, yes 2 days ago. And I've been a cutting fool! Until today, I cut through my mat just now!!! ACK!!! What do I do? Can I save it? Should I put some painters tape (or any tape for that matter) underneath the parts where the blade went through? I was cutting 2 small frames and it went thru in some parts and some are still attached, if that makes sense.
Am I the only fewl thats done this??? (No offense to anyone who has, I am just SO upset with myself for this since I went through such a production to get the machine and to mess it up the 2nd day is tear-worthy in my book!) I cut the frames out of heavy card stock twice before (on blade #4 and then #5) and it didnt go thru the paper at all, then the last time I put the blade on 6 and thats when it cut through. Any thoughts?

Your not the first to do this, just put clear box tape on the back and you will be good to go. Go with the recomended settings till you get a feel for the machine

Same thing happened to me last week. I got mine for Christmas, an I think I had blade setting on 5 instead of 3 and it cut through my mat in 2 small spots. I just turned the mat around and am using the bottom half. Oh we'll, these things happen!

Mine has cut through in many places. My mat is so worn I should probably trash it. I have a brand new one and use that one but I keep the old one for projects where I'm cutting multiple images. Right now I'm using it to cut boxes for valentines day parties for DS. |

Thanks so much ladies! I feel much better knowing that its not totally ruined! I am deep in the midst of DIYing alot of my wedding paperstuffs and ordering another mat would totally slow me down. Thanks a million for the super fast responses! I can breath a sigh of relief now... |

I don't have a Cameo as I still have my Cricut Expression, but I just wanted to mention for lurkers that I've seen a couple of videos on You tube where they took a cheapy plastic placemat, cut it to the proper size, taped off the edges and applied spray adhesive to it. They then used it just fine in their Expression = you can watch the machine actually cut on it.
Soooo, in a pinch - I thought I'd just throw that out there if you have a die cutting emergency and can't wait for new mats to arrive! If my machine was new, I'd be careful about the warranty - but other than that, I'm going to give it a try when these last couple of mats I have are almost worn out.

I would order a new mat tonight, tape the cut one, and keep working on the project.
That way, if you really need the new one, its on the way. And if the old one works fine, you will have a back up. I'd order another blade, too. It's hard to find that stuff locally and I work on a lot of projects at night, when the stores aren't open anyway.
Both are available on Amazon, with Prime shipping as well. |

You can still use a mat that has cut marks, but I would order a new one ASAP since you are using them for wedding stuff and probably don't want to run into errors. |

I use Cricut mats too. I prefer the sturdiness of them. |

If you live near an Archivers, they are carrying the Silhouette stuff now, so you could pick up a mat from there without having to wait for one to be delivered. Sorry that happened to you. |

I hit load media once instead of load mat and it cut on my mat. It didn't cut all the way through. I continued using that mat but had to retire it recently as it was getting very worn out!! |

Thanks ladies, I have Amazon prime so I am on it! Especially for the blade. I will order a fabric blade as well, since that one has a removeable blade cover. I see a bunch of little paper scraps inside of the blade that came with my machine and I been blowing into it but i cant get some small scraps of paper out even though it still cuts.
Didnt know the cricut mats were sturdier, they are real cheap on amazon ($9.50 for 2) so I might order and test them out. The reviews on amazon have alot of complaints about the cricut mat not keeping its stick long at all though, so not sure. I dont have an archivers near me in DC, I pretty much get everything from Joann"s, Michael"s or AC Moore. The nearest Hobby Lobby is an hour away and I make a trek there maybe once every couple of weeks if necessary but i know they dont sell Silhouette items anyway.
One thing though I didnt notice until late last night... There is a long black plastic pad on the entrance of the Cameo that follows the path the blade travels, on mine its deeply slit about 4 inches long in the same spot where the blade went through my mat. Is that okay?

Scrapdoodles down in Fredericksburg has SIL stuff. Just call first to see if they have what you are looking for in stock and ask if they'll hold it for you. They are all very nice there! |
