Where did you purchase your Silhouette Cameo? Does Michaels or Joanns craft store carry it? |

New to this product. I have looked up some you tube videos to understand it better. My question is can you download any digital font or shapes and the machine will cut it? |

Funny I saw this as I am debating on purchasing one right this second and have 2 windows open for it, Amazon & Overstock.com - both $238....now that I am starting Project Life and have come across Ali E's files, it's like I am ready to go for it!

I got mine new from oh my crafts right after they came out. For I think it was $250, I got the machine, a vinyl package and a sketch pen package. Plus free shipping.
You can use any font already on your computer too or any font you can download. The Silhouette store has 19 thousand or so files now plus there are a ton of free ones on the Internet. |

First thank you for all your help. Like I wrote on a pervious post I have been out of scrapbooking for 5 years because of having a 4&5 year old. So much has changed and evolved. I only have owned quickutz and I am so not computer savvy so this is new to me. . I did see the one on Amazon but they have a starter kit. Do I need the pen set? How does the pen set work?

I would just get the Cameo without all of the extras. You really only need a spatula, a mat and blade, your computer and the downloaded shapes. I had those pens (to draw shapes) for my Cricut and I never used them. Unless you think you will use all of that, I would skip it. There will be a learning curve with the Cameo software, but Youtube has tons of great tutorials. My favorite tutorials from Jin/underacherrytree.com. She is great with showing the functionality of the software in her videos. |

I got mine as a bundle from Amazon with free shipping and every bit of it was totally worth it! I sold both of my Cricuts and 27 cartridges to get it and I have regretted it once! It is so much more economical than a Cricut! There is SO much out there that you can buy to cut and so much more than you can create yourself! DO IT! You will love it!

I just bought one at UScutters for $189 refurbished. The price goes up and down, the day before it was $219. So, just keep an eye on it if you want to get it cheap.
My only regret is not getting it sooner! |

Not all fonts can be used, but all TTF and OTF fonts can be used.
I was shocked to find out that there are other file extensions for fonts, but honestly I've never found a font that I couldn't cut.
My favorite Silhouette "teachers" at you tube are DoodlingDebbie, and 2tinytreasures. |

sbbright (or anyone else who bought at A's)-what were the 100 free images like? Anything good? I've been thinking about getting it there because of the extra images but if they're nothing I'd use I'd rather save a few $ and order from Amazon or somewhere...

my hubby got mine at Paper Source in the mall last year for Mother's Day. I'm sure he paid a bit more but he walked in, picked it up and made my Mother's Day! You can go see a demo at the store. My Lss has them now, so check with your local SB store too.

You have to get a Silhouette if you don't have one. <<That's not to sound like I'm yelling at you. I'm just saying the Cameo is the first die cut machine I've ever owned and I won't lie at first it was a love hate relationship, mostly hate because I wasn't sure how to use it and it was brand new. Now, BEST MACHINE EVER. There are also so many tutorials out there now I can't imagine anyone having a problem they can't just google and figure out in minutes. I use this machine with any font I want and create titles all the time. I buy a lot of Ali Edward's digital files, trace them, and cut them with my Silhouette, LOVE! Of course, I buy items from the Silhouette store too, it's so easy and mostly every design on there is $0.99!
But yes, you can use any font on your computer or download free ones from plenty of places. Also, a lot of blogs offer free cut files they create once in awhile. The few dollars you spend here and there a month isn't even that much, if I spend $5 a month on items to cut with my cameo I would say it's average. Definitely a must buy

Thanks Brickle. It does look like it is going to take some time to get use to, but everything I see so far looks amazing. On the pens that go with the cameo can it be for journaling into whatever shape I pick? I tried googling and you tube to see what they are used for but it looks like it just draws a shape from what I have seen. Little confused on that.

That's great that they adjusted the price. They only do that every so often as it's not their normal policy. I love Amazon's CS! |

I actually think the Cameo is easier to learn than other machines, and Ive had several. The software is more intuitive than some others. And the settings usually work on what is recommended in the book.
Of course, there is a learning curve, but in no time, you'll be a pro!
I'm going to make a new thread of some of the cool sites that I have found for free files later, too.
ETA: For those who missed it, here a great Cameo master thread with links to just about everything Cameo:
