I recently broke my foot in a tumble down the stairs at home.

The dogs were completely out of food and I needed a few larger item, so I trekked to Wal Mart. I clunked around in my cast putting all of the heavy stuff in my cart and made my way to the register.

A wonderful young lady was my cashier. She noticed I didn't feel well and she unloaded my cart onto the belt and took care of getting the items back into my cart after I paid. She told me "do me a favor and sit on the bench by my register and relax". She called her manager and asked if someone could take my cart to my car and unload it. A few moments later a young man helped me to my car.

She was such a breath of fresh air. She went out of her way to take care of me, I was very impressed.

I wrote a nice card to the Manager letting him know that he had quite a valuable employee and to please thank her again for me.

Her parents brought up a kind, thoughtful young woman who showed compassion for a broken down customer!

glade she was such a help. However, with how they run stuff she will be gone in a few weeks. Due to doing what she did she dropped her numbers per minute. If they drop below a one number then they are fired.


I have quite a few learing disabilitys that effect my spelling a grammer. I do know my grammer and spelling suck. I have been working on this problem all my adult life.

WoW!! That is something you just don't hear of anymore and especially from a Walmart employee. I could go on for days about the lack of care or job interest at that store but maybe there is hope for this world after all! Sorry you aren't feeling well and so glad that she helped you out when you needed it most.

How lovely! It was good of you to write a note to her manager too. I am a cashier at a well known pet store and try hard to be that kind of person. It is tough being a cashier at times but many people brighten my day! (We won't mention the grumpy ungrateful ones!!!)

What a great story. I've only shopped at Walmarts where the employees are polite and helpful so all my experiences have been good. I read here though about some really bad stores.

That is wonderful that you had such a nice experience.

Before my uncle died, Walmart was one of the only stores my aunt would shop at. My uncle was sick for about 2 years before he died. My aunt would pull up at Walmart and go in to get one of their motorized carts for my uncle. An employee used to always bring it out to him, make sure he got safely into the cart and when she was done shopping, someone would go to the car with her, get her purchases loaded, help my uncle back into the car and return the motorized cart for my aunt. Sometimes they did this multiple times a week. My uncle was not able to get out very much those last couple of years and due to the Walmart employees that were very helpful, it gave him at least one outing a week.

Dark angel- I've never heard of anything like that, and I have worked at 2 different walmarts in the past.

Op- good for you writing a note to the manager. They usually make a big deal of that kind of thing. She deserves the recognition. What a sweet girl, to be so helpful and kind!

Walmart DOES want you to keep your numbers up BUT I've never known them to be THAT picky. Especially if your numbers go down real low here and there. My store manager is all about help the customer first and worry about numbers second.

Thanks for sending a card, nothing gets management attention like a card and will make the cashier feel so good.

I hope you are on the mend soon!

I have worked at WalMart (in college) and know someone that is working there now. According to her, when you go to a cashier that isn't checking someone out, and they type a bunch of numbers into the register, that is them logging back in.

As long as the cashier in the OP logged out after she finished checking the OP out, she wouldn't be penalized.

The system is to make sure customers are being checked out at a centain speed. Otherwise, any cashier working at a slow time would automatically have low numbers.

Wow! "Wal Mart" and "great customer service" are two phrases you rarely see in the same sentence.

I do hope you'll go out of your way to contact corporate and let them know how well you were treated, as well. It was really thoughtful of you to send a card to the manager.

I hope you're out of that cast soon!

My father passed away 20 years ago - went to work and dropped of a heart attack. My family was shaken to the core. My mom was 47 and he was 50. My mom could not function. Her dr. called in an RX to help her sleep. I went to pick it up. When I got to WM, they had a pharmacy line a mile long. Their staff noticed me and my condition, came out and asked who I was. Then proceeded to tell the customers that they needed to take care of me first. I was forever grateful!

Then, once last year, I experienced excellent service from a cashier and I called the store and spoke with the manager. She was stunned. She said that no one ever calls to compliment, just to complain. She thanked me for taking the time to call!

That's great! I've also had mostly all good experiences at my local WM. Including shopping on Thanksgiving night.
