so I'm looking around 2 peas @ the svg's available & I see the option to by THANK YOU. It is written 4 times & sells for $6.oo
Tell me why on earth I'd want to purchase that when I can pull up a font I have downloaded on my computer (for free) and type the word thankyou & cut it.
Am I TOTALLY missing out on something? Do I NOT understand how the Cameo & SVG's will work?
Since I'm new to all this I'm really thinking I'm not getting something.

I like SVGCuts, plus they have lots of freebies. My new favorite site is Miss Kate's Cuttables. She has one freebie per day. |

Hey there, I don't have those exact cutters, but I think the thing you are missing is yes, you can probably design your own "Thank You" in your cutter, however, some people may not be very good designers or don't have the time and will pay for the designs that someone already created.
Hope that helps.

You might buy it if you like the font. Some fonts can cost as much as $100 to purchase. I have bought a couple words because I didn't have access to the font. |

That is expensive. I went and looked for the file you mentioned and see that it is by a designer that is fairly well known and doesn't often "market" her handwriting (which one of the die cuts in the sets happens to be). Maybe they figure that makes the set worth the hefty price tag. It would be hard for me to pay that much for 4 phrases.

$6 is kinda expensive for a few words! Usually its only $3 and under.. I wonder why it's so expensive? But your right, you can easily create your own "thank you" I guess the reason why some would buy it would be for the font style... |

The cursive "thank you" is a very cute font. If that is her handwriting, you won't find the font elsewhere. I could easily create the others myself, and I could easily create a cursive version using a different font. However, some people don't do their own design work, and some people see a font and "have to have it" so those types of crafters might be willing to pay a little higher price for this set in order to get the cursive version in that particular font. |

Here's the first one that popped up when I did a search; it happens to be "on sale" right now but if you notice, the regular price is $194.
Over $100 font
Many fonts that cost $$$ come with commercial license; I don't need that. And since there are LOTS of free fonts out there, I can't imagine paying $6 for one cut file (ok, technically 4...but still). However, some people like the ease/convenience/whatever and since it's their money they can spend it how they please.
FYI: thanks for the link to Miss Kate cuttables; she has adorable things!

that's what I wanted to make sure of...since I don't have this cutter yet & have never seen it work, I wasn't sure if those fonts had something special about them that I can't do on my own (once y'all teach me!) & thus the high price

Well, I like to do things for myself, and I agree it would be easy to recreate. However, remember that the artist had to pay for the license to use the fonts (except her own handwriting). Her handwritten font is cute.
Also, it's not *quite* as easy as just typing the words into the Silhouette software. The letters have been ungrouped, moved and welded back together. I definitely prefer to weld my titles for ease of placing on my layout.
But I would do it myself, personally.
