I have a Cricut and a Big Shot and I am totally happy with both.
The idea of having to use your computer to scrapbook is totally unappealing to me. Although I do have to admit that it can do some pretty amazing things and I admire the pages that people create using the Cameo.
Does anyone else feel the same way? | |

I don't. I have a Slice and a Expression that I never use. I'm just not a die cut kinda girl I guess.

I can understand not wanting a Cameo, especially if you already have other die cutting systems to work with.
But, the part about using your computer to scrapbook is almost no different than using your computer to watch scrapbooking vidoes, read scrapbooking blogs, look at scrapbooking galleries. And it is really no different at all than using your computer to print journalling or titles. The level of computer involvement is really quite minimal, especially if you are buying/downloading ready-to-use designs.
So for anyone who is not buying a Cameo because they don't want to use their computer, don't be scared of the computer part. It really is just a tool.

At this time, I don't want a Cameo. I have a Big Shot (which I love) and an Expression (that I purchased 2, yes 2 BF's ago,) that has yet to see the light of day! So, at least until I've actually used my Cricut, to know whether or not i like it....I do not need another die-cutter. I'm happy with what I have. (I think) lol | |

Eh... so far I am okay without one. I also have an E and a Bigkick. I have the Gypsy with my Cricut and even though I have SCAL also, 99% of the time I just cut from a cartridge I already own. Lately, however, most of my cuts are coming from hard dies and my BK.
I am also loving premade stuff again. For awhile I wouldn't let myself really BUY embellishments or alphas because I felt I had to make them myself after investing all that money into die cutting. I have finally given myself "permission" to just buy the stuff, already done. And you know what? I LOVE scrapping again. I am EXCITED about it again. It's no longer the chore it was becoming. And that's pretty cool.
I always thought that when my E finally broke, I would be replacing it with a Sizzix Eclips. And that may happen. But now I am kinda leaning toward not bothering to replace it at all. Maybe just pick up a few more basic hard dies, use the punches I have, and go with premade items for the rest of it. Of course I am reserving the right to change my mind about this in the event that my E should ACTUALLY break, rendering me incapable of completing a layout without "just the right die cut". |

For me it's not about being scared of the computer. It's more that I work on a computer all day, I don't want to be on one when I get home too. And as for the machines that dont require my computer like my slice and expression...I would just as soon use Thickers for my title, or already made embellies. Just a personal preference thing. |

I don't want a Cameo, but for different reasons. I have a Gazelle which I'm quite happy with, I bought it before the Cameo was a blip on the horizon. But, I like that Sil has a great shapes library, but I wouldn't want to pay a monthly fee.
The computer part isn't an issue for me, even though a lot of my scrapping is done on the go these days. I can block out where my title is going to go, and know if I want to add any other shapes when I get back home its no big deal, I just add my adhesive to the middle of elements, a la Shimelle.
Each of us have our own scrapping style and what we are comfortable with and what tools we want to learn/use, which is great! It means that all of our pages are totally unique!
Now, ask me about copics or alcohol inks, and I say no way, totally not interested! | |

I'm really intimidated by the Cameo. I've seen demos and I'm not very tech savvy, so I'd be worried about hounding my husband every time I needed something cut. I have an Expression and a Big Shot, and while I get tired of purchasing cartridges with a few "needed" shapes on them, the expense of the Cameo (and fear) will keep it out of my reach for awhile. |

I don't want one. I just don't have any desire to add that step to my process. That's also why I don't type my journaling or titles. There are times I wouldn't mind the ability to have some of the effects that are popular with the cameo, but most of the time, I don't even like layouts that are very cameo-heavy.
I do edit photos in photoshop, but I only started doing that with some frequency when I started PL. And that was mostly to make it easier for me to print the photos when I bring them to the photolab. I don't have to scroll through a bunch of pictures on my camera to find the ones I have to print, they are all sorted according to the size I want to print them on my USB stick. | |

I have a Cameo and love it and could not scrap without it. I mostly use my Cameo for cutting titles for my layouts. If you enjoy only using letter stickers and are okay with your own handwritting then you should be set and lucky for you! I LOVE the effect that my cut out titles give my layouts, I think you get a nice dimension. I guess it's all opinion and how you scrap but I agree that once you get a cameo you can't go back. It's a lot easier to have a cameo than a die cut machine with cartridges because then you are limited to only the designs you have. Hope this helps | |

I was so against a Cameo at first since I sit the computer all day at work and hate doing the extra work to get a cut. I even hate to print my journalling. But then I bit the bullet and got one and omg I love it. It's so easy and fast. I can mist something, and while mist is drying I get the title (or part of a title) cut out. I love making little shapes for layering, or stencils for art journalling. And it takes me 5 min to set it up to cut and then it does all the work while I'm doing something else. I will admit that I don't do complicated things like design my own shapes.
And I love that I can buy a shape at a time so I don't have bulky die sets or punches laying around, or need storage for carts. And I can always get the exact size I need instead of being limited by the die and punch sizes. Not to mention that my arm doesn't hurt if I need to crank out multiple shapes.
But while I love it, I totally get why it's not for everyone. I personally hate printing/editing photos and typing journalling, and doing brushes or any other digi/hybrid stuff. It's a pain. If the Cameo was not so easy to work with I wouldn't get an electronic cutter either. |

I didn't like the fact you had to have it hooked to your computer. I have had a Cricut since they first came out, but I was tired of all the hassles of this or that not working and the price of the cartridges. DH got me a Cameo for Christmas and I love it. It can be as simple or as complicated as you want it to be. Mostly I just cut predesigned shapes and use my own fonts for titles. Then I can match the font to my journaling if that is the look I want. But to each their own. It works for me. |

I have very little room for scrapping stuff, so I don't pay attention to any larger scrapping items. I gather it's along the lines of some sort of Cricut-y type thing, but I really don't know at all.

I have an original Sizzix (barely used), a Big Shot and the Personal Cricut (my sister gave me recently).. and that's good for me However, if I was just starting out scrapbooking and as "into" it as I was 8-10 years ago, I might...
but then :

I have a Cricut and love it. I don't feel the need to buy another machine for die cutting. I'm currently debating between a cuttlebug for embossing and a sewing machine to add stitching to my pages. Leaning toward sewing machine first.
@Biochem -- I've heard some people say that they don't want a system that requires the computer because they only have a desktop and that desktop computer isn't in the crafting area. Scrappers like that sometimes LOVE the Gypsy for Cricut. |

I have a Cuttlebug that I use periodically. I just feel like if I get a Cameo it will sit and collect dust because I just won't use it that much. I am tempted though. |

I think i know just where you are coming from...I have a bigshot and a circut myself, but find myself just wondering the difference btwn the Cameo and the circut...am i missing something? I know the cameo seems to give more detail, but is this b/c of the machine or the items im trying to cut with the circut? I don't know, but i am content with what i got...for now | |

I sold Cricuts at Michaels and it is amazing to me the 15 steps you walk through to cut one image vs. about a 5 second process to cut from the Cameo.
I think if you ever tried one yourself - you'd be hooked. I call mine "my beloved."
I literally decide ANYTHING I could ever want to cut, for instance, a circle that is 1.75" - I can cut that quicker on my Cameo than I can find a punch and punch it.
But, I like that Sil has a great shapes library, but I wouldn't want to pay a monthly fee.
I've never had a subscription. I just buy what I want at .99 an image and I get tons for free! I actually have probably spent about $20 total on images in the year I've had mine and I use it constantly. | |

For now, no, I'll keep using my Cricut. That is until either the Cricut dies or my computer. I have the SCAL software on my current computer which can no longer be downloaded for the Cricut.
I have no problem using the computer with a cutter. I would never have bought the Cricut if I hadn't been able to get software to cut what I want. ProvoCraft is losing customers left and right by not giving people that feature without all the cartridges.
Plus it looks like the Cameo cuts cleaner. |

I don't use my computer for any of those items above, nor am I scared of my computer. I have no desire to take up room with another "tool". A tool that will stay put while I go to crops and retreats no less so that I am stuck without it.
I don't want to have to pre plan every page before I leave the house either.

I didn't like the fact you had to have it hooked to your computer.
But you don't. I'm on our desk top in our den and my Cameo is downstairs in my scrap room. I transfer the design to an SD card and then put it on the cameo that way. Super easy!
I tend to work on the computer and create several cut outs, transfer then and then go down and acually cut them out. |

I love my cricut and I use it a lot I'm still on the fence about cameo but I'm a tech junkie so I imagine that I will purchase it at some point in my life. |

I have an expression 2 and I love it. I don't use the ccr, but I have an obscene amount of cartridges. I feel,I am getting pretty good at it too

I wouldn't mind having a Cameo, but everytime I see an image I want, I either have something similiar or I have been able to make it with my current die cutting machines or punches.
I'm not holding back really, I am just too lazy to put any effort into ordering it and setting it up right now. I am sure something will prompt me one day, to go ahead and get one. |

Basically agree with what everyone has been saying.
I have so many cricut cartridges that I can create anything in the silhouette store if I wanted. I don't need to switch from Cricut to a machine that can't even cut the same materials as my Cricut.
I don't like die cut titles and basically that is what the cameo is for. I use my cricut for cutting shapes, boxes, things out of different media etc. AND I don't have to be hooked up to my computer to use it. I am on the computer all the time, and I use it for entertainment while I'm scrapping so I don't want to have to stop that to cut. ALSO I love my GYPSY i design stuff on my commute, can't do that with a cameo unless I'm pulling out a laptop.
I'm not jumping on a bandwagon for another cutter that does less than what I already own and that I am a master at using.
Lately I have been getting back into manual dies more anyway...sometimes back to basics is for the best.

I had absolutely no interest with the Cameo until last week due to Project Life & Ali E's digital files. Even though I have a C E2, Big Shot, Cuttlebug, etc., I just adore those files and my other machines will not work.
I am debating about getting the smaller of the 2 though for my needs. |
