I suppose it was bound to happen. Can't really complain as this is the first big storm in 2 years. The weekend will be fun, then the novelty will wear off and then it's just yucky. Hopefully we are far enough from the coast (about 30 miles) so our snow will be the light fluffy kind

We're supposed to get about 6 inches (following the 18 we got late last week). But I'm guessing we may get more. It wasn't supposed to start until around 3 this afternoon, but we noticed it coming down pretty good around 10 this morning. yuck!

I am supposed to fly out of Chicago tomorrow to Florida.
Do you think my flight will be stranded?
YES, I have checked the airport website and the airline website. There is no information other than they are under a "storm watch", and not in a "closing airport" mode.
At least I have been able to continue my reservation at my hotel if my flight is cancelled. The hotel will not charge me if I cancel (as in IF my flight does fly) as they are over-booked. People that are physically in the hotel are priority over those with reservations. I have a high status with that hotel chain.

Writermom, I'm in Indiana and have heard we're getting nothing, too.
Call me cynical, but I tune out when every storm has the word super or epic in front of it. We were warned of a monster blizzard the day after Christmas. It shut down my city for about 6 to 8 hours and then everyone was rolling again on Thursday like normal. Nothing close to starvation or even boredom levels.
I sometimes wonder if the world wouldn't be better off without The Weather Channel needing to fill air time 24/7.
But with that said, for those of you who get snow, may your tree branches stay strong and the roads plowed quickly.

My area is now under a blizzard watch and current snow forecast for my area is 20-24"+. I'm actually pretty excited because I have REAL SNOW BOOTS after many years without. I'm hoping for snow drifts taller than Finn, it'll make for great pictures
But really, I keep enough stuff in the house and we have a generator, that I'm expecting more adventure and pretty white stuff than terror and freezing. |

I am actually really happy that we're getting a substantial snow storm (sorry to those of you who aren't so pleased!) I put in a request for the day off tomorrow first thing this morning and it was immediately approved. At 3 pm they announced the company will be closed tomorrow but hourly employees have to use sick or vacation time to be paid for the day.
I also have new snow boots (bought in October 2011 and not used yet) and am looking forward to going out for a walk with my dh. I'll also be helping him shovel out his Mom's house.
Stay safe everyone! |

I'm having anticipatory cabin fever. My two youngest had a dentist appointment at 10am and the receptionist said she didn't think we would make it in. We picked up dog food and by the time we got home at noon there was no accumulation on the roads and I'd say maybe an inch in the grass.
My husband's work closed at noon as did all town offices and our YMCA closed at 11. I understand the need to keep people off the roadways when it gets bad but it's still fine out there.

O.M.G! We just ran out of heating oil!
And yes, we're in the 16-25+ inches of snow area. It's a toasty 59 degrees in the house right now.
My dumb ass landlord has so much shit piled around the oil tank we're unable to read the gauge on it. We had oil delivered about a month and a half ago, we thought we'd be okay. Apparent this heating system burns it up in no time. We've only lived here for 6 months, so had no idea!
DH is getting diesel fuel to get us through. |

We can't get natural gas here and when it got to where fuel oil could run us $600/month back in 2005 we installed an outdoor woodburner. We haven't ordered fuel oil since (Knock Wood - ha) |

Yes, he knows what to get, or so he tells me. He works in plumbing and heating and has done it before. He's not to thrilled to have to dig out the oil tank to prime it first. |
