I've recently purchased a kit/collection and in it there were rolls and rolls of ribbons, but I have no idea how to use them!
I've used a little bit like how I would use washi tape - layering a strip below or above other strips of patterned paper jutting in from the side of a layout. But how else do people use them?
Just a note, all the ribbons I got in this kit are kind of thin, not the wide type.

You can use them as borders like border stickers or washi tape, I have seen others kinda gather it so it makes loops. Not sure if that makes sense. I saw it done yesterday in the gallery and really like the look of the loops. HTH

I usually use them across a page. Pretty much use them as I would strips of paper.

I know this is assuming, but I'm really starting to think you are one of those "entitled" peas - Dalayney 4/2/12

In addition to using them like Washi tape, I have used them to make borders, and to make flat bows held together with a brad in the center.
I'll try and post a picture...
|Posted: 5/5/2013 12:50:05 PM|OK, I just posted a LO for the first time, after 10 years of scrapping and at least 6 years on this board! I found out I'm going to have to get better at photographing my work, LOL...but here it is FWIW:

I fold a piece and staple it in the middle. Sometimes I use my tiny attacher but I also have a stapler with colored staples in it.
I also hand-stitch them in the middle using twine. Sometimes I make a bow out of the twine.
|Posted: 5/5/2013 1:06:17 PM|I use them to define a border between two patterned papers but I really love making loops like mentioned above. Here are a few links to pages I made using ribbon:
On the next one I pleated a piece of ribbon and used another to make a bow.

I have used ribbon in many different ways.
1.) draped it across the top of the page kind like a swag. I took mini clothes pins and clipped them on the ribbon.
2.) used it a tassel. Using the 1/8 inch ribbon.
3.) made holes and sewn it like you would thread around the layout
4.) layered it going from wide to skinny ribbon.
5.) used it to hang charms on layouts
6.) made bows with it.
7.) did a layout with little chipboard frames and wrapped thin ribbon part way around one of the frames. kinda like a candy cane stripe. then I took the ribbon and hung the frames by it.
There are more things I have done with ribbon. It is one of my challenge supplies so I try to come up with as many different ways to use it as I can. these are the ways I could get out of my brain this morning.

I've seen ribbon used to make flowers. I haven't tried this yet myself but there are videos on YouTube.

I have used ribbon to make a "frame" around a picture or journaling. Fun and different.

Definitely ribbon loops, I've been doing that for ages, especially on the tops of my pages or the sides of my cards.
I find ribbon much easier to use on cards. Perhaps thats because I have all boys, and can't use cute bows, etc. on my pages.

In general I use it in strips, similar to washi or border stickers...which is probably part of why I've had issues getting "into" washi. I figured I already have tons of ribbon and use it the same way.

wow, thanks for all the suggestions!
Lilith: I love the pleated ribbon idea; it's so simple and yet add such a 3 dimensional element to the layout.
desertgirl: Do you have an example of what you mean by fold the ribbon and staple in the middle? Do you mean like a bow?
dori-scraps: you reminded me that I did see a punch by WRMK which pre-punches paper for you to thread ribbon through... and I love the idea about wrapping ribbon around a frame
