Heritage Challenge 2010 Sneak Peek

Posted: December 27, 2009

HERITAGE CHALLENGE 2010 SNEAK PEEK Welcome Heritage Scrapping Enthusiasts! We are a group that focuses on scrapping those challenging photos from the 1970's and before.  If you have participated in the past, glad to have you back.  If you are new, we look forward to getting to know you. When planning for 2010, I tried to choose a variety of activities that will challenge both the new members as well as those of you who have participated in the past.  In 2010 challenges will vary from 4-6 weeks in length.  Each new challenge period will include several prompts to choose from.  There will be topic challenges, time period challenges, and technique/product challenges.  Having several choices will hopefully give more opportunity to participate.  There may even be an occasional RAK thrown in for motivation. NEW FOR 2010!  Since I don't want everyone to get bored with just me I am introducing the pop-up challenge.  These challenges will be unannounced challenges of 2 weeks or less that will pop-up in the current thread.  Anyone can post a pop-up challenge.  All I ask is that it be heritage related and that we try not to have more than one pop-up at a time.  If anyone has a question about this or anything pertaining to 2010, please pea mail.  I'm always open to suggestions and feedback. For Newbies:  General Guidelines for Heritage Challenges The Heritage Challenge appears on the General Scrapping Board.  Photos need to be 1970's or older.  You may combine this with other challenges.  Please post links to projects in the current thread on the General Scrapping board as well as checking the box for the current challenge when you upload. The first challenge will run from January 1-31 and I plan to post it on Dec. 31st.   Happy Scrapping in 2010!

Why Not Scrap Your Childhood

Posted: January 29, 2009

I always felt left out of being able to use all the pretty girly papers out there because I had 2 boys. Lately I've been having a ball re-living my childhood & being able to get "girly" by scrapping photos from the60's & 70's. I've even found a great group on the Pub board that hosts weekly challenges to help inspire. Check out the Flashback Friday's group at  http://www.twopeasinabucket.com/mb.asp?cmd=display&thread_id=2735694] Here's a couple recent layouts for the challenges

What's In My Bucket?

Posted: October 18, 2009

Margie Scherschligt here today posting on what's in my bucket. On this October late morning, I notice that my bucket is full of October Afternoon papers, labels, stickers, and alphas. FARM FRESH: We went to to a petting farm/apple orchard just a few days ago, and looking at these papers makes me want to get those photos developed as soon as possible. Such a great combination of flowers, checks, fruits,  and cute little animals. I was thrilled to see these Farm Fresh labels and tiny little alphas. The alphas will look so cute on those labels. I am crazy about the red/torquise combo here with the option to throw in a little brown, pink, or yellow depending on the photos I will be using.   REPORT CARD by October Afternoon: This is in my bucket, because the vintage feel of argyle, polka dots, flowers and stripes in this line is so appealing to me. I need to start snapping photos of my kids in their school activities, because this line is screaming for me make a theme album with it. Look at these alpha stickers!!!! LOVE! THEM!!!And these labels are the thing to tie a whole theme book together. I need a couple packages of those so that I can use them throughout. Making Memories: How about these buttons to add to the vintage feel of the October Afternoon papers. They are in my bucket as well. Happy Shopping, Peas!

Heritage Scrapbooking

Posted: May 17, 2009 by craftysuz

Everyone knows how much I love heritage scrapbooking. I'm always working with photos from the past.  From my childhood all the way back to my grandparent's childhood.  This causes me to spend a lot of time at the computer scanning & editing photos. I noticed some of the studio photos were printed on a thick textured cardstock type paper.  To keep that vintage feel (it also hides the imperfections) I printed this photo of my sister & I on Bazzill Cardstock instead of photo paper.  I think it really makes the page more authentic.

Heritage Challenge #10 - 11

Posted: February 29, 2008 by oldwesternpea

Welcome to the March 2008 Heritage Challenges Due to some other commitments that have come up for this month, I've decided to include both Challenge #10 and #11 in one post.  Hopefully this will give everyone a little extra time to think about what they want to do and search out the photos they want to use.  Guidelines: First and Foremost - HAVE FUN with the challenge! You may combine this challenge with other challenges. Sometimes we don't have the photos we need to record a heritage memory, so feel free to do a photoless layout. You can post more than one layout for the challenge.  Please post links to your layouts and questions related to this challenge to the Heritage Challenge #10-11 Message Board Thread so we can easily find them and comment on your fabulous work.  It also helps to include the words "Heritage Challenge" in your gallery post title.  This challenge can also be viewed from the Member Challenges area.  To have your layout appear in the member challenge area please click on the link to member challenges and choose the current heritage challenge when you are posting your layout.  MARCH HERITAGE CHALLENGE #10  Family Photos Let's do something creative with family photos.  We all have these - some are posed and some are more informal.  I have quite a few of these from different generations  and some of them are pretty somber.  I tend to pass them over for photos that are more "exciting".   Let's see what we can do with our family photos. MARCH HERITAGE CHALLENGE #11  Fashion With Easter just around the corner, it got me thinking about how every year we dressed up in our very best for Easter Sunday.  Many times we got a brand new outfit sewed by mom or on rare occasions an outfit from the catalog or bought in a store.  For this challenge, showcase fashion.  What were the styles over the decades?  Do your relatives look comfortable in their best duds?  Are there some funny fashions you wore that you look at now and wonder, "What was I thinking!"  Is there a favorite outfit that you wore over and over as a child?  Did Grandpa always wear bib overalls?  Did Grandma always wear an apron?  There are lots of ways you can do this so have fun! Bonus Challenge for March! In honor of St. Patrick ...

Heritage Challenge September 2008

Posted: September 1, 2008 by oldwesternpea

Hello All you Heritage Scrappers. It is September and time for a new challenge.  Summer is on its way out and time to get ready for winter.  I don't know about you, but I think it may be a long one with lots of opportunity to stay home and scrap! For September I decided to post a very open-ended challenge.  I want to see layouts of some the oldest photos you have that you have not scrapped before.  This is a challenge for new layouts (although it is always fun to see previously posted ones).  Challenge is to create 4 layouts in September using these oldest photos.  They can be either single or double page layouts.  Any format, sketch, color combo etc. may be used.   Just try to make the goal of 4 layouts.  Everyone who posts four new layouts to the September Heritage Challenge Thread will have their name put into the hat for a neat collection of vintage/antique trims that I will hand pick from the antique shop!  So - let's get back in the groove and do some heritage scrapping!

For a little extra boost there will be a little RAK at the end of this challenge.  For this first prize of the year I'm going to make it easy.  Anyone who completes at least ONE of the above challenges will be entered into the drawing.  To be eligible you must post a link to your project in the current Heritage Challenge thread on the General Scrapping board.  You may do as many challenges as you want but your name will be in the drawing only once.  Easy as pie! Heritage Challenge #9

Posted: February 13, 2008 by oldwesternpea

Hello All! I will be your host for Heritage Challenges #9-11 (one in Feb. and two in March). After that we will need volunteers for future challenges. It's not difficult, and you all have so many great ideas that we'd love to try. If you are interested in hosting, let me know and we will go from there. Now for the fun part......... Challenge #9 Family Traditions Scrap about a tradition in your family that has been passed from one generation to the next. It might be as simple as a food that is served at every family gathering or maybe a wedding gown or baptismal dress that is passed from one to another. It will be fun to see the different traditions that have meant so much to families that they continue them. Layouts need not have photos. You can do some creative journaling to tell your story if you wish. Post them on this thread so we can all see and comment. Feel free to combine this challenge with other challenges. This challenge will last the rest of February. I will post the next the first of March. Have fun! Below is a link to the Challenge #9 Thread.  http://twopeasinabucket.kaboose.com/mb.asp?cmd=display&thread_id=2489403

Ghosts of by-gone eras, watching, waiting, Remembering yesterdays and years of grace, Unblinking eyes and static pose, Lace collar, crisp white shirt and sternest face. Original Author: UnknownFamily Heritage Within the embrace of family we discover the sharing of life's most precious legacy. It is here we learn to love and to be loved, and to understand the meaning of listening hearts, outstretched hands, and the song of joy and laughter. The beauty of family brings us cherished memories we wish to hold forever, for it is through our memories that our hearts find their way home.User Comments:I thought this was so perfect for a family or heritage album.

American Heritage

Original Author: Elsie WalushAmerican Heritage The Declaration of Independence, The Constitution with its Bill of Rights: These are the bulwarks of our heritage, These are our nation's guiding lights. Freedom of speech, freedom of press, Freedom to worship as we please, The right to assemble, the right to petition, Are some of the freedoms we recite with ease. The right to life, the right to liberty, The right to pursue of happiness, The right to equality, the right to security, The right to live without undue stress. But what of many other rights, Not written in our laws; The right to labor, the right to suffer, The right to fight for freedom's cause? For these are rights our forefathers chose, When they laid our country's foundation, And these are the rights we must assume To preserve our precious nation. --Elsie WalushUser Comments:
