"Words Unsaid" Class Description:

Memories fade quickly and making sure we include all our stories within our scrapbooks can seem daunting. In this Mini Workshop, Garden Girl Jen Gallacher shares her approach for meaningful journaling. Jen is a dedicated journal keeper and has kept personal journals for over 30 years (ever since she was old enough to write). Now she combines her love of record keeping with scrapbooking! This journaling-centered class covers topics from holidays, to day-to-day events, to family moments, and several often forgotten subjects.

Chapter 2: Day-to-Day Living

Chapter 3: Stories to Remember

Each chapter includes 10 BRAND NEW layouts for a total of 30 layouts. An instructional video is provided for each chapter in which Jen discusses her philosophy on journaling each memory, as well as, her creative approach to journaling design. Each chapter video highlights the start-to-finish process of one of the chapter layouts. Watch Jen select the photos, journal her story, and complete a layout all under 30 minutes!

Beyond mere journaling, Jen discusses challenges to telling the story, creative methods for incorporating journaling on the page, and product suggestions for a fresh approach to journaling design. A helpful PDF is provided for each chapter and combines into a complete, comprehensive guide to meaningful journaling. Each layout is highlighted on its own page and includes the complete supply list, a close-up photo, and the approach to both documenting the story and the design of the journaling. Additional materials found within the PDF include topic ideas, journaling product ideas, and tips and tricks for journaling.

Journaling inspiration!

Thoroughly enjoyed the workshop. Putting meaningful words down on paper is always difficult for me as I usually suffer from blank-page syndrome. The videos and chapter .pdf's were a good source of inspiration, and I can apply some of the techniques to help me as I journal. Sound volume on some of the video was up and down, somewhat annoying, but overall an excellent effort.

Basically good workshop

There's no question that Jen does awesome layouts! I loved watching the videos and seeing how she builds a page from start to finish. They are works of art. She provides examples and a long list of creative ways to present journaling on a layout that I look forward to trying. Unfortunately, there were a few things about this workshop that didn't really work for me. First, on the technical side, the volume was inconsistent. The video wasn't very loud, so I had to turn the volume all the way up. Then there were short bits that were very loud. Second, the only way to read the journaling on the layouts in the PDFs was to blow up the pages 200% or more. Sometimes even that didn't work. It would have been helpful to have the journaling featured in a text box next to the layout since that’s the focus of this workshop. Last, I had expected a little bit more content about writing, about the nuts and bolts of telling a story. Overall, it’s a good workshop with a few small issues.

Not for Me

I'm sorry to say I didn't like this class at all and I asked for a refund. The content and theory of the class went against my own way of thinking. I don't think that every story should be told. Some are mundane, and some are too sad, for example. Scrapping a sad experience can help you heal from that experience but would you share it with anyone that has access to your scrapbook? I definitely wouldn't. If you feel like I do, you probably won't like the class.
