I graduated in college in 2002 with a Liberal Arts degree, now I do math! How does that happen?
I'm very involved in our local Bookcrossing group, the Rubber City Book Posse and I love to read, write and express myself in every way possible.
I just started physically scrapping in June 2008, and it's really cool so far. However, I'd done mixed media art projects, rubber stamping and card making for a few years, thanks to Nervousness.org.
I used to be a web designer, sports girl, newspaper assistant, bookseller, etc.
I take Wilton Cake Decorating Classes, have partial ownership of a black lab and have even less control of two cats, Max and Peeves. When I grow up, if I absolutely have to, I want to be a writer and live in Disneyland.

Three of my favorite pop culture things, in any order:
-Nightmare Before Christmas
-Batman (anything!)
-Marilyn Monroe

Inspired!

Maybe it's the season, or perhaps it's just that I finished writing my novel in a month, but I'm inspired and I want to create.

The question is, what to create?

I have ideas, but I don't have pictures for most (they're unfortunately trapped on a computer and not printed). And the ones I do have pictures of are not inspiring. And I'm out of cards, which I want to create but don't want to use my cardstock because I never make them even.

I have product, picked up some wassail papers and some urban prairie paper (which I use to substitute the Sassafrass Lass and Cosmo Cricket unavailable at my local chain on my 'I have to BUY!' jaunts. And my old neighbors picked up a kit of scrapbooking materials for my gift--it's beautiful and also has my very own (and very first) scrapbooking tote. Yay! I can hold my head up high as I plan for a 2009 crop (which will be my first official one).

I'm going to plan on getting some things in California. I've even made notes with directions around the places I'll be in the hopes that I'll be able to get some amazing materials that I couldn't find locally. Yes, for the most part this trip will be for me. I'm not buying 2,000 people souvenirs this time.

So what's a girl to do? I'll put my nose to the grindstone. Pick up some cards at my local paper factory. Look through and use my free picture vouchers for printing and find a way to use those 'uninspiring' pictures. Yeah, that's what I'm going to do.

Sounds good, right? Now I've just gotta convince myself. LOL.

The Featured Blog of the Day

Debbie T has blogged about Kits. Apparently a lot of peas get them (I don't, but I hope in the new year to sign up for at least one kit club), and she's challenged you to use your kits here!

To be honest, I think this is a GREAT idea. All too often we're caught up in buying something new, or we have our hearts sets on one specific line or look. Getting a kit can be wonderful because you get something new and fun each month. So hope on over to Debbie's blog and participate in her challenge. Think of it this way--when you use up your monthly kit, you'll have more room in your stash for other goodies, LOL...

The Featured Blog

Okay, so because I spend so much time reading the blogs on two peas, I've decided to feature different blogs that I like to read, with pretty pics and inspiring designs. The blog for today, 9 December 2008, is sweet... Literally and figuratively.

Garden Girl Shimelle.~* creates some really sweet layouts and projects, but it wasn't until she showed us her scrap-room that I saw why--her scraproom is just like a sweet shop! Check it out here, WARNING: Cute images may induce smiling!

I love the colors of this room, and the organization..the chandelier. And that she has a Neko Case postcard on her little scrap island. I think you almost HAVE to smile everytime you see this, and that's wonderful!

So go check out Shimelle's room and give her some feedback on her sweet shoppe scrap room!

Aggh! I spent too much!

I spent too much at a local store. After promising myself that I would only pic up a Dotto refill, I ended up with a mix of BG's Wassail paper, Urban Prarie paper AND a chatterbox album that was on clearance. And a pen, a really cool marker.

I got a few more things, but I am drawing a blank, LOL. Have a few ideas about how to correctly execute some things that I want to do. Twopeas has free shipping, so I think at the end of the month I'm going to put together an order. Get some things while I'm in CA and just store it for a bit until I get back. The BF usually spends a lot of January on the road, and I should have a lot of photos from California to scrap.

The women at the local Chain (A's) were so unprofessional. Two of the women were making photos, and messing with the photo machine and talking loudly. I stood next to a display for a few minutes before speaking up (apologetically) and the woman came over and had a really bad attitude and told me I wasn't paying attention. Then something was mismarked, and I ended up not getting it and getting a repositionable refill for my dotto. There was a really sweet girl behind the counter, she was busily making bows and the other two girls were telling her (snottily) about how she was such a good worker and they couldn't believe she was good with sticking behind the counter all shift. Seriously, I can't stand people like that--why would you even want to work with people that are that catty?

Of course, the acting manager was one of those catty women. And when I checked out, she kept going through my paper and saying, 'oh, nice' and bending them. I told her where they were located and she was like, "Oh, I was just trying to be nice, I'm not buying this crap" and I shared a shock look with the nice girl. She kinda shrugged, conveying that the acting manager was normally like that without saying it.

Tech Meets Scrap: TwitPics

I've finally been able to find something that works for me. While the quality is by no means 100% amazing, I've been able to take quick pictures of my layouts with my camera phone, post them to twitter's photo site (twitpic) and then use those photos on my content page for my layout. Once I get more time to actually scan the layouts, this shouldn't be an issue, but for right now, this works because I'm constantly getting new pictures added to my feed, which prompts me to add them here.

Yay!!!!

Just need a picture!

I found an obit of my Granny last night in an ancient scrapbook that I covered in stickers and comic strips years ago. So I cut it out and used a monogram pin of hers to accent it.

All I'm missing is the photo, which I hope to add once I get the copy from my mom...

I'm a Winner!!!!

Okay, so I changed my story idea 3 days into the month, ended up not writing for nearly two weeks and finished at the last minute (okay, at 6 o'clock last night), but I did it!!!
I'm a winner of NaNoWriMo for the 4th time! In the six years I've done it, I've been able to finish the first year and then every year in the last three.

So what does it mean? I have a lot of editing to do, but the best part is that it's done and now I can focus on other things (like cardmaking, reading and scrapping)! I found an old scrapbook last night with my great-grandmother's obituary in it. I was able to save most of the clipping and have plans to use it in a layout with a piece of her old jewelry. There's a picture I'm going to ask my mom to make a copy of for the layout, but other than that it's all good. Yay! I'm thinking I might try to crochet (or find) an old doily and use that on the page as well. It'll be a thick page, but definitely meaningful, and that's what is important right now.

So I come out of writing a novel in a month to start working on scrapping. That's a pretty good trade for me. LOL.
