10 Scrappy Things to Do on a Rainy Day (or any day!)

Rainyday

Sources: 1, 2 & 3 by Shannon Tidwell , 4 by kristinanw on Instagram & 5

We woke up to a little rain here in PeaTown this morning and I thought it'd be fun to put a helpful little list together for you.

1.  Organize your photos!  Go through photo boxes, albums or the library on your computer and file them.

2.  Write down your thoughts.  Whether you're catching up on Project Life, needing to get down a memory you don't want to forget, or just that last little bit on a layout, now is the perfect time to do it.

3.  Clean off your scrap desk.

4.  Create something with the scraps of paper and embellishments you have lying on your table.

5.  Put your layouts in an album.  You know, that pile you have over there in the corner. It will feel so good to give your pages a home.

6.  Print photos.  Upload them to an online service or print at home, you'll be glad you did!

7.  Make a card.  That someone you've been thinking of will be touched.

8.  Catch up on Two Peas.  You know we have to throw this in here. :)  Browse the latest products.  Catch up on the Design Team projects or a video.  Take a workshop. :)

9.  Try something new.  A new technique, new product, new topic to scrap, anything.

10.  Start from scratch.  You may have a handful of other projects you've started.  It's okay to begin something else for a change of pace.  Then watch the creativity spark!

Trends Watch: Airmail

Trendswatch-airmail

The iconic red, white and blue diagonal stripe along with postage script and stamp designs are popping up everywhere these days.  We love the airmail trend!  Here are a few projects we've spied as of late incorporating this trend:

Sending You My Love by Laura Odonnell

A coin envelope is the perfect "mat" for Laura's choice of focal point embellisments: a stamped image layered over loops of twine.  She's customized her sentiment by adding a heart where the letter "O" belongs.

This Week's Challenges 5.26.2012

Thisweek'schallenges

Here is a new round of challenges!  We love seeing how these inspire you to create your own project and hope you can play along this week.

Remember each challenge gives you a chance to win a $5 gift certificate, as well as earns you a badge for your Two Peas profile page.  Just click on the title of each challenge for details on how to enter, and scroll down to see last week's winners!

Weekly Scrap Challenge | Sketch Challenge with Amy

Projects-a1474ff6-d593-4260-9f41-8dafa37f7f40-fcb6bb62fbd44a7e914069d259eec85f

From Amy, "Oh, man, do I love orange right now! Not sure what it is, but I am just wanting it in everything! So, it's no surprise that I created a page that uses LOTS of orange in it to feature this picture I took last week of my lil' guy playing at the playground, and on the move as usual! :D
To balance things out, I used many of my favorite neutral papers right now and trimmed them into squares then laid them out so that just peeks of color came through, but wasn't too overwhelming. I really wanted the image of my son to really shine in all of his tie-dyed, vibrant glory, so the neutrals really helped to do that. :D

  Projects-a1474ff6-d593-4260-9f41-8dafa37f7f40-749b2bfd7d3d42f9aca036754575becb-1

The Challenge: This week, I thought I'd bring you a sketch challenge! The sketch is fairly basic with lots of squares that you can do a lot with - place journaling inside, use for photos, or as I have done, create a patterned paper collage with! It's up to you!"

Weekly Photography Challenge: Old and New with Wilna

Projects-2900c1dd-f28b-4e9f-a3a2-ec0f890d1f7e-8f8b98ae6cb740e2b9542194994d20a5

From Wilna, "So, the theme OLD and NEW can be interpreted a million ways... and I thought about the progression of time and that lead me to interpret it in terms of old pictures and new pictures. This is my oldest girl Tia... in 2009 and 2012. I love to see how she is growing into a little lady... it makes me sad and happy at the same time."

Saturday Card Sketch Challenge with Kimber

Sketch526

From Kimber, "Buttons, buttons, buttons! I was reorganizing my desk and I had a HUGE pile of buttons. Man alive. I can't resist them because they ALWAYS work on cards. Sooo... this week's sketch utilizes buttons a lot. You can easily use punched circles, stamped circles, or not any circles at all. Repeat a shape or embellishment across your card for a great, fun border."

Congrats to ellymew, eagertoretire, and mommapaparazzi  - we'll be in touch with you shortly on how to access your gift certificate!  And thanks to everyone who played along!

This Week's Class Videos 5.25.2012

Thisweeksclassvideos

We've wrapped up another week of classes here at Two Peas!  Here is a look back at what we saw go live this week:

Memory Keeping Monday | I Miss Those Piggies by Jen Gallacher

Projects-62c13cc3-708a-4484-8df4-2298c86427cb-3019750c82bf498fb8b799be48cea360

From Jen, "I love patterned paper. Ok. Seriously like LOVE patterned paper. But one of my favorite ways to use patterned paper is to select pages from my favorite 6" X 6" paper pads. I stock up on these like they're a hidden chocolate stash.

For this layout, I cut several pieces into banner shapes and hung them from the top of my layout. I decorated them with some fun embellishments. Then I added a die cut photo border at the bottom of the layout and then added some wooden "girl" pieces to complete the look.

This layout is dedicated to my sweet niece who has the cutest "piggies" around.

Watch this helpful video on creating this layout start-to-finish:

From Shimelle, "This week Glitter Girl explores ideas for starting a scrapbook about yourself, something currently being discussed here  on the General Scrapbooking message board. This week her adventure takes her through a few sample layouts from her albums and the creation of two pages: one with an old photo from school days and a 'right now' page with a current photo.

Garden Theme Round-Up: Florals Part 2

Florals2

Yesterday we took a look at how some of the Garden Girls have used florals in their recent projects; today we have another batch to share with you using this timeless and favorite embellishment!

Projects-c9f240f9-61d6-4d08-b1a5-60734ed408f8-ea7f6a5d86694d43be7a8b7294019db7

Always Spring by Jill Sprott

Jill creates a collage of favorite floral patterns instead of narrowing down her choices - the more florals the merrier!  She's careful to repeat designs in a few different places on her page to create visual triangles.  I love how this page makes me feel I'm in the midst of a lush garden!

Projects-2035f1f6-6761-4970-9fa4-a309026d7c52-6cd164cec8a646f7a1113ce9b7b9ccbd

April Loves by Wilna Furstenberg

Is just-the-right flower difficult to find in your craft supply?  Try making your own!  Wilna used her Silhouette Cameo to to create these delicate vine borders, layering them on top of each other and changing up the colors.

Such a Happy Day by Laura Craigie

Grouping together accents of similar colors and placing them in close proximity to your focal point embellishment will create a cohesive look in a project.  We love the aquas in Laura's blossom, brads and buttons!

Pink Fish and Our Girly Girl by Shannon Tidwell

See how Shannon challenged herself to experiment with florals in these two videos she did for our Memory Keeping Monday series.  A little fabric, a bit of paint, and some whimsical stitching can make quite a statement on a page!

Love Lives Here by Jen Gallacher

Jen also played along with the topic in her video this month and shares techniques for changing up your florals.  Don't be afraid to alter pre-designed embellishments!  I also love the way the white in her accents match her title and pop up against her navy blue paper.

That concludes this edition of our Garden Theme Round-Up: Using Florals. I hope this sparks some ideas for you!  And remember, we have over 300 florals to browse in the store if you want to search by just this category alone!

Garden Theme Round-Up: Florals

Florals

Flowers are a timeless embellishment.  We love using them because of the beauty we see in them in nature, and the variety and possibilities are endless!  Perhaps that is why we have over 300 blossoms to choose from available in the store.

With the recent warm weather we have experienced in the changing seasons, we challenged a few of the Garden Girls to have fun playing with florals in their recent projects.  Here is what they came up with.

Also, don't forget our giveaway for Amy's new workshop is still open!

Projects-b35528b6-7365-4de0-ad7c-04232d6c5e6c-f0b8872aaa2c40fe834ca673dc95c8c3

In the Moment by Becky Novacek

An eclectic batch of florals pop against a chic mix of white and cream.  Canvas florals like these can be altered with spray mists or other color mediums, or left alone like Becky has done here.

Projects-85c0023c-57b3-4d7a-9a5e-fbadccd8e735-dfbbbaa495d54e08a543da8759450596

That's My Girl by Jaime Warren

One way to get mileage out of the blossoms in your stash is to cut them out of your favorite floral patterned paper.  Give them dimension by lifting them off the page with pop-dots, and cluster them with clouds, stars and doilies for a whimsical feel.

Projects-818fbd6b-bbf4-4ebd-96a3-a9f2088da8c3-afb8bc98e6324491b0a696b14f57c4e3

Loved Every Minute by Amy Tan

Amy created her own custom embellishment by layering punched vellum, a strawberry brad and velvet-y leaves in the center of her layout.  She finished off the layout with some subtle stamping of a teeny tiny floral design.  Lovely!

Projects-b076cdbb-e071-43ed-a783-c1182e3e9da6-66613759e6664044b775e0efc0eb5049

Thanks for Everything by Kandis Smith

Do you need some inspiration for mixing products from different manufacturers?  Kandis shares how!  She's created a beautiful focal point in this card set by layering a trendy woodgrain label with delicate lace florals and fun stick pins.

Projects-0107344d-fbc2-4145-ad2e-da08466a01af-1d48d19186484dc3b990f8ee44d42271

You Are My Sunshine by Wendy Sue Anderson

Wendy has selected a handful of beautiful printed florals for this texture-filled page.  Prima Marketing often does the work for you by adding centers to their flowers, but you can just as easily add buttons, twine, punched paper, etc to give your embelishments a bit more character.

We hope you enjoyed seeing what projects were made with this theme!  We'll be back with Part 2 tomorrow - there is just too much to cover in one post!  :)

Tutorial with Amy Tan: Let's Go to Brooklyn

15

Hi everyone - it's Amy Tan here. Excited to show you the step-by-step process behind a gallery layout called Let's Go to Brooklyn.

I started by gathering the photos and papers I wanted to use. These Instax photos are the perfect size and have a built in border on the print. I adhered the cluster together.

1

2

Then I took a white piece of cardstock and wrote the words "let's go". Using a paper piercer, I poked the holes for the stitching.

3

I back-stitched the letters using yellow thread.

4

I took my cluster and adhered it onto the white cardstock. I used some mists for the ink droplets.

5

6

Because I knew where I wanted my title, I spelled Brooklyn starting with the N.

7

8

I stamped the date onto a scrap piece of cardstock.

9

Wrote the journaling and added the "TO".

10

11

Decided I wanted to stitch the letters down using the sewing machine to sort of make them look underlined.

12

Then I got a bit carried away and decided to stitch a skyline.

13

I added New York state, which was the finishing touch.

14

15

Hope you enjoyed seeing the behind-the-scenes process of how this layout came together!

- Amy Tan

Today at Two Peas:

* A new batch of Garden Girl projects went up!

* There's a new episode of Memory Keeping Monday: I Miss Those Piggies with Jen Gallacher

Projects-80e6ab56-585f-422e-b973-209c4f950eb3-248cbefed4534cab895d47d883335b78

Today's edition of Get the Look is inspired by this layout from giniew.  Yellow and gray is such a hot color combination these days, adding a hint of aqua adds a cool splash of color.  Doilies, thread and pinked edges subtly reinforce her made-by-hand theme.  Here is how one might achieve giniew's look:

Getthelook520

1. In the Park Blue Paper 2. Hello Doily Paper 3. White Printed Chipboard Alphas  4. Aqua Foam Thickers  5.  Fabric Swatches 6. Bumblebee Twine 7. Scallop Large Punch 8. Pictures Indie Chic Stamp

We hope that inspires you to pull together your supplies or create a look of your own!  Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

Thisweek'schallenges

Hello and happy Saturday!  Looking for a new challenge, or maybe just some crafty eye candy? Well, you'll be glad you stopped by!

Weekly Scrap Challenge: Use a Bright Patterned Paper Background with Shannon

Projects-7e4baf88-89d2-4120-8d62-5e767860846d-139c838922e043ad8033209ab85b48d1
From Shannon, "I love patterned paper! Lately I've been reaching for more muted patterned papers for my backgrounds...this time I tried to push myself a little and went with a bright yellow background. It has a light chevron pattern that keeps it from being too overwhelming for the photos. Had it been a busy pattern I don't think it would have worked. I think the almost neon yellow makes my bright photos pop off the page though! Read more...

Your challenge: Use a bright patterned paper as your background!"

Weekly Photography Challenge: Outdoors with Wilna

Projects-e7340cfd-da25-49f0-b7ef-fa119c520acf-5e14d769e3ea4ba48618e0bf755e8056

From Wilna, "I don't know about you, but in the cold months I don't take as many pictures than in the warmer months... simply because inside light is not as natural and pretty as outside light!
So, today my challenge is to go outside and take some pictures! this time of the year there are puddles and blooms and lots of things to document!  I can't wait to see what you do! "

Saturday Card Sketch with Kimber

From Kimber, "I just received my latest purchase from Two Peas and I couldn't wait to dive in. I love these tags from Basic Grey and they are perfect for cards. Of course I am trying to use more washi tape in my cards since I couldn't resist buying them. You could easily use strips of pattern paper, cardstock or ribbon where I used washi tape with this sketch."

Amyheller_promo

Do you wish you could add more color to your scrapbooking projects? Have you ever wondered how to mix manufacturers' products and collections with ease? And let's talk about all those products you've been hoarding in your stash, ever wish you could learn to use more of those in your projects? Join Garden Girl Amy Heller as she teaches a color theory based workshop, 'Through the Kaleidoscope | Making Sense of Color 4 Scrapbooking' based on the principles of the color wheel.

As a graphic designer and former creative and art director by trade, Amy's experience in color has spanned not only from the crafting world, but over 10 years professional experience in the design of advertising, brand development and packaging. Over five chapters, she'll share 50 brand new scrapbook pages by her and her group of contributors. Each chapter contains a printable PDF containing beautiful color inspiration boards from daily life as well as from scrapbooking supplies for each of the principles and colors covered, as well as a coordinating video. Included is a handy, portable flip card set with each of the color theories covered as well as the full color wheel for taking to your next crop or simply having in your craft area for easy and convenient color reference.

Product Spotlight with Shannon Tidwell: Digikits for the Non-digi Scrapper

 Productspotlight

Hi Peas! This is Garden Girl Shannon Tidwell here today. I'm excited to share a few tips for getting the most out of Digi Kits...even if you aren't a Digi Scrapper! And goodness knows, I am not a digi scrapper. I've given it a try because I am so impressed with those girls...but it just doesn't flow the same for me as it does with paper and glue. But, that doesn't mean I can't enjoy Digi Kits for other things.
How many birthday invitations, announcements, or holiday cards do you send a year? I always want mine to have a handmade look...without having to actually hand make each one.  So I turn to theDigi Kits at TwoPeas and I always find something that will work perfectly with what I have in mind. And if I don't have anything in mind the ideas start flowing as soon as I start thumbing through all the kits.
Christmas Cards:

For years I have been using Digi Kits to create my own Christmas cards. I know that there are lots of cute pre-made ones that you can just upload your photo to...but I like to have something that is just mine. Plus, I can do it for less money!
Here is my Christmas card from 2011:

Take Note Alphabet-by Michelle Underwood
You can see that it's a relatively simple design. I wanted the photo to be the main focus. To help separate the flag banners from the photo I added just a touch of drop shadow.  (Click here for a tutorial on adding drop shadows).

Graduation Announcement:

I recently took some senior pictures for a friend's daughter. We ended up with so many good ones that we had to share more than one, or two, or three. So I told her we could make our own announcement desgin instead of uploading her photo to a pre-made one. By the way, I love this trend of sending whatever announcement you want instead of the boring ones from the school!  Wish that had been the case.... um....20 years ago.
Savannah side1-online

We used one large photo on the front and added the graduation details onto it. You can see that I used flags, labels, and tape strips for the base for the text. I played around with opacity and drop shadows to make it look like one cluster. Some things have a drop shadow, and some don't, that way a few blend into the background and the others pop off a bit.
Savannah side 2

We used the backside to house some of our favorite photos from the shoot. It was hard narrowing it down, but at least she got to include several. Then I added a fun little banner to the bottom because she's really excited about being a Razorback!

Camera Ready Collection- Page kit- by Michelle Underwood
A Spot in My Heart- by Shelley Castillo
Pea Soup February: Modish Bits- by Tickled Pink Studio
Pea Soup February: Modish Tape- by Tickled Pink Studio

Getting them Printed:

You have a lot of options on getting these printed. You can make your card any size you like, 4x6, 5x7...or 4x10, 4x8...depending on what your photo printer offers. If you aren't sure, talk to them! I create my cards in Photoshop and then Save As a Jpeg when it's finished. Then you can upload it just like a regular photo. For the graduation announcement since we wanted both sides printed we opted with an online printer that offered 5x7 flat front and back. They had a template for me to use to make sure that my image was the right size.
A few tips:
1. Leave a little room around the edge to allow for cut-off.
2. If I'm printing locally I usually have them print one first and then if it's okay order the full amount.
3. Ask them to turn off the auto color correct!!
4. Have someone double check spelling before you have it printed!
I encourage you to take a stroll through the Digi Shopping Section...you will be amazed at all there is!
Have a great day!
Shannon

Photo Collage Tutorial with Lisa Truesdell

Hey Peas! For this month's 2012 : Captured class, I'm talking about photos. Keeping up with Project Life means keeping up with a LOT of photos! Today, I've got a quick tutorial on creating a photo collage to use in your album. This is a technique I turn to whenever I have an event with a lot of photos - it's a fun way to get them all in without adding an insert or using a lot of pockets. I'm using Picasa for this how to - it's a free photo editing program that you can download here:  http://picasa.google.com/.

Photos1

Once you've loaded your photos into Picasa (go under file, then look for "add file to picasa"), click on "Create" then "Create Collage."
Photos2

In the settings window, select your collage type. I like the grid style, but play around with the other options and see what you like with your photos! You can switch this up at any point in the process.
Photos3

Click on "Clips" - this is where you'll pick which photos will go into your collage. Just select them and click the plus sign. If the photos you want to use aren't here, click on the get more photos and select the ones you want.
Photos4

Double check your print size - I like to do 4x6s so they'll fit in the pockets on my page.
Photos5

If you'd like to add a border between photos, use this slider. Just adjust it till the borders are the size you want.
Photos6

Once you're happy with how it looks, click create collage. This will save your work. Now you'll be able to print from Picasa, or you can use the "export" option under file to add it to a folder on your computer. You'll have a 4x6 photo that you can print at home or send to your favorite online printer!

Here's a few places that I've used collages in my album. You can use it as is, add embellishments, or even cut the photos apart and use them as small photos in your week.
And here's a peek at a collage in my week for the May class :
Collage

Once you've got the basics down, have fun playing with different settings and sizes. While the collage creator is great for Project Life, it would also be a quick and easy starting point for a multi photo layout, and a fun way to arrange photos for a blog post, too. I hope you enjoy using it!

Garden Theme Round Up: Mother's Day Cards

Gardenthemeroundup

Looking for some inspiration celebrating the special women in your life?  Mother's Day is right around the corner for us here in the States, and the Garden Girls have been busy creating cards.  Here are a few ideas - we love all the thoughtful touches!

Projects-95b0cfa9-7186-4bb5-86fd-b2c19693d542-83dc8725a4a647448aa4a3686f2278ea

All You Need by Kimber McGray

Kimber has pulled together multiple patterns to create a card that is bound to make the recipient smile.  Handrawn stitching and a cluster of buttons give the card a homespun look.  The Amy Tangerine stamp she's used can work for so many projects - just fill in the blank to suit your subject!

Projects-2fecadc8-76a7-4e30-8d3a-1fcbc8be48f4-5ed8ca66e0e444dab45629990c5a28c6

She Believed by Julie Campbell

A glittery photo corner, a splatter of dusty pink, hand-cut florals and sweet polka dots ... Julie's not left out one feminine detail!  The Heidi Swapp Instaframes bring all the elements together for a beautiful focal point.  One thing Julie loves about this card?  It's great for more than just Mother's Day!

Luv You Mom by Laura Craigie

I love that Laura used oranges, blues and greens - a color scheme we don't usually see for Mother's Day!  Her card gives us lots of accents and layers to explore, and encourages us to use up our supplies by creating a custom sentiment.

I've also done a little bit of digging in the archives for more Mother's Day inspiration.  Here are some past Garden projects worth checking out:

Product Spotlight with Wendy Sue Anderson

Productspotlight

Hi Peas!  It’s Wendy Sue Anderson here with you today – sharing one of my favorite tools available right now in the Two Peas shop.  With the coming of Spring, my mind has been focused on the beauty of my surroundings -  flowers and birds and butterflies.  Especially the butterflies.  I love watching butterflies fluttering from one tree to the next, floating along with such grace and beauty.  The warm weather is just beginning, but I know it is fleeting here in the mountains of Utah, so while I know I can only watch the “real thing” for a few months, I love being able to enjoy the beauty of butterflies all year round by adding them to my scrapbook pages and cards.  It seems I’m not alone – as I looked through the gallery, I found lots of my fellow Peas putting this fun butterfly punch to good use!

Butterflypunch

Here are a few of the fun examples I spotted in our gallery:

Example1

This fun layout, by Lisa Dickinson (aka buestardesign), incorporates the butterfly punch into a unique grid design.  I love how the butterfly isn’t necessarily the focus of her page, but the subtle addition of the butterflies add to the overall “happy” feeling of her layout.

Ex2

In this sweet layout, Megan Klauer uses a single butterfly punch to create two separate embellishments.  You can see the butterfly perched softly on the edge of the photo, but did you also notice how she used a butterfly punch as a mask for the gray stamped circle near the bottom?  I love finding ways to use tools that allow much more bang for your buck!

My fellow Garden Girls seem to be smitten by the butterfly punch as well – here are a few of their recent gallery postings featuring the butterfly:

Ex3

Amy Heller used a butterfly punch to create this fun row/border of butterflies on her card.  Isn’t it interesting how using patterned paper vs. solid paper can really make a difference with the end result?  And how fun is Amy’s method of attachment?  I love how she stitched, with colored thread, a straight line right through all of the butterflies – a great way to add a border to a project!

Ex4

Laura Craigie (justlulu) punched several butterflies and featured them on this fun card in one of her “Finally Friday” videos.  Combining the butterfly shapes with other images (such as the mason jar on this card) creates an entirely different feel than simply adding the butterfly alone.  I also like how Laura used the pretty crystals to enhance the body portion of the butterflies.

Ex5

And finally – who would have thought to add butterflies to a layout all about winter?!?  Well, Wilna, of course!  I love the white on white look – and adding the splash of misted color is the icing on the cake.  The butterflies are so subtle, yet they add such an element of warmth and femininity to Wilna’s layout. It’s like she just gave us all permission to try adding summer elements to our winter pages – perfection!

I had so much fun looking through the gallery, searching for butterfly punch inspiration.  It’s interesting to see how your view of certain projects (or products) can change when you are focusing on ONE element, rather than the overall design.  Our gallery is so full of such amazing inspiration – and searching through it is a great way to see how versatile one tool can be.

Thank you so much for joining me at the Two Peas in a Bucket blog today.  I hope you enjoyed a peek at these inspiring projects – and hopefully you’ll be motivated to try some of the ideas yourself!  Have a great day!

--Wendy Sue--

Make & Take with Shimelle: Maxing Out a Set of Supplies

Nsdmakeandtake

Projects-7c5eb33d-891f-45a1-99d0-92a1fcb3ad0a-bf9ccfaf1aed40188326d633303cd980

Happy NSD 2012!

To jumpstart my scrapbooking for this year's NSD celebrations, I put together my own kit of supplies from the Two Peas store, including ten patterned papers, a stamp set, two kinds of letter stickers, a few sheets of cardstock and some embellishments. You can find the exact contents of my kit below if you want to take on this very same challenge!

Then I challenged myself to see exactly how much I could get from using those supplies and nothing else other than a few basic tools. I didn't add any other paper or embellishments. I steered clear of my scrap basket and didn't touch any washi tape - it was a true challenge! In the end I had eight finished 12x12 pages and only a few small scraps of paper and some letter stickers left.

And you can watch the whole process if you like!

At the end of the video, I mentioned that when I scrap like this I often leave the pages overnight then add some finishing touches the next day. Most of what I added was machine stitching, with red thread. I also added a bit more embellishment to the pink layout with the oddball photo - a leftover scrap of border sticker, some number stickers and inspired by one of the NSD challenges, some confetti scattered in that corner. The confetti idea made me very happy indeed!

Have you ever chosen a set of supplies then scrapped until there was nothing left? I'd love to hear your ideas! Come chat about it with me on the general scrapping board!

Make & Take with Amy Tan

Nsdmakeandtake

Love how easy it is to finish a mini album from an event in just under a couple hours with these Daybooks. I decorated the cover first using some glitter tape, washi tape, a bit and a sticker. Though I didn't actually get in on a plane for the show, I thought it was a good way to indicate that people had traveled west to attend.  Grab your Daybook or mini album, a stack of pictures and let's create!  Here is how my Make & Take came together:

Cha_1b

I had the business cards sitting in the front pocket of the book, in a safe place.

Cha_2

Once I got the photos printed from Shutterfly, I started putting stuff together. I also had some Instax photos taken at CHA I wanted to include.

Cha_3

I added journaling to tell the overall story of the event.

Cha_3

Then I added embellishments, photos and stickers to the pages.

Cha_5

Cha_6
Cha_28

Washi tape is great for business cards that are double sided. I adhered along one edge so the card could still be flipped open.

Love how these knock out border punches from American Crafts can add a lot of interesting details.

I was able to put most of the business cards into the book, but some of the others just stayed in the front pocket.

Make & Take with Lisa Truesdell

Nsdmakeandtake

Hi Peas! I'm excited to be sharing a make and take here with you today for National Scrapbook Day! I'm loving the current triangle trend, and wanted to put it to work on a very graphic card. Here's the how to on how to make your own triangle background with your Silhouette - this will work for pages or cards. I'll also share ideas at the end for how to get a similar look without a digital cutting machine.

Nsdcard1

Open Silhouette Studio and make rectangle the size you want your background to be. Then look for the polygon tool. Once you select it, just click and drag to make your lines - play around with it for a bit and you'll find it's really easy to use! I used the grid markings to help me make an even triangle.
Nsdcard2

Once you have one triangle drawn, right click and use the copy & paste feature to make more! Line them up in a row.
Nsdcard3

To speed things up, I made one row, and then used copy & paste on that instead. Fill your entire background with triangles.
Nsdcard4

When your background is full, delete the outer line - then load your paper and cut your design!
Nsdcard5

I loved the tone on tone look of my neutral patterned paper and off white cardstock, but decided to back a few of the triangles with patterned paper and overlays for a bit of an accent.
Nsdcard6

I can't finish a project without a little machine stitching, so I sewed across each row of triangles.
Nsdcard
To finish the card, I added some washi tape, a button & heart pin, and a stamped + chipboard letter sentiment. The triangle background is a strong enough look to carry the card without a lot of extra touches.
Now, I know some of you haven't jumped on the Silhouette bandwagon. I totally love my Cameo, but it wasn't that long ago that i was looking at projects using a digital diecutting machine and wishing I could get the same look! So, I wanted to end this tutorial with a few tips on getting a similar look using just your paper trimmer. Just use your paper trimmer to cut a 1/2in wide strip of cardstock or patterned paper in a similar tone to your background. Next, cut that strip into 1/2in wide pieces - so you have squares. Use your scissors to cut each square across the middle into two triangles. Arrange on your card in the same pattern as my Silhouette cut, and add in a few accent triangles. stitch over them and add embellishments to finish the card. I used this method to make the triangles on my bunny ears layout in the garden - it's a quick and easy way to bring in this fun and trendy shape!
I hope you all have an awesome NSD - and I'd love to see your spin on my make & take!

- Lisa

NSD Challenge #1 with Becky Novacek - A color challenge of your choice!

NSD Challenge #1 with Becky Novace - a

Hi Peas! I hope everyone is set for an inspiring and productive scrapbooking weekend, celebrating National Scrapbook Day! I'm going to try to squeeze in a little time to enjoy the festivities at 2peas, as well as in my own little studio.

I love a color challenge! The challenge that I'm giving you today, can be approached in two different ways. But first, here's the inspiration image:

Option 1: Aren't the colors yummy? You can be inspired directly by this image. Use the colors that I've combined and show us what you come up with!  Very straightforward.

Option 2: If you want to get really creative and use this as an exercise to really stir up your mojo, gather things in your house to come up with your own combo. Here's my challenge: Grab one vintage item (suitcase), one or two natural items (lemons and avocados), one home decor item (pillow) and one crafty item (ribbon).

I can't wait to see what you come up with! Make sure to upload your color challenge project noting that it's for NSD and in your description tell us about which option you chose and how it went.

Thanks for participating! - Becky

NSD Challenge #2: Make It Yours

NSD Challenge #2

There are so many papercrafting products that allow us to make something "ours."  We can alter chipboard, canvas, paper, alphabets - the list goes on! - to create custom accents perfect for our projects.  This is a great way to make our projects completely unique to us.  Kristina recently tweeted an Instagram of the way she's altering our new Studio Calico embellishments to make them fit her style:

Have fun creating your own custom embellishments!

NSD Challenge #7 with Jen Gallacher: Create with polaroids

NSD Challenge #7

Welcome to another National Scrapbook Day Challenge! I'm Jen Gallacher, and I'm hosting this challenge today. Hopefully by now, you're sitting in your scrapbook room getting lots of projects completed over the weekend. I'm planning on attending a crop with my sister who introduced me to this fabulous hobby in the first place.

This challenge was inspired by the very popular trend of the "Polaroid." When I was growing up, I thought they were the coolest cameras EVER! How amazing was it to take a photo and then see instantly how it turned out? Now we have digital cameras and our kids can't imagine waiting for a photo to be developed to see themselves on camera.

Here are some amazing projects from the gallery that use a "Polaroid" product:

I love how Sarah uses the new Heidi Swapp colored Polaroid frames by machine stitching them to her page.

I also love how Audrey stamped a framed scene for a very cool card!

Here are some of my favorite "Polaroid" products from the 2Peas store:

Polaroid Stamp from "Stamping Bella":

The grey Polaroid Frame from this digital collection kit by "Stamp Originals":

And here's an "oldie" of mine in which I created using a "Polaroid" die cut shape cut with my Silhouette machine:

Challenge: Create a layout or card using a "Polaroid" frame or product as a highlight on your page. Upload it to the gallery, making sure to check the correct challenge box.

I can't wait to see what you create using "Polaroids." I just know I'm going to be inspired! - Jen

NSD Challenge #8

This challenge was inspired by a recent trend we're seeing - using the negative of a design and putting a layer beneath it!  Whether you use a die cutting machine, punch or an exacto knife to create your look, the results are not only fun and unexpected, but a great way to help make your supplies go further!  Here are a few examples from Garden Girls Jill, Lisa & Wilna (just click the images to see the full page):

This Week's Challenges 4.5.2012

Thisweek'schallenges

Ready for a new round of challenges?  Between our regularly scheduled weekly challenges and the National Scrapbooking Day festivities we having going on, there are a lot to choose from! Just click on each challenge below for details on how to enter.

Weekly Scrap Challenge: Color Combo with Jen Gallacher

Projects-b7d1d4c0-e0d2-4672-8ef2-4fa7c5410b60-8ddf6427c663433dbf9d3810099a061f

From Jen, "I am loving the earthy tones I am seeing everywhere. This was very much inspired by the colors scheme in Lisa Truesdell's "Memory Keeping Monday" project HERE.

I used the negative leftover scrap of a die cut shape I cut with my Silhouette machine. Sometimes I'll keep scraps of other projects on my desk because they inspire me to do something new.

Challenge: Use these colors to create your own layout."

Photography Challenge: Collections with Jill Sprott

Projects-eb85cd12-28f9-46d5-a430-43e2030640cb-4a1b3b48419c42d390e111b9d532fb25

From Jill, "We in the scrapbooking world often joke about our hoarding habits, but collecting is a whole different story. It involves sifting through the chaos and seeking patterns within it. It's about locating, organizing, displaying/storing, and holding dear that which makes our heads and hearts happy. We all collect something, I'm sure. Since I was a kid, I've collected stamps, though not in any systematic way. A hard-core philatelist I am not. I'm drawn to their pretty colors and designs, to their histories and their meanings. Whenever I see a stamp on an envelope, I tear it off and save it in a collection that I've amassed through the years.

THE CHALLENGE: Photograph a collection, whatever it may be -- stamps, books, cookie cutters, watches, wooden spoons, sunglasses, troll dolls, vinyl records, old Tiger Beatposters...oh, the possibilities!" ...continued

Saturday Card Sketch with Kimber 5.5.2012

Satsketch55

From Kimber, "This card all started with the Pink Paislee pattern paper. I thought the papers were soft enough for a baby card without using soft pastels. I then mixed a little bit of Lily Bee pattern paper, Pebbles stamp and American Crafts button along with some Jillibean baker's twine.

I stamped the whale image on the ledger pattern paper and then again on the blue/grey dot paper. I cut out the stamped blue/grey whale and pop dotted it on the ledger paper. This added a lot of dimension."

This Week's Class Videos 5.4.2012

Thisweeksclassvideos

Who's glad it's Friday?  We are pretty excited as the week winds down for our National Scrapbook Day festivities we have planned beginning tomorrow.  We hope you'll join us!

Now it's time to take a look back on what classes + videos went live on Two Peas.  Enjoy!

Memory Keeping Monday: Pink Fish by Shannon Tidwell

Projects-818d3f33-eec6-476d-90a3-d26b258b8077-ffc85806a9624c559559cf95eef82bc6

From Shannon, "This month one of our themes was florals. I decided to get a little crafty on my layout this week. Since working on my workshop materials I've noticed that I'm a lot more aware of inspiration around me. When I see something I like I ask myself why I like it...and how could I incorporate it on to my page. The inspiration for this layout came from one of my daughters barrettes. I was planning on making more for her instead of buying them....and once I got started thought they would be cute on a page. And 15 even cuter!

You can watch the video for the easy instructions on how to make the little tulle flowers as well as watch the layout come together.

As with each Memory Keeping Monday video there is a CHALLENGE. This week your challenge is to create a flower on your layout whether it's with paper, tulle, fabric, tape, ribbon, etc.... I can't wait to see how creative you are!"

From Shimelle, "This week Glitter Girl explores options with current travel-themed supplies, something currently being discussed here [twopeasinabucket.com] on the General Scrapbooking message board. This week her adventure takes her through the shop for travel papers and embellishments then onto a travel scrapbook page that can be completed in a flash, perfect for making a dent in a big stack of travel photos!

Looking for more travel inspiration? Here are some of my favourite travel bookmarks from the Two Peas community: onetwothreefourfivesix and two travel journal projects of my own: onetwo

Come along for the adventure, won't you?

This week, Glitter Girl challenges you to scrapbook a travel memory in any style you like, then share the results in the gallery! Don't forget to tick the box for the Glitter Girl challenge in step four of the uploading process. Let's flood the gallery with travel pages this week!"

From Laura, "Well, it's my week for Finally Friday again and I had so much fun making my card! I have a washi tape addiction like so many of you and decided to use a bunch of it on my card today.  It's super colorful, and cute, perfect for my little niece. The patterned papers I used are from Bella Blvd, and Basic Grey. The chipboard and stickers are also from Bella Blvd, and the jewels (love!) are by Prima.

Thanks for watching my video, I'd love to hear what you think, and I challenge you to make a card with some Washi Tape on it!! :)"

That's a wrap for this week's classes and videos.  I hope you enjoyed the as much as I have.  And don't forget to join us this weekend as we celebrate National Scrapbook Day!

Announcing Pieces of Me Workshop with Maggie Holmes & Studio Calico

Shop page1

We're excited to announce we've teamed up with Studio Calico to bring you this exclusive mini album workshop taught by Maggie Holmes!

Shop page2

Create a unique mini album designed to capture what YOU are all about. The album will be full of pockets, envelopes and bags -- places for you to collect and save little pieces of life that are descriptive of you. Think of those to-do lists, receipts, tickets, tags and the like that capture a snapshot of you and your life.  What is a mini album without photos?  Take some time to turn the camera on yourself, your environment and the little things that make you tick. Once your project is complete, you will be full of ideas and inspiration that will leave you itching to make a similar book for all of your loved ones. No matter how many Pieces of Me albums you create, they will be unique, interesting, and fun keepsakes you will cherish for years to come!

Limited time offer:

Lisa

(Album available June 1st when workshop may be accessed.)

This workshop will be available for download on June 1st.  The lessons, which will include videos, PDFs, samples and contributor projects, will be available for you to work at your own pace and can be accessed in the "Workshops" section under "Classes & Events." A private message board forum will also be available to ask questions for Maggie and to connect with other participants.

2ps kit

Pieces of Me Workshop Class Kit is the perfect partner to follow along with Maggie and is available here in the Two Peas store. Purchase now to receive before the Workshop starts on June 1st.

See you in class!
