10 Tips for Scrapbooking Love

10tipsforscrapbookinglove

The end of February is upon us!  As we anticipate the next Garden Girl project release March 1st, we've compiled a list of 10 helpful tips from this past month's projects.  This list isn't just for lovebirds though; it's for anyone who has love in their heart to scrap!

1. USE PRODUCTS THAT INDICATE A PAIR.  Think potty people icons, lovebirds, the number 2... If your subject is not a couple, but perhaps the love you have for your family, try the number of people in your household or an icon of a home.

Projects-924b6395-3544-4306-9f5f-b8997f2658f1-73665afa108f4dd4a302ae6c192fce22

2. SCRAP ABOUT SOMETHING YOU HAVE IN COMMON.  What interests and hobbies do you share with the one(s) you love?  Or perhaps you are polar opposites, but have the same values.  These sorts of things help tell our stories!

Shimelle has documented the passion she and her husband have for embarking on adventures, while Melissa records a favorite movie.

3. CHOOSE PRODUCTS THAT REFLECT YOUR SUBJECT'S TASTE AND STYLE.  Amy Tan combines masculine and hip patterns for this layout about the loves in her life. (Don't forget your pets!)

4. DOCUMENT A LOVING GESTURE.  Scrap about the surprises or meaningful gifts you've given or received.  Lisa recorded her efforts to commemorate Valentines Day by photographing and scrapping the treats she gave her kids.

5.  GO HEART CRAZY!  What could better aid in documenting love than the timeless heart shape?

6.  PAST AND PRESENT These comparisons help tell the stories of how we've grown, changed, and evolved, as well as what we've experienced with the ones we love.  Laura Craigie combines a photo from a past with a recent snapshot and reflects on the years that have passed since she and her husband first fell in love.

7.  SCRAP ABOUT A CRUSH.  Tell the story of your own first crush or perhaps about how your child is smitten over a classmate.  Nancy Damiano made the start to her son's Valentines note the title of her page:

Dear Alyson by Nancy

8.  FIND THE WORDS TO SAY IT  Put your feelings onto paper for your loved ones to be reminded of again and again.  Look to song lyrics, poems, sayings or even greeting card messages for help if you're needing a push articulating your emotions.

Elizabeth and Lexi have made their messages the titles for their layouts:

Projects-c4f40277-5c5d-49a8-8e99-b41d50cd9832-2bf847a60a0543c1942a5fc5a87e7b20

If you'd like to keep your thoughts more private tuck hidden journaling into a pocket like Marcy:

9. SCRAP ABOUT AFFECTION  Photograph and journal the snuggles, smooches and hugs you share.  Lilith has scrapped about holding hands with her hubby:

Hold My Hand by Lilith

10.  PICK UP YOUR CAMERA Your layouts centered around love don't have to use photos that already exist.  Are you without a picture from an event or special day?  Take one that will help capture your story.

Wilna and Jen have taken portraits of their subjects, while Kristina snapped a photo of her and Jeffrey making a heart with their hands.

Projects-721fad95-e559-432a-bd1b-82776e5c0367-7de092370bf54479b450fadb3973c78d

Trends Watch: In This House...

Df6536c01151421cb514fa1c566616fa

You may have seen the popular "family rules" word art while clicking through the web.  We love how these displays of family values can be works of art in one's home.  We've seen it on everything from decorative pillows to staircases to pallets.  It's no wonder we're seeing it in layouts as well!

Projects-ae095245-9c1f-451c-ad20-afa3f9c9307a-7b01b02ae2884010a44b39e14a6a5e8b

Garden Girl Lynn Ghahary played with a stamp similar to this one by Studio Calico to create a prominent design on her layout, giving weight to her adorabe black and white family photo.

Projects-f4021649-237f-4a53-8ffa-a9ef58d35373-bc56ece5b56b49c6a409ae6c5115db3d

Amy Heller had a similar idea, but put her Silhouette machine to work to create a colorful title that balances the arrangement of small photos displayed on miniature hangers.

Projects-0eab0fcf-9360-40d8-ac76-6fb1fc04a7a2-e46f34c5632f4765813eb8044126b68b

If stamping or die-cutting isn't your thing, you can still achieve a big-impact title with letter stickers like scrappygirljenni did here.  A family portrait is a perfect accompanying photo for a saying like this one.

And finally, here are a few favorite products that help tell the story of family and home. You'll notice the design of this stamp and this stamp were inspired by this trend!  See our entire selection tagged with "home" here.

Inthishouse

What about you?  Have you played with this word art trend in your home or in your papercrafting?

Pinterest to Page with Paige

Hi, my name is Paige, and I’m addicted to Pinterest! I could spend hours every day scrolling through all of the amazing creations, recipes, painted fingernails, different hairstyles, and done-up celebrities. But my favorite part about Pinterest is the inspiration it provides me for my scrapbooking! Lately I’ve been into quilts and have made a few pages based on quilts I’ve found on Pinterest (keep reading to see!). And most recently, for my first Scrap Your Stash video, I came across this image:

Lltw_10

I was immediately drawn to the woven lines of paint and thought, “Hey! I want to try that with paper strips!” And so, I based my layout on this Pinterest image and here’s what I came up with:

Cool Like a Fox by Paige Evans

Instead of paint I used paper strips and wove them diagonally, just like the image. It made a fun and dynamic background for my pair of photos of my son Fox in a shirt that says “Cool Like a Fox”. BONUS – all of the Ready Set Go products by Amy Tangerine/American Crafts are 25% off!

Here are a couple more examples of images I’ve found on Pinterest and how I interpreted them:

I LOVE that triangles are trendy right now and they’re so easy to make with a square punch or paper cutter – just cut the square in half diagonally!

Pool-1378510@N24

I used the Soho Garden line by American Crafts to make this layout based on the Pinterest image:

Fox & Jane

And finally, another quilt, and what do you know, triangles again!

197665871115663039

Here is the layout I made inspired by this image, using all brand new Elle’s Studio product from the You & Me line:

Uncle Eric

I hope you’ve been inspired by my Pinterest finds and would love to see some of your layouts that you’ve made based on images found on Pinterest!

p.s. Don't forget our Art Class giveaway is still open!

Scrap Downton Abbey Style

Scrapindowntonabbeystyle

Are you a fan of Downton Abbey?  We not only enjoy the storyline of this popular period drama, but are inspired by its delicate fashions, lavish gardens, tinkering teacups and stately setting.  Here is how one might achieve a "Downton Abbey style" for their scrapbooking:

Trend Watch: Chalkboards

Chalkboards are huge right now.  Chalkboard walls in homes, intricate chalkboard art and chalkboard speech bubbles just to name a few.  (Raise your hand if you have a chalkboard wall in your home.  ;)

Screen Shot 2013-02-08 at 6.14.04 PM

And, like all trends it's starting to make it's way into the scrapbooking world.  Glitz Design just released some chalkboard themed papers at the last CHA.  I love these and can't wait for projects using these papers to start showing up in the gallery.

Screen Shot 2013-02-08 at 6.12.43 PM

Pebbles includes chalkboard speech bubble stickers in their Seen & Noted line.  I definately need to get a white pen so I can journal on these.

Screen Shot 2013-02-08 at 6.14.53 PM

The trend is even showing up on washi tape... like this roll from Freckled Fawn.

Screen Shot 2013-02-08 at 6.15.57 PM

Echo Park has released a Project Life friendly line called Today's Story that includes chalkboard journaling and accent cards.

Screen Shot 2013-02-08 at 6.15.40 PM

And if you're a digi scrapper your choices are even more abundant.  :)

Now what about taking this trend right onto the cover of your projects like scrappfever did?

Projects-6f1b449c-02d1-488c-85bd-41ee648518aa-108292939845408b9736f19cb21b4d72 (1)

Or translating it onto the background of a page?  waisam was inspired by Garden Girl Wilna's layout in her video for the In the Mood video series when she created this page.

Projects-2fe97489-1db7-42d6-913d-de38a04fb4c1-5800b27ef6bd4da395d6bf68c86245e6

So, while chalkboard art is a relatively new trend in the scrapbooking world I think it's just starting to make it's presense known.

How about you?  Have you been inspired by this trend yet?

Metallic Love with Laura Craigie

I have a tiny obsession with metallics, I think they join perfectly with so many other colours that adding a pop of Silver, Bronze, Gold, etc just makes such an wonderful addition to a project.

I made this card with some product from the new Uncharted Waters line by Glitz, and pulled the Gold from the sticker and added Gold mist droplets to the card, as well as some Silver tape.

Member Spotlight: Midwesterngirl + Art Class Giveaway Winner!

Today we're pleased to shine the spotlight on the inspiring scrapbooker midwesterngirl!  We love her strong use of type and her restraint to use just the right embellishments on her pages.  Here's a look at a few layouts that caught our eye:

Projects-a45903b7-966c-44d5-a8e7-8455133859ca-8cc49e92f23347b4aa43e476e2d0a325

She believed... The colors on this page have us dreaming of sunshine and cool blue waters!  The white-on-white embellishments, subtle stitching and ombre title make this page one you might just want to scraplift.

Home The map and text work have a lot going on, but in a very good way!  This is one page I'd stop and stare at a little longer if I were flipping through an album.

Where I Stand  The washi tape strips make a perfect photo mat and the title over the photo is awesome.

Instax  A happy little stack of different textures and papers draw your eye right in to the center and subject of this page - her Instax camera.

No Photo Love the big bold stripes and grey/yellow color scheme on this page.

Like the style you see?  Check out the rest of midwestergirl's gallery here and enjoy!

Get to Know: Céline Navarro

Gettoknowceline

We are thrilled to welcome Céline Navarro to the Two Peas Garden Girl team!  Céline has a rich history of creating beautiful things and telling her stories.  We can't wait to see what she creates as she contributes to our 213 in 2013 video series and our monthly Garden project release.  Here is a little about this talented designer as well as a sneak of what she has coming up to share:

Screen Shot 2013-02-12 at 10.52.11 AM

---

About me: My name is Céline Navarro, I'm 31 years old, I was born and raised in French, from a Spanish dad and a French mom. I live in the South of France, in Provence (imagine lavenders, olive tress and the Mediterranean Sea).

I've got a Master Degree in Foreign Languages and another Master Degree in Photography & Arts.

I've been teaching Scrapbooking and Mixed Media classes since 2004, in France, Europe and everywhere in the world. I've been lucky to travel to South Africa, Singapore, Brazil, Panama, the USA, Canada, Israel, Australia, New Caledonia, and everywhere in Europe to teach classes! Isn't that crazy? I know, I just can't realize how lucky I am.

I'm the owner of a French Scrapbook magazine and a website called {entreARTistes, since 2008.

I've always been playing with crafty stuff : I had a lot of penpals when I was a teenager and we were trading Decos at that time (like an art journal, with our name and address on it), I've always loved Photography, owning a camera since I was a child.

I'm a travel addict too. I'm always searching for a new place to visit, new people to meet, new languages to hear, new perfumes to smell, new culture to soak in. I've got a very curious temper, I guess.

About my family: Damien and I have been together for 12 years now. We don't have kids yet, but we can consider our two cats, June and Elvis, as our furry babies.

About my style: My style is freestyle, simple, colorful, design, but always with a twist and a bit of mist. I love textures, colors, mixing products and testing new things. I'm not afraid of messing up : we can always hide the mess with a sticker, right?

My top 5 papercrafting essentials: Hmmm... I would say : Mists / My Sewing Machine / Gesso / Papers / Thickers

On any given day you might find me: scrapping with my friend Isa and my mom, chatting, having a coffee, eating candies and chocolate bars :)

Welcome Céline!  You can follow Céline online from her blog, Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, and Instagram.  Look for a new project from her next Monday, February 18th, in the Video section of Two Peas. You're going to be inspired!

Little valentine boxes... by wilna

Hi Peas...

With Valentine only a few days away, I want to share a little gift idea. Decorating little boxes for treats, mini albums or other little things for Valentines.

LILboxes-3

I have a bunch of 5x7 little white boxes and decided to paint them. This image inspired me. Still inspired by the project I did for In the mood to scrap, I painted 3 different shades of pink and a brush stroke of glitter.

LILboxes-1

The glitter is actually just white craft glue mixed with glitter and then I sprinkled some additional gold ontop. You can also paint with glue and sprinkle some glitter on top. I wanted the glitter brush stroke to match the other 3's brush qualities.

LILboxes-4

I used my Silhouette Cameo and cut LOVE (using the font pacifico) 11 times (that's how many boxes I made) and adhered it on top with a hot glue gun. I finished it off with some Paper Raffia ribbon and a die cut heart.

Now you are ready to steal some hearts for Valentines.

If you love techniques like this, have a look at my art class. :)

Love, wilna furstenberg
