Weekly Challenge: Scrap Something You Enjoy Doing

Tracy Miller's challenge this week is so cool, I had to make a post about it!

First of all, the design kicks some serious you know what!  I love how she used the scalloped cardstock.  I love the grid to divide the cute photos of her favorite creations.  I also think it's cool that she has another hobby she loves.  I've never had a hobby other than scrapbooking that has stuck....after the point of buying all the supplies.:)  So if you do have other hobbies make sure to make a scrapbook page about it!  Great challenge, Tracy!

Jamie's Layout of the Day - Awwwww!

Did everyone go see the new layout of the day? Its was done by Jamie Waters and the topic is so stinking adorable. It made me smile this morning.
That husband of hers is such a sweetie. I cant believe he writes and leaves her little love notes like that when he goes to work, etc. Its so freaking adorable! Someone else's dh does that too - is it Emily Falconbridge's? I know Ive seen a similarly themed page in the garden. What great husbands!
Matt (my dh) is an awesome guy. I honestly feel very lucky with him as my husband, but he has NEVER done something like this. I think I would fall out of my chair if he left me a cute little love note like this.
So sweet.

What was the first photo you took this year?

The photography challenge for this week was to take a photo on the 1st of the year.

For example, for the past 3 years the first photos I've taken on January 1st have been of my kids (bedhead and all, against one of the walls in our bedroom.)

So I'd love it if you'd share YOUR first photos with us!

Check out this photography challenge here.

PS. If you're interested in improving your photography, we're starting a class next week (Monday, January 6th) called "12 Weeks to Better Photos" right here on 2peas!

Challenge: Name That Paper!

This month's Paper Piecing Article (right HERE in the Garden!) ..............

Has a thumbnail with 25 scraps of paper that I punched out with my trusty Fiskars Squeeze Punch...can you name the brands of all those papers? Post your guesses here in the comments section! Those Peas that get it right will have their name put in a drawing for a free DW 2008 Calendar to start off the New Year!

You have until the 15th (the next Garden update!) to post your guesses!

Simply Copy/Paste this form below to help you list your answers; papers listed go in rows from top to bottom, and squares from left to right respectively.

ROW 1
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

ROW 2
6.
7.
8.
9.

ROW 3

ROW 4

ROW 5

25.

Here are some Hints to get you started!

1. 23 are from different brands (though some may have the same parent manufacturer).
2. So, it follows that 2 are from the same brand.
3. Some brands still exist, some don't.
4. The earliest copyright I could find on the label was 2003. (Bonus point if you can tell us which one!)

GOOD LUCK!

A Favorite from this month's garden.

This page by Chelsea was definitely a favorite of mine this month.  I loved the photo so much!  I love how Chelsea's daughter looks so carefree and fun loving running at the camera. Its so typical of children isnt it? You dont see many adults expressing that kind of freedom and joy in pictures. I loved the color of the photo too. It looks like my memories of childhood. Whenever I think back on growing up in the 70s, my memories have that yellow/orange cast. Looks warm and nostalgic. It feels like home.  I also think the transparent look of the sky in the photo and the text on the bottom border look fantastic. You just cant seem to get that same look in paper scrapbooking.

And then I realized something.  I looked super close at  this page and I think that pier is located 10 minutes from my house! Im not sure. I could be mistaken, but that pier looks like the Oceanside pier!

Im not a digi scrapper. Its something I'll probably never really get into - not because I dont think its cool, but because I dont have the skill or patience to learn computer generated design.  But when I see pages that are digi Im always fascinated and drawn to them.  This page stayed in my head for a while after seeing it. I think its brilliant.

On First Glance

Thank you for your kind words, Tracy!

The first layout I noticed while looking at the Garden this morning is this one by Jamie Waters. The photo pulled me in right away, of course, and I love it not only for its size but for the evening scene, the blur of traffic, and the beautiful architecture of the building. In addition, the "splat" on the upper right-hand side of the layout pulls my eye upward toward the title & date, and I love how Jamie used that detail to enhance her page.

Kelli Crowe...you've done it again!

I think this layout of Kelli's is brilliant!

She has such a great sense of humor and it really comes out in the fun and playful way that she scraps. Plus her boys are hilarious!

1st of the Month (year)!

I thought it would be fun to highlight a layout from one of the other garden girls and write what I like about it. Hopefully some of the other girls will log in and join me in pointing out their faves.

I love this layout by Joanna Bolick. It makes me smile for a number of reasons. First of all, I'm an Apple addict, so the layout speaks to me of that awesomeness. Secondly, I just love the sentiment. We hear so many negatives about technology sometimes, it's a nice reminder of how technology can, and does, really keep us in touch with the people we love. Finally, the reverse cut Apple is just the perfect, elegant touch. Steve Jobs would be proud! - Tracy
