Product Spotlight: Hero Arts Stamps

Good Morning, Peas! I am drinking mugs of hot coffee, stitching up some last minute gifts and eating Christmas cookies. Doesn't get any better than this :)

I am going to spotlight one of my favorite products (well, actually a bunch of my faves) from Hero Arts.

Alice W. created this adorable card that caught my eye in the gallery this morning:

Using a stamp similar to the one above...isn't it so sweet? (the card and the stamp!)

I also love this stamp. How cute to make a card using it when you give a coffee gift card!

I also plan to use this set in the near future. My daughter is really into princesses!

and oh my! I can't wait to give this little guy a birthday hat atop his head :)

This adorable set is also on its way to my house right now. Perfect for my summer lake photos!

There are hundreds more stamps I that I NEED....

be sure to check out the shopping area to see all the Hero Arts goodies for yourself!

I hope you have a wonderful and peaceful holiday!

Photography Challenge Discussion

Hi all,

This weeks Photography Challenge has me wishing for snow but instead it's gearing up to being a hot summer in Australia.  So thanks to Sande for the challenge and making me want a  winter Christmas!

This week's challenge is to take a picture of something "cold" or something that says "Christmas" to you.

Here's a few of Sande's ideas:

icicles

snow covered scene

boxes of tissue because you have a cold

snow removal

frosted windows

snowman

sledding

presents stacked up

a holiday tradition (that's what I did)

decorations

lights

a holiday event

a table set for festive dining

a holiday dish (of food)

your favorite store to shop at...

Sande has some cool photos about traditions... check them out here

Here's a  photo from me....a  cold carpark!  Love Chelsea

share your space

hey everyone,

mooner363 here with this month's share your space. honestly, i was really hoping to have my new space done by the time i had to post this, but unfortunately, it's still not quite finished. but that doesn't mean i can't show you what i've done so far...

we decided to renovate the attic back in october and this is what it looked like:

as you can see, it was completely unfinished and the insulation was just going up. in a few more weeks, we put up the drywall...

and then the paint. i chose a granny smith apple green for the accent wall color and kept the rest of the walls a nice bright neutral

then the flooring went in along with the trim work and lights:

and right now, the table tops have been put in and this is going to be my main work table:

so my husband and i are going to ikea today to find some inexpensive storage and shelving units and then all i have to do is move all my stuff up there.

but i have a lot of stuff.

:)

that may take another few months to complete.

have a great day everyone!

-moon

Weekly Challenge Discussion - SNOW!!!

Good morning pea land!!  AND happy Friday! heee!  Jen Johner here today. :)  For us, today is the last day of school before the holidays begin, and I can NOT wait!  This weeks challenge is all about SNOW!  Here is what I wrote along with my challenge and layout that went up today...

OK, so this challenge is a wee bit easier for me than it might be for others.. considering here in Northern Alberta, there is usually a huge abundance of it for a good part of the year! lol  ..at least it feels like it!

If you are lucky enough to live where there is no snow.. put a spin on your challenge, and scrap about that! ..snow sports, love snow, hate snow, snow clothes (I looove snow clothes heee!) ...so many options really!  ..and with all of the seasonal scrappy products (both paper and digi) out right now, it is the perfect time!  SO yeah.. scrap about snow, use a picture with snow... let's see some white winter love! ;)

Can't wait to see what you come up with!

These photos are from a few years ago now.. but I still looove them, I love the warmer days of winter when we can go out and enjoy it!!  I decided to go digi on this one because these 'snow kissed' kits were a perfect match for these!  Loooove the 'snow kissed alpha' by the way.. such a great kit!

Again, if you are one of the lucky ones who don't have to deal with snow and all that comes with it.. feel free to put any creative spin on this that you like... think outside the box!  AND, if you live in the snow for a good part of the year like I do.. then easy peasy.. but still feel free to put a spin on it!  Today, if I was to scrap about snow.. it might be about how much I dislike it! ha ha!  I really do have a love/hate relationship with winter! lol

Can't wait to see your wonderful creations!!  Have a great weekend!!

Jen :)

CHALLENGE: Create a holiday tag. Simply upload a creation for this challenge to the TwoPeas gallery, select this Finally Friday video when you upload your image, and your creation will be linked up the challenge and appear at the bottom of this week's Finally Friday page.

Organizational Tip!

Good Morning!

One of my most coolest organizational tips is for my acrylic stamps.

A few years ago, I was at CHA with Fontwerks.  My sweet friend (and former GG), Maria Grace Abuzman, brought along some of her acrylic stamps to make demos.  When she pulled them out of her bag, I was in awe.  She pulled out these clear, compact, cases that housed her stamps...

CD Jewel cases!!!   It was like an "Oprah ah-ha" moment!  Immediately after the show, I returned to my scraproom and pulled out all of my acrylic stamps, searched the garage for all my old CD's, and got to work!  By removing the CD booklets and the thin piece of plastic that the CD snaps on to, you have perfect space to put stamps on the inside of each side of the case.

Within an hour or so, I had my stamps all wonderfully organized and stored away in the perfect size basket.   This method of storing my stamps is so quick and easy.  If I want a particular stamp, I just thumb through the basket, pull out the CD case and open.  Easy as that :)

Thanks so much for looking!

Weekly Digital Challenge: Blending photos with transparency

This week's digital challenge is to use your opacity adjustments to blend a photo into your background. This technique is a great way to include an oversized photo without making it dominate the layout. I used the same photo twice on this layout - once blended with a ledger photo mat and again as the main focus of the layout. I love the tones and soft neutrals of the photo so I used that to guide my color choices to create a calm and peaceful layout. This digital technique can be great for hybrid layouts as well - print a photo on a subtly patterned paper for a cool effect!

If you participate in this week's challenge, be sure to click the challenge checkbox to be included in the weekly drawing for a 2Peas gift certificate and be sure to stop by our weekly chat on Tuesday - hope to see you then!

Seasonal Theme Discussion: Holidays

Nichol Magouirk here with this month's seasonal theme discussion.

It's that time of year again where the halls are decked, the sleigh bells are ringing and the Garden pages are beginning to look a lot like Christmas. It's a super busy time but take a few minutes to relax, sit back with a cup of coffee or hot chocolate or tea and check out some of the inspiring Holiday ideas the Garden Girls created this month.

The first three layouts below feature some sort of ornament hanging down. They all immediately caught my eye.

Check out this one by Erica Hernandez that focuses all on journaling.

And this one by Gennifer Bursett. Two different takes on the same digital kit. I love that neither has photos. Such a good reminder that photos aren't always necessary to create a beautiful and meaningful layout!

And how about this layout from Wendy Bretz: she used a sheet of patterned paper from Little Yellow Bicycle that showcases hanging ornaments and spruced it up with embellishments. So cute!

Jennifer Gallacher always, always creates such stunning pages. I love all the little details she puts into her pages.

How about a fun card idea for those last minute holiday cards. Jennifer McGuire's cute little snowman card is adorable. She always adds such fun touches to her card creations. Check out that darling ribbon "scarf".

And I love, love, LOVE Stephanie Dagan's work. Check out these darling Advent Calendar boxes she created. Plus she shares photos and instructions on how you can create your own!

Happy Holidays!

Technique Discussion: Machine Stitching on Layouts

Hi Peas, Margie here this morning to talk to you about messy machine stitches.Stitching on layouts is one of my favorite things to do on a layout. When I finish a layout and it doesn't have stitching on it, it sometimes doesn't feel complete to me. When I started to stitch on my layouts, I realized that I didn't really have the right machine to make absolutely perfect stitches. I love the look of perfect stitches, but I was never able to get the tension and the dials just right to give me that look. So, I just went a little crazy with my machine and started to sew wildly on scraps of paper to see what kind of a look I could get.

I realized that my "homespun" style worked with messy stitches. I typically like to move a zig zag stitch around my paper, then I go back with a straight stitch down the middle or two straight stitches down either side of the zig zag. I don't have to be perfect, because it really doesn't match my style anyway. Once I realized I could do this, I learned how to control my stitches so that however messy they may be, they were still going in the direction I wanted them to go. A kind of controlled chaos, I believe. Hmm....kind of like having 4 kinds under the age of 8 at one time in my life. :)

Finally Friday - Christmas Stocking

Morning, all! Happy Friday!

For today's Finally Friday project, I decided to try some more paper-piecing. In the video, I show you how to draw your own stocking template and then cut out the pieces to assemble a paper-pieced Christmas stocking. So fun to pick out the patterned papers and put it all together. Sort of like quilting and picking out pieces of fabric. :)

For my stocking, I chose some papers from Cosmo Cricket's Jolly By Golly 6x6 paper pad. Anyhow, enjoy!

CHALLENGE: Create your own Christmas stocking, or other paper pieced tag. Then, upload an image of your tag to the TwoPeas gallery and select this week's Finally Friday. Your tag will then appear at the bottom of this week's Finally Friday page. :)

Weekly Challenge : Tell the Story from Santa's Perspective!

We all have them, those adorable photos with a fairly generic story. At this time of year, the generic photo often involves the big guy in red. Sure, your kid looks adorable sitting there on Santa's lap, but for how many years can you repeat, "__________ looked so cute sitting there with Santa."

This year, I challenge you to do something different.

Think about what Santa would say about your kiddo, and write your journaling from Santa's perspective. Be silly, be scientific, use check boxes or quiz questions, just have fun with it!

You can read more about my layout here, and as always, if you have any questions, feel free to peamail me! :)

Happy Holidays!

This week's DIGI CHALLENGE!

This weeks digital challenge is to do a layout inspired by a piece of clothing or fabric. I imagine you could use a print as a design on your layout, or simply be inspired by clothing in some random way like I was! Let me explain...

I have had this photos of the girl with the umbrella in the clouds for a long time now, potentially to do a photo like it.... but I was so inspired by it for a layout... I love the "look" of the girl holding the umbrella... so I simply put an umbrella with my little girl! I also went for that same look of dreaminess in the photo. Hope you like it.

Cant wait to see how you get inspired.

Organization Tip- Peg Board

Stickers, chipboard, brads, all of it comes in the CUTEST packaging ever! Years ago I saw someone mount peg board up and use the pegs to hold their scrap stuff! I ran out that day and bought some! It's my favorite way to organize my stuff--I can shuffle through all my letter stickers and felt borders in a snap! Plus it's all at eye level so I can see what I have instead of digging through my bins! You can get a peg board this size for $6 at your local Home Improvement store--the mounting hardware and pegs are just $2 more!!

Hope this gives you some good ideas to organize that scrap room!

11:00 Challenge : Make a Monochromatic Layout

Hello, Croppers!

Gennifer here, with your 11:00 Challenge: Use one color on your layout, plus neutrals, of course!

Here’s my sample layout, created with a photo I snapped of my youngest at Thanksgiving dinner last week. His eyes were just gorgeous in it, and I wanted to draw attention to the amazing color. I only added one blue embellishment (the rhinestone border), but I actually used my eyedropper tool to pick up the colors out of his eye for my title and journaling.

Here are some other monochromatic layouts I loved from the gallery to get your juices flowing:

From my fellow Garden Girl Caroline Ikeji:

And from GG Mary MacAskill:

Look at this fun layout by simplyAmanda:

A gorgeous layout by alexandra s.m.:

Love this one by paperdollsteph (and I want this coat!):

Check this one out by nancyburke:

And a great card example by Christine Drumheller:

You have until the end of the crop tonight (Midnight, CST) to complete your project. Don’t forget to check the challenge box when you upload… I can’t wait to see your pages!

10:30 Mini Challenge (What do to with those Holiday Place Cards :)

So here's what I will do with my place cards after my dinner party...

I will have my guests write on the insides of their place card an answer to my holiday question.  This time, the question will be simple: "What do you want most for Christmas?"

I will be sure to keep all of their place cards so that can attach them to this layout after.  Sort of like a scrapbook dinner party favor for myself :)

Easy as that!  And just think, if you go ahead and make the simple layout, you will be sure to put those place cards on there after your party!

Have fun, and most HAPPIEST OF HOLIDAYS TO YOU!!!

Thanks so much for playing along.  Be sure to check the challenge box to be included for the drawing :)  You have until midnight!!!

GG Chat 9-10 Hour *Challenge: Holiday Party Place Cards*

Hi there!
I challenge you to make a set of holiday party place cards using scraps of you Christmas supplies!  It's a fun crafty idea to dress up any dinner/drink table at your holiday get-together's.  Even if it's just a small get together with your immediate family, why not dress up that table a bit?! :)
I made all of these using assembly line process.  Punched circles from pattern papers, used my paper trimmer to trim all of the pattern paper and cardstock, used my slice to cut the little men and women, and then just made piles and went to town!  Quick and easy.  I actually got everything ready and then took them to work with me and made them while at my desk ;)

Here are mine:

Be sure to stay tuned till 10:30, where I will show you what we can do with those little works of art post-dinner party :)

Thanks for playing along, AND be sure to check the challenge box when uploading your project so that you creations for your chance to win!!!

Weekly Challenge: Make a Holiday Craft!

Do you have a Holiday craft in the back of your mind that you've been thinking about for when you "have enough time"?

Or better yet, a craft or LO you've been thinking about for a couple Christmas seasons now?

I do that.  I think about it until, well, the moment has passed.

It is Dec. 4th and I challenge you to make that page, card or craft you've been thinking about!

I was inspired by a cute real wreath I saw in a magazine.

I tore out the picture and started to add it to my HUGE stack of "one day, I'll get around to it project ideas."

Instead, I pulled the product I'd need to make a LO and put it on a tray and set it aside.

That night, after the kiddos were nestled snug in their beds with visions of Transformers dancing in their heads...

I made this quick page.

It felt good to get that idea out of my head and onto paper.

Like marking 5 things off your to do list at once good.

I know you are busy.

I am thankful for what I am busy with and who I am busy for.

But I challenge you to think about a project, card or page as you go about your day.

Pull the photos or products.

And then tonight...of this week, go ahead and make something.

I can't wait to see what you make!

Finally Friday - Holiday Trees

Good morning, all!

I'm back with another Finally Friday card and video. This week, I broke out some of Making Memories' Mistletoe collection to create a card with trees on it. I always love to find patterned paper with individual images on it that I can cut out and arrange on a card. Super fun!

Anyhow, enjoy!

CHALLENGE: Create a card with a "vignette" or scene. You can paper piece, draw, stamp, or whatever. Then, upload an image of your card to the TwoPeas gallery and select this week's Finally Friday. Your card will then appear at the bottom of this week's Finally Friday page. :)

garden theme discussion- two page layouts!

Hi there! It's DECEMBER FIRST! AHHH! This month's theme is SO INSPIRING! I love 2 page layouts but often get stuck on finalizing designs and placement. Here are a few layouts from this month's garden that caught my eye.

First up, the quuuuueeeeeen of 2 page layouts. Kristina Pea1 herself :) Sigh. Good inspiration. Always love her placement and her use of space. It all just works!

Whoa! Look at all the pics Lisa used on here! Love how she separated the rows with the stickers! Awesome!

Brrriiiiillliant! Use of school portrait photos :) Love the little tree and a good lookin family too! Good job Margie!

Ahhh. Shannon. LOVE the big picture taking up the whole page. Geez so cool. And the layered sticker title. Love the lace paper as an entire page as well.

Kandis used a single photo for her 2 page layout, it can be done! And done well! :)

Or no photo at all! Lovely layout from Brooke!  The small journaling all on one page is gorgeous.

ADORABLE! Mary's layout! Love all the butterflies to take you across the pages. :)

I love how this layout by Laura is a layout-- that will most likely be in her son's scrapbook, but it is so pretty to look at, that I can imagine it hanging on his wall in his bedroom too :)

And a digital 2 pager. I love looking at Chelsea's layouts and wondering what parts/elements came from what kit. She's amazing!

I could keep adding to this blog post all night, so many good layouts in there! Have a peek at the full garden here!

Happy December!
Jamie Waters :)
