Blog Post

Hi everyone. It's Amy today. I've been wanting this post assignment for a long time - so I was excited to finally get it. I love looking at what other people have in their carts (even in the store, sometimes you miss stuff on the shelves you know!). It's fun to see the different things people buy and then what they end up doing with them. :) So many possibilities.

Here's what I have waiting in my bucket right now! :) I just sent through one last week, but I've managed to fill it up again with all the new CHA stuff that seems to come in every day!

Happy shopping!!!!

Technique Discussion

Hello hello, Chelsea here.  I thought instead of taking photos of me doing a technique... I would video my silly self doing it.  There is nothing professional about this people ok!  So I like to decorate my own paper using Bazzil dotted Swiss paper and this is what I'm doing!  With my little side kick Hattie by my side.

 Love Chels

And here is a  close up of the two pieces I did.  See the dots now!!!!!

Finally Friday - Welcome Baby

Good morning, all!

Ya'll know I love kraft card stock, right? ;) How could I resist an entire collection based on kraft card stock? SO YUMMY! I love it! The This Girl collection from Fancy Pants has been out for a bit now, and I couldn't stop myself from using it! Love it so much!

Anyhow, this week's card had all kinds of krafty-ness on it. Hope you enjoy! You can see the card and more info, including supplies, over here.

Watch the video below, or over at Youtube. Thanks for watching! :)

Note: American Crafts' Nancy Knitley Craft Fair paper is in the background of the photo. :)

Weekly Challenge: Scraplift a Garden Girl!

Hiya!  Shimelle here with something for you today!  This week, your challenge is to choose any layout you love from the garden, and scraplift away!  What layout - or indeed what Garden Girl - will you choose?!

I chose this adorable page by Jen Johner -- and changed it up with more masculine colours.  It's amazing how quickly a layout can come together when you scraplift a page you like -- this was minutes rather than hours of staring at a page and wondering where things should go.  And of course, scraplifting can help you find your creative streak again by choosing a layout that is in a style you wouldn't normally create and changing it up to match what you love!

Your resulting page may be a little or a lot like your point of inspiration, but no matter what remember to do two things when you upload your layout to the gallery: in the page description, tell us what garden page (or Garden Girl's style) you chose as your starting point AND make sure to check the box for this week's Scraplift a Garden Girl challenge, so you can be in with a chance at a prize!

We can't wait to see your layouts!

Sketch It Out

Here is my sketch for you this week. A basic sketch that I keep in my small sketchbook I turn to for every layout I create. It's a simple one using multiple photos that are 4x6 in size, but can be trimmed down how you like. There is also a section for your journaling.

I used a series of photos for my layout to tell my story without journaling. I trimmed my 4x6 photos to fit on my page and used the canvas ribbon to showcase my title and butterfly element. Pretty Simple.

If you have a lot of photos you want to use on a page, I hope my sketch & sample layout will inspire you. Thanks so much!
Cindy :-)

1 product: 3 ways

good morning, peas!  brooke here, popping in to show you a product that i really love and three different ways to use it.  hero arts makes great stamps and i really love thecloud wood mounted stamp.  i'm not a huge stamper but they make stamps so cute that i can't resist.

here's three ways i used this stamp...

a very traditional use: a card!  i stamped white cardstock twice, one for the background of the card and one to cut around so i could add dimension with cut out clouds.  i used foam dots to adhere the cut out clouds to the background.  easy peasy and a really cute card. :)

the second way i used the stamp was to create cupcake decorations.  sure to brighten anyone's day... again, i stamped the image and cut around the clouds.  i used a glue dot to adhere the clouds to toothpicks.  pretty cute!

and since i've got all things baby on my mind lately, for the third use, i stamped a onesie.  this is so easy and makes for a great shower gift.  it really is as easy as it looks... simply stamp right on the fabric.  i added a little 9 and a heart in the corner.  a cute cloud 9 onesie.

if you have any questions, feel free to peamail me.  thanks for checking this post out!

Product Spotlight: School Digital Kits

Hi everyone!  Kate Teague here!

It's Back To School time soon!  When looking for school themed items don't forget that the digital section of the store has awealth of products as well!  You can use these in all digital layouts/hyrbid pages or just print them out for paper pages- let your mind get creative!  Here are some of my favourites:

Jen Allyson has a new set of Study Hall kits that are amazing!!!  Her tags are perfect for printing out. Check them out:

Holly Jones the perfect set of lunch tags to print out . ADORABLE!

Sande Krieger has a wonderful little 99 cent kit of labels/titles:

And I have a few items as well. A little booklet. I have this printed out into a little 5X7 album and just make one for each year- super easy!!  And a FREE kit as well!

So don't forget the digital store the next time you've got some school pages to work on it!  It's elementary! :)

Orginization: Punches

Hi, there.  Jennifer McGuire here to talk about punch storage.

I struggled for years on how to store my punches.  Drawers never worked for me since I couldn't see them all quickly and easily.  And I hate to have things sitting out too much.  Shelving took up too much space.

So, I finally figured out a system and it works great for me.  I now use my punches all the time!

I had a corner spot in my scrapbook room that had nothing in it and was hidden from view.  So, I went to Home Depot and had a piece of pegboard cut to fit in the spot.  I then attached it to the wall on some small wood blocks.  (Or, I should say my husband did - ha.)  Then I added lots of little hooks, racks and metal baskets.  These work great for all of my punches.

I just keep my favorites out like this.  The others that I don't use much are in a drawer nearby.

This ia a very inexpensive and easy way to store punches.  All the hooks and such can be found at any hardware store - just ask. :)

Have a great weekend!

Jennifer

Finally Friday - Just a Note

Hello, all!

In this week's Finally Friday video, I try out some Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel (UTEE). I've never really used it before, so it was fun coming up with a way to use it. I also used a bunch of American Crafts product on the card: Tropicals cardstock and Just a Note stamp--which I love!

Anyhow, enjoy! You can watch the video below, or over at YouTube. Thanks for watching! :)

Good morning Peas! Moon here with this week's challenge, if you so choose to take it.

Do a layout about yourself. It can be anything from your like and dislikes to your goals. Really. Anything.

I did this page about some of the things I would like to do in the near future.

Also, try using only pictures of yourself. I know. Call it a bonus.

Have fun and get to scrapping!

Photography Challenge: ABC or 123

Welcome to this week's Photography Challenge: ABC or 123.

The first thing that popped into my mind was school related, but then I started thinking about it  a little more (mostly because I don't have any school photos yet:)).  And the next thing that came to mind was steps.  The steps it takes to learn something new, to teach, to make, to do.  So I am sharing steps of my son learning to throw.  Point, Step, Throw.

Share what ABC or 123 means to you!!

What's in My Bucket??

Hi. Happy Sunday. er..... well, since its already evening, happy sunday evening. hope you had a nice weekend.

So, my bucket.... its filled with a bit of randomness right now. I am still working on my annual christmas album, which I also combined with Shimelle's Journal Your Christmas Class. So its taking me a  bit longer than normal. So, in my bucket are letter stickers that I have been using a lot of lately, that I want to get back in my stash in case I need more soon. Doodlebug letters seem to be my favorite lately, as well as the Basic Grey letter stickers. and as always American Crafts Thicker Stickers. I love to mix and match them.

I have also been obsessed with circle punches. of all sizes. once I get my book finished I will scan/photograph it and you will see. Circles are everywhere on my pages. and its odd, and I never thought this would happen, but a couple of them are kind of dull and not punching as well as they used to. There are a few more punches in my bucket as well.

and then, new Halloween items from American Crafts. Stickers, paper, flair... I like it. I can't wait to use it. I also have a new Halloween Quickutz die, that I thought I might use in some decorating things, as well as the new Black Fuzzy vinyl.... to cut out spiders or something. I don't know. I think it might be kind of cool to use with my halloween projects.

I will link all of this up below.... my bucket page was so long that I could not capture it all on a screen shot, and it looked rather silly to see 5 circle punches in a row, or 6 doodlebug letter stickers, since that was about all I could get in one screen shot.

Again, Have a great rest of your weekend!

Kristina

Seasonal Theme Discussion: School

Good morning!  This is Lisa Brown here to talk about this month's seasonal theme, school.  With summer drawing to a close and all the stores full of back to school supplies on display, now is a great time to think about creating school layouts.

Shannon Tidwell made an adorable layout, "7 & First Grade" highlighting her oldest son starting first grade that incorporates some fun boy elements like the pirate patterned paper and monsters.

Cindy Liebel made fun bright colored chipboard elements for use in capturing one of her son's homework assignments with her layout, "Homework."

Lisa McGarvey chose to document a fun aspect of school, a fieldtrip, with her layout, "Catholic School's Day at Petco."  I love the red, white and black color scheme she used and all the small details.

Moon Ko made a layout about another important aspect of school, her daughter's teacher, with her layout, "Ms. Mobley," using lots of cute apple themed supplies.

Kelli Crowe got impressions about school from her children with her layout, "School: What Do You Like Best?"  I love how she incorporated her children's artwork into the layout.

For more inspiration take a look at all the School Themed layouts in the Seasonal Garden.

Finally Friday - You Are My Greatest Blessing

Happy Friday, all!

This week's card uses some of Cosmo Cricket's new Earth Love patterned paper, Ali Edwards' Loving Words stamp set, and some white gel pen (big surprise--I'm obsessed with it!). Anyhow, I wanted to create a card using the Earth Love paper, and even though it's a baby-themed crafting kit, I didn't make it a baby card. :)

Finally Friday videos are now challenges here at Two Peas, so I want to issue a challenge to all of you: Create a card using patterned paper that was originally not intended for the topic of your card. For example, you could use red polka dot holiday paper on a love card, or black and white damask halloween paper on a wedding card. This is a "use your supplies" challenge, so to speak. :) Stretch those theme related supplies to places you might not have thought about before.

To participate in the challenge, just upload your card to the TwoPeas gallery. Select this Finally Friday video when you upload your photo, and it will automatically be linked up to the Finally Friday page and will be shown at the bottom. :)

You can watch this week's video below, or over at YouTube. Happy crafting!

Weekly Challenge: Create a Shape!!

Good morning! Jen G here to share this week's challenge with you. This week's challenge is to CREATE A SHAPE on your layout. I got this idea from the early sunshine that was at my daughter's track practice. My son was quite tired after being dragged there with her and I thought it would be fun to add a hand made sun to the top of the layout. You can see the layout below and see the details here.

To participate in this week's challenge, be sure to mark the correct challenge box when you're uploading your project. The winner will be selected to receive a prize package from one of our wonderful sponsors. I can't wait to see what you create!

You can find the free template here with an instructional video on how to use it. Once you click on that link - look in the body of the text for the link to download the FREE text on a path file.

Good luck! Can't wait to see what you create!

Product Spotlight- Heidi Swapp Invisibles

One of my favorite products right now is the Invisibles line by Heidi Swapp. When you see it on the screen, it’s really hard to tell what the catch is because it is all white. But the neat thing is that when you apply a medium to it, there’s a raised white texture that pops out. Super cool. It’s such a versatile product, you could really customize it to make it look how you want. Or you can keep it plain white, which is cool as well. :) There’s paper, chipboard, stickers and borders!

Here’s a few projects I found in the garden using the borders:

The letter stickers are SUPER cool. Plain:

Or colored! Love this layout I found in the gallery from Linsey75. She colored the letters in perfectly to match her layout. Love it!

I highly recommend you add a few products from this line and experiment with them. They are quite fun! Please be sure to tag your layouts if you post them in the gallery, I love seeing which projects included them!

Thanks!

Sketch It Out

Hello! Nichol Magouirk here with this month’s Sketch It Out.

The sketch:

I created both a 12x12 and a 8 1/2 x 11 sketch and chose to create in the 12x12 format for this particular layout. The layout is visually divided in half with lots of room at the top for the title and embellishment and space for photos and journaling along the bottom.

The layout:

Notes of interest:

  • I only had the one photo (and the ticket stubs) from the event so I printed out some photos from the web to include on my layout.
  • The film strip (Silhouette die cut) would be super cute with small photos but I chose to place my journaling there instead. Makes for a unique journaling block.
  • The minute I purchased the Night Light line from October Afternoon I knew that I wanted to use pieces of it for this layout. That one orange "monster" in particular reminded me of "Randall" from the movie.
  • I love that you can die cut any font on your computer using the Silhouette. I downloaded the font to die cut the "Monsters Inc." title from HERE. (scroll down a bit)
  • I added some chipboard numbers to the body of one of the monsters for the date and added a heart diecut to the "0" for a fun touch.
  • I lifted up parts of the monster and arrow die cuts with pop dots.
  • Don't forget to add memorabilia when you have it (I used the ticket stubs from the movie tucked under the photo)
  •

Thanks for checking out my sketch!

Have a great week!

Photography Challenge: HANDS, FEET, FINGERS & TOES

Happy Monday Everyone!

This week’s Photography Challenge is hosted by Sheri Horton and the topic is: HANDS, FEET, FINGERS & TOES.  I absolutely love this challenge. Her photos she added are so amazing!  My favorite is the shot of her and her girls on the deck that her husband took.  Like she said, I love that you can see all their faces but yet the photo is focused on their feet. :)

Here is a shot I took a couple years ago which I used on one of my Hall Of Fame Layouts that I really love.

I remember way back, when Hannah was just 3 months old, I laid on the floor, set her in front of me and took a photo of our feet together.  Not the greatest shot in the world but we will be able to look back years later and she how tiny she really was.

As she states: The key to photographing hands & feet is to get up close! You can even use your macro lens if you have one or the macro setting on your camera. The other key is patience, as it can take a few tries to get a good shot, especially of baby feet, because they are constantly moving them! I find it's best when they're lying down and either sleeping or close to falling asleep as that's when they are most calm, then you can position their feet how you like. This works well for newborns but not for older babies, who never seem to keep their feet still long enough :) But if you're patient you'll be rewarded with a beautiful shot of your baby's little piggies :)

So, with all of Sheri’s AWESOME Ideas, I can’t wait to see what you all come up with!

Have a great day!

Wendy

User Spotlight: Check out Christine Drumheller

Today I am spotlighting ,Christine Drumheller, a pea for the last 5 years! I came across this beautiful layout in the gallery this morning. I love the complimentary colors, and what a gorgeous photo. The title of this layout is so eyecatching. I love the diagonal that comes from the left corner (water marks) down to the right corner (the title).

This self portrait layout of Christine's is stunning. The stitches are absolutely perfect and give a perfect shape to the white space on the right of her focal point photo.

Love what Christine did with the strips of patterned paper behind her photo. The little flower embellishment is the perfect little accent for this page. The soft, dreamy colors are so beautiful and work so well with her sweet, sweet photo.

The detail in this last layout is just so incredible. Love the stitches, leaves, owl, clock, and all the filler that creates the perfect tree to support her "right now" journaling. Stunning!

Check out Christine's gallery here. www.twopeasinabucket.com/userprofile.asp  She is fabulous!

Organization: Organize your Ideas

I am not an organized person so you will see no pictures of my scraproom today. I have no ideas to give you on organizing your supplies, paper, etc.   However years ago when I began scrapbooking I got in the habit of organizing my ideas in journals and notebooks. I like to call them inspiration journals. What began as a place to keep and document ideas for pages turned into a place I accumulated images of things I like.  Most of the time I rip out stuff from magazines or print out pictures from the computer and tape them into my journal, but I also sketch in my inspiration journal and use it as a personal journal.

Here are some random pics of one of my journals:

Its a fun activity beyond just having all your ideas and inspiration in one place.

Check it out, you'll like it.

Challenge

Crop Challenge #2: Mix those pattern papers! (8-9pm Central)

During this hour (8pm-9pm central time) create a layout, tag, or card that mixes atleast 4 different pattern papers. Post it in the gallery. Make sure you check the challenge box to have your name in a random drawing for a 2peas prize from Mellypea. I will draw a name at the end of the hour.

This month's theme here in the 2peas garden is Patterned Paper. I love mixing patterns. The best place to find my papers to mix is in my bag of scraps...small little scraps that when thrown together make a fabulous unexpected combination.

Ok, get busy and post in the gallery (checking the challenge box)! Can't wait to see what you come up with. :)

Weekly Challenge Discussion - Use Themed Products on a Non Theme LO

Hi Peas!

Here is this week's challenge!

There are so many cute themed products out there! It's hard not to love them. They are always great for those themed pages, however, if you're like me, you don't always have enough material to use these products in the way they're intended. For example, I loved the Christmas in July digital kits that came out a few weeks ago, but didn't have very many Christmas photos to go along with them. I used Michelle Underwood's Wonderful Christmas kit here - it's Chirstmasy, but not so much that you can find a ton of other uses for it! I also added in the Joyful line from KI Memories - another great Christmas line, which can be used in other ways!  I used both of these lines on a birthday page!

I challenge you to break out your themed products and use them on a non-themed page! It's fun to find different uses for the same product!

Have fun :)

Finally Friday - Happy Birthday

Good morning, all!

This card has a sort of 1980's feel to it, doesn't it? It's a crazy, colorful card for sure. :) It was also... let's just say it was entertaining. LOL! I have a "blooper" near the beginning that when I rewatched the video while editing, I couldn't help laughing. I think you'll enjoy it as well. :)

Anyhow, you can check out the page in the Designer Garden, and the video below or over at YouTube. Thanks for watching!

NOTE: My Finally Friday video are now challenges here at TwoPeas! So, if you create a card based on a Finally Friday video, you can select it when you upload to the gallery and then it will appear on the Finally Friday page in the Designer Garden. Pretty sweet!

Technique Discussion: Sweet Handmade Flowers

Hello!

Today I'm going to share a quick technique -  how to create your own flower embellishments. What I love best about these little flowers is that they are completely adaptable-you can use whatever paper you like to match your project-patterned paper, cardstock, paper you've painted, cardstock with a white center...the possibilities are endless!

1. I began by taking a white piece of cardstock and painting it with some Ranger paints. I then laid down a lace paper and spritzed a little Maya Road Mist over top of the dried paper.

2. When dry, I tore out circles of varying sizes and colors.

3. Next, I layered the circles and attached them together.

4. Finally, I adhered them to the front of a card.

I hope you enjoyed this little technique. I look forward to seeing your creations in the gallery!

Digital Weekly Challenge: Paperclip Trick

This week's challenge is to do a layout that features the "paperclip trick." Or, in other words, a layout that has an element that both overlaps and is partially covered by another element.

There are a few different ways to accomplish this trick so I'm excited to see what you do! My layout is pretty subtle but there are tons of other layouts that are much more elaborate. Don't forget to check the appropriate challenge checkbox when you upload to be entered in this week's GC contest!!

Have fun!

Community Challenge: Create a Bookmark!

Good Morning, Peas!  I hope your Tuesday is off to a great, creative start!

Today I am challenging you to create a book mark using your scrap supplies.  I don't know about you, but my summer vacation is nearing and end, and my mind is surrounded with all things school lately.  Books, supplies, new clothes, etc. etc.  So I started thinking that I should create a bookmark to take to school with me to remind me of my summer vacation.

Create a book mark for youself, for you kids, or for your kids students!  No matter who receives it, you can bet that it will bring a smile to their/your face everytime you use it :)

Here's mine.

I decided to use an American Crafts Thickers packaging to cover it in plastic (to make it more durable).  I just put the completed bookmark inside the packaging, sewed around it with my machine, and cut off the excess.

Once you have completed your bookmark, please upload an image of it to the gallery & make sure you select our challenge in the Garden challenge box once uploaded. You have until midnight (CST) to complete your bookmark. I will post the winner of the challenge tomorrow for a prize.
