From Start to Finish: January in Review
This week I really wanted to play with Ranger's Stickyback Canvas and my Sizzix Steel Rule Dies. I had created this photo collage for this year's January Month in Review layout and it provided the perfect compliment to some fun handmade embellies!
I started by cutting the white stickyback canvas into 4" squares and painting each with the Ranger Studio Paints. If you want to print off your own color mixing chart (like the one I show in the how to video below), click HERE [rangerink.com]. The Studio Paints are my absolute favorite paints.
Once each painted square was dry (I sped up the process with a heat gun), I die cut the flowers, leaves and butterfly using the Sizzix Big Shot and Steel Rule Dies. I found that I liked the results better by painting the canvas first, then die cutting. Cleaner edges. I used my fingernail and a craft knife to distress the edges for a more "homemade feel" before adhering to my layout and embellishing with florals/ribbon/buttons.
Stampin' Up Ink (for stamped sub-title): Peach Parfait
CHALLENGE: Use paint/ink/etc. to customize your own embellishments on your next layout!
*This challenge runs from June 29, 2011 - July 6, 2011.*

For this week's From Start to Finish layout I wanted to focus on a journaling/stamping technique that I briefly touched on in last week's layout/video HERE [twopeasinabucket.com].
I love creating a big impact with my journaling by substituting certain words in computer generated (or handwritten) journaling with stamped words and/or phrases. Ali Edwards' stamps are particularly perfect for this technique because her stamp sets are word/phrase focused and most have lots of similarly themed words within each set.
For today's layout, I chose two stamp sets that are both travel/vacation themed to give me plenty of options for my journaling.
The easiest way I have found to substitute computer generated words with stamped words is this:
1. Sit down with your stamp sets you will be using and write out your journaling on a scratch piece of paper, referencing your stamps and trying to implement as many as you can with your own journaling.
2.Type out journaling in word processing software (be sure to set margins, etc. to fit your paper before starting). Measure each word you are substituting and leave the appropriate amount of space for the stamp(s).
3. Print journaling on printer paper and carefully lay out clear stamps within journaling to make sure they each fit. Make adjustments if necessary.
4. Temporarily adhere paper over regular printer paper (hold up to light source to position exactly) and run through printer to add journaling.
5. Stamp each word within computer generated journaling and adhere to your project!
Click HERE [twopeasinabucket.com] for another example of this type of journaling using The Observant Traveler Studio AE Stamp Set.
CHALLENGE: Add words/phrases/images/etc. to your journaling. Can be stamps, stickers, rub-ons, etc. as long as you jazz up your journaling in some way!
*This challenge runs from June 22, 2011 - June 29, 2011.*

From Start to Finish: Celebrate U
I can't seem to get enough of 2-page layouts here the last few weeks. I wanted to scrapbook a baby shower we had for my sister in law last fall and I had lots of photos to use so this is another photo-heavy layout but I made sure to add lots of handmade touches to "jazz" it up a little.
I used the Tim Holtz Hearts dies to die cut Stickyback canvas, Dear Lizzy Canvas and felt hearts. I added some stamping and inking to the stickyback canvas hearts for that homemade feel. I added buttons randomly to some of the hearts for dimension.
A die cut layered title and journaling with stamped words added color and texture without bulk.
CHALLENGE: Use a heart accent on your next layout.

Finally Friday Card & Video: Paper Pieced Masking

Hi all!
The idea for this week's cards started with my desire to create a single-layer card--the easiest cards to send through the mail. I also wanted to use a few stamp sets that I acquired recently but hadn't had a chance to use.
While I was brainstorming ideas on how to create a single-layer card with all these different stamps, I thought about creating a pattern with pieces of masking paper. This is what I came up with. It's a bit time consuming, but I LOVE the look. :)
CHALLENGE
Create a card with masking. Upload your card to the TwoPeas Gallery and select this week's Finally Friday challenge.
Enjoy!

From Start to Finish: Kindergarten Title Page, etc.
This week's layout coordinates with THIS [twopeasinabucket.com] layout I did a couple of weeks ago. It's the remaining 2 Kindergarten pages for my oldest son's school album. I used many of the same papers as I did for the previous layout to have some continuity among all the pages for his Kindergarten year.
I incorporated lots of stamping to make it easy to replicate the design, if I choose, for the following school years. I love that I don't have to worry about running out of letter/number stickers when using stamps. The options are endless and you can stamp them in any color!
I used my son's school photo on the title page. I prefer the smaller size photo instead of the traditional 8x10 photo for the title pages.
For the ending Kindergarten page I used lots of small pieces of some of my favorite memorabilia from his first year in school. I added lots of little bits of stickers, punched shapes and more to really add a little "something" to the memorabilia heavy page.
CHALLENGE: Use primary colors on a layout.

Finally Friday Video & Card: I {Heart} You
For this week's Finally Friday card, I started out with the large gray and white dot patterned paper from Echo Park's Metropolitan Dots & Stripes 6x6 pad. I thought it would be fun to separate the sentiment of the card between the large dots. "I {Heart} U" seemed like the perfect way to do it. :)
Even though I wasn't meaning to create a Valentine-y looking card, it sort of came out that way. Oh, well! It's a love card. :)
CHALLENGE
Create a card using patterned paper. Upload your card to the TwoPeas Gallery and select this week's Finally Friday challenge.
Enjoy!

From Start to Finish: His & Hers
I've been getting lots of requests for 2-page layout examples so I thought I'd share another one this week!
This week's layout features 9 photos on a 2-page spread from my sister-in-law's bridal shower last summer. I chose lots of purple for my page (mainly because that is my SIL's favorite color) from Pebbles, KI Memories and MME. I added touches of pink, orange and red in the punched butterflies, small borders and die cut flower border design to add interest. White stamping on vellum adds a soft layered touch.
One of my favorite things to do I punch circles from background papers, then punch a smaller circle to "frame" inside the larger one. It helps break up a background plus adds a great spot for embellishments.
For my title, I die cut the design from both patterned papers and vellum, layering the patterned paper over the vellum after toning down the intensity of the patt. papers with Mister Huey mist.
CHALLENGE: Use mists or inks on your next layout.
