Altering a Daybook with Kristina
Amy Tan carries around these adorable little books that she is taping things into all the time…. while she was visiting Two Peas in August, she had a fun little daybook that she had embroidered. I so admired this little book. After seeing her in action with her little mini book and traveling pocket of tools, I was driven to grab a little mini daybook for myself.
Her collections with American Crafts include several styles of daybooks. I selected the stitched daybook from her Sketchbook collection. I love the gray chevron overlay on the front cover and all of the brightly colored prints on the inside. The pages inside are varying in shape, sewn in the middle for the binding, creating all sorts of interesting spaces to create on.
I also added a fun row of colorful washi tape to the inside cover, along with one of the beautiful rose pieces from the My Minds Eye collection.

This Week's Class Videos 8.24.2012
Happy Friday! Here is a round-up of this week's classes and videos:
Memory Keeping Monday | "Nerd Day" by Jen Gallacher
From Jen, "I thought it would be fun to combine our monthly “school” theme with the use of envelopes/pockets. Something about school makes me think of office supplies. Frankly, when my kids are grown I don't think I'll stop buying office supplies. I'm slightly addicted.
For this page, I cut several file folders from the 6X6 paper pad using my Silhouette die cut machine. I layered them on top of one another at the bottom of the page. I also added several layers of pockets and items around the page. I tried to select items that had a school/office supply feel. I changed the photos to black and white because I think it makes them pop a little bit more against the patterns I selected for my papers." ...see challenge and supplies here.
The Adventures of Glitter Girl | Adventure 034 "Living on the Edge"
From Shimelle, "This week Glitter Girl looks at versatile border punches as a way to add detail to a design, inspired by this message board thread [twopeasinabucket.com] (and several others about punches this week). Her adventure takes her through the introduction of her three most-used border punches currently, the creation of a new layout and a quick card with a specific punch being talked about on the board.Come along for the adventure, won't you?" ... see card, challenge & supplies here.
Finally Friday | Just Because by Kandis Smith
From Kandis, "Stamp! Stamp! Stamp! This card is all about stamping! I used a large Design stamp for the card with some little label and sentiment stamps to go with it. It's simple and fun! Thanks for checking out my video!" ...see challenge and supplies here.
That concludes this week's classes - we hope you enjoyed them! - Jamie

Product Spotlight with Amy Heller: Hexagons
Hi Peas! It’s Amy Heller here and I’m excited to bring you some looks at one of the latest trends in shapes, hexagons! In the past six months or so, hexagons have come onto the scene in scrapbooking in full force! We are seeing them in Peas' pages and cards nearly everyday in the gallery. Today I thought I would share some of my favorite NEW products and member pages featuring this very trendy shape!
Like chevron did last year, hexagons are appearing in nearly every manufacturer’s collections this year. The latest from Echo Park boasts this multi-patterned hexagon paper that makes hand cutting a multitude of intricate shapes/patterns a snap in no time!
Capture the Moments by sstringfellow
Talk about making it easy to use hexagons, the new Teresa Collins stickers make adding hexagons to your projects super simple and without any cutting! Just peel and stick!
This gorgeous page by Pea staceymichu, shows just how much instant impact and design these gorgeous stickers lend to your projects.
Grouping hexagons into a honeycomb formation is another lovely trend. This stamp from My Mind’s eye makes creating beautiful backgrounds for cards and pages simple by pre-grouping the hexagons in one stamp.
Of course washi is one of the new staples in scrapbooking, so it’s no surprise that a hexagon washi had to make it onto the market sooner or later! I’m so thrilled that it’s sooner because this set is just so gorgeous with it’s graphic hexagons.
This gorgeous little card from Pea Danni Reid shows how you can instantly add washi tape to create your own custom background. Just beautiful!
Hexagons are, of course hitting the digital market, too, like these wonderful layered Qwik Trix sets from Betsy Tuma!
I love how Kimberly.kalil used these honeycombed hexagons at the base of her page, then also used them for her journaling spot. Terrific page!
I just LOVE how adogslife13 handstitched around the hexagons of this My Mind's Eye paper on this page! It really takes her page to another level and makes those beautiful hexagons stand out!
Lastly, one of the easiest ways to create hexagons has been the use of the Silhouette Cameo like Kathy Martin did here in this darling card. I especially love how she created the outline then filled some of the honeycombs with varying colors of coordinating papers!
Thanks so much for joining me today! I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing how you can bring hexagons into your projects in a variety of ways! I’ve enjoyed look through the galleries and seeing so many creative and beautiful projects using hexagons. And don’t forget, you can do the same thing, simply by typing in “hexagons” into your search field in the gallery section of the Two Peas in a Bucket website. Find YOUR inspiration there! - Amy

Welcoming Lexi Bridges to the Garden Girl design team!
We could not be more thrilled to welcome the sweet and talented Lexi Bridges to the Garden Girl team! We think you're going to love seeing the many out-of-the-box ways she works with papercrafting goodies, as well as the way she tells her family's stories as a mama of boys.
Her first page for the Garden can be seen here. She was able to jump on board just in time to play along with our back-to-school theme. Here is a peek at more of her gorgeous work found in her 2peas gallery:
And a little Q + A with Lexi to help us get to know her better:
my name : Lexi Bridges
scrapbook size : 12x12, 8.5 x11 and the occasional card. I am an equal opportunity scrapper ;)
camera : Canon rebel xti
music : alternative, christian, pop, rock
work space : messy. HA! A room in the basement with concrete floors and a small window. Hopefully this is changing soon.
style : I never know how to answer this. Sew-y? Mist-y? Die cut-y? Embellishment-y? Are those even real words?
1 or 2 pages : 1. I think I have made two, 2 pagers ever.
color preference : anything but purple
favorite product type : embellishments! Can't scrap without them.
childhood ambition : paleontologist
fondest memory : my boyfriend in high school standing by my locker and asking me to homecoming while holding my pinkie finger. He's now my husband of almost 13 years :)
soundtrack : I love theatre so a favorite soundtrack would be West Side Story. If we are talking about the soundtrack of MY life, it would be the sound of little boys making noise with legos and the dishwasher running in the background ;)
retreat : mountains or beach or big city. I'm not picky.
wildest dream : to live in NYC. While we are at it, since it is my wildest dream after all, to star in a broadway show.
proudest moment : holding my boys for the first time
biggest challenge : staying organized. I'm messy by nature.
alarm clock : hate it.
perfect day : sleep in. brunch. junking. home to arrange amazing junk purchases and scrap the night away.
first job : dental hygienist after I graduated college. Teeth cleaning, anyone?
Thanks so much, Lexi - and welcome to the Garden! Keep your eyes peeled for more fantastic pages from Lexi in our Monday releases of Garden Girl projects. - Jamie

This Week's Class Videos 8.17.2012
We're wrapping up our week with this week's free classes and videos!
Memory Keeping Monday | This Old School with Lisa Truesdell
From Lisa, "For this week's Memory Keeping Monday, I wanted to explore this month's school theme in a slightly different way. Instead of focusing on my kids going back to school, I decided to make a page about the school itself. This is a great way to celebrate the place your child spends so much time!
In this video, I'm focusing on using a bright and bold alphabet - and how to fix a little stamping mishap that came up along the way." ...see challenge & supplies here.
The Adventures of Glitter Girl | Episode 033 Out of the Box
From Shimelle, "This week Glitter Girl opens an order from Two Peas and starts her quest to mix and match products from various manufacturers, something being discussed here [twopeasinabucket.com] on the general scrapbooking message board. This adventure takes her from receiving an order to creating a page kit mixing those supplies with existing items and finally the creation of a new scrapbook page. Come along for the adventure, won't you?" ...see challenge and supplies here.
Finally Friday | So Happy with Laura Craigie
From Laura, "Hey peas! It's Finally Friday again and I'm happy to have a card walk through to share with you all. I was inspired to make this card using items from my recent box from the TwoPeas store! It's all from the My Minds Eye Collection “The Sweetest Thing”, and Teresa Collins line “Tell your Story”.
The main sentiment is a dimensional sticker that I basically just added to. The glitter border, and together die cut by Teresa Collins, and a Two Peas exclusive stamp set for the adorable “yes!” speech bubble. I hope you like this fun little card and I challenge you to make your own with a cluster of embellishments all grouped together. :)" ...see supplies here.

Product Spotlight with Lisa Truesdell: Project Life Favorites + Words Unsaid workshop winner
Lisa's sharing one of her favorite supplies to use in Project Life this week! Before we begin, scroll down to the bottom of this post if you are looking for the winner of Jen's workshop, Words Unsaid.
---
I have a little secret. I LOVE cute office / stationary supplies. Clips, tags, sticky notes, notebooks, calendars... I totally have a weak spot for all of them. And just one of the many reasons that I love Project Life is that they all work perfectly in my book! For this month's 2012 : Captured class (it goes live tomorrow!), I'll be focusing on using office supply themed scrapbook product in your album. Here are a few of my favorites :

Date stamps. These are definitely a Project Life staple - I use the ones that I have every single week. I'm looking forward to the new designs coming out at CHA. A girl can never have too many roller stamps, right?

Sticky notes. I really love these plain ones - you can mist them, stamp on them, or use them for a bit of journaling.

Clips. Shapes clips, mini clothespins, topped with epoxy accents or little flags - I can't get enough. These are great for clipping memoriabilia or a photo to a journaling card.

Washi tape. It's what masking tape wants to be when it grows up. ;) You can use it to hold your photos in place, or just as a decorative element. I already covered washi back in April, but I'm up for any excuse to use it again.

Anything ledger. So many lines feature ledger or graph patterns now, and they make perfect backgrounds for journaling cards. Some lines to check out - Basic Grey Clippings, Studio Calico Take Note, Echo Park Note To Self and October Afternoon 9 to 5. There are also embellishments with ledger prints, like this October Afternoon alphabet. I love how the ledger print stays neutral but adds a little more interest - it makes them easy to use with almost any theme.

Labels. Another topic that I love so much that I gave it its own month. I have a lot of labels - both from scrapbook companies and from the office supply store. I like to add them right to the white space on 4x6 photos to hold a bit of journaling.

Little bags. Photo on the outside, journaling tag on the inside. Or journaling on the outside, extra photos and memorabilia on the inside. These are a great way to make one little PL pocket do double duty.

Tags in all sizes. Bigger tags work as journaling cards, smaller ones are fun to decorate and use as accents.

Notebooks. Am I the only person who has to avoid the school supply aisle at Target for fear that I'll come home with ANOTHER notebook? Yeah. I like to tear out pages and use them for journaling - plus they're the perfect place to take notes on my weeks.

Stamps. I love stamps. I double love stamps with an office theme since they are so easy to use on any project. In addition to the set above (oh, hello there "official memo" stamp - you make me too happy!), I love these Basic Grey Stamps and this cute Cavallini set.
Be sure to check back tomorrow mornings to see how I use all of these products in my 2012 : Captured class for August! - Lisa
Today at Two Peas:
* Congrats to garlandandrea - you are the winner of Jen's mini journaling workshop, "Words Unsaid!" We'll send you an email shortly welcoming you to the class!
* There are 25 new digital kits in the store this week!

(Pictured above: A few of Amy's supplies for scrapbooking on the go)
We were thrilled to have the lovely Amy Tan visit the Two Peas office and warehouse! If you know this designer, you know she loves to travel. How lucky for us, then, that one of her stops happened to be just a few miles from Two Peas! Kristina and Amy made plans right away to get together.
They spent some time creating together while discussing all things scrappy in Kristina's office. Both lovers of washi tape and mini books, they had no problem feeding off one another's creativity.
While they created I got out my laptop and recorded all of the ideas they had buzzing in their heads. Such a fun and inspiring atmosphere. Amy's laughter is contagious.
We loved Amy's trick for traveling light with scrap supplies. She likes to wrap shipping tags with a handful of tape designs, leaving the rolls at home for less bulk on the go.
Kristina playing with one of Amy's Daybooks - altering the cover. (We'll be sure to share the result soon!)
We eat lunch together as a team every day; it was fun to have Amy in the mix and join in on the chatter and laughter. Afterwards there was some roaming in the warehouse - here she is with her Sketchbook line!
And there was some silliness.
Kristina doodling on some packages being sent to the Garden Girls. That's just a small stack of the many orders going out. And Amy snuck in some shots of my preggo belly. Not that it's hard to miss. ;)
A very fun and inspiring day. We hope you'll visit us again soon, Amy! - Jamie

Weekly Scrap Challenge: Color combo with Kandis Smith
From Kandis, "Color combinations are one of my favorite things to work with–and there are soooooo many fun sites and blogs with people who put it all together for you. All you have to do is pull out paper and embellishments that match the color scheme and it will look amazing! I did a simple layout of my son playing tball!"
Weekly Photography Challenge: Symmetry with Kandis Smith
From Kandis, "Symmetry is not something I'm perfect at–I do everyday pics of my family most of the time so it's never exactly symmetrical! I thought this picture of my son Logan on the Fourth of July came pretty close though! The fun part about symmetry is that you can go symmetrical or asymmetrical. So many fun perspectives to play with! So break out your camera and look for symmetry around you!"
Saturday Card Sketch with Kimber 8.11.2012
From Kimber, "I like using repetition in my card making and using embellishments that easy to replicate. On my card I used a mix of die-cut and sticker butterflies. You could use punched hearts, circles, flowers, buttons, anything that you have multiple of in your stash. The sentiment can be simply stamped or layered stickers and die-cuts like I did. Have fun with it! :)"
Congrats to kellierabideau, daisyemm & craftwomanstyle - we'll be in touch with you shortly on how to access your gift certificate! And thanks to everyone who played along! - Jamie

This Week's Class Videos 8.10.2012
We're winding down our week with this week's free classes and videos!
Memory Keeping Monday | Disney Memorabilia with Nancy Damiano
From Nancy, "Welcome to this week's episode of Memory Keeping Monday. Today I created a fun Disney memorabilia page using strips of patterned paper to create ribbons. Each ribbon is “home” to some of the pieces we gathered along the way. The ribbon on the end is a pocket and a great place for a park map + the vacation title. An accordion flower was used to create a Mickey head and flair representing the month(September) and year (2008) were added for “ears”.
This page can be easily stretched to a 2-page layout by creating a mirror image. Also, each ribbon could be used to represent a “day-by-day” account of a vacation including a photo and memorabilia for each day of the week. I hope you find this helpful the next time you create a page about all of the stuff you've collected. TFL!" ...continue for challenge and supplies.
The Adventures of Glitter Girl | Episode 032 Instant Inspiration
From Shimelle, "This week Glitter Girl presents a special extended episode on the subject of scrapping instant photos like Polaroids, something being discussed here on the general scrapbooking message board. Her adventure takes her through the creation of a two new scrapbook pages, one with a Polaroid print from the early 1980s and another with an Instax image printed on a portable Pivi printer.
Come along for the adventure, won't you? But make sure you have some time - this extended episode is about forty minutes of instant-photo-fun!" ...continue for challenge and supplies.
Finally Friday | Hybrid Card by Julie Campbell
From Julie, "Did you know that you can create your own die cuts by using your Silhouette along with a digital scrapbooking kit? In this Finally Friday video tutorial, I'll show you how to do just that! We'll be creating a fun hybrid card & learning some new techniques along the way. If you don't own a Silhouette, don't worry. I'll also give you pointers on how to achieve a similar look by using other crafting supplies.
I designed this card for my son's teacher for the first day of school, but it's so universal that it could be used for any occasion." ...continue for challenge and supplies.
And that concludes this week's videos! Have a great weekend, Peas. - Jamie

Weekly Scrap Challenge | Sketch challenge with Wilna Furstenberg
From Wilna, "Welcome to this week's sketch challenge! This sketch used speech bubbles! I think it's such a fun element to add to your pages and you can fill it with pictures, embellishments and journaling. I misted some Studio calico cameras and loved the effect!"
Weekly Photography Challenge | Curves with Jill Sprott
From Jill, "Curves, when captured on film, can be whimsical, wondrous, and even beautiful. Consider the rotation of a ferris wheel, the rounded form of a pulsating jellyfish, or the unfurling petals of a flower in the early morning light.
This week's photography challenge is to focus on curves. While you're at it, try different camera angles, capturing curves from above, below, or at eye level. "
Saturday Card Sketch with Kimber 8.4.2012
From Kimber, "I have so many of these die-cut frames and I wanted to use one slightly off center and place my sentiment inside the window. I added a few of the die-cut embellishments from the same sheet with foam adhesive to give them a bit of dimension. I hope you will use the sketch to create a card this week and load it into the gallery."
Congrats to biochemipea, akamyran & texaschic - we'll be in touch with you shortly on how to access your gift certificate! And thanks to everyone who played along! - Jamie

Product Spotlight: 10 Ways to Use Mistable Thickers
Chances are you've spied one or two mistable thicker stickers from Studio Calico + American Crafts on a Garden Girl project. And if you regularly follow the blog, you will have seen them used in a handful of tutorials. These stickers are so much fun to use we just can't resist them!
You'll find them available in alphabets, clouds & suns, cameras and butterflies. You can alter them with mist, watercolor, markers - or even leave them blank! The Garden Girls just love how versatile they are, and we've seen them work their magic with them in a number of projects. Here's a round-up with 10 ways you can play.
Fifteen by Jill Sprott
Jill used the camera set on this layout celebrating 15 years of marriage to her husband. "... Initially, I didn't realize that they contain individual parts (like detachable “lenses”), but once I saw them close up, I thought it would be fun to mix and match the parts in different colors. I misted each camera a different color, and after the cameras dried, I switched out a piece of one for a piece of another. I love the multicolored look!" See Jill's tutorial for the camera accents here.
Good Game by Lisa Truesdell
An alphabet set like the one Lisa used on her page might just become a staple in one's stash as they can be customized with ink to suit a project's color palette. Lisa comments, "I love this font and love that i can make it whatever color i need for a page!"
Don't Forget to be Awesome by Marcy Penner
The mistables are a great canvas to experiment with new trends! Marcy says, "I've been wanting to play around with the whole ombre trend lately (I'm seeing it everywhere - in decor, ads, fashion…) and using mists and the Studio Calico mistable thickers seemed like a great combo."
Oh the Places You'll Go by Jaime Warren
Because the stickers are made of fabric, they add a great texture by themselves and can even be left unaltered! To tie in the pink from her flowers, Jaime reaches for the alphas and uses just the right hue. Leaving some blank adds interest to her title.
Poser by Amy Tan
Watercolor was just one of the tools Amy tried when creating her video on using the mistables. I love the way she's lined them up in a rainbow of colors, and even added her own embellishment to one of the cameras!
Remember This by Wilna Furstenberg
A layer of mist followed by a sprinkling of watercolor = a perfect recipe for an artistic look. Why stop at one medium when you can layer like Wilna?
Photo Dreams by Jen Gallacher
You could go with a classic color like blue or white when using the clouds from the HeyDay Weather set, or you could go with an unexpected color like this buttery yellow. It pops against the black, white and grays of Jen's page.
The Bean by Jill Sprott
Cameras, clouds, sunshine, and alphabets - these are all motifs that can easily help illustrate the stories of our everyday lives. Use them to your advantage and get the most mileage out of them. Each set gives you a LOT to work with. Jill comments, "Since “The Bean” is also known as “The Cloud Gate,” I reached for my Studio Calico mistable pieces here, incorporating a few misted clouds on the layout."
Sun & Baseball by Lisa Truesdell
Subtle lines of stitching add the perfect finishing touch to the title and sky scene in Lisa's page. The lines coming out of the sun look like rays of light. See Lisa's video here for a demonstration of how she put this page together.
Fourth of July by Jill Sprott
We've seen Jaime's idea for leaving half blank, why not also follow Jill's cue and try another color for the other half? Jill says, "I had fun creating the multicolored title, by misting Rockabye Thickers with Mister Huey's spray ink. I laid out the letters in an cardboard box, separating half on one side and half on the other. I sprayed one side red, and the other side blue. When the letters dried, I put them back together again to create the title."
We hope you enjoyed these 10 ways for using mistable thickers! Have an idea for these? Let us know in the comments - we'd love to hear how you're using them!
