If you like the chalkboard look, you will love these collections we have in the store!

Chalk Studio by Rhonna Rarrer for My Minds Eye

It makes sense that Rhonna Farrer, an expert chalk artist, would partner with My Mind's Eye to bring this beautiful collection.  Every pattern has a chalk print with pastels on the other side.

2965353_600x600
The Flair line from Cut & Paste by My Minds Eye is perfectly hip, from its cool eyewear icons to ombre patterns.  The chalkboard black perfectly contrasts against its pinks and aquas.

Memorabilia collection by Teresa Collins

The Memorabilia collection by Teresa Collins is so very versatile and sophisticated.  We like the pretty blues and golden yellows.

2976808_600x600

Chalkboard by We R Memory Keepers is new to the store and has quickly become a favorite; it has a feminine twist with delicate florals and elegant script.

Lakeside collection

Lakeside by Pebbles was released earlier in the year; what's not to love about this line?!

Chalk stickers by Fancy Pants

These chalk stickers from Fancy Pants make the perfect labels.  Don't forget to grab a white gel pen!

Browse our entire chalkboard-inspired selection here, and be sure to keep your eye out later in the season as many Christmas collections also incorporate this trend.

Baby boy mini album gift by the Garden Girls

Baby boy mini album gift

If you follow Garden Girl Elizabeth Karchner, you know she welcomed a sweet baby boy into her family earlier this year, Myles!  A few of us on staff and on the Garden Girl team worked together to put together this mini book for Liz and her family:

IMG_0807

Each of us put created a page (it had to be smaller or equal to an 8.5x11 piece of paper), making sure to embellish both sides.  We used a common color palette as a guide which was inspired by this post from Liz (something we knew she liked).  It was so fun to see the different pages as they trickled into the Two Peas office.  We then layered the pages on top of each other and Kristina got out her trusy sewing machine, stitching straight down the middle.

It was a blast to collaborate and create something together. It felt good giving something special and handmade to a mama who shares a love for scrapbooking.

New products + 10 Ways to Use Flair Buttons

Two Peas flair buttons

Did you see?  We have new Two Peas flair in the store (and wood veneer cards too!)!  We are absolutely giddy over them.  We think flair is a good thing to collect, yes?!

Here are 10 ways to use flair buttons in your scrapbooking, brought to you by the Garden Girls from their video tutorials.  Enjoy!

Using Flair - When I Grow Up by Nancy Damiano

1) Embellish an open pocket holding notes or other memorabilia.  The flair serves as an eye-catcher, inviting the viewer to look inside. "When I Grow Up" by Nancy Damiano

Using flair - You Are Awesome by Lisa Dickinson

2) Combine flair with other small embellishments, using a grid as a guideline. You Are Awesome by Lisa Dickinson

Using Flair - Straight A Student by Jen Gallacher

3) Create a column.  It's a line of eye candy!  "Straight A Student" by Jen Gallacher

Projects-4ab10ce1-9308-4ecb-8378-ee5137a60529-c41264bb724c4756b09e8b566283bf07

4) Build on a pre-designed element.  This is a great way to make something your very own!  "Under This Roof" by Nancy Damiano

Using flair - Be Merry card by Julie Campbell

5) Circles within circles!  Tucking flair inside die-cut circles gives a great sense of depth. "Be Merry" by Julie Campbell

Project Life by Marcy Penner

6) Embellish your project life!  A circular element within the boxy rectangles of pocket-style scrapbooking is a nice contrast.  Project Life spread by Marcy Penner

OC Snaps by Nancy Damiano

7) Use flair as bullet points for journaling!  The buttons are not only appealing to the eye, but organizational and functional.  "OC Snaps" by Nancy Damiano

Projects-cb3c294f-f7f9-42d4-96bc-6746945faef7-786d70b576cc4d65b5506d6dcff7f4b9

8) Mix with other accents to create a frame.  Corrie has surrounded her photos with a beautiful heart frame.  "Happy Birthday" by Corrie Jones

Screen Shot 2013-08-23 at 3.47.16 PM

9) Make a visual triangle.  Three circular flair buttons scattered on your page helps guide your eye around the layout.  "Glitter Girl episode 043: A Manly Model" by Shimelle

Using Flair - Hello Silly by Nancy Damiano

10) Fill up a space!  Sometimes a pack of flair contains 1 or 2 designs that don't work for what we're needing.  Why not put them together in a collection to make a big impact?  "Hello Silly" by Nancy Damiano

That wraps up 10 ways to use flair!  Browse our Two Peas designs here, and shop all flair in the store here.  Have a great Saturday!

We've loved triangles and arrows; these popular icons combined with motifs of nature like woodgrain and feathers make it even more easy to fall in love with the tribal trend we are seeing everywhere!

Glitz Design nailed this trend in their Wild and Free collection - brand new in the store this week!

An easy way to create this look for yourself is to not only pull together the kinds of products we've shared above, but to mix, match and build your own unique patterns.

Tribal Rug

Create rows of arrowheads, triangles, and squares.  Throw in stripes of color... have fun with it!  It's a great opportunity to combine stamps, paints, die cut files and more.  Here's how we've seen this trend pop up in the gallery so far:

Our wood cards in use

Projects-5d76f495-a02c-4697-8ebb-79537996394c-23fbe8a8edd74141a85b47ab44ac97a5

Half the fun of offering our own products is the design process; the other half is seeing how you're using them to record your memories!  Here are a few creative ways we're seeing our wood cards being used:

Projects-16c9a413-fc30-4c84-aab9-87cfe28b4469-c311bacc1d8c4ce3bb7aeda540de54b9

The cards are beautiful left alone or dressed up!  Wilna has altered a card with pens by outlining "Wish" and adding her own text directly to the open space.

Projects-b1f2535a-12be-4f0a-826b-952d505f3f25-4031c3da4e574a4099209457120b1206

Lilith slides an unexpected patterned paper under the globe card.

Projects-ce78db4d-4b53-4a91-bc7c-60202d9397d6-41501dc10fa747c68ee87f1f95b4f64c

The "Today" card is perfect for framing something that happened in your day in your Project Life album like Michelle has done.

Projects-ec3044f0-1fff-44d9-b903-00cd9563e9de-0b68bfe53d2c4a208130c8f1d954b719

Kristina addes it to her Project Life album also; the "You are Awesome" describes not a person in this layout, but the season of Summer.

Projects-647a0408-f647-484a-a51b-d4383d05edf2-8832514b7c5442e684ffc1e3082c7f83

Jen Kinkade has fun with her paint daubers and creates a striped design.

Screen Shot 2013-07-30 at 1.36.04 PM

And a sneak from Jill's Scrapbooking from the Soul workshop; she uses it as a placeholder for her glittery title stickers.

Projects-82819279-4949-41f3-9d1b-aea15490729a-d96f5c54f70743768e032e8b9044c996

We love this idea from Two Peas member Monika Glod; she's used a card as a cover for a Summer mini album (along with our printables!)

How are you using the wood cards?  We'd love to see!

Scrapbooking the Little Things with Lilith Eeckels

We asked the Garden Girls to share with us this month as we focus on our theme "It's the Little Things."  Today Lilith Eeckels is up!

079d

A FAVORITE (RECENT) LITTLE MOMENT:  Our family regulary goes for a walk on Sunday. It has become one of our Sunday traditions. This is a picture I snapped on our last walk. While the big boys were far ahead on look for adventure, our two little ones stayed behind with us. They really LOVE their dad and he can reassure them like no other. For quite a while they just walked hand in hand, chatting about the surroundings. Little moments like these are the most important.

Littlethingsbowl

A FAVORITE LITTLE SUPPLY: I love wood veneer and even though I don't use it on every layout I love seeing them. I found these little bowls on sale in a shop and got 4 of them for 4€. I love the texture and just seeing the wood pieces makes me happy.

Happy smile

Scrapbooking the Little Things with Melissa Stinson

We asked the Garden Girls to share with us this month as we focus on our theme "It's the Little Things."  Today we hear from Melissa Stinson!
---
Winslow arizona

A FAVORITE (RECENT) LITTLE MOMENT: On our way home from a road trip, my husband and I stopped in Winslow, AZ (just like the Eagles song), and I have a photo of me "standing on the corner" that really needs to get in an album soon!

Small embellishments

FAVORITE LITTLE SUPPLY: I love storing my tiny embellishments by color in plastic drawer sets from Target. It makes it so easy to find those little finishing touches!

Project life

HOW I SCRAP THE LITTLE THINGS: Some weeks in my Project Life album are filled with nothing but little things! This particular week in my 2011 album has photos of freshly baked cupcakes, a random trip to the botanical gardens, my husband checking my car before a short road trip, and lots and lots of cute photos of my baby niece.

Scrapbooking the Little Things with Paige Evans

We asked the Garden Girls to share with us this month as we focus on our theme "It's the Little Things."  Today Paige Evans is up!
---
FAVORITE LITTLE (recent) MOMENT: We were out on a walk and I saw this bright green garbage bin and I said, "Fox, quick, jump in front of the garbage bin for a photo!" He obeyed and it was so cute and fun to snap this photo of him on our little walk around town.)
Favorite little moment

FAVORITE LITTLE SUPPLY: I love using brads and buttons and stickpins and paper clips (so on and so forth!) but the packaging they come in is sometimes bulky and takes up precious space. So, I found a clear container with small compartments at the craft store (I've seen them at local scrapbook stores as well as the bigger craft store chains - easy to find!) and now separate my tiny embellishments by kind. That way, when I'm needing the perfect finishing touch, I pull out this box and can find what I'm looking for in no time flat!

HOW I SCRAP THE LITTLE THINGS: HE LOVED YOU is pictures of Chris holding his little babies for the first time.  PURE GOODNESS is about my little girl when she was only a few days/weeks old. Same with SO SWEET SWEET. It's all about the little subject matter!

Scrapbooking the Little Things with Marcy Penner

We asked the Garden Girls to share with us this month as we focus on our theme "It's the Little Things."  Today it's Marcy's turn!

---

A FAVORITE LITTLE MOMENT.  We have a lot of open spaces here on the farm and my boys were learning how to aim and shoot with their dad.  My littlest thought it would be way more fun if their targets were zombies.  Of course.  Such a perfect little moment that I can't wait to record.

Little things

A FAVORITE LITTLE SUPPLY.  I keep a little bowl on my work table.  When I'm cleaning up my latest mess I sometimes throw little random bits in it.  When I'm ready to start my next page I have a little bit of inspiration sitting right there.

Little things-2

HOW I SCRAP THE LITTLE THINGS.  This is what I love about Project Life.  It's a home for those little stories… the everyday ones.  Like this little moment I caught of my youngest encouraging his older brother and giving him a pep talk.

Scrapbooking the Little Things with Céline Navarro

We asked the Garden Girls to share with us this month as we focus on our theme "It's the Little Things."  Today Céline Navarro shares with us!

---

A FAVORITE LITTLE MOMENT.  We have a Summer Schedule this year - wake up at 6:30am, work until 4pm and then go to the beach, bike, go to the river...so that we can get stuff for work done, but also enjoy the beautiful Summer we've been having. I love waking up early and enjoy my coffee while hearing life waking up outside.

Morning coffee

A FAVORITE LITTLE SUPPLY.   My Instax Mini. Planning on using it wayyyy more this Summer. And I'll make a Mini Book about our Summer :)

HOW I SCRAP THE LITTLE THINGS.  The Little things for me is all those details in our everyday life that we don't necessarily pay attention to on a daily basis. Those details are what makes our lives important and priceless and, thanks to Project Life, I can remember those details.

Scrapbooking from the Soul with Jill Sprott + Giveaway

We're so excited to offer this new mini $12 workshop!  Garden Girl Jill Sprott has been working hard on the material for this class for months.  Her gifting as a writer and experience as a high school English teacher, combined with her passion for memory keeping and expertise as a designer, make this self-paced class one you don't want to miss.  Here's a little about the class:

  SOULfinal

As scrapbookers, we do not document life as passive observers -- we have the power to make meaning, sharing what matters in ways that matter. Join Garden Girl Jill Sprott for Scrapbooking from the Soul, a workshop that explores ways to embrace the “soul scrapper” within and infuse pages with layers of meaning.

In this workshop, Jill shares a variety of approaches and strategies for how to become more invested in creating layouts that feel authentic to you as well as authentically you. The workshop emphasizes in particular the role that journaling plays in enhancing meaning and contributing to a sense of unity.

Projectsneak

To serve as a creative springboard and to help you expand your repertoire of strategies for journaling, the workshop is based on a series of challenges, each of which serves as a key, unlocking the possibilities of a page and making the idea of scrapbooking from the soul a more accessible concept.

As a member of the class, you will enjoy:

-  three chapters, including

Chapter 1: “What Do I Say?”  This chapter focuses on ways to generate ideas for layouts and the journaling on them, including tips for “listening” to photos, finding the “flow,”  moving past a feeling of wordlessness, making the ordinary extraordinary, and writing through the rough stuff.

Chapter 2: “How Do I Say It?”  This chapter shares strategies for structuring and presenting journaling, drawing upon techniques such as using handwritten journaling, sensory language, repetition, metaphor, a stream-of-consciousness approach, and more.

Chapter 3: “Where Do I Say It?” This chapter considers ways to present journaling as a seamless aspect of the design, with advice for incorporating lengthy journaling, finding a “home” for one’s words, making a bold statement, and moving beyond conventional approaches to journaling.

Videosneak

three videos (40+ minutes total) including start-to-finish process-based narratives relating to the key concepts in each chapter

30 layouts total, including 20 from Jill and 10 from fellow “soul scrappers” and peas Ashley Calder, Stephanie Howell, Caroline Ikeji, Marie Lottermoser, and Doris Sander.  These layouts not only take on the fifteen challenges in the workshop, but also feature a variety of themes and topics, including childhood and adolescence, marriage (for better or worse), family, friendship, nature, food, travel, work, and more. There are even a few self-portrait and heritage pages in the mix. It’s also possible that Vanilla Ice makes an appearance (but don’t let that scare you away).

PDFSNEAK

Three PDFs (60+ pages) containing thoughts about the what, how, and where of journaling, an explanation of each challenge and how it relates to scrapbooking more meaningfully, details about each layout and the creative processes behind it, and tips and strategies to use in creating your own layouts.

-  exclusive class design files (and versatile) cut files (also in png format)

badges for participating in each chapter

If you would like to adopt a more thoughtful approach to your layouts, hone your journaling skills, and seek the “soul” within your scrapbooking, then this workshop was made for you.

The content for this class will be available immediately upon purchase. The lessons enable you to work at your own pace. Upon purchase, the workshop may be accessed in the “Workshops” section under “Classes and Events.”  A private message board forum will be available to ask questions of Jill and to connect with other workshop participants. Enjoy!

Scrapbooking the Little Things with Jennifer Kinkade

We asked the Garden Girls to share with us this month as we focus on our theme "It's the Little Things."  Today Jennifer Kinkade is up!

A FAVORITE LITTLE MOMENT.  This photo is from our recent trip to the beach. It's a moment I captured of my girls walking down the beach with their cousins.  I just love the colors and processing of the photo and the feeling that it evokes for me.

A FAVORITE LITTLE SUPPLY. I found these spice jars at Target this past year to hold scrapbooking items, of course ;) I ended up using them to store wood veneer pieces.

I keep these jars handy in my IKEA Raskog cart.

HOW I SCRAP THE LITTLE THINGS.  I always enjoy capturing little, everyday moments between my girls. I also like to scrap my little dog from time to time, she's my perfect "little" subject to

Behind the Scenes: July

Desktop141

In July we sprawled out between piles of product and placed orders for new collections.  We laughed when a few of us came to work wearing the same exact color combinations.  We brought Summer into the office with fresh blooms and iced coffee on our desks.  We schemed and dreamed and made lots of plans.  Happy August!
