Polka Dot Party Guest Designer: Aleksandra Gadji

Guest Designer of the Week

The talented Polka Dot Party Guest Designer is Aleksandra Gadji!

Alex
Short bio: My name is Aleksandra Gadji, but you can call me Alex. I was born in Serbia, 30-something years ago. Together with my family, I moved to Sweden when I was 14 years old, and that is something I will forever be grateful for. Today, I am a mother of two beautiful children, Linnea and Adrian, and a wife to Erik who must be the most wonderful man in the world. I am all fire and temperament and he is my laid-back rock :-) We live in a yellow little house in a suburb of Stockholm. At the time being, I am at home with Adrian enjoying my maternity leave. I have only 3 months left *sobs* and after that I am going back to work as a software engineer. I work within medical technology industry, writing software for emergency care equipment, which is pretty satisfying. I love listening to audio books. In my ears right now: Game of Thrones.

How did you get started scrapbooking? I am sure you can guess what my answer is. Yep, I started scrapbooking 5 years ago, when my daughter was born. It was a perfect way to combine my urge to be creative with preservation of all the new memories she was bringing into our lives. Honestly, I never thought that this little hobby of mine will grow into an obsession. Today, I can't imagine my life without pretty papers.

What is your favorite American Crafts product? Did you really think I could choose only one?! I love the patterned papers but what would they be without all the embellishments and bits and pieces that come with every collection?! They make it so easy to scrap. My favorites collections are from Dear Lizzy and Amy Tangerine.

It's amazing how versatile the Polka Dot Party line is. I made a layout about my daughter, a layout about my son, and now even one about me. I had so much fun layering the embellishments on this one! I made the frame behind my photo with my Cameo. You can check my blog if you want to see how :)

I LOVE cute hair accessories! So when I saw the fabric flowers and bows, I just couldn't resist. I didn't want to put them in an album, I wanted to wear them! With some plain headbands and a glue gun, I had three lovely accessories in less than 15 minutes :-)

Polka Dot Party Mini Album Tutorial by Diana Waite

Diana Waite made a mini album using Polka Dot Party and she's here to tell us how to make one just like it!

Diana Waite
MollieJayoverview
Supplies: White (7108) - Cardstock, Veneer set (366204) - Embellishments, Adhesive Flowers (366203) - embellishments, Accent & Phrase Stickers (366196)- Stickers, Epoxy Stickers (366198) - Stickers, Die Cut Frames (366199) - Polka Dot Party, Large Tags (366206) - Polka Dot Party, Ribbon (366193) - Polka Dot Party, Printed Chipboard Shapes (366205) - Polka Dot Party, 6x6 Paper Pad (366214) - Polka Dot Party, Label Stickers (366197) - Polka Dot Party, Cordial (366187)- Thickers, Christmas Silver Pigment Ink (59536) - Ink

Diana

1. Gather supplies which for me included pop dots, (2) 12x12” sheets of white cardstock, bone folder, ink, embellishments, Thickers, 6x6 paper pad from the Dear Lizzy Polka Dot Party line.
SuppliesAC
2. Cut thre pieces of cardstock to 5x10”.
3. Using the bone folder, fold each piece of cardstock in half.
Bonefolding
4. With each piece of cardstock folded in half, adhere them together along the ends with a strong adhesive (I avoid using liquid adhesive as it tends to wrinkle the paper) - it should resemble an accordion.
Paperstogether
5. With your album assembled distress the edges lightly with ink.
6. Select eight sheets of patterned paper from your 6x6 paper pad and cut each down to 4 3/4” square.
7. Assemble each page BEFORE adhering it to the background. (I do this so that if I would like to sew on the page I don’t have to worry about sewing through on the other side.)
AssembledAC
8. With your pages assembled arrange them in the order that you would like them to appear in your album.
9. Adhere your pages to your album by placing them in the center of the accordion page.

Be enchanted by the delicate and endearing beauty of Polka Dot Party. Charming graphics highlight the sophisticated femininity of the collection: butterflies, polka dots, chevron, hearts, and handwritten sentiments are presented in hues of pink, mint, gray and yellow. Join the fun of Polka Dot Party! This collection includes 21 double-sided patterned papers and three specialty papers. Eight sheets of Thickers in various colors and finishes coordinate wonderfully with the sticker sheets, die-cut frames, and other embellishments. Previous favorites, including large tags, die-cut cards and fabric bows are joined by new items: fringe flowers, ribbon photo corners and two pattern brayer sets for quickly adding fun patterns on paper.

Supplies: Sorbet 12x12 Paper (366048) - Amy Tangerine Cut & Paste, Thickers Rubber Letter Stickers  Charcoal 366058 and Pink 366059) - Amy Tangerine Cut & Paste, Bits Die Cut Tags (366069) - Amy Tangerine Cut & Paste, Ribbon - Amy Tangerine Cut & Paste, White cardstock

I wanted to focus on one of the stitched tags from this collection so I kept the design simple, cutting a background design using my die cutting machine and backing it with a bit of patterned paper. The rest is all about the tag, which can be pulled off and re-used as a bookmark or something else.

I used the new stamps in this collection to create a pattern on the card. I then stitched the blue pattern to the card base and embellished with chipboard and a die cut to create this sweet card.

Cut & Paste Guest Designer: Katrina Hunt

Guest Designer of the Week

I'm excited to introduce our Cut & Paste guest designer: Katrina Hunt!

Katrina Hunt
How did you get started scrapbooking? Funny, I started digital to make a header for my blog. Then a friend introduced me to paper and I decided I was going to do a mini album for my first project. That was in late 2008 and I have been a paper scrapper ever since. I love the entire creative process!

What is your favorite American Crafts product? There is not even a competition on this one, Thickers!! I have several containers of them, and one alone has over 150 packages! Yes, I do use them and not hoard them. I have a love of fonts and colors, so I think that is where the obsession comes from.

Cut & Paste Key Chain Tutorial by Corrie Jones

Corrie Jones is going to show us step-by-step how to make this fabulous paper key chain using Cut & Paste supplies!

Corrie Jones
Keychain475_1
Supplies: Heart Throb Paper (366034) - Cut & Paste, Precisely Paper (366032) - Cut & Paste, Infatuation Paper (366030) - Cut & Paste, Resin Bows (366075) - Details

Corrie

Gather your supplies: patterned paper, a thin wood skewer, hot glue, tape runner, Mod Podge, and some baker's twine.
1
Cut long, thin triangles out of the paper.
2
Roll the paper tightly around the wooden skewer.
3
I added some adhesive to help keep the whole thing together.
4
Make sure to use a strong adhesive for the ends so the bead are secure.
5
Once all of your beads are made, thread them back on the skewer and brush them with Mod Podge. This helps them from unwinding and makes them stronger.
6
Using a large needle, thread the beads on baker's twine.
7
8
To give the end more detail, use two enamel bows as decoration.
9
Use a healthy amount of hot glue to keep the pieces together.
10
Thread your key ring on and you have a custom made key chain!
