Dear Lizzy Christmas Samples

The newest Christmas line from American Crafts is one of my personal favorites! Co-designed with Elizabeth Kartchner, Dear Lizzy Christmas combines vintage, handmade, and traditional Christmas elements. Inspired by nostalgic Christmas traditions of popcorn garlands, wintery wonderlands, and poinsettias, this line features a classic color palette with a few cool touches. Here are some samples from the In-House Designers to show off this festive line:

Inspired by Fall Week Challenge with Suzy

First, congrats to the winner of the I'm Grateful For... week challenge, Azura Alyssa:

  IMG_4107

Second, here is a fabulous layout by Suzy Plantamura to wrap up this week:

Is This Fall by Suzy Plantamura
Supplies: 12x12 Leaf Cardstock (71052) - AC Cardstock, 12x12 Spinach Cardstock (71050) - AC Cardstock, Vladimir E. Bite Paper (35193) - Boo!, Whimsy Wolf Paper (35270) - Dear Lizzy Enchanted, Wise Tortoise Paper (35268) - Dear Lizzy Enchanted, Lyre (42177) - Remarks Dimensional Stickers, Bones Borders (53106) - Thickers, Gobble Gobble (42138) - Remarks Dimensional Stickers, Dear Lizzy Enchanted Decorative Tape (61734) - Mixtape, City Park Decorative Tape (61733) - Mixtape, Trail (42183) - Remarks, Sidewalk (42182) - Remarks, Gazeebo (42176) - Remarks Dimensional Stickers, Fantastic Limeaid (53109) - Thickers, Stroll Chestnut (53118) - Thickers, Abode Grosgrain Ribbon (89282) – Ribbon
Is it fall close up small
Suzy says, “I loved having the assignment of making a fall inspired scrapbook page as I rarely scrap any fall pictures! In fact, we don’t really have fall in Southern California which is what I made my layout about. I have to admit that I had to increase the color saturation on these photos so they looked more orange and fallish! I love the AC Mixtape and used it all over this layout. It isn’t very sticky, so you can lay it down and lift it up without any problems or leftover residue. I also like that it folds over easily and is transparent so you can see the patterned paper below it. I think this ribbon fanatic might have an alternative to use now! It added the perfect touch to my fall layout. Once my layout was done, I sprayed some green mist over the corners to finish it off. Happy fall to all even if you are battling 90 degree weather!”

I love how Suzy made her Mixtape look like ribbon - totally creative!

And third and finally, here is your challenge for this week!

Bright colored fall leaves definitely means you can use bright colored papers and embellishments! Great job Amy!

Leah says, "As a mother of a preschooler, I really adore all the autumn crafts they put together. Year after year those cute little crafts never get old. The handprint turkeys, leaves, and tree trunks all decorate the walls of our home for these few months, and this year I wanted to find a way to bring that into my scrapbook. Our little guy was only too happy to lend his hand for my tree trunk. I made sure to take some pictures of him creating his school project, and before I finished, decided that his original piece of artwork should be included in a pocket created from cardstock on the back of my project! I'm always looking for ways to keep bits and pieces of our boys' projects in an organized way!"

And here is a card also made by Leah:

Alisha says, "I was so excited when I got this assignment and it's perfectly fitting for this month. When I was thinking about what I was grateful for, many things came to mind, but first and foremost is family so that's what I chose! For me, this is why I scrapbook, to remember what I am grateful for and to remember all those memories. I kept it pretty clean to focus mostly on my photo and used a few of my favorite words. I then created a coordinating card with a fun banner and popped it up off my card. Simple! Hope you enjoy!"

Thanx Jar by Michelle

Michelle Lanning says, "Hi there! For the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday I thought it would be perfect to have a readymade jar of sorts that had a place for my family to write what we we're thankful for. So, I used a mini jar that I had on hand. I wanted to make a mini pie for the top. So I traced the top onto the orange cardstock and then placed it onto the solid side of the City Park piece. I used my scissors to create the 'pie crust' and then simply adhered it to the top of the jar."

Thanx Jar by Michelle Lanning

Supplies: Autumn Cardstock Pack (71255) - AC Cardstock, Wish (61734) - Mixtape, Plastic Rose Brads (85522) - Elements, Song (89387) - Ribbon, Sparkling Silver (53102) - Thickers, Discovery Park Paper (35227) - City Park
ACthanx2

For the tags inside of the jar, Michelle used a piece of white cardstock and layered three strips of Mixtape. Next, she used a circle punch to make the tag. Then she simply punched a hole in the top and added some twine. So easy. And a permanent marker or Slickwriter works best over the Mixtape, so those will be on hand this Thanksgiving at the Lanning residence.

Such a fun idea! And these jars would make a great hostess gift too!

I'm Grateful For... Week!

Logo
Fall is a great time to reminisce about all the things in life you are grateful for - why not scrapbook 'em too? This week we've got a plethora of layouts and cards with a "grateful for" theme to share with you. And look for a contest sometime this week as well where you can win a great box of AC goodies. Sarah de Guzman starts off the week with this fun layout:

I'm Thankful by Sarah de Guzman

Supplies: Skyline Park Paper (35235) - City Park, Balboa Park Paper (35236) - City Park, 12x12 Coffee Cardstock (71049) - AC Cardstock, Swing (72003) - Delights, 12x12 White Cardstock (71081) - AC Cardstock, Stroll Grasshopper (53115) - Thickers

Why did you make this layout?
I created this layout because I wanted to get into the season of Thanksgiving... and what better way to do it than a layout!

What's it about?
This layout is all about what I am currently thankful for. It serves as a personal documentation of the important people and things in my life.

Got any tips and tricks?
To get into that fall mode of Thanksgiving, I used brown as my background cardstock. Also, to get some fast journaling down on a page, try adding a list instead of writing out full sentences. Write whatever comes to mind!

ACnovemberassignment1
I love how Sarah used the Delights as flower buds - very clever! And what a fun and easy way to gather a bunch of things you're grateful for on one layout. Thanks Sarah!

Thanksgiving Place Cards Week Challenge with Paige

In the spirit of Thanksgiving we decided to pick TWO winners from last week's recipe challenge! First, congrats to Nicole Pomeroy who did a fun twist like Jennifer Gallacher and created a "Recipe for Disaster" layout:

Recipe for a Disaster
And second, congrats to Monique who made a beautiful layout including a special recipe:

Omas recept

Thanks to all who played along in the recipe week challenge!

To wrap up Thanksgiving Place Cards week, Paige Evans (that's me!) made a trio of turkey-shaped place cards that can be fun for the whole family to create together:   Turkey Place Cards by Paige Evans

IMG_1639
  IMG_1648
IMG_1663

Supplies: 12x12 Cherry Cardstock (71026) - AC Cardstock, 12x12 Apricot Cardstock (71031) - AC Cardstock, 12x12 Chestnut Cardstock (71048) - AC Cardstock, 12x12 Ash Cardstock (71078) - AC Cardstock, 12x12 White Cardstock (71081) - AC Cardstock, Wise Tortoise Paper (35268) - Dear Lizzy Enchanted, Forest Gardens Paper (35226) - City Park, Mountain Park Paper (35231) - City Park. Greenbelt Gardens Paper (35241) - City Park, Golden Gate Park Paper (35244) - City Park, Hairy O. Clawsome Paper (35185) - Boo!, Comfort & Cheer Paper (35203) - Dear Lizzy Christmas, Cherryhill Ave. Paper (35063) - Abode, Crestview Court Paper (35074) - Abode, Compliments Paper (35026) - Letterbox, Bodacious Banana Paper (35110) - Heat Wave, A La Carte (71001) - Patterned Paper Pack, Martha (43376) - MiniMarks

I love "hands on" (pun intended!) projects. To make these place cards for yourself:

1. Trace each family member's hand onto a piece of scratch paper, cut out, then trace onto the back of your selected patterned papers. I chose a different piece of red, orange, yellow, green, and brown patterned paper for each person.

2. Cut out each hand from each patterned paper, layer them together, spread them out, then glue them in place.

3. Cut a strip of brown cardtock, wrap into a loop, then hot glue to the bottom of the hands.

4. Cut out turkey "bodies" from gray cardstock, add details like eyes, a beak, and gobbler from scraps of colored cardstock, then hot glue to the front.

5. Create name banners by applying rub on letters to white triangles, glue to a thin piece of brown cardstock, then adhere to the turkey. Done!

And now for your challenge:

Challenge s
1. The place card must be posted to an online gallery or blog with American Crafts in your supply list.

2. You must leave a comment on this blog post with a link to your layout online. You also must fill in your email address when posting your comment on this blog post so I can notify you if you've won.

3. Projects and links must be posted by midnight PST on Thursday, November 18th, 2010.

4. The winner will receive an entire current line of their choice.

Have a great weekend everybody and happy crafting!

Place Cards by Kelly

The fabulous Kelly Purkey made a couple of cute place cards for this week's theme:

Kelly says, "Have a lot of place cards to make this year? Keep them simple with just two pieces of patterned paper and some fun leaf accents. I punched the leaves from white American Crafts cardstock then sprayed them with orange mist. So easy to whip up for your entire table!"

Place Cards by Leah

Thanksgiving Place Cards Week continues with this great (and easy to duplicate!) set by Leah Farquharson:

Place Cards by Leah Farquharson

Supplies: Graceful Swan Paper(35248) - Dear Lizzy Enchanted, 12x12 Cherry Cardstock (71026) - AC Cardstock, Barbara R. Bones Paper (35188) - Boo!, Bliss Multi (53034) - Thickers, Glee Large Set (59098) - Stamps, Aqua (59504) - Pigment Ink / Other: embroidery floss

Leah says, "Whenever I start thinking about holiday decorations, greeting cards, or a project like this - I try to think in terms of being able to create multiples without too much trouble. We all know the holidays are really busy, so why take a project that should be fun and turn it into something time consuming and stressful? Usually one of the best ways to accomplish this is to turn to your trusty stamp stash. When I first started putting these together, I pulled out the tree from the thicker set - which I thought was really cute, but then decided that the stamp would probably be the best way to go if you're looking to make these for a lot of people, so I made one of each. I honestly love them both and think either would make for a lovely tablesetting!

Place Cards by Cindy

Cindy Tobey made some incredibly cute place cards especially to share with you:

Place Cards by Cindy Tobey

Supplies: Charming Collin Paper (35263) - Dear Lizzy Enchanted, Mysterious Charlotte Paper (35267) - Dear Lizzy Enchanted, Dear Lizzy Enchanted (64005) - Just Write Journaling Cards, Wish (61734) - Mixtape, Evergreen (61735) - Mixtape, Dear Lizzy Enchanted Assorted Brads (85521) - Elements, Dear Lizzy Christmas Metal Rose Brads (85513) - Elements, Holly (43383) - MiniMarks

Cindy shares, “I've always loved the look of fruit place cards and thought this year I'd give them a try. I decided to go with a variety of pears, but a mix of apples and pears would be lovely too. First, I added some of the brand new Mixtape to each fruit. Have you seen this tape? I love it! I love how it gives the pears a gift-wrapped look. I also love that the tape is low-tack. It's easy to reposition if you mess up on your first try placing it, like I did ;), plus it won't harm the fruit when your guests remove it. For the tags, I dressed up some Dear Lizzy Enchanted Just Write tickets with decorative brads and leaves punched from patterned paper. I added my guests' names with rub ons, and backed the tickets with coordinating paper (to hide the back of the brads). Finally, I punched holes in the tickets and added them to the pears with string. And that's it, they're finished! Such a fun and easy way to decorate a holiday table!”

So festive and pretty! These would look great on the table all-year long!

Thanksgiving Place Cards Week

Here in the states we celebrate Thanksgiving on the 4th Thursday of each November. We gather together with friends and family to eat lots of delicious food and celebrate our nation. A fun way to dress up the dinner table is to make place cards so everyone knows where to sit. The place cards featured this week can easily be altered to fit any occasion - simply switch out the colors or sentiment and you're good to go! Jen Jockisch made these cute place cards to kick off the week:

Place Cards by Jen Jockisch
Supplies: 12x12 Vanilla Cardstock (71041) - AC Cardstock, Noble James Paper (35250) - Dear Lizzy Enchanted, Slide (72004) - Delights, City Park (61733) - Mixtape, Pond (89392) - Ribbon, Duchess (89389) - Ribbon, Fantastic Wine (53107) - Thickers

Jen says, "I love holidays, and decorating for holidays, but I don't usually like the 'traditional' colors that are associated with them. For these Thanksgiving place cards I decided to go with a fun and happy color scheme, rather than the usual fall colors. These were super quick to make, just layer some paper and Mixtape along with ribbon, pop on some Delights and Thickers and you're done!"

Easy as (pumpkin) pie! Wink wink. Thanks for sharing Jen!

Jennifer says, "When I was looking through my photos to find a food picture, I came across these photos of my daughter’s 'last day without braces' party. I thought it would be a humorous way to document all the foods that she loves that she can no longer have with her braces. I wrote the journaling in recipe format and then taped photos of the food at the bottom of the layout. The black and white photo is her first photo shoot with her new braces. She’s still adorable!"

And here is the challenge for this week:

I used the City Park line because I thought it fit perfectly with that magenta of the top part! I created some accordian flowers with the Mix Tape - I love this stuff, it's probably one of my favorite things from this latest release. I love the texture of it."

Cute box, cute handmade flowers, cute idea!

Postmarked Wednesday with Becky

Postmarked Wednesday
Recipe cards are still cards, no? So today's Postmarked Wednesday (recipe!) cards were made by Becky Williams:

Recipe Cards by Becky Williams

Taco Soup recipe card supplies: Van Helsing Paper (35195) - Boo!, Madame O. Ghoul Paper (35192) - Boo!, Lydia J. Fungus Paper (35194) - Boo!, Barbara R. Bones Paper (35188) - Boo!, Ghostly Dimensional Stickers (42167) - Remarks, Bones Black (53094) - Thickers, Bones Borders (53106) - Thickers, Strip Glue Runner (61712) - This to That

Christmas Crepes recipe card supplies: Sparkling Season Paper (35213) - Dear Lizzy Christmas, Twinkling Tree Paper (35217) - Dear Lizzy Christmas, Comfort and Cheer Paper (35203) - Dear Lizzy Christmas, Evergreen (61735) - Mix Tape, Song Ribbon Card (89387) - Ribbon, Dear Lizzy Christmas Joy Dimensional Stickers (42170) - Remarks, Dear Lizzy Christmas Snowy Phrases (43385) - MiniMarks, Dear Lizzy Christmas Sleigh Accents (43384) - MiniMarks, Strip Glue Runner (61712) - This to That

Becky says, "For this assignment I used two of my favorite recipes - the taco soup is a family favorite and while I sometimes use a recipe often times I'll just throw in whatever beans and other veggies I have on hand at the time. It's so yummy served with corn chips and topped with cheese and sour cream! What a perfect fall comfort food. And every family has favorite foods that they eat during the holidays. About five years ago we started a new family tradition of having crepes for breakfast on Christmas morning. They are so yummy filled with pudding and fresh fruits and topped with whipped cream and a drizzle of chocolate syrup!"

Mmmmm! Not only to the recipes but the cards look delicious too!

Recipe Layout by Maggie

Maggie Holmes shares a beautiful recipe-themed layout with you lovely readers today:

Every Sunday by Maggie Holmes
Supplies: 12 x 12 Robin's Egg Cardstock (71063) - AC Cardstock, Lady Winafred Paper (35254) - Dear Lizzy Enchanted, Sophisticated Jack Paper (35260) - Dear Lizzy Enchanted, Fairmont Gardens Paper (35242) - City Park, Fantastic Salmon (53108) - Thickers, Fancy Strawberry (53111) - Thickers, City Park Buttons (85518) - Elements, Dear Lizzy Enchanted Metal Rose Brads (85513) - Elements, Piccolo (42178) - Remarks, Dear Lizzy Enchanted (61734) - Mix Tape

Maggie says, "I loved the idea of using the topic of "RECIPES" because it is something I probably wouldn't have otherwise thought of and yet it is a great subject matter! I immediately knew that I wanted to do a layout showcasing one of our favorite recipes and I chose our favorite oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. We make these cookies pretty much every single Sunday after church and the whole family devours them. It also never fails that I have lots of little hands at the ready waiting to help me out (and mostly waiting to lick the spoon and the bowl when we are finished!) I took these pictures about a year ago one Sunday afternoon when Emily was helping me and they have just been sitting on the computer patiently waiting for some love. I remembered taking them at some point last year so all it took was a little searching and my layout was well on its way!!"

Can't wait to try out that recipe Maggie - those cookies look delish!

Recipes Week!

To cook or not to cook, that is the question I ask myself every night! Perhaps if I had a cute album, altered box, or layout to store my favorite recipes I might be more inclined to cook daily! So this week, our talented contributing design team is going to do just that - show us how to incorporate recipes in cute and functional ways. Starting with this great recipe book by Jenny Chesnick:

Recipe Book by Jenny Chesnick
Supplies: Lakeview Court Paper (35060) - Abode, Roosevelt Way Paper (35071) - Abode, Sugar Boulevard Paper (35077) - Abode, Orchard Way Paper (35068) - Abode, Washer Small Set (59105) - Stamps, Spoon (42697) - Remarks, Sugar & Spice (70057) - Flair, Chestnut (27140) Zing!, Brunet (87554) - Boxed Ribbon, Elle (87614) - Boxed Ribbon / Other supplies: QuicKutz Santa's Workshop & QuicKutz double sided adhesive chipboard

Jenny says, "Truth be told I am not much of a cook. I constantly have to review my recipes even if I have already cooked them a hundred times. So I created a small flip recipe book to keep in my kitchen so it's handy and I don't have to fumble through all my books to find my most used recipes. I made this using my QuicKutz Santa's Workshop die set. It has a fun insert that creates a pocket for the inside of your album. I made several pockets and slips to insert my recipes. I also used adhesive chipboard between my paper for the cover to give it some weight and durability."

I definitely have to make one of these to store my favorite recipes! Thanks for sharing Jenny!
